In this episode Ankur Warikoo shares his insights on the distinction between setting goals and establishing habits for personal and professional growth. He narrates a personal experience of waking up with a sore neck, which disrupted his workout routine, leading to a broader discussion on the pressure of goals and the resilience of habits. He argues that while goals can create unnecessary pressure and disappointment when not met daily, habits naturally integrate into our lives, making progress inevitable without the added stress of daily achievement. He advocates for focusing on building habits rather than setting rigid goals, using the example of writing a book as an illustration of how consistent habits lead to achievement over time.

[00:00:03] Hey everyone, this is Woice with Warikoo, with my name is Ankur Warikoo.
[00:00:08] In this English podcast series, I cover a lot of things.
[00:00:12] Career, relationships, personal finance, success, failure and frankly anything else that comes to mind.
[00:00:20] Every week Thursday, on your favorite podcast platform, a new episode, Woice with Warikoo.
[00:00:29] So, in the morning when I woke up, I was wearing a moustache in my neck.
[00:00:33] It was very stiff neck, I played tennis, it was very difficult too.
[00:00:37] Then I went to the gym and I was not working out.
[00:00:40] Because whenever you lift some weights, you get a headache, you have a headache.
[00:00:45] So today I couldn't work out.
[00:00:47] Maybe tomorrow too.
[00:00:49] Maybe it will be raining.
[00:00:50] Maybe it won't rain, it will rain.
[00:00:53] I didn't think that today I didn't achieve anything in my life.
[00:00:58] Because when you set a goal and a target, then every day becomes very important.
[00:01:03] You feel that if I don't do all those things that I had to do today, then I won't be able to reach my goal and target.
[00:01:09] It becomes a pressure.
[00:01:12] And every day, every week, every year, you have to bring that goal and target close to you.
[00:01:21] And this becomes a very difficult life.
[00:01:24] You feel that it is very pressure.
[00:01:27] And this is why you are used to it.
[00:01:30] Because when you are used to it, then every day becomes very important.
[00:01:34] You are used to it.
[00:01:35] And the meaning of being used to it is that if you don't achieve today, then tomorrow will come.
[00:01:38] If you don't achieve tomorrow, then you will get used to it.
[00:01:40] If you pull a spring, then it will come back.
[00:01:43] So it is my habit of working out.
[00:01:46] And this means that if I couldn't work out because of the anxiety,
[00:01:50] then tomorrow when I will be fine, then my habit will come back.
[00:01:54] And if I cannot work out tomorrow, then I will be able to do it.
[00:01:58] I don't have to reach anywhere.
[00:02:00] I don't have to go to any destination.
[00:02:02] I just have to work out.
[00:02:05] So when we set this goal and target that it is umritak, it is a bank balance,
[00:02:10] it is marriage at this age, it is children at this age,
[00:02:13] it is house at this age, it is bungalow at this age, car, shine, shocker.
[00:02:17] So every day, every month, every year, if we don't work for it,
[00:02:22] then we feel that our goal will never be successful.
[00:02:26] But if we put the habit of investing,
[00:02:30] of studying, of writing, of meeting people,
[00:02:34] of spending time with ourselves,
[00:02:36] then that habit will make us get many things.
[00:02:41] Which we cannot even imagine.
[00:02:43] I often say that if you want to write a book, there are two ways to write a book.
[00:02:47] One is to write a book and make it a target.
[00:02:50] Then you will have a book at the end of the year or not.
[00:02:53] And secondly, you have to put the habit of writing a book.
[00:02:57] And at the end of the year, you will have a book.
[00:03:02] This is the beauty of habit.
[00:03:06] So in life, don't set goals and targets, set habits.
[00:03:12] Because these habits will make you reach every goal, target in your life.
[00:03:19] Which you cannot even imagine. All the best.
