[00:00:00] Hello and welcome to this week's episode of the Edges and Sledge's cricket podcast.

[00:00:13] I'm your host Ashwin.

[00:00:14] I'm joined by DJ.

[00:00:16] We are back after a little bit of a hiatus.

[00:00:18] DJ, we had a lot of episodes and a lot of content through the World Cup and I think everybody

[00:00:22] needed a little break.

[00:00:24] So we're back.

[00:00:25] Let me start by saying welcome to all our new subscribers on YouTube. six months on, six months from now, there's a T20 World Cup and this is the build up too. It comes second fast. There's no time to really, I guess, nurse your heartbreak for too long because cricketing circus carries on. Yeah, so what are we going to talk about today? The circus has just been going, right? I want to talk a little bit about the

[00:01:40] five T20s to be honest. I didn't watch quite as much. I watched today's because this Sunday

[00:01:44] morning it was great, but didn't watch too much of it. I mean, let's talk. Yeah, where do we start? This kicked off what? Three days after the World Cup final Are they going to pull up Ben Stokes effectively just the other way around? Should we rename this podcast? What is the plan there? Yeah. Like that sentence, something that said so many times when we're talking about it. Sorry. Yeah, because I think Rohit has been asked to continue as a white ball captain,

[00:04:22] as well as red ball captain. Rahul Drav question for Ruturaj in my mind, so I'll just go through all the players, it's much

[00:05:42] easier than Rut. Yes, that's why I thinku anchor question, sorry, I'm jumping around a lot, but did one middle-order batsman today who came back in just for the last two matches of the series? Did he set up a mistake? Actually, I'm a better anchor who can also accelerate. And I'm talking, of course, about Shreya's. But yeah, sorry, walk me through. Nurse Reya's, he had a good knock Is it, hey, we know Kishan's T20 or white ball chops, we just let's try out the taste. Let's give him a shot. I mean, he's obviously got some had some IPL success. He's 30 years old, right? He doesn't bat up the order like Kishan. So he can play that finisher role. So I quite liked that. So if Kishan opens the batting of bats

[00:08:22] three or something, then I love the Jutish decision. I think well deserved, there's been some great chat from the Aussies, I have to say. I mean, I've quite enjoyed some of the comments that have come out of the plate. I was telling you guys as well, like, this seems like more of the Aussie team of old, a little bit without the abuse, but that arrogance and like, kind of cockiness is coming back. Because there was one comment after Maxwell got his 100.

[00:09:42] Matthew Wade, I think said, yeah, he had to. He should remember. Or Rishap to be honest is a good example of something. Yeah, I mean, Rishap is a good example. He hasn't been in... We haven't talked about him for quite a while now, haven't we? He must be more in more... More and more instead of posting stuff coming out about him in the gym and that's pretty exciting. Yeah, I mean, it's been nearly a year right that he had his accident.

[00:11:04] So hopefully we'll be back to being the Rishapans show pretty soon. Marx had a 10 kind of aveish, mukesh, arsh-deep. And then of course, I mean, if you give law works to Ravi and Aksha, I'd be confused, but yeah. And I mean, Ravi Bishnoy, I think, was a standout. I don't know whether you would copy, take on all your standards. Is your first name or part of your first name and your respina for India, you're just gonna be great.

[00:12:21] Should we play Jadayja, Ashwad and Bishnoy

[00:12:24] altogether on Twitter?

[00:12:25] And Ravi Shah, three as the common.

[00:12:27] I mean, that just stick by them. Don't just don't switch. Keep switching people one after the other in the lead up to a big tournament and that paid off for Australia. In that World Cup, as you saw first two games, he had two off games, came in for the third game under pressure.

[00:14:46] And it's always been the question that I've asked on this show and to you as well as we seem to be persisting with the plan of having specialist batters specialist bowlers and then a couple of all-rounders.

[00:14:51] Unlike the very very successful teams in this format in the past the Western days, for example

[00:14:58] in England which won the last one who got like Sam Karan, Moin Ali, but then again, he went home for injury. It was a, it was, they played a couple of matches. I think he did play, but I think he may have been injured. I don't know. I haven't. But he's one name and, but he did, he did find his way into the ODI squad, right? Which I think is interesting and that he's got. So for South Africa.

[00:16:20] So anyway, and what's the other name?

[00:16:24] So say Pandya has injured.

[00:16:25] You've got one Deepak Chahar.

[00:16:26] Can you give me one more seat?

[00:16:27] Give me one more seat. some of the bowling, as we go to the West Indies and the US. And it's a little tricky to say what US wickets will do, because there hasn't been all that much professional top level cricket. But in the West Indies, spin will should work, right? And so if you think about that, Shreya probably came in for that reason, because he maybe had best player of spin in the 20s.

[00:17:40] And he showed that today.

[00:17:41] And then an Akshara, and yet J Dabishnoy. You've also got cool deep waiting in the wings. I don't know what he's up to. Is he in the squad for the ODIs in the T20? He's in the squad for the T20s and the ODIs. Yeah, both. DJ, why don't we... So, congratulations for one exciting grade all that.

[00:19:02] We are about a week away.

[00:19:03] It's crazy enough.

[00:19:05] Exactly one week away from the team arriving in South Africa interesting, the T20 specifically, no Shami Bumra Siraj. Oh no, Siraj is playing, sorry, so no Shami and Bumra. So, you know, a lot of the guys you mentioned, I'll run through those quite quickly, but Yashasvi, Shubman Gil, Ruturaj, Tilak and Sky, at the top of the order, Sky, keeps the capital in C. And you have Rinku, Shreya, S, Kishan, Jitesh,

[00:20:20] and then you go Jit Eja, who has vice capital in C.

[00:20:23] Sundar, Vishnuay Kaldi.

[00:20:26] So Sundar playing again, Vishnuay Kaldi, that will play the World Cup and is there a world where... There's a long way to go. I mean, this time I mean it in a way which not like the Rohit Sharma Not the irony. We don't care about it. We're going to plan. I think because there's an IPL that intervenes, so much can change because players' bodies need to hold up for firstly two months. We're going to be quite tired. If you've played IPL all through, when does it start?

[00:21:42] March end?

[00:21:43] March and now that the World Cup schedule has started, has come out, Yeah, so Gail Ishaan Kishan and Sky have been rested in ODI, which is interesting. Ruturaj, Sai Sudarshan, Rajat Patidhar, Teilak Parma, Rinkus Singh and Sanju Sampson all made the cut. And then from a bowling standpoint, they've kept in Ashthip, Mukesh, Chehil and Chehir while Bhumra Siraj and Shami rested. So, I was just running down the ODI squad.

[00:23:01] What does your take on the fact that after the...

[00:23:03] While despite playing the T20s, no Gail, for. Any other surprises for you on the ODI squad? Do you think, you know, yeah, size of Darshan? I know for me, I think he's 100% likely to be in India's setup for the future, in ODI setup for

[00:24:20] the future. He's an outstanding talent. And then Rajat power, right? We never really do that well in South Africa. We seem to do a bit better once we've played there for a little while.

[00:25:40] The last time we won the first test, lost the next two tests.

[00:25:44] This time I think they want to give people more time on the ground. I mean Salman butt was going to become the chairman of selectors or something. I'm like this guy is a convicted spot fixer. He was going to be like a consultant or something and within 24 hours they ended the decision and reversed it. It's absurd. Some of the stuff that comes out of that board mind. Wow. All right DJ before we wrap this and talk about the appeal I have to ask you about the big

[00:27:00] selection omission from test cricket for the two team. So many. So many. So many at the gabab. Him and Rishab Pandh game. It leaves people with no choice really to drop you. But also the likes of Hanuma Vihari, where is he? I mean, he did nothing wrong really. Yeah, I'll talk to him, talk about him. I would ask me about Karun Nair. Yeah, Karun Nair. It's a privilege to play for the Indian cricket team.

[00:29:40] Some of it doesn't make a lot of sense. There's obviously a lot of emotion.

[00:30:41] It is how it goes. It's sad and thank you for the memories, guys.

[00:30:48] Yeah, I mean, really well said,

[00:30:49] I have nothing to add to that.

[00:30:50] So very, very, yeah,

[00:30:53] luck to remember, luck to Ramanisan.

[00:30:55] Maybe we should do at some point

[00:30:56] attribute episode once they're facing.

[00:30:58] When they retire, maybe.

[00:30:59] Yeah, they haven't retired,

[00:31:00] but I think this is gonna be tough,

[00:31:02] build a swallow for both of them.

[00:31:04] Right, DJ, as we wrap up this week's episode,

[00:31:06] let's talk a little bit about it.

[00:31:07] We go straight from Test Cricket acquisition for them last year. And in this crazy three way deal, Cameron Green goes to Bangalore, which is, again, interesting, I want to ask you about it. Harthik Pandya comes to, goes from Gujarat to Mumbai and Gujarat now has the extra money available in their purse. So what's your take on the reading of that whole

[00:32:22] situation?

[00:32:22] It's a little bit crazy, of course.

[00:32:25] Mumbai has gotten a huge assethal Harthik and Tim David top seven absolutely blistering with only one overseas slot And yeah, I mean, he's going to Bangalore. I don't know about that.

[00:35:02] There's a whole article about why he's gone to Bangalore. Did he read that?

[00:35:05] No, but let's walk through that. Did the chin as Swami. But they unlike Mumbai, they will rely a lot on their overseas players and they always have from the life of the playscade, they be the players now, these other guys that are now part of their squad. Yeah, so I think an interesting move, he's only done one season

[00:36:22] with Mumbai, but he came at a massive cost.

[00:36:26] And so they would have looked at it and said, can we get rid of down a couple other quick headlines from other teams because as much as this trade has made all the headlines, there's been a lot of other activity going on. So Mumbai, the only other things I'd say, draw for Archer released, I mean, just just plagued with injuries, not playing anything. And then Tristan Stubbs, who was also seen as a potential batting sensation, I think they've decided with the top seven they have included him David, they don't really need

[00:37:42] more batting overseas batting. So I understand that RCB, the big big changes we discussed, I think it's a very interesting one. I think it's a very interesting one. I think it's a very interesting one. I think it's a very interesting one. I think it's a very interesting one. I think it's a very interesting one. I think it's a very interesting one. I think it's a very interesting one. I think it's a very interesting one. I think it's a very interesting one.

[00:39:00] I think it's a very interesting one.

[00:39:02] I think it's a very interesting one.

[00:39:04] I think it's a very interesting one.

[00:39:06] I think it's not a bad shout from them to say. So if you're interested, you can be all. CSK also released Ampatirayudu, which is interesting because he had a decent season at the end of it despite not playing really any other form. Has he retired? Oh, I don't know. I think he's retired from...

[00:40:20] Yeah, why would he need to release somebody if he's retired?

[00:40:22] No, maybe he technically counts as a release.

[00:41:24] get in there that particle to look now, which is an interesting, you know, from the Rajasthan. And yeah, and then Rajasthan did bring in Avesh from, from Lucknow, so that does a

[00:41:32] little bit of trade. And then, yeah, release Jason Horter, release Muruganashvan, release Kudipya

[00:41:37] Dha, Kudipa Dha, not that or Kudipa Dha, or Kudipa Dha, release Jauru. And then Delhi

[00:41:44] capitals, I'm surprised I came to the blast, it's a long ball. I would like to say him, I think Rachin and him will go for quite a lot. I think the Ozzies, the challenge with them sometimes is they pull out of the IPL last minute, which throws people's plans into disarray. I don't wanna say it's like a- But somehow the Ozzies always do get these crazy bits,

[00:43:03] right?

[00:43:04] Like there seems like there's an Australian premium,

[00:43:06] if you will, somehow in the IPL.
