LinkedIn Plays Games & Hired.com Take Dirt Nap

This week, the boys discuss various topics including their upcoming trips, shoutouts to listeners, the NFL draft, AI girlfriends, and the shutdown of Hired.com. They also touch on LinkedIn's revenue growth despite a weaker hiring environment. LinkedIn has launched three in-app games to engage users and potentially monetize through a subscriptions model. The games aim to make the platform more sticky and increase user engagement. This move is part of LinkedIn's strategy to expand beyond recruiter seats and tap into the larger market of marketing and advertising spend. While the games may not have a significant impact on revenues, they are a step towards making LinkedIn a more captivating platform.

[00:00:53] Hide your kids! Lock the doors! You're listening to HR's most dangerous podcast. Chad Sowash

[00:00:59] and Joel Cheeseman are here to punch the recruiting industry right where it hurts.

[00:01:04] Complete with breaking news, rash opinion, and loads of snark. Buckle up boys and girls,

[00:01:09] it's time for the Chad and Cheese Podcast.

[00:01:16] Oh yeah, just two guys who are too legit to quit unless it's around an hour after lunchtime.

[00:01:27] Hey kids, you are listening to the Chad and Cheese Podcast. I'm your co-host,

[00:01:32] Joel Hushmoney Cheeseman. This is Chad, well, I should say almost Euro Chad Sowash.

[00:01:38] On this episode, LinkedIn crushes, Elon crashes, and light them if you got them.

[00:01:44] Yeah. Smoke weed every day. Let's do this.

[00:01:52] Okay, listener, how can you help your employees become more productive? I have answers. How

[00:01:58] about automating manual and repetitive tasks, giving meaning to data, then allowing that data

[00:02:05] to actually drive decisions? And how about matching people to your jobs quicker? Well,

[00:02:11] wait, the Chad and Cheese has a new LLM? No, Cheeseman. I'm talking about Text Colonel.

[00:02:19] Okay, that makes more sense. What I'm hearing is the groundbreaking concept of, wait for it,

[00:02:26] simplicity. Seriously though, seriously, Text Colonel cuts through the complexities like

[00:02:33] a tortilla chip through some hot nacho cheese. Oh my God. Really? Nacho references already.

[00:02:39] Anyways, Text Colonel brings efficiency and productivity to your operations. Text Colonel

[00:02:44] seamlessly unifies your tools and data to drive efficiencies and success. Text Colonel is creating

[00:02:52] new opportunities for your recruitment journey, kind of like adding guac to my barbacoa burrito.

[00:03:00] My God. How about extracting meaningful insights from data? I mean, that's something.

[00:03:06] Swiftly matching people with jobs, automating repetitive tasks. Who knew such advanced concepts

[00:03:13] were even possible in the land of human resources? We did, Chad. We did. Dude,

[00:03:21] wrap it up. I'm a little hungry. Imagine that. Okay, listener, get ready to use today's tech

[00:03:27] to drive efficiencies and productivity. Visit textkernel.com. That's T-E-X-T-K-E-R-N-E-L.com.

[00:03:38] Mm, nachos. Oh, I'm feeling it, my friend. I am feeling it. How's Santa Fe?

[00:03:47] If you're watching on YouTube, you can see my background. Unless there's way too much light

[00:03:52] and it's like oversaturating, but there are mountains behind me. I mean, it is fucking

[00:03:57] crazy. And guess where I'm going tomorrow? Guess. Is it New Mexico somewhere? Big Nose Kate

[00:04:02] Distillery is here in Santa Fe. So actually hooked up with Mel, their CEO, and she's

[00:04:09] actually hooking us up. So we're going to go over half a few drinks and check it out. So big

[00:04:13] Nose Kate Western Whiskey. There's the t-shirt, everybody. If you're listening or watching,

[00:04:19] got the t-shirt. Yeah. What'd you got going on? Good stuff. So I could maybe one up that.

[00:04:24] I'm going to the Kentucky Derby this weekend. So most- You have a hat. No hat. I'm not

[00:04:31] going to show up my wife. She's got some headgear apparently, but I do have some fun

[00:04:36] suits. Maybe I'll post some of those on LinkedIn for listeners. Definitely show up on Facebook.

[00:04:41] If you follow me there, I've got- Oh yeah. Friday is the Oaks, which is I think the younger

[00:04:46] Phillies, the younger horses. So I have a pink suit with horses on it. And then for the

[00:04:51] Derby, I have like a powder blue polka dot kind of thing going on. So it's good stuff.

[00:04:58] So I've been to the Derby a lot of times. I'm from the area, but it's always been the

[00:05:02] infield, which is basically just drunks and foobies everywhere. Pretty much NASCAR for

[00:05:08] horse racing. Yes. Yes. We're classing it up this year. We spent a little cabbage

[00:05:13] and we're going to do it right. So I'm excited for that. I can't get too messed up though,

[00:05:17] because we got Vegas in our future, which we will get to in the latter segment of this,

[00:05:24] but let's get to- Shout out. My first shout out. Here it goes. Goes to Deceibo. Have no

[00:05:29] clue who this fucking company is. But anyway, they were sending the following email out to people

[00:05:35] who are attending Unleash next week. Quote, Deceibo is heading over to Vegas for Unleash

[00:05:41] from May 7th to May 9th. And we're hosting an exclusive private breakfast with Josh Burson on

[00:05:48] May 8th. Here's the link to register if you're in to hear from the Taylor Swift of HR. Yes,

[00:05:56] they called Josh Burson the Taylor Swift of HR. What the actual fuck? I mean, have they never

[00:06:02] heard of truth in advertising for God's sakes? What the hell? The only thing they have in common

[00:06:07] is maybe body weight. He's a slight man for sure, but- He's a little guy. Yeah. He's a

[00:06:13] little guy. Wow. That's a stretch. The Taylor Swift. Oh my God. I got nothing.

[00:06:18] Doesn't anyone notice this? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Ridiculous. All right. I'm

[00:06:22] going to shout out to our friends at Hiring Branch straight out of Montreal in Canada. As

[00:06:27] you might remember, in January, the wife and I went up, took a train to Montreal, went to a

[00:06:32] Canadian's hockey game, much to Serres, Boudreaux, angst. And they had ordered us

[00:06:39] jerseys, but they're nice jerseys, custom names and everything. And they hadn't come

[00:06:44] in yet. Now the jerseys, this is socialism for you. The jerseys are ready three or four

[00:06:50] months or five months after I visited. So these are awesome. Yours is like white,

[00:06:56] official jersey with Chad and mine is cheese on the back. I got the red jersey. Now I don't

[00:07:01] know how douchey it is to have Chad on your jersey. That's kind of funny, but you don't

[00:07:06] give a shit. But yes, Hiring Branch. Thank you, Canadians, such nice, kind people. And

[00:07:12] we appreciate it. So shout out to the folks at Hiring Branch. Love us some Hiring Branch. And

[00:07:17] now I can't skate. I cannot ice skate, especially backwards. That's just not happening.

[00:07:21] My next shout out to my sport, the NFL and the NFL draft. So getting to see these young

[00:07:27] men start their professional journey they've dreamed about for, I mean, since they've been

[00:07:31] little kids is just so awesome. And I wanted to share a couple of the press conference

[00:07:36] interviews. So the first one is Xavier Leggott, who was drafted by the Carolina Panthers.

[00:07:44] Check this out. I'm gonna cry. It's awesome. You might, you might, you might. It's okay.

[00:07:47] There we go. Woke up a Carolina Panther this morning. Did you have to pinch yourself a

[00:07:50] little bit? Oh no, no, man. I woke up ready. I got a call right after I got jettied. He was

[00:07:55] coming to pick me up at nine thirty in the morning. I told him I'm going to be ready.

[00:08:02] I told him I'm going to be ready. Okay. And then the second one, that one went viral on

[00:08:08] the socials and so did this one. This one's Keon Coleman, who was drafted by the Buffalo

[00:08:13] Bills. You forgot what this school in Michigan for two years? Guess why I got this room though?

[00:08:18] I'm saying you gotta guess. You're gonna be wrong though, but guess.

[00:08:23] Nah, Mrs. What you mean? They be on sale on the on the rack all the colors. Look, 79, 89.

[00:08:33] Nice little deal. You get the trench coat for like a hundred dollars. I take it up personally.

[00:08:38] I might go get some more colors. I need a blue one and another red one.

[00:08:42] Oh my God, dude. I freaking love it. I love it. These kids again, I call them kids. I mean,

[00:08:50] they're young men. But I mean, you can just see how happy they are. I mean, they're just it's

[00:08:56] amazing. I can't tell you how many of these draft videos I've watched on TikTok. I just

[00:09:01] can't tell you. So anyway, shout out to the NFL draft and these kids starting the journey

[00:09:05] in their professional career. And this is talent, man.

[00:09:09] Yeah. Those moments will be fleeting with NIL money. So these are kids that like have no money

[00:09:16] group and probably really tough circumstances and now they've made it. With NIL money,

[00:09:20] a lot of these kids are going to be making money and then going into the NFL. So these

[00:09:24] sort of magical moments I fear will be fleeting with a lot of people.

[00:09:28] This will be the last time, the last time that you actually see them literally come

[00:09:32] bright eyed, bushy tailed to a press conference from now on. They're going to be trained. I mean,

[00:09:38] they're going to go through training in the NFL to pretty much just go by the company line.

[00:09:42] Right? So this is like the last time we actually get to see them as real human beings

[00:09:46] in a good way. Heartwarming, heartwarming. And they'll also probably get a girlfriend,

[00:09:51] a real girlfriend. My shout out goes to AI girlfriends, which have made quite a ruckus

[00:09:56] on the internets this week. Apparently, Meta, Instagram, other social media sites are flooded

[00:10:04] now with AI girlfriend apps asking you to download and get a girlfriend. She's not

[00:10:09] a real person, but hey, for a lot of people that's okay. Now the problem is the real women,

[00:10:14] the only fans, millionaires, they can't advertise on Facebook, Meta and Instagram

[00:10:21] because it's trafficking their laws around it. If it's not a real person, you can do it. So it's

[00:10:26] quite an uproar. The real ladies out there can't get their time in the sun on your Facebook feed.

[00:10:33] So shout out to the AI girlfriends out there. Ridiculous. Ridiculous. Ridiculous. Shout out

[00:10:39] to free stuff kids. T-shirts by Aaron App, beer by Aspen Tech Labs, whiskey, you get two

[00:10:45] bottles from Text Colonel. And if it's your birthday, it's a little rum with plum. Go to

[00:10:51] ChadCheese.com slash free and register to win like these people. Register to win.

[00:10:57] That's right. I think I heard you say plum. So that leads me to click yes.

[00:11:05] That's right. So our lucky winners go to Desiree Goldie, our friend

[00:11:09] we interviewed recently. Amanda Hall. She was just on. Amanda Hall, who by the way,

[00:11:13] sometimes you really make these folks day. Sometimes they really freak out and like,

[00:11:18] I can't believe you're texting me and they're sending me stuff. So Amanda got beer from us

[00:11:23] and got a job offer the same day. So talk about a hurricane of good news, free beer from us

[00:11:31] and a new job. So Amanda shout out to you for sure on that. And then our friend Jonathan

[00:11:37] Godzilla or Zilla, however you want to say it is our rum with plum winner because it was

[00:11:43] his birthday. And those other people that are celebrating another trip around the sun this week

[00:11:48] go to Annie Jarvis, Glen Hill, Garvich Sharma, Jerry Frank, Peter Shapira, Shana Berthold,

[00:11:55] Keegan Osipek, Stefan Jean, Sarah Addison, Bennett Sung, JT O'Donnell, aka the mouth of

[00:12:02] Portsmouth, Robert Reiner, Alfonso Zamora, Herb Drew, Come on Eileen Kowalski, Lou Adler

[00:12:10] and one of our favorites, I think it's fair to say Joe Shaker, celebrating a birthday.

[00:12:15] Happy birthday!

[00:12:18] Joey Shaker, that's awesome.

[00:12:19] By the way, I think he's good on betting the over on the Bears this coming year.

[00:12:24] I think it's eight and a half right now. The weapons they've added, I think that's an over

[00:12:29] for me just FYI.

[00:12:31] A lot of weapons that they added and a lot of work for a lot of rookies. So yeah,

[00:12:36] and not to mention a rookie in the most important position being quarterback who touches the ball

[00:12:41] on every offensive play. So good luck, man. It's going to be interesting.

[00:12:45] I love his shade of nail polish, by the way. Good fashion sense on the nail polish.

[00:12:49] I love a guy who is not afraid to show who he is.

[00:12:53] Totally secure in his manhood. Totally secure in his manhood.

[00:12:56] Yes, which you will be doing next week at Unleash.

[00:12:59] I won't be secure in my manhood jumping off the strat, trust me.

[00:13:03] We're going to Unleash America in Vegas on the 7th. We will be jumping off the stratosphere with

[00:13:09] Matt Bauer. That's right, Matt Bauer, the CEO of outhire.ai. You might see it here, kids.

[00:13:16] It's an over 850 foot drop and we're going to be joined by Josh Gample, Josh Ramsey,

[00:13:23] Serge Bourgeault, Joel Laggoli, Jason Putnam, Michelle Meehan and Russ Weaver.

[00:13:30] Then later that night, we're hopping over to the minus five bar for Omar's Ice Castle.

[00:13:35] That's on the 7th. That's right, baby. For Jopixel, we're going to be basking in the

[00:13:40] neon glow at the neon boneyard with our friends from Plum for neon nights.

[00:13:46] Now come see us when we're at Unleash and who knows there are a few passes that Joel

[00:13:53] and I have. We might be able to get you into that one. It is already locked down,

[00:13:57] but Joel and I have a couple of free passes. So if you hit us right, you might get something.

[00:14:04] Then we're going to Scotland for true Glasgow and true Edinburgh.

[00:14:09] Welcome to all things Scottish. Our slogan is if it's no Scottish, it's crap.

[00:14:14] And guess who's joining us in Scotland, Joel? It's a long list of Scottish players.

[00:14:18] Oh yeah, they're all over the place. Plus Matt Alder. Yep. This is going to be a recruiting

[00:14:24] future in Ched and Cheese Joint, which is going to be a blast. May 21st at the Revolution

[00:14:29] de Cuba in Glasgow. May 23rd, the Three Sisters Bar in Edinburgh. We already have some great

[00:14:37] practitioners that are lined up to be track leaders from PayPal, Lloyd's of London,

[00:14:42] Diageo, ENY, AMS, Brooks Automation. The Scottish government is going to show up and

[00:14:48] several more. So register for one or even both events at truescotland.com. That's true without

[00:14:55] the E-T-R-U, scotland.com. Thanks to all the sponsors. Gotta love these sponsors

[00:15:00] because they're making this happen. Daxter, Ashby, Solutions Driven, gigged.ai, Willow,

[00:15:07] and Poetry. That's right. Ched and Cheese meets recruiting future in Scotland at true

[00:15:12] Glasgow and true Edinburgh. Don't miss it. Very cool. So you said the government's

[00:15:17] going to be there? Yes, the government's going to be there. Scottish government's going to be there.

[00:15:20] Are we sure Stephen McGrath doesn't have any warrants out for his arrest? Is it safe

[00:15:25] for him to be around government officials? I got nothing, dude. I don't know. He probably

[00:15:31] has some contacts within the government. Adam probably has some get out of jail free cards

[00:15:36] for Stephen as part of his employment. By the way, talk about those that are lightweight,

[00:15:42] Taylor Swift style. I'm a little worried about Serres jumping out of the strat.

[00:15:45] Are we sure that he's heavy enough to make it to the bottom and he's not just going to like

[00:15:50] fly around like a whirly bird from a tree? Anyway, we'll let him go first. We'll let him

[00:15:56] go first. First or last. One of the two. One of the first or last. You're the first or last,

[00:16:00] Serres. If you ain't first, you're last, baby.

[00:16:07] All right, Chad, we got some breaking news that happened about 10 minutes before we

[00:16:11] got on the air. Sources are telling us that Hired.com effectively shut down this week,

[00:16:17] laid off the entire team and said they're rolling the product into LHH,

[00:16:22] which is a global business unit of the Adecco Group. In case you missed it,

[00:16:25] Hired had raised $133 million before being acquired by Vetery, which was acquired by Adecco

[00:16:33] in 2018 for a reported $100 million. Hired founded in 2012 with a great deal of fanfare.

[00:16:41] Its height was worth $500 million. Again, Hired.com shutting down. If you go to their site,

[00:16:49] it's pretty clear that's over. If you're looking to poach some people, check out those

[00:16:53] hired profiles on LinkedIn because there's some people that are probably looking for a job

[00:16:57] next week. Again, over and over and over. There should be an organization who understands the

[00:17:02] business of recruiting and that's staffing. But Adecco, obviously they didn't know what the

[00:17:06] fuck they're doing. AMS with hourly, right? And Ronstadt with Monster. Those are just three,

[00:17:13] okay? I mean these are companies who understand the business of recruiting,

[00:17:17] of staffing, right? But apparently they have no fucking clue what to do and or how to

[00:17:22] productize and sell product. I don't get it. I really don't.

[00:17:27] Soterios Johnson And we've said it before,

[00:17:29] companies go out of business not because they raised too little money, because they raised

[00:17:33] too much money and there's a lot of millions flowing around in all these deals.

[00:17:37] Chad Moses I ain't kidding.

[00:17:38] Soterios Johnson You ain't kidding, man.

[00:17:39] Chad Moses You done messed up, A.A. Ron!

[00:17:41] Soterios Johnson Let's go to LinkedIn, shall we? Company

[00:17:45] that never gets any pub on the podcast. LinkedIn's revenue increased by 10%.

[00:17:49] Soterios Johnson Oh my God, Jesus.

[00:17:50] Soterios Johnson Despite a weaker hiring environment,

[00:17:52] Microsoft anticipates mid to high single-digit revenue growth for LinkedIn in the next quarter,

[00:17:56] leveraging AI to enhance member experiences. What kind of experiences,

[00:18:01] Chad, you might ask? Well, look out, Wirtle. LinkedIn has officially, we talked about it,

[00:18:06] but they've officially launched three in-app games, Pinpoint, Queens and Cross Climb to

[00:18:11] engage users and potentially monetize through a subscriptions model. You'll be able to play

[00:18:16] each game once per day and after your daily session, you'll get access to all kinds of

[00:18:20] metrics including your high score and daily streak, different leaderboards and who in your

[00:18:24] networks has also played. Chad, is this a silver bullet that LinkedIn has been waiting

[00:18:29] for? What are your thoughts on the revenues and the games at LinkedIn?

[00:18:34] Chad I would have thought that their

[00:18:36] revenues would be, to see them get a 10% lift isn't bad because if you take a look at it,

[00:18:42] the jobs that are open and being created are generally not in the LinkedIn population of

[00:18:46] users. So yeah, 10%, that's not a bad thing. The whole Wirtle thing is interesting

[00:18:52] and really we've talked about this over the last few weeks with LinkedIn is they're trying

[00:18:56] to become more sticky. They want you to come back every single day and what does Wirtle have?

[00:19:01] Those motherfuckers, they get people back at least once a day, right? So that is active

[00:19:05] and captivated audiences. They want your average person to come back every day.

[00:19:10] That will elevate their audience numbers and allow them to really focus on what we talked

[00:19:15] about before, expanding from recruiter seats to the bigger total addressable market of

[00:19:21] marketing and advertising spend. They're looking at doing videos, they're looking at doing all

[00:19:26] these different things. What do you really need to make that work? They need users that are

[00:19:32] sticky, that are coming back every day and guys like me and you who are on it every day,

[00:19:36] they know we're going to be there, right? They need everybody else, right? We're the 20%.

[00:19:40] They need the 80% who are not there every day and they are hoping and gambling on

[00:19:45] something like this.

[00:19:47] I hate to say it, but it's pretty smart. They need people like my wife. They have a billion users,

[00:19:51] I think. Maybe 200 million are on the site on any kind of regular basis. If you're not recruiting

[00:19:57] or sales and marketing, you're probably on LinkedIn once or twice a year updating your

[00:20:01] profile, adding a credential and then you're done. People love this Wirtle shit. They love

[00:20:06] posting it on Facebook and the socials about, hey, it only took me three tries to get the

[00:20:10] word. So if they create a nice little social share thing on this, yeah, people will do it.

[00:20:15] People love this game shit. I'm not into it, but I know a lot of people are. In terms of the money

[00:20:19] thing, like we talked about this before, the recipe for LinkedIn is working like a charm.

[00:20:24] Get rid of the competition, put up the moat and I know moat has been criticized. Moat's a thing.

[00:20:29] Moat is a thing. If you can't easily duplicate it, moat is a thing. You can't just build a

[00:20:34] bridge across a moat. So kill the competition, get rid of the fake profiles, which I think

[00:20:39] they're trying to do and then you become a monopoly and then you can start raising prices.

[00:20:44] So until Elon's LinkedIn killer comes along and gives them some competition, they're going to

[00:20:49] continue to ratchet up the prices and you, Mr. And Mrs. Recruiter are going to keep paying

[00:20:54] those prices because that's what you're going to do. And as long as you keep paying it,

[00:20:59] their revenues are going to go up. And this is what we're seeing on that side of the house.

[00:21:04] So I wonder if they're just going to allow the tech, which I mean is like the networking

[00:21:09] tech just to stay the dilapidated, you know, 20 year old tech is, which is what it is today.

[00:21:15] The matching sucks, the usability. I mean, it's just way too complex and for many people who

[00:21:19] don't use it on a daily basis, it's hard to fucking navigate to do just the basic things

[00:21:24] that you want to do other than posting, right? I wonder because there is much more marketing

[00:21:29] and advertising dollars that are out there. Again, HR is very slow to change. They do

[00:21:35] hear their recruiters whine whether they use LinkedIn or not. Don't take away my seats.

[00:21:41] Don't take away my seats. So they might feel like they really don't have to put the money

[00:21:46] and or time into the recruitment aspect of it. They're going to focus on where the big money

[00:21:50] is. And, you know, I don't know, but all I got to say is the tech sucks. If they can make

[00:21:56] the advertising and the marketing and advertising piece good for them. I mean, the recruiter seat

[00:22:01] side of the house might just have to, you know, work with bailing wire and duct tape for the rest

[00:22:06] of their lives. It won't be the first time a monopoly has fallen down on innovation in

[00:22:11] the history of commerce. But I mean, look, we talked about this with Indeed, with their

[00:22:16] health care channel and their tech channel, right? Like if LinkedIn can just get 10% more

[00:22:22] nurses to use LinkedIn because of these games, they can go to every health care facility in

[00:22:27] the country and say, oh, in terms of nurses, we have an engagement of X. We have this many

[00:22:32] monthly active users that are nurses. And you know what? Hospital systems are going to pull out

[00:22:37] the blank check and pay whatever LinkedIn says because they can show some of those numbers,

[00:22:42] which they cannot right now. And if they can show tech, tech people come on to the platform

[00:22:47] and other segments, then they just create new money channels to fill the coffers. But you're

[00:22:51] right. You're a monopoly and there are little ways to dial it up. And this, I think,

[00:22:56] is one of the ways to dial it up. We'll have to see if it works.

[00:22:58] 60% of the time, it works every time.

[00:23:02] We'll be right back. Listen to the sponsors, everybody, because there's no show without

[00:23:07] sponsors. Human resources is supposed to be about humans. I mean, it's right there in

[00:23:15] the name. But when your hiring team is more like an assembly line glued to their computers,

[00:23:20] manually posting heaps of jobs everywhere they can think of, that human part feels nowhere to

[00:23:26] be found. This is a new era. Pando IQ takes the mind-numbing copy pasting and nerve-racking

[00:23:32] guesswork out of the job posting process. When you plan a hiring campaign with Pando IQ,

[00:23:37] you tell us who you need. Then before you ever spend a cent, we predict what it will cost to

[00:23:42] find them. Pando IQ chooses the ideal recruiting sites from thousands of options, targeting

[00:23:46] the ones your next great hire frequently visits, then fires off your ads at precisely

[00:23:51] calculated times, surfacing the most relevant applicants for you to pick from. Now you're

[00:23:55] free to get to know the best talent, build great teams and take care of your humans.

[00:24:00] Pando IQ will do the rest so you can get back to doing what the computers can't.

[00:24:04] For more information on Pando IQ, go to pandologic.com. That's pandologic.com.

[00:24:14] All right, Chad, you ready for a little Elon news?

[00:24:18] No, no.

[00:24:20] Where are you going to get it anyway? All right.

[00:24:24] I know, I know, I know.

[00:24:25] Some headlines this week from Elon. I'll read them and you can comment on what struck your

[00:24:31] curiosity or not. So here we go. Number one, Man Furious after Cybertruck breaks down

[00:24:36] repeatedly in first month. Number two, Elon teases XTV saying site will be the everything

[00:24:42] app. Number three, Elon chuckles at post comparing LinkedIn users with zombies. And

[00:24:47] the last one, Tesla's senior director of HR leaves making another executive departure.

[00:24:53] Just another week and all things Elon, your thoughts?

[00:24:57] Well, we just were talking about LinkedIn. So let's go back to it. So

[00:25:00] Musk is worrying about LinkedIn and he should be worrying about threads as data from Maptopia

[00:25:06] shows that threads is seeing more daily users in the US than Twitter. Now that's one of the

[00:25:11] things. I mean, there's a lot of sleight of hand that happens with Musk. This also the

[00:25:16] XTV and let's be clear kids. If you type in x.com into your browser, it takes you to twitter.com.

[00:25:22] So this is Twitter TV. Twitter is losing trust. He wants this everything app. If you want an

[00:25:27] everything app, you have to have trust and they're losing users. They're using,

[00:25:32] they're losing trust. And he's hoping that these smoke and mirrors actually help and bring

[00:25:37] people back to the platform much like LinkedIn's games. And the whole HR thing, he thinks HR is

[00:25:43] extraneous anyway, I believe. I don't think he really gives two shits about HR. The

[00:25:48] the Cybertruck issue, he cares about that. Less than 4,000 Cybertrucks have been delivered,

[00:25:54] which is I thought was a very low number. And then watching them break down and get stuck

[00:26:01] is all the rage on social media. I saw one in town here just the other day in Santa Fe

[00:26:07] and it's just ugly as fuck. It looks like a block of wood with aluminum panels attached.

[00:26:13] I know it's more than that, but that's what it looks like. The first time I saw it,

[00:26:16] I thought, wow, that is kind of space agey and whatnot. But when I finally saw one close up

[00:26:22] and I got a good look at it, it was like, man, this thing is ugly as fuck. I mean,

[00:26:27] it'd be like driving a block of wood. And coming from a military guy who probably

[00:26:32] drove a Hummer at some point in his life, the population. It was my first vehicle,

[00:26:36] actually. It was a Humvee. I'll take the other side of the Cybertruck. I saw it in

[00:26:40] Phoenix twice. I think it's badass. My wife won't let me buy one or even think about it.

[00:26:47] They need to gift a Cybertruck to every rapper and pro athlete in the country and watch this

[00:26:52] thing go nuts. So it's just going to take a few celebrities to be in this thing that's going

[00:26:56] to make it pop. Now they have to figure out the whole breakdown. They say don't take it

[00:27:00] through a car wash. It's just weird. They're recalling them all because of

[00:27:06] the accelerator sticking. I mean, it's like, what the fuck?

[00:27:10] That makes car wash problems seem really, really little in comparison. So Cybertruck,

[00:27:16] I think it's badass. Whatever. We'll see. Twitter, a lot of people don't remember this.

[00:27:19] In 2016, Twitter aired some Thursday night football games. They're not airing them anymore.

[00:27:25] Shockingly, people didn't understand. I got a smart TV, download a Twitter app. I watch from

[00:27:30] my computer. I just don't get it. So I'm not sure how XTV, it's almost just silly to say XTV.

[00:27:37] It better have good porn if it's called XTV. That's all I'm saying.

[00:27:41] Triple XTV.

[00:27:42] So I think that's one of his frivolous bullshit comments he made about autonomous

[00:27:46] vehicles over a decade ago that it was going to happen really, really soon.

[00:27:50] In terms of LinkedIn, man, put up or shut up. You're going to talk shit about LinkedIn

[00:27:54] and it's not cool and people are zombies on it. Let's see something. Let's see you

[00:28:00] do some LinkedIn competitor shit. I don't know what it's like. You did jobs.

[00:28:04] That hasn't really set the world on fire. See a profile thing. So just put up or shut up

[00:28:10] in terms of LinkedIn. Now, the one thing I did think was interesting is laying off

[00:28:15] HR executive. And the reason I think it's important is because people do watch

[00:28:19] what Elon does. And when he lays off 80% of his tech team, the year of efficiency kicks in

[00:28:25] and multiple tech companies start laying off a lot of tech people.

[00:28:30] If he is in Silicon Valley where we're saying, we laid off HR, we didn't miss a beat,

[00:28:35] you don't need HR, we have automation or whatever it is, people are going to listen,

[00:28:40] whether you agree with it or not. And they're going to say, do we really need

[00:28:42] an HR department? And if Elon can say, you don't need an HR department, yes, guess what?

[00:28:47] A lot of companies are going to go say, oh yeah, we don't need an HR department.

[00:28:50] And you're going to see this trend happen where HR executives are like, oh shit,

[00:28:54] Elon put me out of a job because he told the world that you don't need an HR department.

[00:28:59] So that's the one thing that I would watch in regards to our space. Hopefully,

[00:29:03] people will ignore it and just say it's just an executive because it's kind of mysterious.

[00:29:07] They don't know if she resigned, if she was fired. It's sort of veiled in mystery

[00:29:13] what happened to this person. But I do think it's a trend to watch if he comes out and

[00:29:17] says you don't need HR, that's probably bad for HR.

[00:29:20] Yeah, I don't think that matters at all because many of the companies look at HR and they do see

[00:29:26] it as a cost center, which I've said in many cases is bullshit. But when you start taking a

[00:29:32] look at compliance and that motherfucker who takes a shit ton of government funding, taxpayer

[00:29:38] dollars, I guarantee you he with SpaceX, he has a robust HR team, compliance team,

[00:29:46] auditing team. I guarantee you because that company does not exist without taxpayer dollars,

[00:29:52] period. Doesn't exist. All right, let's get into unions.

[00:29:56] Hotel workers that are unionized in 18 US and Canadian cities will rally on May Day for

[00:30:02] significant pay raises as negotiations begin with Marriott International, Hilton Worldwide

[00:30:07] Holdings, and Hyatt Hotels, Inc. The talks will cover about 40,000 workers seeking to

[00:30:13] reverse pandemic era staffing cuts and secure higher wages. Chad, what's good for the auto

[00:30:19] workers is probably good for the hotel folks too. What are your thoughts?

[00:30:24] Yeah, I mean having a collective voice is really the only way to go for hospitality workers.

[00:30:28] And I'm sure those 40,000 hospitality workers heard Sean Fain, the president of the UAW,

[00:30:33] talking about out of control CEO and executive pay versus everyday American workers getting

[00:30:38] the scraps. Plus the UAW in Domler Trucks last Friday struck a tentative deal which

[00:30:44] includes a minimum pay raise of 25% for union employees. So these workers are seeing the

[00:30:51] power of collective bargaining. And I mean, if you take a look at the Marriott

[00:30:56] International CEO, Anthony Capiano, that is one hell of an Italian name. I love that.

[00:31:02] His total compensation via salary.com says it's $18 million and that's 506 times the median

[00:31:10] employee pay. It's out of control. So when it comes down to once again, back in 1978,

[00:31:17] CEO pay in the US has skyrocketed from 78 to today 1200% while worker increases, a mere 15%

[00:31:27] in the exact same time period. So this all affects from the trickle down,

[00:31:32] AKA supplied side economics era, the money went to the top and it never trickled down.

[00:31:37] And that's what's fueling all this dissension within the corporate ranks. So for all those

[00:31:42] people who are using and talking about the unions are corrupt, whole line of propaganda

[00:31:49] and thinking, look at the fucking numbers because without union representation, these

[00:31:53] workers are getting fucked and getting paid poverty wages and also understaffed. So this

[00:32:00] is something that we need. We went way too far in one direction. Now we've got to try

[00:32:04] to rebalance. So if it does go all the way over in the other direction to try to get

[00:32:08] it to balance, I see that's the only way to do it.

[00:32:10] All right.

[00:32:11] So the pandemic happens, no one travels and layoffs happen. The ones that are left,

[00:32:19] the company says, look, to make it, you're going to have to take some cuts. You're going

[00:32:22] to have to swallow some pain, but when it comes back, we'll be fine. So just like the auto

[00:32:28] industry in 2008, but this is 10 years later. Yeah. Okay. We'll take the deal. We'll do what's

[00:32:35] good for the business. We want you to just survive and thrive. And I still want to have

[00:32:38] a job. So I'll take whatever concessions I need. Fast forward two, three, four years later,

[00:32:44] the company hasn't made good on returning salaries back to where they were. And by the

[00:32:49] way, inflation is really high for folks that are doing the jobs that actually really suck at

[00:32:55] hotels. By the way, guests are assholes. Like the fact that people deal with that should get

[00:33:00] pay anyway. Staff per occupied room is down 13% since 2019, according to the union. So they're

[00:33:09] doing more work for less pay and something's got to give. And I think the auto workers

[00:33:14] are a blueprint for like, how do we get the corporations to actually pay us a fair wage and

[00:33:19] get us to where we should be after the pandemic? And I think just like the auto workers, they're

[00:33:25] going to get what they ask for. I also think there's evidence to say that although Airbnb is

[00:33:31] robust in terms of revenues, but I think brand-wise, like I'm off Airbnb. I don't know

[00:33:38] about you, but it was fun for a while, but I like to have a front desk. I like, yeah,

[00:33:44] you love it. So, but I'm off it. I won't stay at Airbnb unless I absolutely have to. Now you

[00:33:49] stay longer at places than maybe I do. But I think there's a little bit of a reaction like

[00:33:54] Airbnb wasn't the killer, which was probably part of like, Hey, Airbnb is breathing down

[00:33:58] our neck. We need to make concessions in terms of salaries. I think that fear

[00:34:02] was largely bloated and exaggerated from what the reality is. So yeah, I mean,

[00:34:08] so the cities we're talking about Boston, the cities in California, Baltimore, Toronto,

[00:34:12] these are big cities. And if they win, hopefully you see a movement just like we have with the

[00:34:17] auto workers in Tennessee and other places. Yeah. And it's interesting. We talk about

[00:34:22] concessions for salaries. It's everybody below the executive ranks, right? Why are

[00:34:27] the workers always getting fucked? That's the question. And again, as the Sean Fain comes out

[00:34:32] and says, Hey, look, I know what's happening. This is what's happening. Everybody's looking

[00:34:36] at him going, yeah, that's exactly what's happening. That's why you need to join in

[00:34:39] unions. So I really see the UAW getting stronger. We've been talking about this and all these other

[00:34:45] unions are going to continue to gain momentum because many of these individuals have to work

[00:34:50] more than one job because they are getting paid poverty wages. And that to me is just,

[00:34:55] that's just inhumane. Inhumane. Unlike our sponsorship advertisements, which are very

[00:35:01] people friendly. We'll be right back. Very humane.

[00:35:55] and start transforming your talent acquisition today. All right, Chad, the Biden administration

[00:36:01] plans to reclassify marijuana as a schedule three controlled substance, recognizing its

[00:36:06] medical benefits. This move follows recommendations from the Department of Justice and could lead to

[00:36:11] easier access for research and changes in the cannabis industry. Despite this reclassification,

[00:36:17] marijuana will remain illegal under federal law for recreational use. A step in the right

[00:36:22] direction, I suspect. Your thoughts? Yeah, my thoughts are a little reefer madness.

[00:36:28] I think I want to share something with the listeners and especially those watching on

[00:36:34] YouTube. So here we go. Watch this. This is Reefer Madness from a 1936. This was actually a movie,

[00:36:41] kids. These high school boys and girls are having a hop at the local soda fountain.

[00:36:46] Innocently they dance. Innocent of a new and deadly menace lurking behind closed doors.

[00:36:53] The burning weed with its roots in hell.

[00:37:00] In this film you will see the ease with which this vicious plant can be grown in your

[00:37:05] neighbor's yard ruled into harmless cigarettes hidden in an innocent shoe or watch case.

[00:37:13] If you want a good smoke, try one of these. You will meet Bill who once took pride in his

[00:37:19] strong will as he takes the first step.

[00:37:22] Women.

[00:37:30] Not sure how women being looser and hornier is a way to get people to not.

[00:37:40] He's coming over the edge.

[00:37:53] Suicide.

[00:38:01] Want a heart attack?

[00:38:17] Before it's too late. Reefer Madness, kids. That was the kind of bullshit propaganda in the 1930s.

[00:38:25] I have never, and you tell me, I've had discussions with many of my friends around this.

[00:38:30] I've never seen somebody smoke weed or do weed and get aggressive.

[00:38:34] Suicidal.

[00:38:35] Violent. Never. Or suicidal. None of that. None of that happens.

[00:38:40] Every film back then had to pass through government filter.

[00:38:43] It's ridiculous.

[00:38:44] You don't think the tobacco companies didn't have something to say about the making of that movie.

[00:38:49] Yeah, totally ridiculous. But look, I had no idea.

[00:38:52] Marijuana up until this legislation was the same category as fentanyl, heroin. No common

[00:38:59] sense person would say that fentanyl is on the same level. Cocaine is less apparently

[00:39:07] than marijuana. This to me is a logical thing. Let's be frank, it's smart to do

[00:39:13] in election season. If I'm Joe Biden, I want more younger people in these states that some

[00:39:18] are swing states. Hello, Michigan. That would probably be favorable to this.

[00:39:23] I haven't talked about my time at the Sphere with fish. I don't know.

[00:39:28] There was some hot messes at the Sphere for fish. Be responsible, kids. You can't

[00:39:35] overdo it, but you can overdose and there's no hangover. So there's that.

[00:39:39] By the way, whiskey sales down, beer, wine. The kids are doing gummies and edibles and not doing

[00:39:47] the whiskey stuff, which for me frankly is great news. It means cheaper whiskey and more

[00:39:53] available whiskey. So as far as I'm concerned, we out. Amen. We out.

[00:39:59] Thank you for listening to what's it called? A podcast. The chat. The cheese. Brilliant.

[00:40:06] They talk about recruiting. They talk about technology, but most of all,

[00:40:11] they talk about nothing. Just a lot of shout outs of people you don't even know.

[00:40:16] And yet you're listening. It's incredible. And not one word about cheese, but one cheddar,
