Speaker 1: Namaskar and welcome to another enlightening episode of "Vaastu Vibes: Harmonising Spaces." I'm your host, Marri Gopi Srinivas Reddy, and today we're embarking on a fascinating journey to Okinawa, one of the world's five Blue Zones. You might be wondering, "What's a Blue Zone, and why should I care?" Well, my friends, Blue Zones are regions where people live significantly longer and healthier lives than average. And Okinawa, especially the northern part of the island? It's the crown jewel of longevity, boasting more centenarians than anywhere else on Earth. But what does this have to do with Vaastu, you ask? Everything! You see, the principles of harmonious living that we discuss in Vaastu are mirrored in the lifestyle and environment of Okinawa. It's as if the island is a living, breathing example of perfect Vaastu! And today we’re exploring the intriguing connections between the serene village of Ogimi in Okinawa, Japan, and the ancient Indian architectural science known as Vaastu Shastra. Why do more centenarians call Ogimi their home than anywhere else in the world? And how does Vaastu Shastra play a role in this phenomenon? Stay tuned as we uncover the secrets to a long, healthy, and harmonious life.Nestled between the East China Sea on the north, and the lush Yanbaru mountains on the South, Ogimi is a small village in Okinawa, Japan, renowned for its extraordinary number of centenarians. This tiny community has gained international attention for its high life expectancy, particularly among women. Ogimi’s geography is quite unique: it is bordered by the Noha and Takasato rivers flowing from the south to the north, enhancing the village’s natural harmony and balance.Ogimi’s inhabitants enjoy a lifestyle that promotes health and well-being, but there is more to this story than just diet and exercise. Could the principles of Vaastu Shastra, an ancient Indian science of architecture and living spaces, provide additional insight into Ogimi’s remarkable longevity?Vaastu Shastra, often referred to as the “science of architecture,” is an ancient Indian system that focuses on harmonizing our living spaces with nature’s forces. Similar to the Chinese practice of Feng Shui, Vaastu Shastra aims to optimize the flow of energy or prana within a space, enhancing the health, prosperity, and happiness of its inhabitants.Key principles of Vaastu Shastra include: • Orientation: The direction a building faces can influence the energy flow. • Elements: Balance of the five elements – earth, water, fire, air, and space – is crucial. • Geometry: The shape and layout of spaces should follow specific geometric patterns. The goal is to create an environment that aligns with natural forces, promoting physical and mental well-being.Let’s examine how Ogimi’s geographical features align with Vaastu Shastra principles and potentially contribute to the residents’ longevity. 1. Orientation and Direction: • Ogimi’s main road on the north side extends far to the north-northeast, a direction associated with health and prosperity in Vaastu Shastra. On the other side of the road, the beach stretches into the sea. This orientation facilitate spositive energy flow, enhancing the well-being of the community. 2. Water Bodies: • The presence of the Noha and Takasato rivers on the east side of Ogimi is significant. These rivers flow from the South to the north and merge in the east China Sea. water is a powerful element associated with abundance and purification. Rivers flowing from the south to the north symbolize an uninterrupted flow of positive energy. 3. Natural Elements: • The East China Sea on the north side, and the Yanbaru mountains on the South side, create a balanced environment. The sea represents the water element, while the mountains symbolize stability and strength, akin to the earth element in Vaastu. This balance contributes to the overall harmony and health of Ogimi’s residents. The rivers on the east side augur very well for the male inhabitants in that area. Water body on the north side i.e East China Sea and Yanbaru mountains on the South side augur very well for the female inhabitants in that area. . This is the reason 85% of the centenarians are women and 15% of the centenarians are men. Further super centenarians, that is people above the age of 110 years have 90% women and 10% men.By aligning with Vaastu principles, Ogimi’s natural landscape inherently supports a lifestyle conducive to longevity more to women than men.By integrating these principles, we can create a living environment that supports our health and happiness, much like the centenarians of Ogimi In Okinawa. The society here does not consider the elderly a burden, but an Ayakaru ,a good luck charm.By understanding and applying the ancient wisdom of Vaastu Shastra, we too can create environments that support our well-being and enhance our quality of life. Ogimi’s centenarians remind us that living in harmony with nature and maintaining a balanced lifestyle can lead to a long, fulfilling life. Now, let's delve deeper into what makes Okinawa so special. At the heart of the Okinawan lifestyle is the concept of "Ikigai" - a reason for being. This philosophy aligns beautifully with Vaastu's emphasis on creating spaces that support our life's purpose.Ikigai is about finding the sweet spot between what you love, what you're good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for. It's about creating a life of purpose and meaning - something that resonates deeply with the principles of Vaastu, where we aim to create spaces that support our life's journey. The Okinawan diet is another fascinating aspect. They eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables. Every day at least seven types of fruits and vegetables are consumed by Okinawans on a daily basis, i.e eating the rainbow,They practice "hara hachi bu" - eating until you're 80% full. This mindful eating practice not only promotes longevity but also has a powerful protective effect against obesity, type two diabetes, inflammation, hypertension and cardiovascular disease and reduces metabolic factors associated with cancer. This also aligns with Vaastu principles of moderation and balance.Physical activity is seamlessly integrated into daily life in Okinawa. Gardens are common, providing both exercise and fresh produce. The layout of Okinawan villages encourages walking, creating a natural flow of movement - another principle we often discuss in Vaastu.Social connections are paramount in Okinawan culture. They have "moai" - social support groups that provide emotional and even financial support throughout life. This sense of community and interconnectedness is something we strive to foster through thoughtful Vaastu design in our homes and workplaces. These lifestyle choices mirror the holistic approach advocated by Vaastu Shastra, emphasizing the interconnectedness of physical, mental, and environmental health.Their daily routine, diet, and overall lifestyle seemed to be in perfect harmony with their environment. It is a living testament to the power of aligning one's life with natural principles - the very essence of both Vaastu and the Blue Zone concept. The natural environment of Okinawa plays a crucial role in the longevity of its inhabitants. The island is blessed with abundant sunshine, clean air, and beautiful landscapes. This connection with nature is a fundamental aspect of Vaastu, where we emphasize the importance of aligning our living spaces with the natural world.By integrating these principles, we can create a living environment that supports our health and happiness, much like the centenarians of Ogimi in Okinawa. But here's the truly exciting part - we don't need to move to Okinawa to benefit from these principles! We can incorporate the wisdom of this Blue Zone into our own lives, wherever we are. By applying Vaastu principles, we can create our own "mini Blue Zones" in our homes and workplaces.Imagine waking up in a bedroom designed to promote restful sleep, starting your day in a kitchen that encourages healthy eating, working in a space that boosts productivity and creativity, and ending your day in a living area that fosters connection and relaxation. This is the power of combining Blue Zone wisdom with Vaastu principles. Now, I know what you're thinking. "This all sounds great, but how do I actually implement these ideas in my life?"
