Our Body, Mind and Soul are connected. In this episode, let's dive into the complex relationship between stress and your health in 'Health Under Pressure'. The stress that our mind creates and our body feels and shows up.
[00:00:00] Hello beautiful souls, Welcome to the Extraordinary Show where we learn the art of living a peaceful,
[00:00:12] purposeful and prosperous life.
[00:00:15] I am Shalu Popli your host and today we are going to dive into something that we all know
[00:00:22] a little too well.
[00:00:24] Stress.
[00:00:25] Yep, that feeling that can sneak upon us, that can mess our mind and even affect our health.
[00:00:33] So why does stress matter?
[00:00:35] And how does it impact our health?
[00:00:37] Let's break it down.
[00:00:44] Let's first understand what happens to our body when we are stressful.
[00:00:49] Imagine you are walking in the woods,
[00:00:51] minding your own business and suddenly a wild animal appears there.
[00:00:56] Let's say a hyena appears there.
[00:00:58] Oh, I said hyena because that's the highlight of the month in my area people are spotting
[00:01:04] a hyena in my nearby mini jungle.
[00:01:07] Anyways, so you just imagine you are enjoying the nature and you are in your own thoughts
[00:01:13] and suddenly a hyena appears in front of you and this hyena is looking at you aggressively.
[00:01:19] What will happen?
[00:01:21] Your heart will start racing, your breath quickens and you might start shivering and shrinking too.
[00:01:28] Right?
[00:01:29] And you are ready to run or fight.
[00:01:31] That's when your body is super hero mode kicks in.
[00:01:34] It's called fight or flight response of our body.
[00:01:38] Stress triggers this response to a dangerous situation and it's like your body is getting geared
[00:01:45] up for an action.
[00:01:47] So we see our body state changes when we are in stress and this stress can be temporary or long
[00:01:54] term. There is a short term stress for example, meeting a tight deadline.
[00:02:00] It is intense but temporary right?
[00:02:03] Maybe waiting for the results that can also be a temporary stress.
[00:02:07] Then there is a long term stress.
[00:02:09] The ongoing stuff that feels like a never ending thing
[00:02:14] both temporary stress and long term stress can impact us but the long term one can take the
[00:02:21] toll over time. Now let's understand the impact of stress on our physical health.
[00:02:28] Stress is a kind of a little troublemaker that messes with our heart,
[00:02:33] with our stomach and even with our ability to fight off the sickness.
[00:02:38] Long term stress can lead to issues like high BP, digestive problems and affects our
[00:02:46] ability to fight the sickness too. So it's not just in your head, it is in your whole body.
[00:02:53] Stress doesn't stop there. It is the best body with mental health too.
[00:02:59] It can make your mind feel like foggy and shears spiral into sadness.
[00:03:04] It not only impacts our thinking capability but our decision making capability
[00:03:09] and it also reflects in our behavior right when we talk to others that stress reflects in
[00:03:15] our behavior. So think of it as clouds blocking the sunshine right? That's why it is very crucial
[00:03:24] to address both kind of stress whether it is long term or short term.
[00:03:29] So stress is a big deal but here is the good news for you. We can manage it yes take a deep breath
[00:03:41] seriously just do it now with me. Nice right? It feels good. Do you know regular exercise?
[00:03:51] Good time management and reaching out for support can make a huge difference.
[00:03:56] It's like giving yourself a little superhero cape to navigate life challenges.
[00:04:02] The awareness about stress is really important you know because anytime you are in stress
[00:04:08] you know the impact right and then you can take the necessary actions to manage this stress.
[00:04:13] Now talking about all this my sharing wouldn't be completed if I don't talk about the good stress.
[00:04:20] Yes stress can be good for us. Do you know a little stress is good for us? We perform better
[00:04:28] under stress when we feel a little pressure. For example following discipline scheduling your day
[00:04:35] and executing your tasks as per that schedule there is a little pressure on us that we need to
[00:04:41] complete the tasks as per the schedule. If the stress is not there we won't be taking many of
[00:04:47] the actions that we are supposed to do or we must take that is for sure. So this is a good stress
[00:04:53] but yes prolonged stress and intense stress is not good for us. With this I conclude this episode
[00:05:01] here thank you so much for hanging out with me on the extraordinary show if you found this episode
