[00:00:39] Every dollar goes towards creating more and better content. Visit us at patreon.com slash khandanpodcast. Hi and welcome to a new episode of Khandaan Podcast. My name is Asim Burni, and I'm joined with my lovely co-host Amritha and Sujoy. Hey, Amritha, hi, Sujoy. Hey everybody. Hello. We're doing kind of a backlog catalog episode. We had a few movies and things that we spoke about, and then it's been a couple of weeks,
[00:01:07] so we didn't get a chance to kind of pose them at the right time. But there also no... Isn't it like a weird time, like for movies just generally? Like, you know, like I think me and Sujoy were talking about like what's coming out this weekend, and like there were moments where there's literally nothing, like nothing was interesting at all. It's weird, man. Like I don't know what is up with this year. And also like we've done the comparison a lot of times with Hollywood and Bollywood, but like I think Hollywood has been like really good.
[00:01:34] Like they've really delivered this year, really amazing movies. And I don't know, Hindi cinema has just been lackluster. Did you watch... Amrita, did you end up watching that Vishwanath and Sun movies you were going to... No, it's on my list. Like I basically... It's out on streaming now. Yes, it's on Netflix. So I'm going to watch it at some point. Just cause like I've seen like clips of Mamita and you know, who's it? Surya.
[00:02:15] Surya. I mean, that ever since Bethlehem Kurumba Unit came out, a lot of people have been calling her a superstar because she's just been in back to back, really successful movies in multiple South Indian languages. And of course, like the whole bunch of misogynists that came out in droves and were just like, well, if you had replaced her with somebody else, then it would...
[00:02:35] Those movies would still have been like a huge hit. And I would argue, no. I would argue that she brings a certain energy and a certain presence to those movies that is very much hers. You guys haven't watched Bethlehem Kurumba Unit, but so you don't know what I'm talking about. But it's just very... It's the kind of movie that we don't see anymore. You know, it's just a...
[00:02:58] It's a fun little rom-com where like nothing much happens, but like two characters, like all these little character studies happen. And then like these two characters come together. And there's this one scene in which, you know, they're like confessing to each other.
[00:03:15] And then Mamta like gives Niv and Polly a kiss on his cheek. And he gets like so starved because he's just like, oh my God. And it's like so wholesome and it is so cute. And we don't like see like things that are wholesome anymore, you know. So yeah, I will watch Vishwanathan Sons. I just haven't gotten around to it yet. Yeah, there's a few like friends that I've been talking about. What's it called? Bethlehem. Yeah, Bethlehem Kurumba Unit.
[00:03:45] Yeah. And it's been like for them, it seems to be a life changing experience watching that movie. Like they loved it so much. They multiple times. I'm like, wow, I really want to watch it. I hope it comes out quickly on Prime, you know. But yeah, I was confused because you'd mentioned that you wanted to go watch this movie. And I was like, wait, it's on Netflix already. So maybe I should try to watch it. But we had so many releases come out. I just didn't have time.
[00:04:11] I did watch Maa Inti Bangaram. I think I'm pronouncing it almost okay. Which you guys haven't seen this movie, right? I want to watch it. Like I missed it in the theaters because I was traveling. But I really want to watch it. Yeah. So it's starring Samantha and it's produced by Raj from Raj and DK, who is her husband too.
[00:04:35] And it's an interesting movie because funny enough, it was our friend Yamini that put me on this because she was like talking about that it had potential and it had some interesting premise and that Samantha was amazing in it. And I think I completely agree with Yamini because Samantha is great in it. And like, I don't know too much of her work.
[00:05:04] Like, I'm not like she's been an actress for a long time, I'm assuming. But I've only seen like a couple of things from her. I saw this. Like the first time I saw her was in Super Deluxe, basically. And that was, she was amazing in that. And then Family Man 2 and like all of Honey Bunny, you know. So all of the things I've seen, she's been amazing in it, you know. But I don't know if that's the kind of the full package of what her career has been.
[00:05:30] But I think definitely the things I've watched is some, like it's an actor that I want to watch more of because clearly I'm vibing with what she's making. So that was the reason why I wanted to watch this movie. And I think the premise is interesting because it's a, she's playing a very typical South Indian housewife. But she's a secret badass. And which is a premise that we've seen, you know, in so many movies when it's, you know, dealing with a man, you know.
[00:05:58] But we rarely see this when it's speaking about a woman. But, so that element is interesting. Then there's also some action sequences that are really fun. But I think for me, in this movie, for me, a lot of it was, it got just lost in transition, cultural transition for me. There's a lot of these things that I just don't understand why she wants to be part of this toxic family.
[00:06:28] Like they're very, like they're horrible. Like I hated everybody of this family. And they are very, you know, like, so like a joint family. Everybody's living together. Everybody's in everybody's business. And like these things just like trigger me, you know. Like these are not things that appeal to me. And then she absolutely wants to be. They justify it. They justify it because, you know, she's an orphan. She didn't have a family. She had nobody ever taking care of her. So it kind of gives an understanding of why she wants to be part of it.
[00:06:56] But it's just a very horrible family. But I think we're supposed to assume that this is what family is, which I disagree with. But I guess, yeah, it depends on, you know, what your understanding of it is. And the movie kind of ends in this home alone siege of the house sequence where all of the gangsters are attacking her in her house. And she's the one person defending it.
[00:07:27] But the problem is, like, when I do mention, like, you know, Family Man and Honey Bunny, like the action sequences were so elevated, right, in those movies. And here it's not the case, even though Raj is involved in the production of it. And when you see the making of, you see that he's there. He's on set when he's making it, when the movie is making made. But the skill set is just not there.
[00:07:53] Like, the level of understanding when you know that these, all of these gangsters, you know, led by Gulshan Devaya are going to attack you and you know how brutal they are. At least prepare your house as much as Kevin McAllister did in Home Alone, right? Like, do some prep work, right? Get some paint cans and, you know, heat up the doorknob. Do something. And these people do nothing.
[00:08:16] It's just like a pack, you know, like, I don't know, in South Indian houses, you have that court in the middle where everybody's, like, sitting in, you know, that. They just stand there and they're, like, waiting for all of these guys to attack. I think, what are you doing, you know? So that was kind of, like, I didn't, like, those moments should have been elevated. Because I've seen it elevated in movies like Rifle Club, which was amazing, right? Where everybody, and I think Blast also has kind of the same storyline a little bit, where the whole family is a badass and they all kind of pull together.
[00:08:46] And here, there just wasn't enough of it. The male characters are supremely weak to having no personality whatsoever. There might be a point that that's the point of the storytelling because that's what happens when it's a male-driven movie where all of the female characters are ciphers in the story and they're just playing templates. So it might be that they're flipping it around. But I don't think the movie is making it clear what it wants to do.
[00:09:14] It's kind of just, like, falling in the middle of it. But maybe it is one of those things, like, you know, toxic where, you know, you have to make, like, a very massy, appealing movie and then have to very subtly put some ideas in there in the background. And a lot of this, sometimes they're hidden so much in the background that they don't even come up to anybody watching the movie. I don't know if that's the case, if that's because, I don't know if this is a Tamil movie or a Telugu movie. I'm not 100% sure. Sorry? Telugu, right? Yeah.
[00:09:44] Which, I mean, having seen a lot of those movies, they're very much, like, you know, loud and massy and things like that. So maybe that's a balance that they're trying to strike. But for me, a lot got lost in translation. I was hoping for more of these bigger action sequences that I'd kind of maybe imagined in my mind that weren't there. And then the family dynamics were, you know, knowing the crap out of me. There is a lovely song in it, though.
[00:10:09] There's a wedding song that is really beautifully shot, which I've been kind of, like, humming a little bit. I don't know any of the songs or the lyrics or anything, but they also do a BTS of it or how they shot it. And, yeah, I thought that song was really, really lovely. So, I don't know. I think you should, you might enjoy Amrita a little bit, like, more than I did. No, I want to watch it. I want to watch it. Yeah. It's just that it's on Jio Hotstar in India.
[00:10:40] Isn't that free? Isn't that, like, they give you a year subscription with a packet of biscuits or something like that? Probably, yeah. I just need to buy the right packet of biscuits, you know, because I ain't paying money for that. There's just no way in hell. Yeah. I don't know about you guys, but here in the UK, you get, like, Apple for a month free for everything. Like, you do parking and you get, like, a month of Apple free. I was like, what's happening? Apple is now included. Like, I pay for the cloud and it's free. Apple TV is free with that. Yeah. You buy an iPad, you get it free.
[00:11:10] You get a phone, you get it free. I buy a cinema ticket, I get it for free. I buy a Hello Box food delivery box and it get it for free. Like, I don't know what's going on. It's like Jio, but in India, I guess. Sujoy, had you heard of this movie? No, I haven't. Interested? Samantha? Action? Very much so. Yep. You watched something else, though. You watched Mirzapur. Mirzapur. Yes. Are you guys familiar with the series? Have you guys watched any of the episodes? Yes.
[00:11:38] I have watched nothing. Nothing. I think I watched, like, something. I think the first, the pilot from, like, the first season or something, I think. And then I very quickly realized it wasn't for me because, like, it's that whole, like, like, when Gangs of Wasipur came out, like, that was revolutionary and it was fresh. And, like, I sat through all 700 hours of it and I was just like, ooh, very nice, very nice. Give him all the awards, you know?
[00:12:06] But then, like, everybody just started remaking Gangs of Wasipur. It's like, Gangs of Wasipur, Deluxe Edition, Gangs of Wasipur, now more Wasipuri. Like, I just, I don't give a shit. Like, so, I, it's just not my thing. That was the same reason for me and I also had, like, intense Pankaj Tripathi fatigue at that time. Yeah. It was so much of it. And then the thing is, like, a lot of those reels were getting viral about this show and none of them appealed to me.
[00:12:34] It was like, oh, the stepdad is sleeping with the bahu. And it's, like, a lot of, like, all of these weird animalistic sex going on. I was like, and the people that were praising, I was like, nothing of this show seems to be appealed. But because they've gone on for three seasons, four seasons and this movie came out, now I was kind of feeling FOMO. Like, maybe I should watch it. Maybe I missed it. Like, in hindsight, the quality of season one seems, like, really high compared to
[00:13:03] the seasons that followed. So, what they've done with the movie is, even though it's a cash grab, right, they've gone back to season one and they've made a sort of a spin-off that the events that happen in this movie are between season one, episode six and seven. And they have, like, widened the canvas in a way. Like, they've gone offshoot. They introduce new characters and then they bring in all the fan favorites here.
[00:13:28] But even for some people like you who haven't watched the show at all or just been introduced into this world, I would say it's still a good romp at the cinema because it's very masala. It's very mass. It's, like, got the bad villains.
[00:13:47] There's Ravi Kishan playing, like, this really Ishak Zadeh type of a villain who has his muse and he loves her to bits and he would do anything. But he's his own hero, right? That's the kind of villain that I love. And he really plays the heck out of it. And, like, a good masala movie, there is the setbacks and the underdog.
[00:14:13] And Ali Fazzle is one of the more popular characters in this world. And he really pays off in the climax. And, like, it's cash grab but both Messiah, that kind of a movie. And I really enjoy the heck out of it. They even introduce, like, one of the smaller characters in the show. They have a backstory for her. And it's such a tragic love story. They sort of explain it in this.
[00:14:42] I didn't see that coming. It was kind of unexpected. It was really fun. Yeah, like, if you do enjoy gangster drama, this is one of the better ones, I would say. Like, at least the movie. Vikrant Masi played Bablu in the show. But I didn't... I think he had, like, date problems or something. So, Jitu Bhaiya from all the TVF dramas, he is playing Vikrant Masi's character in this, Bablu.
[00:15:11] Which I don't think is a good substitution. I think the character just completely shifts into a different zone in this compared to season one of Mirzapur. So, that's one minor nitpick that I have with the movie version. But overall, I really enjoyed it. And it will be soon out on streaming. It made a lot of money. And it's a big hit. I saw somebody on Twitter.
[00:15:38] Like, this is, like, the kind of dumb fucks that are, like, on Twitter these days, right? Like, somebody on Twitter was just like, oh, Excel was formed in 2001. And it's taken them 25 years to come up with a hit. And literally, everybody was like, um, what? Like, in what universe is that true? But, yeah, it's just wild, the kind of things that people will say. This is why coming back to Twitter was a bad idea.
[00:16:07] Like, these are the things you picked up on, you know? Crazy. But, Sujoy, like, if I've not seen the show, should I watch the show? Should I watch the movie? Should I watch some episodes to get it? Or is the movie just, like... I don't think it's necessary to watch the show. Like, it's a big task for you to go back and watch the show, then to watch the movie. Like, yeah, it's not necessary. They do a good job of the exposition scene happening within the movie itself.
[00:16:36] Like, this new character comes in, which is Ravi Kishan, and he wants to know this world of Mirzapur. And some other character explains who is who and what is what and all the dynamics. It's perfectly fine. The one thing is, like, if people who have watched the show, then they know that the threats that these characters face are non-existent because they survive. And they go forward to season two and season three. So, nothing can actually happen to them.
[00:17:03] But in the movie, maybe for you, then it's kind of that. The tension is still there whether Bablu and Guddu Bhaia will survive all these threats and all of that. So, this is also the end of the Mirzapur storyline, right? Like, there's been, what, three seasons or something? Yeah, I have not followed it into season three because the quality quite dropped and I stopped watching it. But I think because of the success of this movie, they want to continue telling the story, I would say.
[00:17:33] Yeah. Interesting. Interesting. Yeah, no, I wasn't sure. Like, you're saying it's in episode six and seven of season one that this story takes place, right? Yeah. Okay. Interesting. Okay. I mean, it's interesting that they made it this way. Like, I don't know of a lot of other movies, you know, content that would have done it this way. So, it is interesting. Yeah. I don't know. I don't know if it's FOMO or it's just like being, you know, so much time has passed where, you know, those feelings that Amrita was talking about that everything was going to pass.
[00:18:03] There was so much hunger to pass. So, that has kind of gone away. Yeah. We have less of those gangster dramas. So, maybe I was like, oh, should I watch it? Did I kind of miss Breaking Bad the first few seasons and this is as good? And the thing you're talking about, Excel, you do kind of maybe give them a bit more, you know, credit because they are somebody that are there for high quality stuff. So, I don't know. I was kind of thinking about it. But, yeah, it's a tough time because there's so much content, you know.
[00:18:32] I watched this with a packed audience and probably that's a very good way to watch this as well because everybody's so hyped. The scenes that are built into this movie, like everybody's like hyping up the movie. They're clapping at the right moments. The jokes land. So, I think it's a much better experience as a – but I know you don't like people laughing at the movies. No, people should shut up and not enjoy themselves. You know me. We're living in the end of times. What are you laughing about?
[00:19:02] That's why – Ed Sheeran. We are all laughing at Ed Sheeran. I did watch Welcome to the Jungle by this. Oh, did you laugh? I know you guys don't want to hear about it. So, I'm going to keep this brief, to be honest. So, the movie dropped and it is terrible. This movie is so bad and they spent so much money on it and they brought everybody together
[00:19:32] and Ahmed Khan directed it. I think that's already – you should know where – it's funny because I was watching this Farah Khan show that she does, you know, which in lieu of making movies, she's just going to people's kitchens and things like that. Which I hate. I hate that show so much. Like, I love Farah Khan so much and I hate that she's doing this and I hate how successful it is. I hate it. You know? But she was interviewing Ahmed Khan in one of her episodes and, like, this guy is loaded, right?
[00:20:01] He has so much money. It's crazy, right? And I'm like, wow, and this is the kind of movie he's making. Like, you and me, Sujoy, we've talked about so many times how much we hate Ahmed Khan's movies, right? But this guy is loaded. Like, he makes – like, his movies make money. He's very successful. And he's able to pull together a project with so many actors in there, part of a franchise.
[00:20:24] And it's funny because this movie is speaking to the meta aspect of this movie itself because it has that idea of, you know, the producers where they want to make a movie with so much money that they spend that flops and then they can get back the money from insurance. So, they're supposedly making a bad movie, right? And it also has shades of, you know, Tropic Thunder for sure.
[00:20:50] And you would assume that, funny enough, also the story is by the late Neeraj Vora. They actually put it in there. Which almost feels like, you know, we want to take away the responsibility. We can't do anything about it. You know? This is really not that level of writing. We've seen Neeraj Vora's writing. This is not that. Let me give you an example of a few of the jokes that are in here. Sunil Shetty says, Yeera Anna ko Yeera samjai. What?
[00:21:20] That's a joke. Yeera Anna ko Yeera samjai. Yeera Anna. His name is Yeera Anna. Okay. Then there's a joke. Pankha chalu kar. The other guy says, it's a helicopter. Oh my God. Then there's two jokes where it's literally ripped off from Crocodile Dundee. That's how far they go. It's the, that's not a knife. This is a knife. Joke is in here with Arshad Varsi pulling it off.
[00:21:50] And then there's also the whole joke of Tropic Thunder with the bomb expert where they set up this thing with explosions. And then he, you know, I think it's Captain's Attack. And the camera. It might be Captain's Attack. I'm not 100% sure. Okay. Yeah. So those, that's the level of jokes in this story. Amrita just yawned. Yeah. But there are two jokes that are really, really funny. So first is Raveena Tandon. She's like in there for five minutes, but she lights up the screen.
[00:22:19] She's like, she's amazing because she's like, you know, pretty Patel of Bollywood, right? Like super right wing, but kind of hot, you know. Raveena Tandon. Yeah. I really liked her in this. And there's a moment where, because the movie does speak about the meta aspect of the movie, right? Can I just say that this is the first time I've ever heard Preeti Patel be described as super hot. Like, you know, you're not part of British UK culture.
[00:22:47] I need, this is a thing on UK Twitter. This is a thing. Oh my God. I think it was. I am so disturbed. Iz was a rapper, kind of a British rap guy that put a tweet up and it just went crazy viral. So it's like this joke in UK that she's hot, but she's toxic. It's kind of this thing. It was butt related. The size of her butt.
[00:23:15] Now it makes a lot more sense. Now it makes a lot more sense because I was just like, that? Okay. Anyway. Yeah. So it's a very British Asian joke, this one. But anyway. So they're talking about the meta aspects of it. So before the interval, they have a, so they're going towards the interval and suddenly Akshay Kumar comes in, talks to the audience, breaks the fourth wall. And he says, you know, we had this song and we couldn't fit it into the movie. So we're going to play it just now. Enjoy it. And the song is a real banger.
[00:23:45] Like it's a really good song. So I thought that was kind of cool. And then I don't know what it is with like, we see Akshay Kumar, we see him maybe like still as a comedic actor, but he's not been funny for a while. Right. In any of his movies, but he has been consistently good in one joke. And like one joke, like this is like Ashok fitness level. One of my favorite jokes in the last few years from Houseful 4 or 5. Amrita, you've not seen it. I need to send the clip of Ashok fitness, which really kills me every time.
[00:24:15] I think it's me and Shreemi Verma that keep talking about the Ashok fitness joke every few times on Instagram because I just find it so funny. So Ashok fitness was funny. But here there's a sequence where Kiran Kumar is a villager. Like he's a villager with Farida Jalal also. And Farida Jalal is talking, but nobody understands her what she's actually saying. But she's talking very. And then Kiran Kumar will say,
[00:24:45] And then he explains what she's saying, but in very pure Urdu, like very pure Urdu. And then Akshay Kumar wants to reply to him in Urdu, but he can't speak Urdu. So he's just like kind of like talking fake Urdu. And he does this a few times. And it is so funny, guys. And I can't find the clip. Otherwise, I would just send you the clip because I cannot have you sit through this movie for a 30 second joke.
[00:25:13] There are enough clips of Ashok fitness out there so that I can send to you. But there are not enough joke clips of Akshay Kumar speaking fake Urdu to Kiran Kumar. I wish clippers out there make a clip so I can send to Amrita and Sujoy because our friendship is such that I cannot recommend Welcome to the Jungle. But I can recommend this joke to you. So that's what I have to say about Welcome to the Jungle.
[00:25:41] Which is, I think, more than anyone else has ever spoken about Welcome to the Jungle. So well done to us. That was supposed to be brief. Yes, well done to us. Well done to us. I mean, I thought I was quite balanced. I didn't even like, you know, like I didn't talk about Disha Patani. I didn't talk about, you know, Jacqueline Fernandez. Like, you know, I was positive. Do they actually have roles or do they just show up to dance? No, they have no roles. I mean, Jacqueline has a few jokes.
[00:26:10] Disha Patani is like, has nothing to do. It's really terrible. Like, she's just there to dance. She has no jokes whatsoever. Funny also, Deler Mehendi is in this movie. And nobody tells Deler where the camera is. So he's always like his eyeline is completely in the wrong spots. It's really odd and like embarrassing, like cringy embarrassing. Is Mika also in it? No, no, no. It's just Deler. Also, like why? If you can't pick both, pick Mika, right? Why are you picking Deler Mehendi?
[00:26:39] It makes no sense. And you wouldn't worry about Mika's eyeline because he's wearing sunglasses all the time. Yeah. And Deler Mehendi is basically there to just say, like at the wrong angle, at the wrong spaces. It's really, it's really weird. It's really, really weird. I'd like to watch the making of this. That'd be hilarious. I don't know if it would be because the movie is not funny. Why would the making of be funny?
[00:27:08] No, I would put probably like laughter tracks just to make it funny in the making. And they have a lot of these TV actors also, like TV comedians that I don't find funny. I just want to know what Kala Jadu Ahmed Khan is doing at home in order to get hired to make these films. How is he failing upwards? Yeah. The thing is, there's an audience. And I was speaking to our friend who had a great time watching this movie. Like she was like, oh, in the theater, everybody was laughing and erupting with laughter.
[00:27:37] It was a good time. And she went with the family and it was like, cool. Like there's a subsection of people that we are not part of. Right. And we don't know. Say it again. Say it again. Say it again. Subsection. Subsection of people that we are not part of. And they vote for people that we don't understand. They make choices that we don't understand. And we are a minority. They're like, Priti Patel is hot. And so they're like. Yeah.
[00:28:08] Ahmed Khan is hot stuff. Yeah. Ahmed Khan is like, oh, what's the picture? Farah Khan is saying, you know, that was my Farah Khan expression. Cool. Yeah. Things are wild, people. We're living in wild times. Chalo. One more thing. We were sent some games by our Patreon audience. A few games were sent to us by Irfan, I think, if I'm not mistaken. But it's a very long game.
[00:28:33] So I think we're going to just do five quick questions on this and see where it's landing. Right. And then maybe we can do it for Patreon. The full thing. There's a draft, a Bollywood draft that we're doing, which looks really, really fun. But we're just running out of time. So we can't do all of it. Right. So let's start with these questions that have been sent to us, which I thought were quite fun. Shall I read them? Does anybody else want to read them? Yeah. You can read them. So Sujoy, Amrita, whoever wants to take this one first. Would you rather?
[00:29:03] Would you rather have Jaya Bachchan catch you filming her or Salman Khan offer to drive you home? I'd rather have Jaya Bachchan catch me filming her. Yeah. Because I don't want to lose my life. What do you mean? I think that's the thing. Jaya Bachchan would kill you. That would be an online crucifixion. Crucifixion? Yeah.
[00:29:33] Subsection. Yeah.
[00:30:03] Kamal Khan. I don't want to have to do all that shit. It's okay. I like my life. No, my thing was I'd rather be in the car with Salman, obviously. Like, because you are safe. It's the people on the street that are in danger. Like, you know, his driver is in danger. But the passengers seem to be okay, you know? Like, seem to be fine. So I would probably... You'd be a witness for your entire, you know, the rest of your life. I don't need it.
[00:30:33] I don't know. And also, like, I'm fine with that. Also, if Jaya B is yelling at me, then I'm sure that I deserve it. Like, I... I trust Jaya B. It's like Jaya Bachchan screaming as you're like, home wali feeling ari. Yeah. Okay. So, okay. Second question. Would you rather tell Shah Rukh Khan that Aamir Khan is the king of Bollywood
[00:30:59] or tell Aamir Khan that you didn't understand PK? I would like to tell Aamir Khan that I didn't understand PK. Like, that's not even true. But I just want to see his face. Like, I would like to do that. 100%. I don't believe that Aamir Khan is the king of Bollywood. So, I would be lying that to Shah Rukh Khan. So, by that logic, I would like to say...
[00:31:28] But also, I understood PK in a bit, maybe. But I would like to have that conversation with Aamir Khan saying, I didn't understand PK. And, like, let him totally, like, explain that to me. You're such trolls. What would you do, Asen? I would not like to explain to Aamir that I didn't understand PK. Because that explanation would be so long. It would be so long.
[00:31:57] Like, I would have aged, like, at least a couple of centuries. Like, you know, I would be like that lady in Titanic. Like, you know, like... Yeah, yeah. It's been 84 years. I would be, you know, I would be Amrita Singh in Surya Vanshi. I can't, guys. I can't. I don't know how you would pick that. Like, I can't do that. Although... And also, like... Guys, like, I think, like, we've spoken about this a few times. I think we've sanitized who Shah Rukh is.
[00:32:27] You know? I do not want to be on Shah Rukh's bad side. Like, it would... It's going to be quite scary, too. So, yeah. I don't know. I don't have time for Amir. And I'm scared of Shah Rukh. So, I don't know what to do in this situation. That's why I'm in the car with Salman. I think... I think Shah Rukh would be a good sport about it. Like, say, if you told him that Amir is the number one. He'd be like, huh, he is. So what? I'm the bad Shah.
[00:32:56] Maybe. Yeah, you're right. You're right. This is a boss. This is a boss. That is true. This is softer Shah Rukh. We're not talking about... Yeah, he'll call you beta and everything. Yeah. He's not one to say to him, Shah Rukh anymore. Okay. Next question. Would you rather sit through every Bollywood... Every bad Bollywood remake ever made... Or watch movies only starring Arjun Kapoor? For a year. For a year, by the way. For a year. Even the question taker is not this cruel. They just said for a year.
[00:33:27] I would watch Tewar. Which is a Bollywood remake. Which stars Arjun Kapoor for a year. With Arjun Kapoor. I don't mind watching Arjun Kapoor actually. Like it's fine. Like I don't... But he's not making anything right now. So maybe I don't get to watch any movies for a year. If I choose like, you know, watching... You know what he's doing probably? He's waiting for offers after the praise of Singham. The final chapter. Whatever that was. Like because he got a bit of buzz from that. Yeah. Danger Lanka.
[00:33:56] He's waiting for the Danger Lanka offers basically, I think. But he was... That's him. He was doing an interview with one of those... You know one of those Indian podcast guys that looked like a Nevla? You know, like... Like a what? You know? The one has a Nevla face. I don't know which one that is. And he was... That's not Birbysip. There's another one with a Nev... Sidhat Kannan. That's who you mean. That's the guy, right?
[00:34:26] Sidhat Kannan. This is how you know that we are not paid by anybody. Like we don't give a shit. We'll diss everyone. Yeah. And he was kind of like talking about like his career. Arjun Kapoor was talking about his career. And like, you know, that he has made good movies. You know? And Ishikzadeh. And Kian Ka. Two States. Orang Zabe. Something that we've praised a lot of times. And he was basically talking about Finding Fanny.
[00:34:52] That even if Finding Fanny flopped, it still did good numbers for that time. And I agree. Like I think as Khanda and we've generally been quite positive of Arjun Kapoor. So I would not mind watching, you know... Come on. Like are we really talking about Varun Dhawan's hero number one compared to Tushan? Like, sorry. Orang Zeb? Like no.
[00:35:21] Like Tevar even, you know? So even when you were watching, I'll watch Tevar. I was watching that interview with Arjun Kapoor. And I was like, wait, should I re-watch Tevar? Because there were some moments in there that I like. And I like Surakshi. So maybe I will end up watching Tevar on my own. So imagine that. Amrita, you're still looking for Neblah face? Yes. I have found... I have found it. I'm just trying to figure out how to send you the link. He's very successful. He's a very successful podcaster. Yes.
[00:35:50] I think this is it. I think this is the person. Where are you sending it on? In the chat. It's in the chat. There's a huge pop-up now. Is that the Neblah face? That you sent? What is this? Why can I... No, no. It's not this guy. It's not this guy. Yeah. Yeah. It's another one. Him I would call it with the toupee. Like this would be toupee man. Okay. Next one.
[00:36:20] Would... Raj Shaman. Guys, I don't know. I'll tell you. Figure it. We're just like going to go through the list. And we're just like... He looks like a mongoose. It's the one that looks like a mongoose. It's easy. They all look like a mongoose. Yeah. It's not the one that talks with people at the table and he's a millionaire too. Like he's a venture capitalist. Oh, no. That's Mikhail Khan. Also, he doesn't look like a mongoose. That's another mongoose. You know, like there's only one that looks like a mongoose.
[00:36:49] Looks like a mongoose. Okay. Next question. Would you rather be stuck in traffic with Geet from Jab We Met talking non-stop or have poo from K3G roast you for your entire life? Can I answer this one first? Because I am a married man. I have a wife and I have a lovely daughter. My life is being stuck with Geet who talks non-stop. Like this is my life. I love my life.
[00:37:18] So my answer is very clearly. I would love to be like, this is a thing like, I don't know. I'll ask Sujoy, but I love talkative women. Like who wants a choir to like, you know, like I love women talking. I want to hear their stories, you know, I don't know. But neither of these choices are non-talkative women. They are both talkative, but on a different scale. Like one is very, very judgmental and roasting you to death.
[00:37:46] Both are Katinas, you know, but I feel like Geet is the more wholesome kind who just loves life and everything around. She sees rainbows and sunshine everywhere. So I'd definitely pick Geet. Amrita, Geet or Poo? Geet. I feel like Geet and I would like bond. I like, Geet is the kind of woman that I like, you know, like I would hang out with her. Talkative women are fun.
[00:38:13] Like there's this inherent idea that, you know, like Geet is annoying because she talks a lot. I don't think so. I think she's fun. Like otherwise life would be boring, man. Whatever you want to do. Would, last question. Okay. Yeah. Last question. This is an odd one. I don't know what to make of this one. Would you rather be a background dancer behind Hrithik Roshan or stand next to him while someone asks you both to show your physique? Who is this? It's nobody. Yeah.
[00:38:42] It's Jackie Shroff from Khalnai Kher. Tu Bawdi Dekha. It's like, bwad charbi chad gai hai tu bawdi dekha. That's. Yeah. I think if it is Jagu Dada, then definitely he can ask both Hrithik Roshan and me. Anyone's paying any attention to you while Hrithik is, you know, next to you, whether he's like standing there or he's dancing. So it doesn't really make any difference, you know, what you choose. But I guess I would choose dancing behind him while he's dancing because, you know, nobody's paying attention.
[00:39:12] Also, we have to talk about which Hrithik Roshan, right? Are we talking about off-season Hrithik that you see in Miami? Or are you talking about, you know, what was his paraplegic Javier Bardem movie? Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Are we talking about Hrithik Roshan? Because I'm fine with like taking off a shirt with him, you know, that's okay with that. But I know the song that I want to dance with Hrithik Roshan. It's magic. It's magic from...
[00:39:41] You want to be Jadu in the background. Yeah. Yeah. That's the problem with me is though that like if I'm dancing, people will be watching because it's going to be such a shit show. Like it's like... I know how people cut reels now. Like Hrithik will be forgotten. Like what's the guy doing behind you? Like that kind of thing. So, yeah, it would be a shit show. Yeah. Yeah, but I would still... You just want to...
[00:40:11] No, I don't want to show anything. I want to dance behind Hrithik Roshan. I was going to say, I'm going to dance. I'll take the... You know, I'll take the like... Maitri says, 14-year-olds will make fun of you anyway. It doesn't matter. And it hurts. But you'll just have to take it. And that is the reality we live in. I'm going to do that. Wow. Yeah. Yeah. Very mature. That's the one I'm doing here. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Fun questions. There's a ton of them more. Like there's like 40 questions or something like that. We got scared. Like I sent it to Sujoy and Amrita.
[00:40:40] Sujoy was like, I didn't do it. So let's... If you want us to do more, we can do that. Let us know. Or we'll just shift it to Patreon because Patreon loves us and they love everything that we do. And I thought this was quite fun. There's also a Bollywood draft that was sent over. Which the problem is we're not American. So I don't even know how our draft really works. Like, you know, like when our friend Manish was doing it back in the day when he had the podcast,
[00:41:08] I had trouble understanding the rules and I went very violently in that game and I scared everybody. And I think I shut down the show basically. Like, I don't know. Manish didn't want to do it anymore, unfortunately. Oh my God. I just remember that poor child that came with us and he was like... I think we were going like top five Amitabh Bachchan performances or something. Like, you know, top 13 and he came with Lakshya as like one of his top 13 Amitabh Bachchan performances.
[00:41:37] And we went so hard at that poor child. Like, I am so sorry to that kid. But also that was a really bad pick. Like, I'm sorry. I couldn't give you a pass with like, you know, with all the will in the world. I couldn't do that. It's a lot of times it's funny, right? Because the age gap is such when sometimes you're talking to... I love old school stuff. Like, you know, the first Kanye West album. And you're like, what the hell are we talking about here?
[00:42:04] Also, I think he had never heard of us and he didn't know who we were. And then it was just like the three of us. It was just ganged up against him. But I told Manish it's a bad idea to have all three of us there. Like, it's a bad idea. He's got to split us up. Like, you know, it's just too much. You know, like in class, like put these people in different benches. Because if they're together, it's going to be madness. So, yeah. But it was a good show.
[00:42:31] Like, generally, a lot of like podcasts are done. Like, even you only have the option of Nevala Brothers talking to celebrities now. Or like, there's us. But there's not a lot of other... Ashimi has a show. But the thing is... And so Charita has her long view, right? Yeah. With Uday and Rahul. We're going to call Uday and Rahul back. Like, it's been a while. Also, Partha.
[00:43:00] He was texting us that he wants to come back on. So, we need to do this. And I think, yeah, we need to get a few more guests on. So, drop us a line maybe. I think a few people suggested some names. So, maybe, you know, we've aged out of some new people that are talking about movie interesting and things like that. I will be probably talking about the new Mahira Khan drama, Mithi Debawe, that's coming out on Wednesday, Thursday. Which I'm really excited about.
[00:43:26] Amrita doesn't know why I'm excited because she doesn't have access to anything about that drama. But it looks so cool. So, that could be fun. When is the Fawad, the Hani Amr Netflix show coming out? Nobody knows. It's become like a whole thing. It's been short-canned for years now. And it's just not coming out.
[00:43:49] To the point where, like, at the moment, like, there's a new Pakistani streaming platform called ARY Plus coming out. Because they went to Netflix with their dramas. And Netflix didn't want them, like, they didn't give them a good deal. And the CEO was basically saying, you know, like, if our content has not been treated fairly by Netflix, why would we put our content there? Which I completely agree with.
[00:44:15] And his plan is actually to put all Pakistani content on that platform and even take away his name. Like, not even branded as ARY. Just to be able to give access to people to watch this thing. Which I think is an amazing idea. Because clearly, even if the show is made, it has all of these actors in there. Fawad Khan, Mahira, there's everybody in there. It's just not getting a release. Which is just, like, it's infuriating.
[00:44:41] It is infuriating that, you know, it's not even, it's not fair at all, you know. Like, yeah, it pisses me off. So, no date, no nothing. People have... Because it was supposed to come out in September of this year. Right? Because I remember Haru Nasheed, our friend, did an interview with Hania a year ago. And she wasn't even allowed to say a date. But, like, clearly, it's been done for years. So, like, I don't know. Like, what are they even going to look like?
[00:45:08] Like, if this show has been shot at, like, seven years ago. And, like, these people don't even look the same anymore, you know. It's like... Yeah. Really, it's infuriating. So, I do... I am appreciative. There's, like, a lot of good Pakistani shows. I've been watching Aap Ki Izzat a little bit. Which has been really cool. The reels have been going viral for that. And I think Dere Nejaat has also some interesting aspects in it. Yeah.
[00:45:35] And then this one, Mitti De Bave, which looks really, really interesting, too. So, I'm excited to... I think we're going to watch the first two episodes and talk about that. So, I'm going to find somebody who knows Pakistani dramas and talk about that. So, yeah. New creators, let us know at youpodcasting.gmail.com who we should get on. Because, yeah, we want to keep talking about these things. So, Joy, where can people find you online? You can find me on Instagram at 93K.
[00:46:02] But you can also follow all our socials on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube at Khandan Podcast. You can DM us with your ideas and all, you know, everything, every feedback that you have on our episodes there. Amrita? You can find me on Twitter at AmritaIQ. But I'd much rather that you found me on Patreon at patreon.com slash khandanpodcast, which is where we hang out. And I do these five-minute catch-ups, which are usually a little bit longer.
[00:46:32] But, you know, it's just basically a deep dive into whatever people are talking about. Not just for Bollywood, but for, like, movies and TV shows in general. And also, like, Asim does these, like, catch-ups, like, round-ups of, like, all the different things that he watches. Because this man just watches more things than any other person I should ever watch.
[00:47:01] And he's always got, like, really great recommendations. I know there's, like, a lot of people who found new things to watch by just listening to Asim talk about the stuff that he's been watching, you know. And it's always, like, there's, like, anime. There's, like, European stuff. There's, you know, Hong Kong stuff. There's, like, all kinds of things. So you should... I feel, like, the dollar... Because, like, you know, our memberships start at, like, a dollar.
[00:47:27] And honestly, like, that is probably the best-spent dollar that you can have just to have, like, Asim's recommendations. So you should check that out. Yeah, I need to record one. I just didn't have the mental space over the summer to do them. But September has just done. So I'm going to do another one of those videos. Because I do think Sujoy has beaten me in terms of, in these last few months of just the amount of content he's watched. Which I always, like, check on his Letterboxd.
[00:47:56] Well, what is the use of Sujoy watching all of these things? He'll never talk about it on our Patreon. But, yeah, follow Sujoy on Letterboxd if you... Anytime... Anytime you're looking for some Korean recommendations, you know, go to Sujoy. So, yeah. But, yeah. Drop us an email at kububadcastinggmail.com. And we'll be back with a new episode soon. Thank you for listening.
