In this episode of Editorial, Mr. Sujit Nair discusses the ongoing chaos and repeated adjournments in Parliament, with disruptions in both houses lasting several days. These interruptions stem from opposition protests over the Adani issue. Mr. Nair questions the opposition's approach and suggests that they should act on two fronts: engaging in healthy debates in Parliament and mobilizing support on the streets among the public.

[00:00:00] Namaskar, welcome to another episode of editorial. You see the parliament is the temple of our democracy and somewhere down the line in the last couple of decades we have been seeing our parliament decay.
[00:00:23] Decay. Let's talk about our parliament, let's talk about what's happening in the parliament right now, let's talk about the parliament being adjourned after adjourned, not one hour of actual productive work, let's talk about all of that, let's get right into the show.
[00:00:40] So, the congress party has called for a complete halt in parliament proceedings till such time that the parliament decides to discuss the department of justice indictment of Adani Green, Adani Group.
[00:01:04] Congress said, we will not do anything else, we will talk about it.
[00:01:06] There can be no point of order when the house is in disorder. The house is in disorder. The house stands again to meet at 11 am on Thursday.
[00:01:18] Chadan ku shanle dijiye, chadan ka mahatta pun chadan samayin hai. Dheesh dekh rahay poora, apne seat pper beijiye please.
[00:01:26] Please!
[00:01:53] The House stands adjourned to meet at 12 noon today.
[00:02:28] The House stands adjourned to meet at 12 noon.
[00:02:38] The House stands adjourned to meet at 12 noon.
[00:02:39] Malika Arjun Karge had called for a meeting of India Bloc in his chambers saying that
[00:02:48] we will meet at 12 noon.
[00:02:51] The House stands adjourned to meet at 12 noon.
[00:03:21] The House stands adjourned to meet at 12 noon.
[00:04:06] The government benefits the most because the government continues with whatever they want
[00:04:11] to do.
[00:04:12] Is this opposition?
[00:04:14] Is this how you oppose?
[00:04:16] Yes.
[00:04:17] Okay.
[00:04:18] What Trinamul says is that Baba listen you know what Adani we are also opposing.
[00:04:24] We are not saying that we are not opposing Adani but Trinamul says that Baba let us sit and
[00:04:30] talk.
[00:04:30] talk.
[00:04:31] Because it is not just Adani we want to discuss Manipur.
[00:04:34] It is not just Manipur we want to discuss the Manarega wages that has not been paid to
[00:04:40] West Bengal.
[00:04:41] It is not just Manarega wages there are so many other issues that we would like to discuss.
[00:04:46] So let us sit let us discuss and let us also discuss Adani and DOJ.
[00:04:51] DOJ is Department of Justice.
[00:04:53] They are saying let us do that.
[00:04:55] Because end of the day if you don't discuss what are you achieving?
[00:05:00] By disrupting the parliament what are you achieving?
[00:05:02] By going coming in the morning and in half an hour going home what are you achieving?
[00:05:08] What is the nation achieving?
[00:05:10] 20,000 odd crores spend on the parliament that the new central vista 20,000 crores our
[00:05:17] money spend and for what?
[00:05:20] For dharna?
[00:05:21] For what?
[00:05:22] To disrupt the parliament?
[00:05:24] That's the point number one.
[00:05:26] The point number two anyway our parliament was kind of disregarded.
[00:05:35] Anyway our parliament was degenerating.
[00:05:39] Like I told you before our parliament was degenerating.
[00:05:43] Till 2024 we saw bills being passed in 11 minutes and 4 minutes and 3 minutes and 2 minutes.
[00:05:49] Bills came passed went bills came passed went no debate no discussion no parliamentary board nothing.
[00:05:55] The concept of parliament was completely disregarded.
[00:06:02] Destroyed.
[00:06:03] The concept of debate, understanding what the opposition wants, defending what the government
[00:06:13] has delivered or is proposing.
[00:06:16] This concept didn't exist.
[00:06:19] The powerful government used to say ye hai, mangta hai, ne mangta hai, chad chhodo yaar
[00:06:24] amara hi pass ho jaega, pass ho gaya.
[00:06:25] That was it.
[00:06:26] Four minutes bill passed gone.
[00:06:28] You like it you don't like it.
[00:06:30] What debate?
[00:06:32] If that is the case you know what happens.
[00:06:35] Technically it is correct because a government which has a brutal number and that point in
[00:06:39] time NDA had that brutal number of you know just passing any bills.
[00:06:45] The government passing bills like this makes this not a democracy but a majoritarianism government.
[00:06:53] Whatever the majority thinks that will what will happen.
[00:06:57] That is very different to the form of democracy.
[00:07:00] democracy is where every community, every group, every caste, creed, social economic classification
[00:07:10] is represented.
[00:07:12] There is a point of view.
[00:07:15] Their point of view is heard.
[00:07:19] If you don't hear point of views, you will only take decisions for people who have the power.
[00:07:27] Majoritarianism is nothing close to democracy.
[00:07:30] Let us be very clear and let us be very well defined in our brain that
[00:07:34] Majoritarianism and democracy are two different things, two separate things.
[00:07:39] Let us not mix them at all.
[00:07:43] What was happening till 2024 was absolute brute majorityism.
[00:07:48] The government wants it happens.
[00:07:50] End of story.
[00:07:52] Whether the opposition likes it, whether the opposition doesn't like it, whether the opposition
[00:07:56] is for it, whether the opposition is for it, whether the opposition has a point of view,
[00:07:58] whether the opposition doesn't have a point of view, to hell with it.
[00:08:02] That was majorityism.
[00:08:05] 2024 we thought that it has changed.
[00:08:08] There was some level of strength that the opposition had in the house.
[00:08:14] But is this how the opposition is using that strength?
[00:08:18] By not allowing the house to function.
[00:08:22] And if they do this, if they continue to do this, do you think that this will help us
[00:08:28] or this will harm us?
[00:08:29] You see, we have been questioning, we have been talking about is Adani India?
[00:08:36] Everything is Adani.
[00:08:39] Adani is being spoken more than a farmer who committed suicide in India.
[00:08:45] Adani is spoken more than a middle class of India.
[00:08:49] Adani is spoken more than an unemployed youth of India.
[00:08:52] Adani is spoken more than an MSME owner of India who is languishing.
[00:08:56] Adani is spoken more than an entire mind space, entire media space, entire parliament space,
[00:09:03] all going to Adani.
[00:09:05] Which means Adani is India.
[00:09:06] India is Adani.
[00:09:08] Isn't that what it is?
[00:09:10] Now the parliament where all these subjects have to be discussed,
[00:09:14] that too is stalled because of one person Adani.
[00:09:18] Adani, are you discuss Adani?
[00:09:20] But also discuss other things.
[00:09:25] Unemployment, MSMEs, economy, our GDP.
[00:09:31] Discuss all these things.
[00:09:32] We had a very bad GDP this time around.
[00:09:34] Who will be discussing those issues?
[00:09:38] Adani.
[00:09:39] That's it.
[00:09:42] Point number three.
[00:09:43] Point number four.
[00:09:45] You see, you know what is an opposition?
[00:09:49] An opposition functions at two levels.
[00:09:52] One in the parliament.
[00:09:55] And you know what?
[00:09:57] The most powerful form of opposition is on the streets with the people.
[00:10:06] And, you know, taking the people along.
[00:10:09] That is how opposition functions.
[00:10:12] You see, our opposition currently, a lot of things are happening.
[00:10:17] A lot of things happened.
[00:10:19] But we never found our opposition on the streets.
[00:10:22] We never found our opposition on the streets fighting for the rights of the people.
[00:10:27] That we didn't find.
[00:10:28] No opposition leaders did a dharma in Mumbai saying that why is Adani not investigated.
[00:10:37] They are sitting in the comfort of the 20,000 crore central Vista parliament, putting their legs up and then saying we are cutty.
[00:10:45] We are not going to allow this thing to function so that we can have more time.
[00:10:48] And we will go back home and we will enjoy ourselves.
[00:10:53] The protest is happening in an air conditioned environment because possibly outside now even the weather is cold.
[00:10:59] Maybe earlier on it was hot outside and our opposition may not want to kind of sweat it out.
[00:11:06] I am amazed.
[00:11:09] I am amazed as to why our opposition is never found on the streets.
[00:11:16] Why is our opposition never found on the streets?
[00:11:19] Why don't we see dharna's?
[00:11:22] Why don't we see protest?
[00:11:23] Why don't we see protest outside Mantralai, outside Parliament House?
[00:11:28] Why don't we see protest?
[00:11:29] That's what the opposition is supposed to do.
[00:11:32] Protest.
[00:11:34] Sweat it out.
[00:11:36] Be with the people.
[00:11:39] Organize the people.
[00:11:42] Inform the people.
[00:11:43] Gather people.
[00:11:45] Help people rally around them and then talk, put their issues on ground.
[00:11:51] And that happens from ground.
[00:11:53] That is not seen.
[00:11:55] That is not seen.
[00:11:56] What Rahul Gandhi and Congress should not forget is if Congress and Rahul Gandhi has got the image that they have is only because of on ground activity.
[00:12:08] It is the Bharat Jodo Yatra that got catapult Rahul Gandhi to what he is today.
[00:12:13] It is the Bharat Jodo Yatra that catapult Congress to whatever it is today.
[00:12:18] I won't say what it is today.
[00:12:20] Whatever it is today.
[00:12:23] But unfortunately, there is no other leader except for Rahul Gandhi or I don't even see Rahul Gandhi doing that who can actually go down on ground.
[00:12:32] KC Venugopal, I don't even think has seen ground.
[00:12:38] It's either in his car or in an air conditioned office.
[00:12:42] So there you have no presence.
[00:12:45] On ground with the people, no presence.
[00:12:47] Wherever you are, you have been elected, you are put into parliament and you disrupt the parliament.
[00:12:53] A parliament where you could put your point.
[00:12:55] A parliament where you could put your debate.
[00:12:57] A parliament where you could put your point of view.
[00:13:00] Now, before I end, a lot of y'all may ask me that listen, you know, what will he do?
[00:13:06] What will he do?
[00:13:07] Speaker allow me.
[00:13:09] You see, the first session of parliament, the way Rahul Gandhi handled it.
[00:13:14] I went to a relief camp.
[00:13:17] A woman was crying and crying and said to me,
[00:13:21] that I have in front of my eyes,
[00:13:24] yes, I can talk about the women.
[00:13:26] I can do it.
[00:13:30] You don't put the house in your house,
[00:13:32] but I can talk about the women.
[00:13:38] The question is not how efficiently the house is run.
[00:13:43] The question is, how much of India's voice is being allowed to be heard in this house?
[00:13:50] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:13:51] So the idea, because sir, so the idea that you can run the house efficiently
[00:13:58] by silencing the voice of the opposition is a non-democratic idea.
[00:14:03] I want to explain the photo.
[00:14:05] Sir, I want to explain the photo.
[00:14:06] Sir, this is the budget of the house.
[00:14:09] Sir, this is the house.
[00:14:11] And in this photo, sir, I can see one OBC,
[00:14:13] one Kadiwasi, one Ghalit.
[00:14:18] What is it?
[00:14:20] Sir, the country has been cut.
[00:14:24] And it has 73% of the house.
[00:14:27] Sir, you are eating the house.
[00:14:29] The people of India who are the students,
[00:14:31] we wanted to give joint message.
[00:14:34] Yes, give it.
[00:14:35] We wanted to give joint message to the opposition and the government side of this.
[00:14:41] We believe that we believe this.
[00:14:43] We thought that today
[00:14:45] we will discuss the discussion of the students' respect for today.
[00:14:48] We will discuss the discussion in the need.
[00:14:50] Hey!
[00:14:53] Hey!
[00:14:53] Hey!
[00:14:54] Hey, my English, please.
[00:14:55] My mother, my son.
[00:14:57] No, my son.
[00:14:58] No, my son.
[00:14:59] No, my son.
[00:15:00] No, my son.
[00:15:02] No, my son.
[00:15:02] No, my son.
[00:15:03] You are a great son.
[00:15:05] My son.
[00:15:06] My son.
[00:15:06] My son.
[00:15:07] My son.
[00:15:08] My son.
[00:15:10] I thought the change was on.
[00:15:15] The way he handled it.
[00:15:16] The way he dominated that parliament.
[00:15:18] Same speaker, no?
[00:15:21] Same member of the parliament.
[00:15:23] Nothing has changed, no?
[00:15:24] It is all the same, no?
[00:15:25] If he could handle it then, why can't he handle it now?
[00:15:30] If he could make his mark then, why can't he make his mark now?
[00:15:35] If he could prove his point then, why can't he prove his point now?
[00:15:38] Why take this easy way out?
[00:15:44] And why take this wrong way out?
[00:15:48] This time around, I think I support Mamata Banerjee when she says that, listen, all this happens, but let's start discussion.
[00:15:59] Because it's not just Adani.
[00:16:01] There is Manipur to discuss.
[00:16:02] There is youth to discuss.
[00:16:04] Lot more subjects to discuss.
[00:16:06] Manrega to discuss.
[00:16:07] That's a very valid argument.
[00:16:09] And I think the opposition should see some merit in that.
[00:16:13] Till I see you next time.
[00:16:14] That's tomorrow for my thousandth episode.
[00:16:18] My thousandth episode.
[00:16:19] So, let's see you.
