Europe's new football champions, Cricket picks up again and it's Grand Slam time

All’s not well in the wrestling circuit since the news of Sushil Kumar’s involvement in murder of fellow wrestler has come out. Gloom prevails in the Indian Women’s team due to non-payments and omissions. Mr. Fantastic comes bearing updates about IPL and the World Test Championships. Prospects of Rahul Dravid taking charge of the Indian Cricket Team also emerges. Snapping out of cricket, he also engages with Soumil Arora in a fiery conversation about the Formula 1 scene which turned into a Greek tragedy once Charles LeClerc crashed. There are talks about Hamilton and Mercedes having serious competition in the Driver’s Championship. A lot of action continues to take place on the football grounds as Athletico won the La Liga title and Lille bagged their first title in a decade. An inquisitive Mr. Fantastic also raises questions about some very important players. On the tennis front Grand Slam is back and the big question is who is going to win it – the Gods of Tennis or the Next Gen?

00:00:04

Speaker 1: Yeah.

00:00:05

Speaker 1: Mhm.

00:00:06

Speaker 1: Welcome

00:00:07

Speaker 2: to Sports Weekly with Aya's

00:00:09

Speaker 1: Memon

00:00:12

Speaker 1: Mhm.

00:00:12

Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Sports Weekly. I'm your host. I

00:00:16

Speaker 1: asked me and this week's program, we've got a heck

00:00:19

Speaker 1: of a lot of stories and some really interesting ones.

00:00:23

Speaker 1: Also controversial ones, also some bizarre ones. And I must

00:00:26

Speaker 1: talk about the bizarre one. First, first it's about Sushil Kumar,

00:00:30

Speaker 1: the most celebrated wrestler from India who was on the

00:00:34

Speaker 1: run from the cops on a murder charge has finally

00:00:37

Speaker 1: been arrested. It took the police three weeks to locate

00:00:41

Speaker 1: him in. Meanwhile, Social Kumar was going from one state

00:00:44

Speaker 1: to another in North India, from Haryana to U. P.

00:00:47

Speaker 1: To Delhi and finally he was nap. But this is

00:00:51

Speaker 1: a story that is going to

00:00:53

Speaker 1: reverberate for a long time to come. I think we're

00:00:55

Speaker 1: going to talk also about cricket. There's a lot of

00:00:58

Speaker 1: cricket in this week's edition, there's women's cricket, there's uh

00:01:02

Speaker 1: international cricket that is happening. And also we're heading into

00:01:05

Speaker 1: the World test championship in june that's between India and

00:01:09

Speaker 1: new Zealand both the teams and the final. We look

00:01:11

Speaker 1: at what the prospects are for both teams

00:01:14

Speaker 1: and then there's, I've got Mr fantastic, I'm going to

00:01:17

Speaker 1: draw into the show very soon after that, we'll be

00:01:19

Speaker 1: joined by Samuel Aranda, we're going to talk about Formula One,

00:01:23

Speaker 1: about football, about tennis, remember we've got the french open

00:01:26

Speaker 1: coming up all in all, a lot of stories happening

00:01:29

Speaker 1: in the world of sport and thank God for that

00:01:32

Speaker 1: with otherwise we're just also suppressed by just looking and

00:01:36

Speaker 1: reading and trying to make sense of what's happening in

00:01:39

Speaker 1: this

00:01:39

Speaker 1: pandemic driven world. But let me first start with the

00:01:42

Speaker 1: big story this week before I get in. Mr Fantastic.

00:01:44

Speaker 1: And that's to do with social Kamala, the wrestler. As

00:01:47

Speaker 1: I mentioned, he's the most celebrated wrestler we've had, he's

00:01:50

Speaker 1: won olympic medals twice. In fact, I was there in

00:01:53

Speaker 1: London in 2012 when he won the silver medal before

00:01:57

Speaker 1: that in Beijing also, he had won the medal. So

00:01:59

Speaker 1: social Kumar has been the toast of the country and

00:02:01

Speaker 1: then you suddenly find on social media, I first got

00:02:04

Speaker 1: to know about social Kumar being alleged to have got

00:02:09

Speaker 1: involved in a murder case

00:02:10

Speaker 1: and then as the story kind of built up the

00:02:13

Speaker 1: allegations became stronger, the story got even more

00:02:17

Speaker 1: diabolically if I might put it that way. And then

00:02:19

Speaker 1: the parents that I can draw with social Kumar case

00:02:22

Speaker 1: was with O. J. Simpson way back when maybe 2.5

00:02:25

Speaker 1: decades ago in the U. S. And then of course

00:02:27

Speaker 1: in 2015 more closer to our time, Oscar Pistorius, the

00:02:31

Speaker 1: South African athlete who was also involved in a murder

00:02:35

Speaker 1: rap

00:02:36

Speaker 1: in his own house, that was

00:02:37

Speaker 1: O. J. Simpson also in a murder rap in his

00:02:40

Speaker 1: own home, social Kumar in the Nacala which is virtually

00:02:44

Speaker 1: like his home. So the 38 year old double olympic medalist,

00:02:47

Speaker 1: the reason for getting involved in such a sinister case

00:02:50

Speaker 1: is something

00:02:51

Speaker 1: that boggles my mind still. I mean you know the

00:02:54

Speaker 1: person who got killed in this episode was Sager Juncker

00:02:57

Speaker 1: who was also a wrestler from the charleston South Academy,

00:03:00

Speaker 1: which is uh social cameras base and uh Southern uncle

00:03:04

Speaker 1: was somebody who idolized, looked up to social camara. Somehow

00:03:07

Speaker 1: they had a fallout. There's, there's some story about a

00:03:10

Speaker 1: flat

00:03:11

Speaker 1: which belonged to social camara and these guys were staying

00:03:14

Speaker 1: there tanker and some other people, they were refusing to

00:03:17

Speaker 1: vacate the flat and so on. And it's just so

00:03:20

Speaker 1: bizarre to my mind of trying to understand what the hell,

00:03:23

Speaker 1: you know, how could somebody like a social Kumar who

00:03:26

Speaker 1: had the world at his feet, so to speak, who

00:03:27

Speaker 1: was probably a few months back preparing to go to

00:03:30

Speaker 1: the Tokyo olympics. It was uncertain whether he would go,

00:03:33

Speaker 1: but he was in line

00:03:35

Speaker 1: uh suddenly sucked into a murder rap criminal. I mean

00:03:39

Speaker 1: this is not something you associate with people from the

00:03:43

Speaker 1: sporting arena, so to speak, especially such celebrate people. So

00:03:47

Speaker 1: social tomorrow I'm afraid. You know, he is now in

00:03:49

Speaker 1: police custody, there's no expertise with which one can say

00:03:54

Speaker 1: what exactly has happened and where this will lead to.

00:03:56

Speaker 1: But

00:03:57

Speaker 1: clearly this is a big blow to his personal prestige,

00:04:01

Speaker 1: once the cases on below what he has to say.

00:04:03

Speaker 1: But also it's left the world of sports in India,

00:04:07

Speaker 1: certainly in a state of shock, but swiftly and quickly

00:04:11

Speaker 1: let me invite. Mr Fantastic, my co host at most times.

00:04:16

Speaker 1: He's been straining at the leash to get in and

00:04:18

Speaker 1: why not? He's got so many questions to be asking me.

00:04:21

Speaker 1: He mentioned to me the other day

00:04:23

Speaker 1: when we were discussing what we could be talking about

00:04:26

Speaker 1: this week and he said, you know, where do I

00:04:28

Speaker 1: start in Redway? And so mr. Fantastic. You can start

00:04:30

Speaker 1: wherever you want. But let's get cracking on some really

00:04:34

Speaker 1: interesting stuff.

00:04:35

Speaker 2: Thanks as I want to get started in hit on cricket.

00:04:38

Speaker 2: Uh First the I. P. L. Is back in focus

00:04:41

Speaker 2: and well it's not really a rumor anymore but the B. C. C. I.

00:04:45

Speaker 2: Has stated openly that they want to complete this tournament.

00:04:48

Speaker 2: But the question is when does it happen? And where

00:04:51

Speaker 2: and these two are obviously very closely linked. So where

00:04:54

Speaker 2: do you think it's likely to be the U. A.

00:04:56

Speaker 2: Or the U. K. You tell me?

00:04:59

Speaker 1: Million dollar question? Mr. Fantastic. Will the I. P. L.

00:05:02

Speaker 1: Be played in England or in the USA will be

00:05:05

Speaker 1: played in England in the month of august between the

00:05:08

Speaker 1: world has Championship final which ends in the last week

00:05:10

Speaker 1: of june and then the indians test series against England

00:05:13

Speaker 1: begins only in august august 4th. The first test might begin.

00:05:16

Speaker 1: So there's a good seven weeks in between. Will

00:05:20

Speaker 1: the I. P. L. B. Kind of slipped in there?

00:05:22

Speaker 1: Will it be accommodated? There are will it take place

00:05:25

Speaker 1: after the five test series ends which is around the

00:05:29

Speaker 1: 10th or 12th I think of september, so same middle

00:05:31

Speaker 1: mid september. And then remember there is the world T

00:05:35

Speaker 1: 20

00:05:36

Speaker 1: begins in India are scheduled to begin in India on

00:05:38

Speaker 1: october 18. So again, there's a 56 week window available

00:05:42

Speaker 1: there for the people to be squeezed in and that

00:05:45

Speaker 1: is being mentioned. That tournament or the completion of the

00:05:48

Speaker 1: second half of the tournament will take place in the

00:05:51

Speaker 1: it will also serve as a dress rehearsal as a

00:05:54

Speaker 1: build up to the world T 20 now I think look,

00:05:56

Speaker 1: both things are possible,

00:05:58

Speaker 1: but I think the two taking place on the completion

00:06:01

Speaker 1: of the tournament taking place in England

00:06:03

Speaker 1: is a bit of a problem because as soon as

00:06:06

Speaker 1: the World Chess Championship ends and before the test series

00:06:10

Speaker 1: against India begins, you know England, there's the 100 which

00:06:14

Speaker 1: is England's version of or T 20 tournament, much like

00:06:18

Speaker 1: the I. P. L. And the big bash is the

00:06:20

Speaker 1: inaugural season. I don't think that you know, the english

00:06:23

Speaker 1: authorities are going to surrender that. I mean if you

00:06:26

Speaker 1: have to surrender it, there'll be a massive

00:06:28

Speaker 1: quid pro quo basis. There will have to give and

00:06:31

Speaker 1: I don't think that's gonna work out. I mean it's

00:06:33

Speaker 1: not just about quid pro quo. I think there's a

00:06:34

Speaker 1: lot of pride

00:06:35

Speaker 1: for the cricket administration in England, which they will have

00:06:38

Speaker 1: to surrender, which I don't think they will remember. They

00:06:40

Speaker 1: also beholden to their counties. So to fit in that appeal,

00:06:43

Speaker 1: they have to juggle around the dates of the India

00:06:45

Speaker 1: England test series testing. These tickets have already been put

00:06:48

Speaker 1: on sale.

00:06:49

Speaker 1: Counties are already recording Brisk sales because it was a

00:06:52

Speaker 1: big draw in England, as you know, in fact everywhere.

00:06:54

Speaker 1: So there are too many hardships in the world and

00:06:57

Speaker 1: the offers a good opportunity for all kinds of players

00:07:01

Speaker 1: from all over the world to come. And we had

00:07:03

Speaker 1: a successful tournament there in 2020, the Pakistan Super League,

00:07:07

Speaker 1: the remaining part is going to be held there. So,

00:07:09

Speaker 1: all things considered the seems a better prospect to finish

00:07:13

Speaker 1: the tournament.

00:07:14

Speaker 1: The reason, of course, by the tournament needs to be

00:07:16

Speaker 1: finished and we're halfway through the season is because it's

00:07:19

Speaker 1: the tournament is not completed. The BCC s chance to

00:07:22

Speaker 1: lose a whopping 2500 crawl. Yes, you heard it right?

00:07:28

Speaker 1: 2500 crores. Obviously they don't want to lose that kind

00:07:31

Speaker 1: of money

00:07:32

Speaker 1: and I think also players want to play that because

00:07:34

Speaker 1: there's so much

00:07:36

Speaker 1: attention, fame money, they all get from the people. Why

00:07:39

Speaker 1: wouldn't they want to play? So, I think there will be,

00:07:41

Speaker 1: I think agreement, consensus amongst the players amongst the cricket boards.

00:07:45

Speaker 1: England will be happy that there's no encroachment on their

00:07:47

Speaker 1: domestic season. Itineraries, India will of course be happy that

00:07:50

Speaker 1: finally the appeal is completed. So if something can be

00:07:53

Speaker 1: worked out where everybody is happy, what could be better

00:07:56

Speaker 2: after the court saga. Last week, indian women's cricket is

00:07:58

Speaker 2: back in focus and this time it's about pending payments

00:08:01

Speaker 2: for last year's World Cup.

00:08:03

Speaker 2: And also the fact that central contracts have been announced.

00:08:06

Speaker 2: Which is good but there's a few notable emissions in there.

00:08:09

Speaker 2: I mean what's going on with women's cricket?

00:08:11

Speaker 1: Right? So that's a that's a very

00:08:13

Speaker 2: pertinent issue

00:08:14

Speaker 1: you raised. Mr fantastic about women's cricket and indian women's

00:08:17

Speaker 1: cricket because after finishing

00:08:20

Speaker 1: In the final or losing in the final last year

00:08:23

Speaker 1: in the World Cup T20 World Cup in March 2020,

00:08:26

Speaker 1: I was there for that match and

00:08:27

Speaker 1: it was a terrific tournament and we had a packed

00:08:30

Speaker 1: house in the M. C. G. Because of the indian girls,

00:08:32

Speaker 1: I might add of course the Australian team was also there,

00:08:34

Speaker 1: but you know, to get 80 odd people for women's

00:08:38

Speaker 1: cricket final. That you know, absolutely fantastic. And remember this

00:08:41

Speaker 1: is around the time that the pandemic was beginning to

00:08:44

Speaker 1: rear its ugly head uh in Australia, it wasn't declared

00:08:47

Speaker 1: a pandemic till then.

00:08:49

Speaker 1: But you know, a lot

00:08:51

Speaker 2: of people are traveled

00:08:52

Speaker 1: from I know from India and I was one of them.

00:08:54

Speaker 1: The

00:08:55

Speaker 2: point I'm trying to make is

00:08:56

Speaker 1: women's cricket in India and indian women's team had been

00:09:00

Speaker 1: making waves internationally. Uh you know, they've done extremely well.

00:09:04

Speaker 1: So you would expect that there will be a lot

00:09:07

Speaker 1: more

00:09:08

Speaker 1: respect and time given to women's cricket by the indian

00:09:11

Speaker 1: cricket authorities. In one of the past programs,

00:09:14

Speaker 1: we've had this conversation that charlotte was our guest then

00:09:17

Speaker 1: and we discussed how the BCC actually has abdicated their

00:09:21

Speaker 1: responsibility and this is just another example which has been

00:09:24

Speaker 1: highlighted that the women's team is yet to receive the

00:09:29

Speaker 1: prize money for the 2020 World Cup. Now remember that's

00:09:32

Speaker 1: about a good Lord. About 14 months back and this

00:09:35

Speaker 1: is an I. C. C. Tournament. So within a couple

00:09:37

Speaker 1: of weeks, maybe a month

00:09:38

Speaker 1: the I. C. C. Would have sent the money to

00:09:40

Speaker 1: the respective cricket boards, to the Australian cricket board for

00:09:43

Speaker 1: the winning team, to the business here, for the runner

00:09:46

Speaker 1: up team. And then you would expect that within maybe

00:09:50

Speaker 1: another four weeks that's two months and all the money

00:09:53

Speaker 1: would have reached the players.

00:09:55

Speaker 1: But 14 months later it's not yet reached the players.

00:09:58

Speaker 1: Now that's that's shocking. It shows that there is a

00:10:02

Speaker 1: administrative lethargy, not just lethargy. I would think that's apathy

00:10:07

Speaker 1: that they take so long to process something that should

00:10:11

Speaker 1: not have taken.

00:10:12

Speaker 1: I think even 10 minutes once the peoples come to you.

00:10:15

Speaker 1: And

00:10:16

Speaker 1: one of the stories which are red and this is

00:10:17

Speaker 1: important is, you know, in fact, the story was broken

00:10:20

Speaker 1: in the Daily Telegraph, London's Daily Telegraph. This story that

00:10:24

Speaker 1: in the women's team hasn't received its money has yet.

00:10:26

Speaker 1: And one of the things that is mentioned there is

00:10:29

Speaker 1: that there is no affiliation to the cricketers association internationally

00:10:33

Speaker 1: is very weak in indian cricket. In fact, even in

00:10:35

Speaker 1: the men's section,

00:10:36

Speaker 1: that holds too, not just in the women's section and

00:10:39

Speaker 1: therefore there is no platform or front which can fight

00:10:43

Speaker 1: for you. That's really becoming an issue. That's something to

00:10:46

Speaker 1: be taken care of now or what I hear is

00:10:48

Speaker 1: that the BCC says yes, they will disperse the money

00:10:51

Speaker 1: swiftly quickly. I wonder why they have to get a

00:10:53

Speaker 1: rap on the knuckles, from the players, from the media,

00:10:56

Speaker 1: from some other country before they move into action. But

00:10:59

Speaker 1: there it is, I think this issue should be shorted out.

00:11:01

Speaker 1: The other issue, of course, the women's contract central contracts

00:11:05

Speaker 1: have been announced, Grade A Grade B, grade C, much

00:11:07

Speaker 1: like the men's team. But look at the difference in

00:11:10

Speaker 1: the value of the contract women's cricket grade A 50

00:11:14

Speaker 1: lack where its seventh role for the indian team, men's

00:11:17

Speaker 1: team in Grade B, it's

00:11:19

Speaker 1: 30 lack, it's three crore and then in the women's great,

00:11:23

Speaker 1: see it's 10, like while it's one clove in men's crickets,

00:11:26

Speaker 1: which shows the disparity now, you know, there are pros

00:11:29

Speaker 1: and cons the arguments are there that where does the

00:11:31

Speaker 1: business here make more money from from men's cricket, of

00:11:34

Speaker 1: women's cricket and so on. The argument goes on and on.

00:11:37

Speaker 1: You know, but sometimes I think one has to these

00:11:40

Speaker 1: disingenuous arguments, you have to kind of snuff out. So

00:11:43

Speaker 1: let me give you an argument which may, I mean,

00:11:47

Speaker 1: you know, if it makes any sense is how do

00:11:49

Speaker 1: I see it? For instance, you've got new state cricket

00:11:53

Speaker 1: association's coming and say are some cricket association or you know,

00:11:57

Speaker 1: darkened or one of these which have come up lately

00:12:00

Speaker 1: and then there is Mumbai cricket association molester cricket association.

00:12:03

Speaker 1: So as to cricket association,

00:12:05

Speaker 1: when the disbursement of the money takes place from the

00:12:08

Speaker 1: BCC for these, it's not a chalk and cheese difference,

00:12:10

Speaker 1: you know, it's not the Mumbai cricket association will get

00:12:13

Speaker 1: 100 Kroll and darken Cricket association will get five or

00:12:17

Speaker 1: 10 crore. It doesn't happen like that. The job of

00:12:20

Speaker 1: the BCC is to ensure apart from transparencies, as much

00:12:23

Speaker 1: clarity as possible. So, I think that's something

00:12:25

Speaker 1: that needs to be addressed by women's cricket is concerned.

00:12:28

Speaker 1: The other issue you raise about if the base is

00:12:30

Speaker 1: being committed, though, she's been picked for all three formats

00:12:33

Speaker 1: for India's to to England, I think that can be

00:12:35

Speaker 1: an anomaly. So just to give an example, I'm not

00:12:38

Speaker 1: exactly sure what the status was, but suppose you have

00:12:40

Speaker 1: a guy like a shark attack or or or human

00:12:43

Speaker 1: girls who were in Australia actually ended up playing all

00:12:46

Speaker 1: three formats. Now, these are anomaly. These things can happen.

00:12:50

Speaker 1: I hope it's not deliberate, but if it's an anomaly,

00:12:52

Speaker 1: it should be addressed quickly and things should move on.

00:12:55

Speaker 2: Now. Here's a curious question I have, how many national

00:12:58

Speaker 2: teams does India have

00:13:00

Speaker 2: I asked this because we have a team traveling to

00:13:03

Speaker 2: England next month while this team is, they're playing the

00:13:05

Speaker 2: world test championship and the tour of England, we'll also

00:13:09

Speaker 2: have a team playing in Sri Lanka, Is this even okay?

00:13:12

Speaker 2: Because the other team going to Sri Lanka has not

00:13:14

Speaker 2: even been called India.

00:13:15

Speaker 1: A

00:13:16

Speaker 1: well, yes, India is sending a team to Sri Lanka

00:13:18

Speaker 1: in july is for a couple of uh limited overs

00:13:22

Speaker 1: series or white ball cricket series. I think there'll be

00:13:24

Speaker 1: 3 to 20 matches, the audio matches and there's a

00:13:27

Speaker 1: whole set of players who would, you know, could easily

00:13:30

Speaker 1: be in the indian team. That's how rich and strong

00:13:32

Speaker 1: the indian cricket scenario is right now. I mean, look

00:13:35

Speaker 1: at somebody like a trigger, the one he started to

00:13:38

Speaker 1: be the captain there split three show their school the

00:13:40

Speaker 1: period of not signing and so many others who were

00:13:43

Speaker 1: with the indian team not too long back, but they

00:13:45

Speaker 1: haven't found a place for the series against England. So, yes,

00:13:49

Speaker 1: I mean, you could say that, I

00:13:51

Speaker 2: don't know whether it's going to be a trend

00:13:53

Speaker 1: of two teams to national teams coming up because I

00:13:55

Speaker 1: don't think

00:13:56

Speaker 1: most of the,

00:13:58

Speaker 1: any other country has this kind of bench strength as

00:14:00

Speaker 1: India has currently in the old days, we used to

00:14:03

Speaker 1: say as journalists that, you know, Australia can feel two

00:14:06

Speaker 1: teams easily. Now, India can feel two, perhaps even three teams,

00:14:11

Speaker 1: but I don't think the other teams can not Australia,

00:14:14

Speaker 1: not England, not South Africa Pakistan. So I don't know

00:14:17

Speaker 1: if that's going to be the trend, but

00:14:19

Speaker 1: what might happen is that another engine, you know, you

00:14:23

Speaker 1: could call it India or whatever it is, could be

00:14:26

Speaker 1: with promising players or bench players. Those have not found

00:14:29

Speaker 1: a place if they are engaged if they kept busy.

00:14:32

Speaker 1: And remember, most countries would love to host such a

00:14:34

Speaker 1: team because indian players offer an attraction for sponsors, broadcasters, etcetera.

00:14:39

Speaker 1: So this could happen that India keeps sending another team

00:14:42

Speaker 1: across the cricket world regards to Dravid. Now, you know

00:14:46

Speaker 1: how robert is the chairman of the National Cricket Academy

00:14:49

Speaker 1: has also been the mentor for the India 18 before

00:14:53

Speaker 1: that the indian under 19 team, but currently his head

00:14:56

Speaker 1: of the N. C. And it said we don't know

00:14:58

Speaker 1: as yet completely but robert will accompany the team as

00:15:02

Speaker 1: coach is something that is being discussed widely

00:15:04

Speaker 1: in indian cricket circles and there are two reasons for it.

00:15:07

Speaker 1: One is of course that you know, he's not available,

00:15:10

Speaker 1: he's in England, he's in England with the indian cricket

00:15:12

Speaker 1: team and he's there to mid september by the time

00:15:15

Speaker 1: they're to rent and then he comes back and then

00:15:17

Speaker 1: of course they'll be preparing for the world T 20.

00:15:19

Speaker 1: So he's not available robert because he's been in this

00:15:22

Speaker 1: role mentor with the India under 90 teams

00:15:27

Speaker 1: Is the best option to pick fall, not just for

00:15:30

Speaker 1: because he's been there and you know, he's seen all

00:15:32

Speaker 1: these players, he's groomed them, but also because after the

00:15:36

Speaker 1: world t. 20 that is rubbish as his last assignment

00:15:39

Speaker 1: from what I gather is that he will not continue,

00:15:42

Speaker 1: he does not want to continue.

00:15:44

Speaker 1: This is what I hear. I don't think that the

00:15:46

Speaker 1: BCC offered him also a continuation but that technically that

00:15:50

Speaker 1: is the last assignment. So if you have somebody who

00:15:52

Speaker 1: has to step into fast issues, take the baton from him,

00:15:55

Speaker 1: so to speak, then drive. It becomes a logical choice,

00:15:59

Speaker 1: you know, and then it becomes a very smart move

00:16:02

Speaker 1: the BCC to send them to shillong first. It all

00:16:05

Speaker 1: depends on

00:16:06

Speaker 1: whether rahul Dravid wants the coach's job for a length

00:16:11

Speaker 1: of time for a period of time. You know, it's

00:16:12

Speaker 1: a one of assignment is a different thing from having

00:16:15

Speaker 1: a two or three or a four year term as

00:16:17

Speaker 1: has happened in the case of uh of rubbish. So

00:16:20

Speaker 1: that will depend on how Darwin himself sees his role.

00:16:24

Speaker 1: If it interests him to become the coach. I think

00:16:26

Speaker 1: that will be, it will be a great thing for India.

00:16:29

Speaker 2: Well, maybe one day Rahul Dravid will be the coach

00:16:31

Speaker 2: of all indian teams playing out there.

00:16:33

Speaker 2: But till then ravi Shastri is, it has to

00:16:36

Speaker 1: do. And that's the big match coming up in june

00:16:39

Speaker 1: the World Test

00:16:39

Speaker 2: Championship final against New Zealand. Three weeks left to go.

00:16:44

Speaker 2: What do you think? The chances are areas for the

00:16:46

Speaker 2: team who are the favorites and how's the preparations going?

00:16:50

Speaker 1: Right? You're right. Absolutely right. Mr. Fantastic. The big, the

00:16:53

Speaker 1: big story coming up next month and cricket is the

00:16:55

Speaker 1: World

00:16:56

Speaker 1: Test Championship finals between India and New Zealand. Before that

00:16:59

Speaker 1: of course, New Zealand is going to play a couple

00:17:01

Speaker 1: of tests matches against England. So they get a chance

00:17:04

Speaker 1: to warm up build up because a test environment that

00:17:08

Speaker 1: they are using to prepare for the World Chess Championship Final,

00:17:11

Speaker 1: which is not the case with India. So in that

00:17:13

Speaker 1: sense you can say that

00:17:15

Speaker 1: perhaps a bit of a handicap for India in terms

00:17:17

Speaker 1: of preparation. And remember also the indians,

00:17:20

Speaker 1: the team flies there on june the second and the

00:17:23

Speaker 1: match begins on 18th of june 18 to 22nd is

00:17:26

Speaker 1: the World Chess Championship Finals. So there are some warm

00:17:29

Speaker 1: up matches, but that's after the quarantine period, so useful

00:17:32

Speaker 1: and advantage of having reached early to test matches, momentum

00:17:37

Speaker 1: they can carry into

00:17:38

Speaker 2: the World has Championship

00:17:39

Speaker 1: finals but of course they lose badly in that momentum

00:17:42

Speaker 1: could be negative.

00:17:43

Speaker 1: Now as far as the teams are concerned we know

00:17:46

Speaker 1: what the teams are selections are in England or english

00:17:49

Speaker 1: conditions could be very beneficial to new Zealand. I mean

00:17:52

Speaker 1: they've got high quality pace attack. The patting seems a

00:17:55

Speaker 1: little bit wobbly in test cricket and the five reformat

00:17:57

Speaker 1: not in the audio format apart from Kane Williamson. They

00:18:01

Speaker 1: need to get runs from sale ross taylor and some

00:18:04

Speaker 1: of the other senior pros. But when you look at

00:18:06

Speaker 1: the bowling attack they've got Trent bold tim Southee kylie Jamison,

00:18:11

Speaker 1: it's a formidable pace attacks that they've got. They've also

00:18:15

Speaker 1: got some spinners Michele Santana who could be of value

00:18:18

Speaker 1: in England, it's the first last operate fielding team.

00:18:22

Speaker 1: Of course India have done exceptionally well in the lead

00:18:24

Speaker 1: up to the W. T. C. So is the number

00:18:27

Speaker 1: one ranked team is also number one

00:18:29

Speaker 1: in the W. T. C. Points system. So and they've

00:18:32

Speaker 1: had a couple of great winds won against Australia in

00:18:35

Speaker 1: Australia and then beating in England at home by the

00:18:38

Speaker 1: time you know India and you then get down together

00:18:40

Speaker 1: to play the World test championship. It'll be about five

00:18:43

Speaker 1: months since in the last period of test match.

00:18:45

Speaker 1: But I think when you look at the batting lineup

00:18:47

Speaker 1: there's gil and there's a glory Sharma, the genre

00:18:51

Speaker 1: without calling Ronnie punt then they all around us. You

00:18:54

Speaker 1: know Georgia is back, R Ashwin top of the game.

00:18:57

Speaker 1: Show me his back camera is there and asian Sharma

00:19:01

Speaker 1: so it's a very strong indian lineup and I think

00:19:05

Speaker 1: India are riding high because they've tasted success in very

00:19:08

Speaker 1: adverse situations

00:19:10

Speaker 1: even

00:19:10

Speaker 2: when they beat England

00:19:11

Speaker 1: at home. Remember they lost the first match

00:19:14

Speaker 1: so to come from behind and won a test series.

00:19:16

Speaker 1: So emphatically his credit to the indian team I think

00:19:18

Speaker 1: that you know I had a chance to speak to

00:19:21

Speaker 1: the city just before he went into the bubble and

00:19:23

Speaker 1: he says that you know I've just been having casual

00:19:26

Speaker 1: chats with the players and they are all raring to go.

00:19:29

Speaker 1: I mean they missed out on the I peel the

00:19:31

Speaker 1: completion of the I. P. L.

00:19:32

Speaker 1: Remember look at it from without call this point of view.

00:19:35

Speaker 1: He's got all the runs the titles, the plotters, the accolades.

00:19:39

Speaker 1: But it doesn't have their two things he doesn't want.

00:19:41

Speaker 1: He doesn't have the appeal title for RCB the other

00:19:44

Speaker 1: you don't have an I. C. C. Title. So while

00:19:46

Speaker 1: the indian team has been number one in test cricket

00:19:48

Speaker 1: for a long while under uh police captain See there's

00:19:51

Speaker 1: no I. C. C. Tournament. That is one not the

00:19:53

Speaker 1: Champions Trophy not the World T. 20 not the O. D. I.

00:19:56

Speaker 1: World Cup. Now this is an opportunity

00:19:59

Speaker 1: to get

00:20:00

Speaker 2: an I. C.

00:20:00

Speaker 1: C. Trophy on discovered because India has been the most

00:20:04

Speaker 1: consistent team in test cricket over over the last four

00:20:08

Speaker 1: years now. Every year, the last year they finished on

00:20:11

Speaker 1: top as the number one ranked team. So that is

00:20:13

Speaker 1: something that I think Cali and the other players will

00:20:16

Speaker 1: want to take into that self belief that we can win.

00:20:19

Speaker 1: We can win even if the matches in England not

00:20:22

Speaker 1: at home

00:20:22

Speaker 1: and we can win this the inaugural World Chess Championship.

00:20:25

Speaker 1: I think it'll do wonders for both these countries, not

00:20:28

Speaker 1: just India but India more so because there are more

00:20:29

Speaker 1: people following cricket India remember what happened when India won

00:20:32

Speaker 1: the World Cup in 1983 for the first time and

00:20:35

Speaker 1: then the 2007 T 20 World Cup, the inaugural one

00:20:39

Speaker 1: for the first time. You know, it just took India's

00:20:43

Speaker 1: indian cricket to another level

00:20:44

Speaker 1: I suspect if India in this World Test championship final

00:20:47

Speaker 1: uh will have a similar impact. So even as the

00:20:50

Speaker 1: pandemic rages and we all wonder where the world is headed,

00:20:53

Speaker 1: you know, it's it's good to know that a lot

00:20:55

Speaker 1: of activity in the sports world is happening. I mentioned

00:20:58

Speaker 1: so much about cricket and then of course there is

00:21:00

Speaker 1: football, Formula One, tennis and much, much more. And for

00:21:04

Speaker 1: this to discuss all these, let me welcome Samuel Aurora

00:21:07

Speaker 1: to join Mr Fantastic and myself welcome Samuel onto the show.

00:21:11

Speaker 2: Thank you so much as always, a great pleasure to

00:21:14

Speaker 2: be a part of this show. And yeah, we've got

00:21:16

Speaker 2: so many good things to discuss today. I think it's

00:21:18

Speaker 2: gonna be a fun shot.

00:21:19

Speaker 2: So let's get started with the Formula One Samel That

00:21:22

Speaker 2: was a bit of a greek tragedy over the weekend,

00:21:24

Speaker 2: wasn't it? Ferrari was already to come in from the cold,

00:21:28

Speaker 2: they got the pole position, but then, like crashes and

00:21:33

Speaker 2: even after that there was a good chance they would

00:21:34

Speaker 2: have raised dressed normally, but the gearbox failed

00:21:38

Speaker 2: and you could see him on track as he was

00:21:40

Speaker 2: entering the opening lap. He was heartbroken. It's just a

00:21:44

Speaker 2: terrible tragedy, isn't it?

00:21:45

Speaker 2: It is. It is. But the actual issue, the reason

00:21:49

Speaker 2: why he could not start the race was not as

00:21:51

Speaker 2: gay box. Of course, the gay box failed on his

00:21:53

Speaker 2: way to the grid, but it was also a driveshaft issue.

00:21:56

Speaker 2: And now many people are wondering why did Ferrari Tate

00:21:59

Speaker 2: the extra gamble, shouldn't they have just taken a five

00:22:01

Speaker 2: place grid penalty and change the game box and the

00:22:04

Speaker 2: drive shaft

00:22:05

Speaker 2: and send him out right there with a good come

00:22:07

Speaker 2: and he would have started in P. Six, so he

00:22:08

Speaker 2: would not have had the best chance to get to

00:22:10

Speaker 2: the podium, but still at least they would have got

00:22:12

Speaker 2: some really critical points ahead of McLaren, the major rivals

00:22:16

Speaker 2: who also got a podium here this weekend. So many

00:22:19

Speaker 2: wonder what happened there with Ferrari. Was it a bit

00:22:21

Speaker 2: of a two passionate judgment? Was it a bit too

00:22:23

Speaker 2: emotional for the moment? I think perhaps here, I think

00:22:26

Speaker 2: they should have focused more on the long term, but

00:22:28

Speaker 2: what's good for them is that Carlos Sainz, their second

00:22:31

Speaker 2: driver has gone in and gotten second place, his best

00:22:34

Speaker 2: finish here at Monaco. What a race weekend that was

00:22:36

Speaker 2: for him.

00:22:37

Speaker 2: Absolutely. And one thing that's happened with the result that's

00:22:40

Speaker 2: come over is uh, the driver's championship is wide open. Hamilton,

00:22:44

Speaker 2: in fact, is now second and does Mercedes finally have

00:22:48

Speaker 2: serious competition?

00:22:49

Speaker 2: I think they do. So here's a start, courtesy of

00:22:52

Speaker 2: my colleague at the podium syndrome. We found out that

00:22:55

Speaker 2: whenever rebel has led the championship, they have ended up

00:22:58

Speaker 2: winning it, both the drivers and the constructor's championship. This

00:23:01

Speaker 2: has happened in 2013, 12, 11, 10. All the years now,

00:23:05

Speaker 2: this is the first time since ages, I think, how

00:23:08

Speaker 2: can I'm 2018

00:23:09

Speaker 2: that any team or driver apart from Mercedes has led

00:23:13

Speaker 2: both the drivers and the constructor's championship. It's a new

00:23:16

Speaker 2: position for max Verstappen and the gap is quite big

00:23:19

Speaker 2: here right now between Verstappen and Hamilton. It just shows

00:23:22

Speaker 2: you that they are, as I mentioned previously as well,

00:23:24

Speaker 2: they're walking on a tightrope one error and you could

00:23:27

Speaker 2: see the gap opening up so widely.

00:23:29

Speaker 2: But knowing Hamilton Mercedes, they'll be bouncing back very, very

00:23:32

Speaker 2: quickly and I feel that we're going to have a

00:23:34

Speaker 2: very good championship battle on our hands this time

00:23:37

Speaker 2: really, I mean you expect the Mercedes team to come

00:23:39

Speaker 2: back immediately know frailties exposed during this weekend.

00:23:43

Speaker 2: Uh, it takes so this was more of a track

00:23:46

Speaker 2: specific one Monaco, they just weren't able to make things

00:23:48

Speaker 2: work as for voluntary boathouses retirement. It was a very

00:23:52

Speaker 2: absurd pit stop error from Mercedes and it's a bit

00:23:54

Speaker 2: of a sad thing that Mercedes have made many, many,

00:23:58

Speaker 2: many pit stop errors since sake last year, they just

00:24:01

Speaker 2: haven't been able to get in the groove

00:24:03

Speaker 2: And they're losing 1 2nd on average on every pit stop,

00:24:06

Speaker 2: red bull racing this time. What what happened was that

00:24:09

Speaker 2: they actually bolted up the nut of the wheel so

00:24:11

Speaker 2: they actually changed the alignment of it while the wheel

00:24:14

Speaker 2: gun was being put in so they couldn't really get

00:24:16

Speaker 2: the wheel out and in fact it's monday morning, the

00:24:18

Speaker 2: wheel is still not out of the country bottles this car,

00:24:20

Speaker 2: there was no chance in which he was able to

00:24:22

Speaker 2: compete ahead. So for Mercedes, I hope it's a one

00:24:25

Speaker 2: off

00:24:25

Speaker 2: because I really don't want to see them struggling like

00:24:27

Speaker 2: they did in Monaco

00:24:28

Speaker 2: for Hamilton, it was more of a base deficit kind

00:24:30

Speaker 2: of thing, just not able to make the setup work

00:24:33

Speaker 2: but surely, surely the next time modern baku we're going

00:24:36

Speaker 2: to see a straight up headway fight between rebels and

00:24:38

Speaker 2: the series

00:24:39

Speaker 2: well exciting race but for a season that's just a

00:24:42

Speaker 2: few races in, there's still a lot more to happen. That, however,

00:24:46

Speaker 2: is not the case with the world of football, is

00:24:48

Speaker 2: its symbol?

00:24:49

Speaker 2: No, it isn't. All the championships have ended. And where

00:24:52

Speaker 2: do we begin? Mr Fantastic. Because everywhere there are so

00:24:56

Speaker 2: many good narratives to speak about.

00:24:58

Speaker 2: All right, you want to walk us through everything that

00:24:59

Speaker 2: transpired over this weekend?

00:25:01

Speaker 2: Of course, why not? Let's speak about la liga first,

00:25:04

Speaker 2: because that's the league that ended the first out of

00:25:06

Speaker 2: the major ones. And Atletico Madrid are your brand new

00:25:10

Speaker 2: LA liga champions for the first time since 2013 and

00:25:14

Speaker 2: 2014 within the title by just two points. They beat Valladolid,

00:25:19

Speaker 2: they did not slip up right there. That was the

00:25:21

Speaker 2: final hurdle.

00:25:22

Speaker 2: And even though Real Madrid beat Villarreal on the final day,

00:25:25

Speaker 2: nothing they can do to topple Athletico Madrid. They I

00:25:28

Speaker 2: a brand new champions. And many wonder what was the

00:25:31

Speaker 2: difference with Atletico Madrid this year? Why were they so

00:25:33

Speaker 2: much better than they have been in the last few years?

00:25:36

Speaker 2: The reason according to Diego Simeone, the legendary manager, luis

00:25:40

Speaker 2: Suarez to anyone goals this season before in the overall

00:25:43

Speaker 2: goal tally and was Atletico's top scorer as well. What

00:25:47

Speaker 2: a team effort. That was, their intense, aggressive style. Finally

00:25:50

Speaker 2: paying off mister fantastic. And it's so good to see

00:25:53

Speaker 2: a new winner, right? Absolutely. And luis Suarez? Yes, so

00:25:56

Speaker 2: many goals. But what's more interesting statistically is he scored

00:26:00

Speaker 2: 16 goals in matches that

00:26:02

Speaker 2: Atletico was supposed to lose because they were trailing. So

00:26:06

Speaker 2: those are points that he's brought back and I'm pretty

00:26:08

Speaker 2: sure that Barcelona is ruing the fact that they let

00:26:11

Speaker 2: him go last year. Exactly. But luckily for them, if

00:26:16

Speaker 2: the rumors are correct, Sergio Aguero might be on his way.

00:26:19

Speaker 2: but I think that's just solving the tip of the

00:26:22

Speaker 2: iceberg in terms of their problems. They've got so many

00:26:24

Speaker 2: more issues. The conundrum of messy. What about the younger

00:26:27

Speaker 2: players

00:26:28

Speaker 2: and more importantly, mr. Fantastic. How do they not go

00:26:31

Speaker 2: bankrupt in this situation?

00:26:33

Speaker 2: Absolutely. Well, that's something for the big money guys to

00:26:36

Speaker 2: figure out. Maybe the super League will save them, who knows?

00:26:38

Speaker 2: Oh yeah, if it ever happens, I certainly hope it doesn't. Yeah,

00:26:43

Speaker 2: so moving on to France. There's some very interesting and

00:26:46

Speaker 2: exciting news coming out of there as well.

00:26:49

Speaker 2: There is an at last we have a new champion

00:26:53

Speaker 2: here as well. It is L O S C a loss.

00:26:56

Speaker 2: Clearly whatever they like to call it. But yes, lille

00:26:58

Speaker 2: is your new french champions. They have beaten PSG fair

00:27:02

Speaker 2: and square and what what a sight it is, mister

00:27:05

Speaker 2: fantastic for years. PhD have won the legal, they've dominated that.

00:27:09

Speaker 2: They call it a Farmer's League.

00:27:11

Speaker 2: The farmers have come up with something special. They have

00:27:13

Speaker 2: toppled big money team and lille. What a story, right.

00:27:17

Speaker 2: No big superstars in that team. No major highlighted name

00:27:21

Speaker 2: as such. Walking into this season. But they have gone

00:27:23

Speaker 2: in there. They have won the league from P H.

00:27:25

Speaker 2: G by just one point that got rather nervy at

00:27:29

Speaker 2: the final few weekends.

00:27:31

Speaker 2: Absolutely. And while the french Champions were announced yesterday as

00:27:35

Speaker 2: with the spanish, England had its champion a couple of

00:27:37

Speaker 2: weeks ago. But that doesn't mean that there were any

00:27:40

Speaker 2: less exciting games over the weekend. Oh, yes, Chelsea tried

00:27:44

Speaker 2: their very best to put Leicester into the Champions League spots,

00:27:47

Speaker 2: but well, Lester don't take favors to, they counter Chelsea's

00:27:50

Speaker 2: 12 lost to Aston Villa by losing

00:27:53

Speaker 2: too far on their own double the margin. Let's lose.

00:27:56

Speaker 2: Big

00:27:57

Speaker 2: Let's lose. Big indeed. So let me describe this as

00:28:00

Speaker 2: it really happened, right? So the game began for Leicester

00:28:03

Speaker 2: City to get into the Champions League. They needed Chelsea

00:28:07

Speaker 2: to lose a and them to win. So what happened

00:28:10

Speaker 2: was that things were going on where less? They got

00:28:12

Speaker 2: a penalty first up against bombers escorted, but then in

00:28:15

Speaker 2: the 40th minute, Harry Kane equalised.

00:28:17

Speaker 2: So there

00:28:18

Speaker 2: things got a little bit shaky for them. Chelsea fans

00:28:20

Speaker 2: right there at Villa Park started to celebrate but three

00:28:22

Speaker 2: minutes later asked him with us go with a gold.

00:28:24

Speaker 2: They were one nil up against Chelsea. So there that

00:28:28

Speaker 2: was an even more fun thing. So in the end,

00:28:30

Speaker 2: will have a leading one nil at half time. Leicester

00:28:32

Speaker 2: were 11 with spurs that was a bit of an

00:28:34

Speaker 2: intriguing sight to watch. But the second half is where

00:28:37

Speaker 2: things really, really got very interesting spurs considered a penalty.

00:28:42

Speaker 2: Jamie Wiley scored his second 1 to 1 to Leicester

00:28:45

Speaker 2: and then Aston Villa they got another penalty to. So

00:28:48

Speaker 2: in the 52nd minute they go to channel up against Chelsea,

00:28:51

Speaker 2: it was all looking like Leicester City had booked their

00:28:54

Speaker 2: berth in the Champions League. And you know what happened

00:28:57

Speaker 2: right there? A simple thing.

00:28:59

Speaker 2: It felt like Leicester City started to play not to

00:29:01

Speaker 2: lose

00:29:02

Speaker 2: instead of playing to win. You could see their fear,

00:29:04

Speaker 2: you could see something happening in their body language, decided

00:29:07

Speaker 2: to be a bit more fearful of everything. And so

00:29:09

Speaker 2: KASPER Schmeichel, it's a bit of a handful of the name,

00:29:11

Speaker 2: isn't it? He ended up conceding an own goal by

00:29:14

Speaker 2: punching the ball into his net. After a shot came

00:29:17

Speaker 2: in from the Chelsea side to to what happens now,

00:29:20

Speaker 2: what happens then Villa Park

00:29:21

Speaker 2: is that Chelsea go ahead, They scored the first goal

00:29:24

Speaker 2: with Ben Chilwell. So right now Chelsea is 21 but less,

00:29:28

Speaker 2: there are 22 at this stage, they would be out

00:29:31

Speaker 2: of the Champions League on goal difference, but then Gareth

00:29:34

Speaker 2: bale just comes in and knocks them straight in the

00:29:36

Speaker 2: face gets it, scores two goals right at the very end.

00:29:39

Speaker 2: Unless there are out, it's

00:29:41

Speaker 2: just what the Premier League is all about. Mr fantastic.

00:29:44

Speaker 2: Those last minute last day changes,

00:29:46

Speaker 2: you could see the pendulum swinging right before your eyes

00:29:49

Speaker 2: and I think that is just the peak of live sports.

00:29:53

Speaker 2: This is what true entertainment really is like in the

00:29:55

Speaker 2: world of sports, I was jumping on top of myself,

00:29:57

Speaker 2: I was so excited to see what was happening and

00:30:00

Speaker 2: a consequence of that. Tottenham's due for win means that

00:30:03

Speaker 2: arsenal now

00:30:04

Speaker 2: No longer have European football for the first time in

00:30:07

Speaker 2: 25 years. Next season, baffling stuff. I think it's 26

00:30:11

Speaker 2: years actually. But then hey, who's counting among the good

00:30:14

Speaker 2: news was the fact that Liverpool managed to sneak back

00:30:16

Speaker 2: into the top three, not just four, and that doesn't

00:30:20

Speaker 2: bode well for English football.

00:30:23

Speaker 2: There are some open questions to bite at the end

00:30:25

Speaker 2: of this week is hurricane going to stay back at sports.

00:30:28

Speaker 2: The jersey that they recently launched does have his number

00:30:31

Speaker 2: is sergio. We're headed to Barcelona like you've already suggested

00:30:34

Speaker 2: and is most, all are going to be around for

00:30:36

Speaker 2: Liverpool's next year's campaign, a lot of exciting stuff coming

00:30:39

Speaker 2: home to follow. What do you think I have on?

00:30:42

Speaker 2: These are sort of finishes that really make league football

00:30:45

Speaker 2: what it is and

00:30:46

Speaker 2: you know, makes the super league look just what it

00:30:48

Speaker 2: is a greedy and out of placed on them and

00:30:50

Speaker 2: that never should have been conceptualized in the first place.

00:30:53

Speaker 1: Oh absolutely mister fantastic. I think, look, the super league

00:30:57

Speaker 1: got exposed, you know, for the hubris, for the greed

00:31:00

Speaker 1: that was being pursued by the team owners and obviously

00:31:03

Speaker 1: those new promoters who wanted to come in, but I

00:31:05

Speaker 1: think they were put in their places by fans. I

00:31:08

Speaker 1: think the power of the fans came through your

00:31:10

Speaker 1: and I think it's uh, let me put it very

00:31:14

Speaker 1: with a lot of Canada and the world just seems

00:31:16

Speaker 1: a better place for that.

00:31:17

Speaker 2: Well, thanks for that ideas. And while the football actions

00:31:22

Speaker 2: allowing us a little bit of time to breathe Grand

00:31:24

Speaker 2: Slam tennis is back and now it's french open. We've

00:31:27

Speaker 2: seen all the big names in action over the last

00:31:29

Speaker 2: few weeks. Nadal has had some titled winds. Novak has

00:31:32

Speaker 2: had some finals team has struggled when he's actually been

00:31:35

Speaker 2: absent for the last couple of weeks

00:31:37

Speaker 2: and federal will continue to struggle. He is himself said

00:31:39

Speaker 2: that he is not likely to win the title,

00:31:41

Speaker 2: but this is actually one of those years where it

00:31:43

Speaker 2: really seems like one of the next gen could win it.

00:31:47

Speaker 2: I know we spoke about this on our last episode

00:31:49

Speaker 2: as well, but if you look at the last few

00:31:51

Speaker 2: tournaments that have happened, it's always been one of Citypass

00:31:54

Speaker 2: Zverev Medvedev, Bertini now even Casper Ruud,

00:31:59

Speaker 2: well then the shape of Olive would have played, but

00:32:00

Speaker 2: he's pulled out of injury as of monday.

00:32:03

Speaker 2: So it's really one of those years where you feel

00:32:05

Speaker 2: that it's probably not going to be a Nadal or

00:32:08

Speaker 2: Djokovic winning the title. Of course, it all comes down

00:32:11

Speaker 2: to mental strength. The same kind of upheaval is also

00:32:14

Speaker 2: being seen in the women's game. It's going to be

00:32:17

Speaker 2: tough to pick a champion, but it's also hard to

00:32:19

Speaker 2: really look beyond the teenage defending champion in grocery attack

00:32:22

Speaker 2: 1 # one Ash party or Naomi Osaka

00:32:26

Speaker 1: who has past

00:32:27

Speaker 2: experience in winning grand slams.

00:32:28

Speaker 2: There's always an outside chance for the creates like serena Williams.

00:32:32

Speaker 2: But other than this, you really have to wonder if

00:32:34

Speaker 2: anyone has the mental fortitude to win. Two weeks of

00:32:38

Speaker 2: relentless tennis and in the women's game, if ever ceilings

00:32:43

Speaker 2: just don't matter. So we almost expect to be proven

00:32:46

Speaker 2: wrong even with our predictions. What do you guys think?

00:32:48

Speaker 2: So who do you pick for the title? So I'm

00:32:51

Speaker 2: going to start with the men's singles for this one

00:32:53

Speaker 2: and I really have no clue right. Nadal has traditionally

00:32:57

Speaker 2: been the favorite. He's the one everyone has their money on,

00:33:00

Speaker 2: but this year since it seems to be in good

00:33:02

Speaker 2: for me recently, won the leon to 50 then. Yeah,

00:33:05

Speaker 2: you might say it's just the 2 50 tournament, but

00:33:07

Speaker 2: he seems to be in a good groove. He's playing

00:33:09

Speaker 2: good tennis at this stage team you mentioned, maybe not him,

00:33:12

Speaker 2: he's not had the best of runs in the last

00:33:14

Speaker 2: few weeks, but Diego Schwartzman was really, really good last year.

00:33:18

Speaker 2: I want to see what he does this time out,

00:33:20

Speaker 2: but for him, I think the semi's might be the

00:33:23

Speaker 2: place where we see him eventually. He was only there

00:33:25

Speaker 2: in the same as last year, ended up losing the joker, which,

00:33:28

Speaker 2: but let's see what he can make up this time out.

00:33:30

Speaker 2: As for Medvedev,

00:33:32

Speaker 2: he's just

00:33:34

Speaker 2: in the worst possible run a form that he could

00:33:37

Speaker 2: possibly ask for. I think Roland Garros is the last

00:33:40

Speaker 2: place and nobody wants to be at this stage considering

00:33:42

Speaker 2: how uncomfortable he looks in the clay, so can't Medvedeva

00:33:45

Speaker 2: can't team out, but again, it's the french open, right?

00:33:48

Speaker 2: We never know which way things could be going eventually.

00:33:51

Speaker 2: Maybe you could have

00:33:53

Speaker 2: a big shock. Who knows what happens, right? It's a

00:33:55

Speaker 2: grand slam. Everyone is allowed to take part. Of course

00:33:58

Speaker 2: you do qualify as that is, but still, I I

00:33:59

Speaker 2: expect to see some major upset, more so in the

00:34:02

Speaker 2: women's skin, in the men's one. Well, for all, you know,

00:34:05

Speaker 2: federal might be standing with the trophy at the end

00:34:07

Speaker 2: of the next three weeks. Thank you so much. Mr Fantastic.

00:34:10

Speaker 2: Thank you so much. I ask for having me on

00:34:12

Speaker 2: this week. I'm very keen to see what happens in

00:34:14

Speaker 2: the Roland Garros this time out the first time, properly

00:34:17

Speaker 2: following tennis, like a hardcore fan, I think I'm not

00:34:19

Speaker 2: going to be disappointed. That's it from me for this week.

00:34:22

Speaker 2: Thanks for having me on the show again. I'll catch

00:34:24

Speaker 2: you next week.

00:34:25

Speaker 1: Thanks for that. Some of them Mr Fantastic. Tennis world

00:34:28

Speaker 1: is in a state of german, is it going to

00:34:30

Speaker 1: be the next or is it going to be the

00:34:33

Speaker 1: old guard which is going to prevail in the french open,

00:34:36

Speaker 1: the Syria and the women's championships to follow. And of course,

00:34:39

Speaker 1: all the other grand slams that the U. S. Open,

00:34:42

Speaker 1: Plus the other 80 autonomous. The jury is out on that.

00:34:44

Speaker 1: I would still tilt towards the likes of Djokovic and Nadal,

00:34:49

Speaker 1: also federal, in case, you know, if he's recovered and

00:34:52

Speaker 1: he's completely fit but of that for another day. Thanks

00:34:55

Speaker 1: a lot for joining in. Some L. Fantastic. And I'll

00:35:00

Speaker 1: call on you again next week.

00:35:02

Speaker 1: There is going to be a lot of action has

00:35:04

Speaker 1: been not just in tennis, but

00:35:06

Speaker 1: the cricket scene is holding up. The football scene is

00:35:08

Speaker 1: holding up. And we'll also have an update on what's

00:35:12

Speaker 1: happened in the Sushil Kumar, bewildering story about social command.

00:35:17

Speaker 1: I'll catch up with you again next week. Same time

00:35:19

Speaker 1: on the same show. Obviously. Take care till then. See you.

00:35:25

Speaker 1: Mhm.

00:35:27

Speaker 1: Yeah.
