Welcome to Khandaan: A Bollywood Podcast where we’re enjoying a rare week of happy movies. First, Sujoy and Amrita watched MADGAON EXPRESS, a slacker comedy that delivers more than its trailer promised from debutant filmmaker Kunal Kemmu. Starring Avinash Tiwary, Pratik Gandhi, Dhivyendu, and Nora Fatehi along with a strong supporting cast, this is a very confident debut for Kemmu as a director. Next we all fell in love once again with Kareena Kapoor (and Tabu and Kriti Sanon) in CREW. From the stable of ace feminist producer Rhea Kapoor, this Rajesh Krishnan directorial was funny, sexy, and promises to be a giant hit. Co-starring Diljit Dosanjh, Kapil Sharma, Khulbhushan Kharbanda and others, this was the perfect weekend watch. [00:00:00] Hi, this is Asim. This is Sujoy. This is Amrita. And you're listening to Khandaan, a Bollywood

[00:00:20] Podcast about the three main hands of the Hindi film industry. Amr, Salman and Shahra.

[00:00:26] Hi, you're listening to Khandaan, a Bollywood Podcast regular feed. Thank you so much for your support over the years.

[00:00:33] We now have a Patreon channel with bonus content and exclusive merch for those of you who would like to support us.

[00:00:39] Every dollar goes towards creating more and better content. Visitors at patreon.com slash Khandaan Podcast.

[00:00:49] Welcome to a new episode of Khandaan Podcast. My name is Asim Bernie and I'm joined with my lovely co-host Amrita and Sujoy.

[00:00:57] Hello, everybody. Hello. So we did a special episode yesterday, me and Amrita, that's going to release on Patreon.

[00:01:07] Why was that Sujoy? Please tell the audience.

[00:01:11] I was so glad to talk.

[00:01:15] I was bed asleep.

[00:01:17] Literally half an hour before we started recording, Sujoy was like, I'll see you guys in half an hour.

[00:01:22] Okay? And then half an hour came and then we were just like, what happened to Sujoy?

[00:01:27] Asim and I are calling him, we're just like, I hope he's alright.

[00:01:32] And then we also know Sujoy. So we were like, he's probably asleep.

[00:01:35] And yes, so everything worked out well.

[00:01:39] But we have to say Sujoy is in India, right? So he's like, he's in the chow of his ma.

[00:01:46] So that sleep is much deeper and better than any sleep there is.

[00:01:51] I've always had sleeping problem back in London and here I'm just only sleeping and eating.

[00:02:00] And my eyes like, why are you so mota?

[00:02:04] You're giving me so much chowl to eat and you're complaining as well.

[00:02:09] Why are you so much mota?

[00:02:11] Or cow or cow.

[00:02:14] That is love. Love is cow, you know?

[00:02:17] We're talking about some of the new releases that came out this week.

[00:02:22] We've got Mudgaon Express and the crew.

[00:02:26] You guys so much go on right both of you?

[00:02:28] Yes, yes I just tell me about it.

[00:02:30] Goa is going to go on the same age as we are going to the garab.

[00:02:35] Or we'll go to college and then we'll go to the bathroom.

[00:02:37] Goa! And he's going to be alone.

[00:02:39] What a year we've been planning for.

[00:02:42] But we're planning for a year but we can't even get a cow.

[00:02:45] We're all gone, my father's stress. We're not kids anymore.

[00:02:48] Goa, love we come!

[00:02:57] So I think this is the directorial debut of Kunal Kymu,

[00:03:04] who we've seen in many movies before this.

[00:03:07] And he's also the host of Sohali Khan.

[00:03:11] I think this is an Excel production and it's like a slacker comedy in the vein of

[00:03:18] the Goldmall series or Goa, Goa, Goa or something in between those two.

[00:03:25] But this is the directorial debut.

[00:03:28] It stars Pratik Gandhi who we've seen in Scam.

[00:03:32] It's got the Vyendo from like Pihar Kapantshnama and all those other movies.

[00:03:40] He was also in the Cheshmevat Durima, I believe.

[00:03:43] And there's Abhinash Tiwari as well in this.

[00:03:47] And some Kamios, which I did not expect, including Nora Fatehi and Ramos D'Souza as Dr. Danny,

[00:03:58] which is really funny.

[00:04:01] And then it's just like a comedy set in Goa of three friends who go on this trip

[00:04:11] from Bombay to Goa after many, many years of planning.

[00:04:15] And then one bad decision leads to another and things spiral out of control.

[00:04:21] There's drugs involved, there's gangsters, there's funny gang leaders

[00:04:27] and all that comedy that you can think of that lies between a Goa, Goa, Goa and Goa.

[00:04:36] And that happens here.

[00:04:39] And I think Kunal, you can tell this is sort of a first time director's work

[00:04:44] because he is so ambitious and he wants to put in everything.

[00:04:48] A lot of it does land.

[00:04:50] I think this would be more enjoyable if you watch it with friends who also enjoy this kind of humor

[00:04:59] along with an audience who are actually enjoying and laughing at the jokes.

[00:05:04] And I think it's a great idea to do that because it was a late night screening in Calcutta

[00:05:07] and it was like 20 odd people in the screening.

[00:05:10] So I mostly enjoyed it but I don't know if I enjoyed it as much as I could have.

[00:05:16] Yeah, I feel that the same way.

[00:05:20] I feel like I was like a comedy is really my thing to start off with.

[00:05:25] But as far as it goes, I had a good time and I can see that if this is your sense of humor

[00:05:30] then you would really like it.

[00:05:33] If you are the kind of person who enjoys things like Goa, Goa, Goa and Goa and stuff like that

[00:05:37] then I think this would be absolutely up your alley.

[00:05:43] And it does have a few twists and turns that I really enjoyed.

[00:05:51] And it's also trying to say something about this generation which I appreciate it.

[00:05:56] There's this theory out there that says your debut film as a director is your most personal one.

[00:06:03] And I feel like Kunal Kimo is really writing to his generation with this film.

[00:06:12] And it's very competently made.

[00:06:16] Like it's very self-assured, he knows what he's doing.

[00:06:21] And everything, there's nothing in it that makes me feel like this part was lax or they didn't...

[00:06:30] This character didn't get the arc that was promised at the beginning of the film.

[00:06:40] Everybody got it, even Nora Fatehji gets one of the funniest story arcs in the film.

[00:06:51] And also Rimo Dezusa shows up and honestly Rimo should...

[00:06:57] Yeah, Rimo Dezusa.

[00:07:00] And he should really stick to this rather than directing.

[00:07:04] Yeah, I mean he shows up looking like the predator, like alien versus predator.

[00:07:10] He looks like the predator in that.

[00:07:12] That's exactly what I thought.

[00:07:15] The cat is contact lenses and the braids.

[00:07:19] And I don't know it works for me.

[00:07:22] I was thinking I was like, you know what?

[00:07:24] I enjoyed it.

[00:07:25] This is wild and it is stupid and I didn't see it coming but it was really good.

[00:07:31] So Kunal is really interesting to me.

[00:07:34] Like in the beginning of the film, he thanks Rohit Shetty, Salman Khan and one more person that I can't remember now.

[00:07:45] For a while.

[00:07:46] No, I don't think so like somebody else.

[00:07:50] But it was really interesting to me that he thanked Salman and he thanked Rohit Shetty because I can see...

[00:08:00] I can see that influence in this film.

[00:08:03] You know, like the humor, the actors that he chose, the way that he's built the story and this world.

[00:08:13] This is entire subplot about this female dawn called Kunchenkowri which was hilarious.

[00:08:21] And it's the same moment from like Lapitha ladies who plays Kunchenkowri.

[00:08:26] And it's a very like Rohit Shetty sort of thing but much better.

[00:08:33] Like this is like an actual story that's being told.

[00:08:36] It's not like you know a bunch of explosions strung together with a little bit of skit writing.

[00:08:43] I thought it was like really well made.

[00:08:46] Like it was like a really well made film and I think it's a modest success.

[00:08:52] And I wish that it was actually even better.

[00:08:54] There's also like little things that he does that just shows how much he's thought about this,

[00:09:02] like how much thought went into the filming of this film.

[00:09:05] Like I was really struck by the fact that Supriti Gandhi's character has a girlfriend and Priti Gandhi is playing like this Gujarati.

[00:09:14] Like this very conservative Gujarati who falls in love with a Muslim woman.

[00:09:19] And not just a Muslim woman but a Muslim woman who goes down like wearing a burqa.

[00:09:25] And we never see her face you know like the portions in the film where like you know like she takes off her headwear

[00:09:36] but the camera never shows you her face.

[00:09:39] Yeah.

[00:09:40] And that was like you know it is just a tiny little detail that just sort of elevates the storytelling for me

[00:09:47] because it shows that he was like actually thinking about like this character and how the camera is like a part of this story

[00:09:55] and you can like actually see it.

[00:09:57] And then there's like this twist in the end that I should have seen coming you know where you find out who Avina Shrivari's soulmate is.

[00:10:10] And it was hilarious I'm not going to spoil that part because like it honestly is one of the funniest things that I saw on screen.

[00:10:20] Like even though like you know like I said like I'm not like a slacker comedy person but I saw that particular thing and I was just like of course of course.

[00:10:29] Like I should have seen that coming from a mile away.

[00:10:33] And yeah it's just great and I thought it was really well made film.

[00:10:38] I felt like there are small small you know writing gems in this like the dialogue is so snappy that I absolutely love the heck out of it especially like Divyendu and Pratigandhi get a lot of the funny lines.

[00:10:55] And like there is a portion where they're introduced to this gangster guy who is the ex lover of content comrie his name is Mendosa by Mendosa by.

[00:11:07] And they all three of them just keep calling him the wrong name he calls one of them calls him Mandolin by.

[00:11:16] Just cracktrap and every time somebody calls him the wrong name he gets more and more furious and it's like it's because he's supposed to be the threatening guy or the threat in that situation and he gets ridiculed as hilarious.

[00:11:32] There is this wall in content comrie is there a wife is written in India now here.

[00:11:39] So here's the whole thing and it's literally all the photos of like all the men in there that have done like wrong by the women in her guy.

[00:11:50] It's like it's one of those like tiny things you know like you just see the detail that went into like making this world and you appreciate it.

[00:12:01] It plus name on the kitchen comrie to like amazing backstory of why her name is comrie.

[00:12:11] Oh yeah it's like a nod to the godfather and it just like made me laugh so hard with that happened.

[00:12:22] Also like the last like I'm not going to reveal much but there is a reveal in the climax scene how the V&Dos character I think his name is Doto and he's like.

[00:12:38] I don't know if you know that the police are at least points out something and it's hilarious.

[00:12:48] You have to watch the movie to find out why that is hilarious.

[00:12:52] My most important question you talked about a little bit how does Nora Fatehino?

[00:12:58] She's really good.

[00:13:00] Surprisingly good like that she also gets a dream sequence song which plays twice from two different perspectives it's freaking amazing.

[00:13:10] That was really really good especially because like the V&Dos character Doto like sees her first and then he has this entire like you know dreams.

[00:13:26] I think the song is called not funny.

[00:13:29] Not funny and you cut to like you know Nora like looking at him as like he's just standing there saying not funny not funny.

[00:13:40] And then he immediately goes are you a prostitute?

[00:13:45] And she's like what is wrong with you?

[00:13:50] In the context of that let's see but especially if you've been to a place like Goa.

[00:13:56] Not even Goa but a place like Goa you absolutely get who Doto is and who Nora is and why that entire like this is clearly written by somebody who is familiar with that miller.

[00:14:12] Who's been there and who's been in that little ecosystem and they understand how that thing works.

[00:14:19] But then like when you have a dream sequence the second time.

[00:14:24] I mean I just worry I enjoy him so much he's such a good actor.

[00:14:32] He's never missed honestly like literally he's never missed like I've not seen him in anything where I've seen him like you know and he's played gangsters in khaki.

[00:14:41] He's played a lover like a insane lover boy in like you know Le La Maginou.

[00:14:47] He's been like kind of just like a cool regular dude in the two of you know everything he's done.

[00:14:56] He's never missed you know like it's crazy.

[00:15:00] And he's like perfectly cast like you know like he plays this guy was like the slickest of them all of these three which is not saying much.

[00:15:10] And by the end of it you see that also you know there's a cross-dressing scene that is hilarious and then Priti Gandhi like steals the show.

[00:15:22] Like he is so funny in this. There's a scene where like he his figure gets chopped off literally and like I was crying laughing with that particular scene.

[00:15:45] I mean I don't know if you need to particularly go out to the theater to watch it which I think is what's basically hurting its bottom line at the box office.

[00:15:59] But it is like Sujoy said like it is something that would reward a communal watch like if you and like all your friends went out to watch it together I think you'd have a good time.

[00:16:11] But is it going to be streaming somewhere or did the logo pop up like streaming partner or something like that?

[00:16:17] Yes.

[00:16:20] It's interesting that like in the same week like these two mid-budget movies have come out you know like both Madgao and Kru and both have been reasonably successful right.

[00:16:35] And it kind of seems to go against the trend of this idea that we have that you know movies now to now need to be around like a concept and high concept and a big star and a big budget and everything else people only watch it streaming.

[00:16:50] And this seems both of the success of both of these seems to be you know arguing kind of the opposite of it.

[00:16:58] I mean yeah but like all of these movies whether it's La Patal ladies or this one or the crew what I've noticed is that it again like Sujoy said these are all like movies meant to be seen in groups of people.

[00:17:16] Like this is not the kind of thing that you and your wife go and like watch you know like you could but it's an elevated experience if you watch it with an audience that is truly engaged with this kind of cinema.

[00:17:30] With La Patal ladies the people that I watched it were clearly from that part of India and they were really connecting with the characters and the language that the characters were using the family equations

[00:17:45] that they were seeing on screen like they were having a really great time.

[00:17:50] And for my going stress it was all like young people who clearly had also had their little journey with like go or whatever and even if they didn't particularly you know I'm not I'm going to guess that they did not get caught up in drugs and go but they could understand that you know the way that the stories built up.

[00:18:14] And also is the weird thing about these movies is that the second halves are all better than the first half of all these movies it's just.

[00:18:24] It's kind of weird but yeah I was kind of getting worried because like a lot of people were praising this movie Maga Express and I don't trust their opinion especially not on comedy.

[00:18:37] So but I'm you guys seem to be I don't know if you guys enjoy the movie or enjoy talking about the movie more but it seems to be like you something that I should check out then.

[00:18:48] Yeah I think like if any comes out and streaming you should definitely check it out.

[00:18:52] Okay yeah because it's impossible to find like a screening in London for this movie it seems to be a very small release I also told you told me that there was some screenings before you left but I didn't see them so.

[00:19:06] Yeah this one completely flew under the radar for me.

[00:19:09] The other movie didn't have a screening though the crew.

[00:19:13] Sonah, where is Sonah?

[00:19:16] Sonah Sonah Sonah Sonah.

[00:19:20] We would like to welcome everyone on board.

[00:19:23] Namaste and I'm Vijay Bhaj.

[00:19:24] Chairman Kuhinu Railway.

[00:19:27] Our Salya is yours.

[00:19:29] We will be able to clear everything with the bonus of our next week.

[00:19:32] You are going to see the bonus of the movie in the bonus.

[00:19:36] And just crew.

[00:19:39] Is it?

[00:19:40] It's a crew.

[00:19:41] Yeah.

[00:19:42] Just in Timber Lake in social network says just crew.

[00:19:47] Yeah.

[00:19:50] As a woman Amirita speaking for all women.

[00:19:53] All women.

[00:19:55] How empowered did you feel watching crew?

[00:19:58] It's a giant leap forward for woman kind.

[00:20:07] feminism one.

[00:20:08] All problems are solved now.

[00:20:11] Yes.

[00:20:12] Listen, this is a movie that is basically headlined by Karina then taboo and then critty sonah.

[00:20:24] I know the critty stands are going to be mad at me when I say that but it's true.

[00:20:29] People are really excited as a sort of watching Karina and taboo on screen.

[00:20:37] That scene where taboo says foundation has magic made and then she's like,

[00:20:43] foundation.

[00:20:46] Everybody was talking about that online.

[00:20:49] It was one of those things.

[00:20:51] And they did like very little publicity for this film too.

[00:20:57] Like there weren't that many interviews.

[00:21:00] I think Karina's learned over the past few years that it's no longer possible for her to give even the most vanilla interviews without things being twisted around and people hating on her etc.

[00:21:16] It's the same thing with every star but especially for stars who are interesting like Karina and Shahrook and even Armer for that matter.

[00:21:25] And so everybody's just sort of like dialed back and taboo of course doesn't do publicity anyway.

[00:21:32] And critty does but she sort of pulled back on this one.

[00:21:37] And honestly it just really helped the movie in my opinion because I went to it not knowing much at all about this film.

[00:21:46] And the first half was like okay but it was just like nostalgia and I was just happy to see these women on screen.

[00:21:56] But the second half really worked for me and I thought it was a fun movie.

[00:22:02] And if I had known more about this film then maybe I wouldn't have liked it as much.

[00:22:08] Prabha Yusuf, I enjoyed the heck out of this.

[00:22:13] Like every time taboo said anything I was ready to clap at her.

[00:22:20] This was that movie where taboo gets the...

[00:22:24] I don't know the Anil Kapoor sort of vibe from back in the day like the Jhaka's dialogue wasy, taboo gets that.

[00:22:33] And every time she just yells at somebody to like there is a scene where she tells somebody to sit down.

[00:22:41] Like the guy does not listen.

[00:22:46] She's like Patna Chuki.

[00:22:49] So I just think this is some sort of kink for you seeing taboo swear.

[00:22:54] I think it's some sort of taboo-skinned idiot.

[00:22:57] Like old people? Yes.

[00:22:59] You have like this dominatrix kind of situation going on with taboo because I remember you also liked it in that other movie you were watching with her.

[00:23:09] Where she was a cough, which was a...

[00:23:12] Maybe maybe maybe.

[00:23:18] I would go that far but I'm not revealing anything today.

[00:23:22] No.

[00:23:23] I see a pretty food there.

[00:23:25] Today is the day to reveal all this and just claim you know that it was a proof.

[00:23:31] But yeah, I thoroughly enjoyed this man like everybody including taboo, kareena and kriti did so much for this.

[00:23:41] And like Timone Jahn Dal, the movie man.

[00:23:45] Nobody was slacking off.

[00:23:47] And the supporting characters was a great I thoroughly enjoyed.

[00:23:51] Just as BJ Wally.

[00:23:58] And like Diljeet and kriti, yeah they have chemistry.

[00:24:02] I really enjoyed them together as well on screen.

[00:24:06] Yeah, I mean at the center of it is just like a heist movie right.

[00:24:13] And I think they pulled it off.

[00:24:15] I was thoroughly invested of how things were going to plan out and kareena's plan Bs and plan Cs you know it was great.

[00:24:23] And it was like a heist movie in the sense of like a proper oceans 11 kind of heist movie right?

[00:24:30] Like because I'm thinking like what other Bollywood movies have done like a proper heist.

[00:24:35] And I really couldn't think of many like happy new year but that was just so ridiculous.

[00:24:40] But Bunti Bably.

[00:24:41] Yeah, Bunti Bably.

[00:24:43] It's been a while right?

[00:24:44] Yeah.

[00:24:45] So it's not a genre that you see a lot in Bollywood.

[00:24:50] So there's a lot of freshness in this movie and like a template that we kind of already know right?

[00:24:55] It's it is a very like well produced movie.

[00:24:59] It's you know, it's they put a great cast together.

[00:25:04] They had like a good supporting cast with it.

[00:25:06] They have amazing locations.

[00:25:08] It's shot pretty.

[00:25:09] The songs are good although they're pretty much all remixes.

[00:25:13] They're really good remixes.

[00:25:15] And oh my god I have to mention like the choice to bring Eela Roons voice.

[00:25:21] Yeah, in Cholique Pichet as well as the word for Dhaagra in that song where they're just marching out in the club.

[00:25:27] And also to use Cholique Pichet this instrumental version in the climax where like the stakes are high and you know it's a high-paced sequence you know

[00:25:36] and anything could go wrong but also we are rooting for it to go right?

[00:25:41] And to play that constant music with the dual and fashion it was so good.

[00:25:46] So good.

[00:25:47] What a choice.

[00:25:48] Especially and I think we know this about Riyaka Poo and the Kapoor sisters is the the wardrobe.

[00:25:54] Like the clothes are so amazing like all of the clothes that these actresses are wearing they look like a million bucks.

[00:26:02] And it's just it just jumps out like somebody competent put this movie together and that really shows you know and it's such a refreshing thing beside

[00:26:13] you know these actresses are great we know them like I watched two Krithi Sadan movies in the past two days and I could watch two more.

[00:26:21] Like I'm like onboard on the Krithi Sadan train like she's a unproblematic queen you know like she's great.

[00:26:29] The book Kareena I don't like I was thinking a lot about Kareena right like we can all agree she is amazing

[00:26:37] but I think we all had a certain pivot point maybe where Kareena convinced us that she is amazing right?

[00:26:44] And I was like trying to think back to when that moment was but she just has this superpower that works really well that even between Krithi Sadan and Tabu

[00:26:55] she forces you to watch her and hold me her and I don't know how she does that.

[00:27:01] And I just think it's amazing I think she is amazing and she has probably the best character also like the best character arc

[00:27:09] but she's really kind of what holds the movie together and she does it amazingly she is such a star.

[00:27:17] This is part where you know they are doing like the Choli Kippice song and Krithi is dancing her little hot out.

[00:27:31] Oh no it's Vot Vagra.

[00:27:33] Yeah it's Vot Vagra and Krithi is dancing a little hot out Tabu is doing like you know Tabu is very like Loki in songs anyway.

[00:27:43] And Krithi all she does is like give face.

[00:27:47] Like she's not putting like that maybe she does like two dance moves but like the focus is on her face and she knows that she

[00:27:58] like when the kids talk about a face card they're talking about Krithi you know like that is a face card.

[00:28:03] Even Nena in Nena this song like Krithi is like dancing and she has like this overcoat with like a bikini underneath it.

[00:28:12] I don't know how to explain what she's wearing and she's like dancing on the plane.

[00:28:16] And Karina is just like tapping her face that's all she's doing.

[00:28:20] She's tapping her face and saying Nena and then she's next to Diljeet and she just lights up the screen.

[00:28:26] Like again I don't know how you do that it's just like it's a face right it's a face like but how

[00:28:32] how do you do so much just with a face is I don't get it it's amazing.

[00:28:36] I mean that's what's called stardom right like some people have it and some people don't and Karina has it.

[00:28:42] Yeah but also I'm like I thought like Diljeet did like a really great job and he's been very competent for a very long time now.

[00:28:53] But I'm really excited for Amaseng Chumkila now.

[00:28:57] Like I'm like you know because he was vulnerable he was leading man material and he was sexy.

[00:29:09] Yeah he was sexy.

[00:29:10] Like this guy wants to bang.

[00:29:12] I like that energy you know.

[00:29:15] All of us double on tundra is the terminal kulge and everything.

[00:29:21] That's great.

[00:29:22] So I yeah I'm really like I liked everybody couple Sharma did a really great job.

[00:29:29] Like the only unbelievable thing was that taboo was his wife which is like really well.

[00:29:37] But there's this great side gag where like you know like taboo is just sort of feeling down so she dresses up in her tiara and I'm just kidding.

[00:29:45] Oh my god yes I love that I love that I love that.

[00:29:49] Yeah when the three have a big fight and they're having their low moment and taboo's go to to pick her up he's wearing the miscarnal tiara and have a drink it was amazing.

[00:30:02] But I feel like I'm fleeting scene even if it was a reaction again.

[00:30:07] But I like the way Kapil Sharma he puts his wife on a pedestal right?

[00:30:13] And that energy is really well illustrated really well that he didn't achieve much in life but he didn't marry this beauty queen.

[00:30:23] And at moments he's just sitting and like you know appreciating her as I can you do the can you do the airline thing where you know the safety message

[00:30:33] and I'll just watch you and be in awe of you. And I think that's a great energy because a lot of times that's the way we're watching taboo like how is this amazing human being just being and she's just there being taboo you know and it's it's pretty not amazing.

[00:30:48] I love the fact that you know we get a proper introduction to these characters and their lives without it being like self conscious and pretentious and like self aware and self conscious.

[00:31:03] Like I think that was my problem with murder mobara for example where it was just too harsh.

[00:31:09] You know it was too like I'm presenting this for the camera whereas like this it was just like hey let's just enter these people's lives and see how things move.

[00:31:20] And it was just like it was just perfect like you saw there's a scene where Triti's brother.

[00:31:29] Triti's brother finds out that she's been like lying and she's like I don't know how to like explain to our parents that I've been lying and he's like you can't tell them.

[00:31:39] What do you mean we just have to keep lying and I was like I recognize that is a conversation that every Indian sibling has had at some point where it's like what do you mean you want to like confess the truth?

[00:31:54] You can't confess the truth keep lying. This is going to go on to be end of time.

[00:31:59] It's not a lie it's to rely on your life.

[00:32:07] And to jump off that point of murder mobara because actually a point I was making when we were reviewing murder mobara is this this movie doesn't well where it is one of those

[00:32:17] those eat the rich kind of movies right like you rich people they're all stealing from us but the moment that these women do get rich it is fun.

[00:32:25] You know it is fun for you look as because they build it up so well that Karina's in that airport and she's stealing like empty Louis Vuitton bags just to have like a selfie.

[00:32:35] And the moment she can shop and buy that bag and you know that's really cool because you were I'm very curious that you're living through them

[00:32:43] you also want to be coverage right but they also understand that bigger evil are these Vijay Malia kind of guys that you want to at the end take down and murder mobara never had that layering where this movie does.

[00:32:58] Also the girl who plays the Vijay Malia characters daughter like that was so name Kapoor.

[00:33:07] Sonam Kapoor that's the thing I was just so glad Sonam Kapoor has retired because you I know Krithy Sannan's character would have been played by Sonam Kapoor and I was like so thankful that that's not happening anymore.

[00:33:23] If Sonam had a better self awareness she would have like auditioned to play the daughter.

[00:33:29] I actually did audition for this movie and then Rhea was just like no I feel like I read that story somewhere.

[00:33:37] It has like both of your hands which we are everybody else is so much like it's enough.

[00:33:46] But I was just going to get props also because we're talking about the Sonam Kapoor and Kapoor clan props to the product placement in this movie like yeah I know the over brand I know the brand that is delivering clothes to Karina I know the lint chocolate and all of these brands are now stuck in my head and that without annoying me I think that's pretty good product placement to be honest.

[00:34:13] Also always been really good with the product placement like all the movies have like excellent product placement and it's an Anil Kapoor film corporation production and they bring back that name in the news channel.

[00:34:26] It's AKFC news and the bank that gets gives Krithy's character the notification that her loan is due is also from AKFC bank.

[00:34:37] But also like you know the there's a scene where you know they feel like they're they're being hated upon by all their former friends and they're like well and you know like sort of like complaining like Karina's character sort of complaining about it.

[00:34:55] And taboo and Krithy are just like yeah but like when we were in their place we also hated the people who were doing better right.

[00:35:02] And they do a really good job of showing that these women are like just real assholes to you know like in whatever scenario it is that they're interacting with their former friends and colleagues.

[00:35:18] And there's also this part where like Karina is sort of like yelling at one of their colleagues and it's like oh you think you're a friend like friends don't try to like send friends to prison and everything and this woman is just like but you are not my friend.

[00:35:33] And also I didn't do that to you know like it's very I enjoy the fact that all the women in this in this movie I mean we started with the joke about it being like empowering or whatever.

[00:35:47] So I'll tell you what I did appreciate as a woman and that is that every woman in this is a grown up and they have like a job they like taboo and life yeah right.

[00:35:59] So taboo is like married to a man who's not like very good at making money maybe but she has the ambition that he doesn't it's always her dream to like move to go out and open a restaurant whatever.

[00:36:12] And she's supportive but she's the one who is building that feature for them you know she's the one who has this you know she talks about it as like but she's saloon ki gulami so that she can like achieve that dream of hers but she's the one who's working towards that.

[00:36:30] And there's a scene where she's basically just sort of relaxing at home getting a foot massage from her husband and she's got a drink and she's smoking but it's not like look at me look at how like we live our life like my husband is like pressing my feet and like I'm drinking and I'm smoking.

[00:36:50] It's nothing like that is just like look I need to like relax and just like at home with my husband and then they're just like being supportive of each other and really nice and good to each other.

[00:37:02] And I really appreciate that I appreciate that you know like Jasmine has these like really big dreams of the money that she wants to make and she always has like a backup plan and she's like really she's like true in reality is like my bag.

[00:37:19] But she's also like you know she's like trying to get a better life not just for her but also for her grandfather and also how nice was it like see cool bush in Kharagdha again you know.

[00:37:32] Everything was just nice.

[00:37:35] Good script writing also on the level that how they built in the reveal at the end that it's a Krieti flying the plane.

[00:37:44] Yeah she lands the plane in just such smart writing and so clear and it's so well built into this script because it is sort of her narration at the start of the movie right it's her voice over and not everybody gets a voice over she does.

[00:38:00] And the way it then comes back to it and loops at the end I thought that was just very smart very clever it's nothing like.

[00:38:07] And this is the whole thing about this movie none of it is groundbreaking none of it is shocking none of it is going to argue this is like the best movie ever made but it's just very competently well made and it serves its purpose it's well within the budget it's making good money it's got a good screaming streaming partner it's brought together a cast that we would never have seen otherwise right like.

[00:38:31] It's just so smart like it's it's I really think this is just a very successful production more than anything else you know that was.

[00:38:43] And that's just that's just a great and I think I mean it's called anil kapoor I don't think this and you can put anything to do with this I think this is really real kapoor that put this all together and props to her you know and it's a good.

[00:38:57] Yeah it's a it's a and we are yeah it's just like what a joy it's I think it's also kind of sad because we were either this point where.

[00:39:11] We're just giving out all the applause for this competent filmmaking but it's true like I just I just want to see competently.

[00:39:20] It's a rarity in these days when when first drafts get made into OTT shows and they drop every two weeks or so and they are forgotten within the week it becomes a rarity when a show or a movie drops like this when it's competently made and it's you know thoroughly entertaining from the first half to the second half and it doesn't drop your attention levels and it has actors that you really want to see and they're delivering whatever they sought out to you.

[00:39:49] In the first place you know it's a rarity these days like that the vote for Gagra song like the remix when you sort of like follow them through the club and they're just like having fun and they're dancing but they're not dancing for you know the middle gaze yeah they're not doing it for the male gaze it's not an item song it is literally three women having a good time with each other.

[00:40:17] Yeah and like how long has it been since we saw something like that in Hindi cinema you know like it's just like I just sat there just watching it and I was just like I just love this so much not just for myself but also for like women who are watching it but also like the women who are performing in it because they just like get to do this thing.

[00:40:45] Where it's not just like oh look at me being sexy and it's a very sexy song you know like both the Ilha and Numbers are like very sexy songs but they're being like told like they're being performed in order to

[00:41:02] to a prerog the story or like in service of the story itself which again is a rarity into 2024 which is just like so sad.

[00:41:13] I wanted to also take my wife and my daughter to this movie because I knew they were gonna like it and when my daughter is like around 11 12 and I do always check the rating of a movie before I go like what is the like especially the BBC website is really good because they

[00:41:31] are specifically tell you you know what the problematic issue is or what the rating why the rating is there and I knew that this was gonna be a safe movie you know I knew that's I would not have any issues with taking my young daughter this is because I know the women and the people that are making this movie right and that's not even a guarantee I have with other movie makers or other stars right.

[00:41:55] That was kind of cool because it is it is it does not I knew there was not going to be any creepiness or violence or you know male gazing is because I don't think these women are the people that are making this movie would be into that and I thought that was just really that was really cool you know

[00:42:12] and also just talking about the quality I think we're maybe even downplaying how good this movie is because this movie is better than donkey it's better than rade it's better than circus it's better than change by Jordan it's better than Fritvi Raj you know like this is much better than a lot of movies out there that we had to sit through in the last few times with leading male male stars right.

[00:42:38] So I don't even want to say you know like I feel like when I was talking about the competency of the movie maybe I'm under playing that it's actually also a really good movie and I think when it does come out on Netflix I think people will have a lot of fun do you want to take.

[00:42:53] Yeah go ahead and this movie is better than Jovan I was all before I put in doon key I was almost going to say that but I was like I don't want to create another controversy but I let you have it yeah I see that yeah.

[00:43:10] Yeah I just had a lot of fun with this and it's also one that I'll be rewatching it has a lot of rewatchability to it you know yeah there's a portion where you know in the second half and they're planning their highs to loot Vijay Valya they are you know sort of scouting out the location at the hotel and they have to order this really expensive tea and taboo says yeah.

[00:43:37] Yeah. So don't look at coffee munga you jack.

[00:43:42] What are lying what are lying and taboo gets to say it.

[00:43:47] Gold heist is so good the gold smuggling is amazing how they get to that idea how they do it when they almost get caught.

[00:43:57] It's like even also props that lady that's playing the customer officer yeah she is great the moment she just starts smashing those chocolate boxes because she's so frustrated because she knows she has you know the right information.

[00:44:10] Yeah I only have good things to say about this we are really really like the crew like crew cool anything else we want to talk about.

[00:44:26] No I think that's it.
