[00:00:00] A friend of mine and me were in the midst of a huge argument the other day and I knew I was wrong.

[00:00:14] I knew I had to say I was sorry because I knew I'd made a mistake.

[00:00:21] But somehow, a part of me was unwilling to acknowledge that I was wrong.

[00:00:27] I did not want to admit that I'd made a mistake.

[00:00:30] So she sent me this forward. She said,

[00:00:32] You are more than the choices that you make.

[00:00:35] You are more than the sum of your past mistakes.

[00:00:38] You're more than the problems you create.

[00:00:40] You've been remade.

[00:00:42] And it was an absolutely beautiful quote.

[00:00:45] I sat back. I thought about what I had said to her.

[00:00:48] I did pick up the phone later and I did say I was wrong.

[00:00:52] And to be very honest with you, this admitting my problem has genuinely been a battle with me.

[00:00:59] I realized that a part of me, the self-judgment that I had, the self-criticism that I had,

[00:01:05] I was clinging on to that.

[00:01:07] But a bit by bit, the critical part inside of me softened

[00:01:11] and over a period of time I learned to pay more attention to the truths inside

[00:01:16] instead of always beating myself up.

[00:01:18] We all are victims of certain belief systems.

[00:01:22] We all have certain patterns that we keep repeating in our lives

[00:01:26] and we have certain false beliefs that we hold on to.

[00:01:29] While opening to the deeper truths within,

[00:01:33] we need to understand and acknowledge these very patterns that we are holding on to.

[00:01:38] Regardless of our choices, mistakes and problems that we sometimes create,

[00:01:43] another magnificent truth to hold on to is that we are always worthy of love.

[00:01:49] Mistakes and failures form the real foundation of learning.

[00:01:54] But choosing to ignore them or covering up for them may not really be very helpful for us.

[00:02:00] We need to own our mistakes, reflect on them and move forward with confidence.

[00:02:07] Like Henry Ford said, the only real mistake is the one from which you learn nothing.

[00:02:13] During a Harvard commencement speech,

[00:02:16] J.K. Rowling who's the author of Harry Potter outlined the importance and value of failure.

[00:02:22] She said a few short years after her graduation from college,

[00:02:25] her worst nightmares were realized.

[00:02:27] In her words, what she said was,

[00:02:29] I had failed on an epic scale and exceptionally short-lived marriage had imploded

[00:02:35] that I was jobless, a lone parent and as poor as it is possible to be in modern Britain

[00:02:41] without being homeless.

[00:02:43] The fears that my parents had had for me and that I had had for myself

[00:02:47] had both come to pass and by every usual standard, I was the biggest failure I knew.

[00:02:53] But coming out of this failure stronger and more determined was the key to her success.

[00:02:58] You can pick up a mistake and carry it as a burden

[00:03:01] or you can set it down and use it as a stepping stone to greatness.

[00:03:05] Here's to each one of us having the courage to admit that we're wrong,

[00:03:10] to work on our mistakes, to let go of those faulty belief systems,

[00:03:15] to let go of those patterns that we keep repeating in our lives.

[00:03:19] Have a great week everyone and take good care of yourselves.

[00:03:23] We'll speak to you again next week.

[00:03:25] Bye for now.
