In Urdu, 'nadarad' means 'ghayab', when something is absent, has disappeared or is missing. Until you see how it’s used in poetry.
It’s usually not just about something being gone. It’s about something that should have been there but is not. A person who didn’t show up. A message that never came. A moment that didn’t happen the way you thought it would, and has left you with an overwhleming need for closure.
That’s why the word has many layers to it and poets like Momin Khan Momin and Mirza Ghalib have talked about 'absence' in their ashar without necessarily using the word itself. Because nadārad isn’t just about what’s missing, but it’s about what stays behind, even after it’s gone. Tune in.

Today we are talking about the word that is missing, which means missing, not only missing, but mysteriously missing. Nadārad. It means absent, missing, disappeared, nowhere to be found. And the word means, because word is still okay,
[00:01:04] there is a whole emotional ecosystem. Emotional ecosystem can't happen? What themes is called word needs? Your words can't come. Theoly 노력 or its 겨ات. The word is true. [00:01:33] यानि जो paradoxes हैं उनको साथ में चलना ही चलना पड़ेगा तब ही जागर तस्वीर मुकम्मल होती है तब देखते हैं कि जो word है नदारत वो किन themes के साथ जुड़ा रहता है ये मैं आपको कुछ layers के जरीए ये जो concept है disappearance का mysteriously disappearance का वो समझाओंगी और हर layer के साथ एक share है जो एक example के तौर पर आप समझ सकते हैं
[00:02:03] तो पहला जो layer है नदारत को समझने का जो theme है वो है absence as presence का ये tropes हैं, patterns है उर्दो शायरी का favorite trop तो यही है कि जो चीज नहीं होती है वो ही सबसे ज्यादा महसूस की जाती है महभूब है नहीं लेकिन उसकी याद इतनी है कि तड़पा देती है नदारत चीज गायब होकर भी narrative को capture करके उसका center बन जाती है जैसे कि मौमिन खान मौमिन का एक iconic share है
[00:02:31] कि तुम मेरे पास होते हो गोया कोई दूसरा नहीं होता जब कोई और नहीं होता तब भी तुम मेरे साथ होते हो यानि ये conditional presence नहीं है ये एक तरह की endurance है ये शायर से जूचता रहता है इस अकेले पन से क्योंकि उस अकेले पन में वो अकेला नहीं होता है किसी की याद होती है ऐसी मौझूदगी जो भीड में प्रूव नहीं की जा सकती है बलके तनहाई तक में भी वो मुसलसल महसूस होती रहती है
[00:03:00] दूसरी लेयर क्या है नदारत की? इसमें expectation versus absence का contrast है that you want something जहां उमीद clearly set हो चुकी है और फिर वहीं से दिल टूट जाता है वही चीज आपको disappoint करते थी है यानि something which is not just missing it's supposed to be there but it's not there और ये बात मिर्जा गालिप के शेर से बहतर example दे कर बिलकुल नहीं समझाए जा सकती जब वो कहते हैं कि
[00:03:29] हमने माना कि तगाफुल ना करोगे लेकिन खाक हो जाएंगे हम तुमको खबर होते तक इसमें पूरी जो energy है इसी ट्रोप की है expectation versus absence हमने expect किया था कि तुम लापरवाही नहीं करोगे लेकिन जब तक तुम्हें खबर होगी सब खतम हो चुका होगा यानि जो होना चाहिए था
[00:03:52] timely care तुम्हारी तरफ से its absence against expectation जो तीसरी layer है theme की नदारत में वो है mystery की ये loves इस loves में closure नहीं होता है मिलता है नहीं है इसमें कोई नदारत हो जाएगा फटकते रह जाएगे लेकिन आपको reason नहीं मिल पाएगा
[00:04:21] ghosting होती है ना dating में के दो-तीन बार मिले उसके बाद गायब हो गए नदारत हो गए अब आप सर अपना पटकते रहेगे बाल नुचते रहेगे पता नहीं चल पाएगा तो ये वो mystery है closure के ना होने से जो खुजली होती है ये वो वाला sentiment है यहाँ कोई clear reason नहीं मिलेगा
[00:04:53] ता फिर ना इंतजार में नीद आए उम्र भर आने का एहद कर गए आये जो खुआब में यहाँ देखे वाइदा हुआ है आने का ठीक है? लेकिन real दुनिया में नहीं physically मिले नहीं है appointment लेकर 5 बजे आजेंगे आप भी महाँ पे फला जगा मिलना ऐसा कुछ नहीं हुआ है कहां मिले हैं? खुआब में यानि एक promise है लेकिन उसकी कोई tangible reality नहीं है
[00:05:23] के छूके आप गले मिलकर हाथ पकड़के यकीन दिला लें अपने दिल को के हाँ भाई वो आए हैं ऐसा कुछ नहीं हुआ है खुआब में आए है तो क्या है इसका मतलब के presence उनकी है भी और absence भी है clear answer क्या हुआ इसका? नदारद mystery हो गई है फिर इसी घजल की आगे continuity में अगला जो शेर है वो है के कासिद के आते आते खत एक और लिख रखूं

[00:06:51] वो बिचारा खुद ही दोनों तरफ के चिठियां लिख रहा है कासिद के आते आते खते को और लिख रखूं मैं जानता हूं जो वो लिखेंगे जवाब में तो दोनों अशायर में एक ही चीज है, connection का illusion है closure का absence है So everything is happening एक तरह की हरकत है हर चीज के अंदर but nothing is really reaching anywhere तो वो है peak nadarat behavior as mystery
[00:07:20] जिससे बड़ी उल्जन होती है कभी किसी के साथ मत करियेगा तो nadarat सिर्फ गायब हो जाना नहीं होता है, it either leaves behind a strange sense of presence या फिर एक तरह की lingering से expectation होती है या फिर वो feeling होती है कि something was left unresolved closure नहीं मिल पाय है
[00:07:47] और यही एक overwhelming need for closure होती है by the end of it जो कि बिल्कुल भी healthy नहीं होती है तो अब concept nadarat का समझ आ गया है अच्छे से अब यह जो word है, loves है जिन अशार में इस्तिमाल किया गया है वो आपको सुनाएंगे तो पहला शेर है शहबाज रिजवी का यह शेर सीधा intensity की बात कर रहा है कहां की intensity, किस बात की intensity अभी समझ आएगा लिखते हैं
[00:08:15] आसूं से लहू नदारत और खून शामिल नहीं पसीने में आसूं में लहू जब आता है तब ही उसकी intensity समझ आती है कि किसी के घम में किसी के याद में रोरो के आँखे इतनी लाल करनी हैं कि खून निकलने लगा, of course, metaphorically और फिर है खून शामिल नहीं पसीने में कि अगर जीतोड महनत आपने करनी है तो उसमें खून का टपकना लाजमी है खून का टपकने का मतलब क्या होता है किसी तरह की sacrifice, किसी तरह का
[00:08:44] जोखं, endure करना, किसी तरह की endurance सख्थ हालत में वो खून का यहां पे symbol है तो खून शामिल नहीं पसीने में पसीना hard work का symbol है तो आसू में वो गहरा दर्ड लहू से आएगा जो कि लहू नदारत है यानि intensity यहां पे रोने में है कमी उसकी और महनत है, पसीना भी है लेकिन उसमें वो जान, वो sacrifice नहीं है वो नदारत है So everything is there on the surface but the real intensity is missing Essence नहीं है
[00:09:17] एक और शेर सुनिये हैरत बिन वाहित का शेर है यह लिखते हैं ऐसे शायर, ऐसे रहबर आज ज्यादा हैं जिन में अजमे सलीबो दार नदारत जिक्रे सलीबो दार बहुत अजमे सलीबो दार यानि अजम, resolve, इरादा सलीब और दार cross, gallows दोनों सिंबल्स हैं extreme suffering के सजा हताके मौत जिस सजा में आ जाए
[00:09:47] उसका सिंबल है सलीबो दार तो यह पूरा phrase मतलब देता है कि सच के लिए दर्द, सजा यहां तक के जान देने तक का इरादा, it's a kind of a real lived commitment, जो के नदारत है, फिर क्या है जिक्र सलीबो दार जिक्र mention करना, बात करना lip service, यानि खुर्बानी struggle resistance की जो बाते हैं speeches हो गई, शायरी, slogans यह सब हैं तो शायर क्या कह रहा है?
[00:10:15] कि आज कल ऐसे poets और leaders बहुत हैं, जो जिक्रे सलीबो दार बहुत करते हैं, जिक्र करते हैं सिर्ब बाते करते हैं, यानि sacrifice की बाते हैं, revolutionary बाते हैं सारी बाते करेंगे, लेकिन अजमे सलीबो दार नदारत उनमें वो actual इरादा, actual resolve हिम्मत, courage यह सब करने का missing है तो यहां नदारत एक बहुती शार्प जगा पर आ जाता है यो चीज़ सबसे जरूरी थी, वो ये गायब है यानि कथनी है, करनी नहीं है आगे ना समझ में
