[00:01:35] Maharashtra Chief Minister Aiknat Shingday proposed for Bharat Ratna to be awarded posthumously to industrialist Ratan Tata, who passed away in Mumbai on Wednesday night.
[00:01:45] The proposal was approved at the state level and will be sent to the central government.
[00:01:50] The state government also declared Thursday as a day to pay tributes to Tata.
[00:01:54] The iconic industrialist, who breathed his last at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital, was 86 years old.
[00:02:01] Many including PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, industrialist Mukesh Ambani and Rahul Gandhi paid homage to the chairman emeritus of Tata Suns.
[00:02:11] Omar Abdullah was unanimously elected as the leader of the National Conference Legislature Party, party president Farooq Abdullah said in Srinagar on Thursday.
[00:02:21] He said a meeting of the pre-poll alliance partners would be held on Friday to take the process of government formation further.
[00:02:29] Earlier, all the newly elected MLAs of the National Conference met at party headquarters to elect their leader, who is most likely to be the chief minister as well, in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly.
[00:02:39] DNC emerged as the single largest party in the assembly polls, with 42 seats and a comfortable majority in the 95-member House, as its alliance partners Congress and CPIM won six seats and one seat respectively.
[00:02:55] Twelve of the 15 Indian Olympic Association Executive Committee members moved a no-confidence motion against its president, P.T. Usha.
[00:03:04] The proposal will be considered at a special general meeting on October 25.
[00:03:08] The motion, part of a 26-point agenda, criticized Usha's functioning, including alleged non-compliance with the IOA constitution, failure to convene the annual general meeting, and pressuring the Finance Committee to approve unauthorized expenses, reported national media.
[00:03:26] Key issues also included Usha's unilateral decisions on sponsorship deals, specifically granting Reliance Industries Ltd. four extra events without additional payment, reportedly causing a Rs. 24 crore loss to the IOA.
[00:03:42] Meanwhile, Usha recently stated that the Executive Committee was aware of the discussions with Reliance Industries Ltd.
[00:03:50] South Korean author Han Kang won the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature.
[00:03:55] The Swedish Academy said she won the award for her intense poetic prose that confronts historical traumas and exposes the fragility of human life.
[00:04:05] The prize is worth 11 million Swedish crowns.
[00:04:09] She is the first South Korean to win the Literature Prize.
[00:04:12] Han Kang began her career in 1993 with the publication of a number of poems.
[00:04:17] Her international breakthrough came with the novel The Vegetarian in 2015.
[00:04:23] Tennis star Rafael Nadal announced on Thursday that he will retire from tennis at the age of 38 following next month's Davis Cup finals.
[00:04:31] Nadal won 22 Grand Slam singles titles during an unprecedented era he shared with his rivals in the so-called Big Three, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.
[00:04:42] The Spaniard indicated his decision was related to persistent injury problems.
[00:04:47] Nadal didn't play in any tournaments after the Paris Olympics where he lost to old rival Djokovic in the second round of the singles tournament
[00:04:55] and reached the quarterfinals of the men's doubles with Carlos Alcaraz.
