[00:00:50] So let's dive into the champagne pool of New England oysters on ice and a colonial home on Massachusetts eastern board that has more rooms than you can count.

[00:01:00] I am talking about the Nicole Kidman headline The Perfect Couple.

[00:01:04] Bored out from Ellen Hildebrand's 2018 book of the same name.

[00:01:08] The windberries, Greer and Tag are old money wealthy and are getting their son Benji married to the girl of his dreams.

[00:01:14] Amelia Sacks, not of the same tax bracket and clearly uncomfortable in private jets.

[00:01:20] Of course the staff and Greer Winbury looked down the petite noses at the Sacks family who gift store bought fruit on arrival like the old aunties who visit at lunchtime.

[00:01:31] But they seek happiness for Benji.

[00:01:33] Until the twist narrated in a non-linear manner in the first episode itself, the murder on the beach of Amelia's best friend and bridesmaid Merritt Monaco.

[00:01:42] Of course the local Nantucket Island police well kept and donated to by the windberries investigate.

[00:01:48] Clue after clue points to different suspects with each family member and guest as mysterious as a murder suspect in an Agatha Christie novel.

[00:01:57] One by one, the characters unfold and the cops investigate with the story cutting back and forth.

[00:02:04] In a very knives out meets white lotus meets succession with clues characters and class conflict thrown in.

[00:02:10] Nicole Kidman as Greer is the only class act in the perfect couple.

[00:02:15] She has executive produced this show and is directed by Suzanne Beer who directed her in the undoing.

[00:02:21] The camera loves this stately gorgeous actress who is a natural at old money portrayals.

[00:02:27] She's the highlight of this series.

[00:02:29] However director beer has no real vision for the show unclear whether she wants it to be serious funny seductive or dramatic.

[00:02:37] The end result is almost sedative.

[00:02:39] Indian actor Ishan Khattar is a pleasant surprise as shooter Deval and does well.

[00:02:44] Megan Fahey previously seen in white lotus and the bull type is seen here and brings her brand of high class victim to the fore.

[00:02:53] She's bubbly and classic.

[00:02:54] Eve Houston as Amelia Sacks the confused bride to be is well confused.

[00:02:59] She's the weak link in the performance department and her character is too wishy washy.

[00:03:04] Her dialogue delivery doesn't help.

[00:03:05] Lee Shriver best known as a killer in scream 1996 and Omen also lately in X-Men Origins is here playing tag.

[00:03:14] He plays golf, drinks single malls and smoke cigars.

[00:03:18] Quite a graduation from ghost face to host space.

[00:03:21] He's okay here.

[00:03:22] There is Dakota Fanning playing the pregnant disdainful Abbey who cares a damn about anything but herself cruel to a fault.

[00:03:29] You also get to see the gorgeous Isabella Johnny who stunned in Diabolik and Nosferatu the vampire 1979.

[00:03:37] Donna Lynch Champlain as a lady cop rocks.

[00:03:40] There are other huge names too but the show is led by women.

[00:03:43] The island of Nantuket looks stunning with shots of lazy lagoons and seagulls flying over a deathly calm sea.

[00:03:51] The house itself is an ominous character.

[00:03:53] Apart from that some scenes are almost caricature-ish in attempting to look serious.

[00:03:57] The story is too flash cut like a jigsaw puzzle being solved by a 10-year-old and the class divide meets murder mystery is too done in recent shows.

[00:04:06] Still watch it for its languid pace, beautiful visuals and Nicole Kidman.

[00:04:11] I rate the perfect couple three stars.
