Aryan regrets the subjects he chose in class 11. He finds them very difficult and is scared of failing the exams. But can he do something now? Or is it too late? Well we asked Kriti Shroff, educationist, consultant and trainer specialising in job and career advice and asked her what can one in do in such a situation. Tune in to hear the full advice.
[00:00:00] Hello you guys in Swagathha to a brand new episode of the TeenBook Podcast.
[00:00:15] May who you are very almost into those Disha from the teenska.dead.in and today I am back with
[00:00:21] an episode with the highest of the relatability factor.
[00:00:25] Hence it is also the perfect timing.
[00:00:35] Once upon a time I got a text from Aryan on Instagram.
[00:00:40] He just completed his class 10th and is now in 11th with the subjects Physics Chemistry
[00:00:44] and Maths.
[00:00:45] And where should he start?
[00:00:48] Now that it has been some time since class started, he is starting to realize that maybe
[00:00:53] the subjects are not the right fit for it.
[00:00:56] While chemistry is interesting, Physics and Maths seem to be from a totally different
[00:01:00] planet.
[00:01:01] He scored so low in physics in the practice test that he thinks he will fail in his pre-boards
[00:01:06] and that is carrying him a lot.
[00:01:08] He feels he made a mistake by choosing PCM.
[00:01:11] But what now?
[00:01:13] Can he change his subjects now or is it too late for that?
[00:01:17] How does he decide what is actually right for him?
[00:01:21] Does that sound relatable?
[00:01:22] If you are not there yet, what if you pick the wrong subjects when the time comes?
[00:01:27] What if it is too late once you do realize this?
[00:01:30] But worry not.
[00:01:31] De Shababa problem gets solved with the solution.
[00:01:33] So if you are good with your choices, that's great.
[00:01:36] But if you are not, we have got some advice from the expert.
[00:01:39] We asked Krithi Shrav, Educationist, Consultant and Trainer, specializing in job and career
[00:01:45] advice, what to do in this situation?
[00:01:48] And here's what she recommends.
[00:01:55] Now this is again a very commonly asked question.
[00:02:00] There are again two parts in which we can deal with this question.
[00:02:05] The first is understanding why did you take PCM?
[00:02:09] Did you take PCM because everybody around you was taking it?
[00:02:13] Because your family said that we are engineering Carlos, or did you take PCM because till
[00:02:21] class 10 you were actually liking these subjects?
[00:02:24] And now suddenly you're finding that tough.
[00:02:27] And it is possible because the level of PCM drastically changes from where it is in
[00:02:34] class 10th to where it is in class 11th.
[00:02:38] So it is absolutely okay to first accept this that till class 10th also is liking it.
[00:02:44] But now I'm finding it tough.
[00:02:47] Or you could be in that category that till class 10th also, you know you were finding
[00:02:52] it moderate or a little tough but because engineering was your goal or PCM is supposed
[00:03:00] to be the thing to do in your school, that's why you took PCM.
[00:03:05] The first step in this process will be self-acceptance.
[00:03:12] Why did you choose PCM in the first school?
[00:03:15] Because with self-acceptance, we'll come the solution.
[00:03:20] If you are in the first category where you wanted to take PCM because you wanted to get
[00:03:25] into engineering and that's why you've taken PCM then I think it's important for you
[00:03:32] to re-analyze your career goal and see that if you're leaving behind PCM, your whole
[00:03:38] career goal is going to shift and change.
[00:03:41] Are you okay to do that?
[00:03:42] Or would you want to work harder and see ways in which you can get better grass pet PCM
[00:03:50] and see in ways in which you can get a better grass at PCM.
[00:03:56] Now if you are in the second category where you were finding PCM good till class 10th, that's
[00:04:05] why you took PCM but in class 11 suddenly you're finding it very difficult.
[00:04:11] Now that's where you need to again go back and introspect that why PCM?
[00:04:20] What kind of career goal will it yield to?
[00:04:24] What is the objective that you're trying to solve with PCM?
[00:04:28] And if the careers that you wanted to take up in future are coming in with PCM then
[00:04:33] you have to stick with them.
[00:04:35] Unfortunately, you have to work harder but if there are career goals which can be led
[00:04:43] without PCM as well or by dropping physics chemistry but just continue with maths because
[00:04:49] I know so many careers are there where you just require math as one of the fundamental
[00:04:55] subjects and even if you do not have physics chemistry, you can still pursue them then
[00:05:01] you may have the possibility to change the subjects.
[00:05:05] Now at this stage it is also important to have this conversation with your school because
[00:05:12] each school follows a different policy of when and how will they change the subjects.
[00:05:19] Every school will also have deadlines by which they will allow you to change the subjects
[00:05:25] and after those deadlines they will not very easily agree to change the subjects.
[00:05:31] So these are the factors that you will have to keep in mind if you want to change, perhaps
[00:05:37] you have to introspect and you have to understand why that you're looking for a change and then
[00:05:44] get into it but one piece of advice that I want to give all of you is do not
[00:05:49] just change it because you're finding it tough and you want to find an easy solution.
[00:05:56] I also see that this young generation all of you want to find success but want to find
[00:06:03] it very easy.
[00:06:05] So there is nothing called success which can come in very easy so you will have to work hard.
[00:06:13] Now don't run away from working hard but at the same time we don't want to make your life
[00:06:18] miserable.
[00:06:19] That's why you have to look at what are your possibilities and what it will be the possibilities
[00:06:25] if you drop PCM, what are the other careers which will be in your bucket and will those
[00:06:31] careers be the careers that you would want to go ahead and take care.
[00:06:38] Wow!
[00:06:41] Honestly is there anything better than a step by step solution?
[00:06:45] So make sure you follow all these steps and get through this.
[00:06:48] It might help to speak to your parents, teachers or a professional career counselor who can
[00:06:53] help you think clearly about this.
[00:06:55] If you have any other questions, comments or maybe some compliments for me, they must

[00:07:02] See you next week with a new episode until then bye!
