You have brought your newborn home, you feel exhausted and lost, what to do to survive the postpartum.
Support the show[00:00:00] Hey Queens, so how to survive postpartum? There are 6 things that you can do which can help you in surviving the postpartum. You have done a very big thing and now you have come home with your brand new bond to your home.
[00:00:17] How would you manage things at home with all the sleep deprivation and physical tiredness? The first thing that you can do to take care of your health is the nutrition.
[00:00:30] This will sound cliche but this is very important for a mom to physically overcome your tiredness and recover yourself. Recovering yourself and overcoming tiredness is half the job done. You will be ready to take on everything that comes your way if you have recovered.
[00:00:50] In our side, they prepare a curry with lots of pepper, garlic and ghee. The ghee helps in healing the internal wounds and the pepper helps in digestion. The garlic helps you to secrete more milk.
[00:01:11] So these are the things that they do and in every part of the world they would have their own remedy at home which they would prepare and give for the postpartum mother. The second thing is the right frame of mind.
[00:01:28] Things have changed, your routine, your body, your home, your place, everything has changed. For the body, it usually takes 10 to 15 days to bounce back to normal and if you have had a C-section then the internal wounds and scars to recover at least takes like 1.5 years.
[00:01:48] So don't push yourself but keep your mind straight that this is how things are going to be. Make up your mind, prepare your mind and don't push your body. The third thing is your baby.
[00:02:03] Even when the baby is giving you a hard time it's really important to provide it with love and care. Baby can sense the emotions and energy that runs in the environment like all human beings do.
[00:02:18] So you have to be careful, give love and care for your newborn which will keep the baby healthy which in turn prevents you from clinic visits and keeps your peace. Fourth is the me time.
[00:02:36] Sleep while the baby sleep, run to the baby while it's crying is all said and done but ask for help.
[00:02:45] If you ask for some help around your husband or to your mom that can take care of the baby for some time so that you can relax a bit. This helps in their bonding with the baby and also reduces the dependency on you a little bit.
[00:03:05] Fifth, stop cleaning up your mess. I'm very, I'm really serious. If you're like me, you would be constantly worried about organizing around keeping everything in its place, keeping everything neat. It has to be done. Take help from your husband and or maid or nanny to do it.
[00:03:25] You don't have to jump right into organize everything in one go. It can be done after 30 days also. So when you have set your routine and when you're mentally clear, then you get on with it. But before that don't run to clean up your mess.
[00:03:46] It's okay if the surrounding is messy for a month. Your recovery is more important. Sixth is the strengthening exercises. Your doctor would have given you some core strengthening exercises which can be done after 30 days or so. Which can help your muscles to get back to its place.
[00:04:07] The muscles actually move to accommodate your uterus. So that core muscles have to get back to its place, the stomach side, the abdomen muscles. So whatever your doctor has recommended, do them. Because if we ignore our health now, that would actually show up later in our life.
[00:04:30] So it's really important to do light exercises with your doctor recommendations after 30 days and keep yourself very healthy. Drink a lot of water because breastfeeding drains out the water in the body. So you have to drink a lot of water. The point here is keeping your sanity.
[00:04:54] So be sane, keep your peace. That's what is going to help you.
