India summons Sri Lanka's envoy over Navy's shooting of 13 fishermen | Top News of 28, 2025

India summoned Sri Lanka's Acting High Commissioner to protest the firing by the Sri Lankan Navy on 13 Indian fishermen near Delft Island. The incident left two fishermen seriously injured and three others with minor injuries. The fishermen were from Tamil Nadu's Rameshwaram and Pudukottai.

[00:00:37] They were taken to Jaffna for judicial proceedings and their boat was seized. This incident adds to the growing number of detentions with 47 Tamil Nadu fishermen arrested in the past three days. India has urged humane treatment for the fishermen and rejected the use of force. Ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections on February 5, Chief Minister Dati Shih raised alarms about extremely toxic ammonia levels in the Yamuna River,

[00:01:05] which she claimed was six times above Norman. She warned that such water could not be treated or supplied to Delhi residents without passing serious health risks. Atishi has again returned to the Election Commission, requesting urgent intervention to prevent contaminated water from entering the city. The West Bengal government has granted approval for charges to be framed against Sandeep Ghosh, the former principal of Arjikar Medical College and Hospital.

[00:01:35] Ghosh was arrested by the CBI for financial irregularities at the institution. The CBI Council informed the Calcutta High Court that the state issued the no-objection certificate on January 27, and the court has directed that the charges be framed and the trial process begin within a week. Ghosh, along with others, is accused of manipulating tender processes, bypassing state regulations for private contractors,

Trump said that Modi would do what is right regarding illegal immigrants. In a phone call with Modi, Trump emphasised a fair trading relationship and deeper US-India cooperation. He also mentioned the possibility of tariffs on countries that harm the US.

[00:02:32] Vyanad MP Priyanka Gandhi visited the family of Radha, a tribal woman killed in a tiger attack in Panjara Koli. Priyanka also met the family of Ennam Vijayan, a former Congress office bearer who died by suicide in the district earlier. Vijayan's death followed a job scam linked to the Congress-controlled cooperative bank, allegedly orchestrated by Sultan Bhateri MLA IC Baila Krishnan.
