[00:01:01] Welcome back young explorers to another episode of Gizmo Grandma and Biscuit J.
[00:01:07] Today we are soaring into the skies with a story about a real life hero, John Flynn, also known as the Flying Doctor.
[00:01:17] His story is not just about flying planes, but about saving lives in the vast Australian outback.
[00:01:28] To learn how someone can be a doctor in the sky. That sounds really, really cool.
[00:01:38] Yes, J. John Flynn was born on November 25th, 1880 in Victoria, Australia.
[00:01:46] From a young age, John was a curious and caring boy.
[00:01:51] He loved nature and was always eager to help his neighbors and friends.
[00:01:57] His compassion and eagerness to help others laid the foundation for his future work.
[00:02:05] What did he do as a kid grandma?
[00:02:07] Well, J., John was quite the adventurer.
[00:02:12] He would often explore the countryside, learning about plants and animals,
[00:02:17] which nurtured a deep respect for life in all its forms.
[00:02:23] This respect for life became central to his career later on.
[00:02:30] And you know J., he was being called as Flying Doctor and what was the reason?
[00:02:35] After seeing the vast remote areas of Australia where medical help was scarce,
[00:02:44] John was determined to find a way to provide care to these isolated communities.
[00:02:50] His vision led to the founding of the Royal Flying Doctor Service in 1928.
[00:02:56] The service used aircraft to bring medical assistance to remote parts of Australia,
[00:03:03] transforming healthcare in the region.
[00:03:06] Isn't it amazing, J.?
[00:03:08] Yes.
[00:03:09] And so we actually made doctors fly to patients?
[00:03:13] That's amazing!
[00:03:16] Exactly, J.
[00:03:17] Today, the RFDS was a groundbreaking idea at that time.
[00:03:21] It used planes to transport doctors quickly over long distances
[00:03:26] and it was equipped with radio communication to stay in touch with the remote patients.
[00:03:33] Doesn't it sound interesting, J.?
[00:03:36] Yes.
[00:03:36] And you know what?
[00:03:39] The impact of John Flynn's work, it became so monumental.
[00:03:44] Today, the RFDS is one of the largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organizations in the world.
[00:03:54] It provides emergency and primary healthcare services across millions of square kilometers.
[00:04:02] What do current doctors say about their work, Ranma?
[00:04:06] When I grow up, I really want to become a doctor and help patients get better.
[00:04:11] Ah, that's so nice ambition, J.
[00:04:15] You can definitely accomplish with dedication and hard work.
[00:04:21] Doctors today are incredibly proud to be part of the RFDS.
[00:04:26] They talk about the joy and fulfillment they get from being able to reach people who otherwise wouldn't have access to medical care.
[00:04:36] It's not just a job.
[00:04:38] It's a commitment to continuing John Flynn's legacy of caring and innovation.
[00:04:45] And now for the key takeaways for the kids, J.
[00:04:50] First, helping others like John Flynn.
[00:04:54] Always look for ways to help those around you.
[00:04:58] Whether it's helping a friend with their homework or caring for a pet, every act of kindness makes a difference.
[00:05:06] Yes.
[00:05:07] And another one, innovation and problem solving.
[00:05:10] John Flynn saw a big problem and came up with a creative solution.
[00:05:14] Always think about how you can solve problems in new and effective ways.
[00:05:22] Last one.
[00:05:24] John's dream might have seemed impossible at first, but his courage to pursue it changed many lives.
[00:05:33] Don't be afraid to chase your big dreams.
[00:05:35] Mm-hmm.
[00:05:37] That's a nice one, J.
[00:05:39] John Flynn's story teaches us that with compassion, innovation and determination, you can make the world a better place.
[00:05:49] Thanks, Grandma, for sharing such an inspiring story.
[00:05:54] It makes me think about what problem I might solve when I grow up and become a doctor.
[00:06:00] That's a nice, J.
[00:06:02] Keep thinking.
[00:06:04] You will definitely find an answer.
[00:06:07] Thank you, young adventurers.
