[00:01:35] The uncertainty surrounding the selection of Chinder's successor remains as coalition leaders have yet to reach a consensus on the candidate.

[00:01:42] Accompanied by Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fatnavis and Ajit Bawar, Chinder met Governor CP Radha Grishnan earlier in the day to officially submit his resignation.

[00:01:51] Following this, the Governor requested Chinder to continue in a caretaker role until the new Chief Minister is sworn in.

[00:01:57] The outgoing Assembly's term concluded on Tuesday, adding urgency to the transition process.

[00:02:03] The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition seeking to revert to ballot paper voting in elections in the country.

[00:02:09] What happens is, when you win the election, EVMs are not tampered.

[00:02:13] When you lose the election, EVMs are tampered with, remarked the bench of Justices Vikram Nad and PB Varale.

[00:02:18] Apart from ballot paper voting, the police sought several directions, including a directive to the election commission to disqualify candidates for a minimum of five years if found guilty of distributing money, liquor or other material inducement to the voters during polls.

[00:03:32] The Interior Ministry said the army had been deployed to protect diplomatic missions in the fortified Red Zone area, where many government buildings and embassies are located.

[00:03:40] It added that a curfew could be imposed with paramilitary troops called in to block the marches, whom the Prime Minister blamed for the deaths, saying the troops were run over by vehicles in a convoy of protesters.

[00:03:53] At least five people, including two children, were killed and six others were injured when a truck ploughed into the roadside tent where they were sleeping in Kerala's Rishu district early on Tuesday, police said.

[00:04:03] The victims, nomads living in tents set up along the highway, were struck by the truck on a national highway in Natagab under the Walapar Police Station limits at around 4.30am, they said.

[00:04:12] Among the deceased are two children, aged one and a half and four years.

[00:04:16] Two women were also killed.

[00:04:17] According to the police, the truck was coming from Kannur with timber and the cleaner, who did not have a licence with driving the vehicle when the accident occurred.

[00:04:25] The driver and the cleaner have been taken into custody.
