[00:01:18] The Supreme Court on Monday asked Delhi Chief Minister Advankaj Rival who has been arrested

[00:01:22] in a money laundering case stemming from the alleged excess policy scam why has he

[00:01:26] not filed a bail application before the trial court.

[00:01:29] A bench of Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Deepankar Dutta was hearing the Ahmadini Party

[00:01:33] leaders plea challenging his arrest by the enforcement directorate.

[00:01:37] The lawyer said there are several reasons including that Kejriwal's arrest was illegal.

[00:01:42] The hearing in the matter is underway.

[00:01:44] The ED arrested Kejriwal on March 21 after the Delhi High Court refused to grant him protection

[00:01:49] from coercive action by the federal anti-money laundering agency.

[00:01:52] The chief minister is currently lodged in the Thihar Jail under judicial custody.

[00:01:57] The High Court had on April 9th upheld Kejriwal's arrest in the money laundering case saying

[00:02:01] there was no illegality about it and that the ED was left with little option after

[00:02:05] he skipped repeated summits and refused to join the investigation.

[00:02:09] The matter pertains to alleged corruption and money laundering in the formulation and

[00:02:12] execution of the Delhi government's now scrapped excess policy for 2021-22.

[00:02:19] The Delhi High Court on Monday dismissed a petition that had sought detections to disqualify

[00:02:22] Prime Minister Narendra Modi from contesting elections for six years for allegedly seeking

[00:02:27] votes in the name of deities.

[00:02:29] Justice Sachin Dutta said the plea was devoid of any merits.

[00:02:32] The petitioner had urged the court to take action against Modi for allegedly seeking votes

[00:02:37] in the name of gods and places of worship, saying this amounted to violating the modal

[00:02:41] court of conduct and committing an offence under the Indian Penal Code and Representation

[00:02:45] of the People Act.

[00:02:46] The Lok Sabha polls are currently being held in the country.

[00:02:51] The Centre on Monday told the Supreme Court that around Rs 3400 crore has been released

[00:02:55] to the Karnataka government for drought management in the state.

[00:02:58] A bench of justices B. R. Gawai and Sandeep Mehta was hearing a plea filed by the Karnataka

[00:03:03] government seeking a deduction to the centre to release financial assistance from the National

[00:03:07] Disaster Response Fund to the state for drought management.

[00:03:11] Senior advocate Kapil Sibil appearing for Karnataka said Rs 3450 crore has been released

[00:03:16] but the state's request was for assistance of Rs 18,000 crore.

[00:03:20] He said an inspection was done by an interim ministerial team which sent a report

[00:03:23] to a subcommittee.

[00:03:25] The petition has sought to declare that the centre's action in not releasing the financial

[00:03:28] assistance for drought management as per the NDRF is ex-phasie violative of the fundamental

[00:03:33] rights of the people of the state guaranteed under Articles 14 and 21 of the constitution.

[00:03:38] It said the state is reeling under severe drought, affecting the lives of its people

[00:03:42] and for the Khair of 2023 season which starts in June and ends in September.

[00:03:46] A total of 223 out of 236 thaloogs are declared as drought affected.

[00:03:51] The police said 196 thaloogs are categorised as severely affected and the remaining 27

[00:03:56] as moderately affected.

[00:03:57] It said the assistance sought from the centre under the NDRF is Rs 18,171.44 crore.

[00:04:06] The Ahmadini Party claimed the election commission has banned its looks about campaign songs

[00:04:09] Lail Ka Jawa both said denge but officials of the Delhi poll body said the party was

[00:04:14] asked to modify the contents of the song since it violated EC's guidelines in advertising

[00:04:18] codes.

[00:04:19] The over-2 minute campaign song penned and sung by Ahmadini Party MLA Dilip Pandey was released

[00:04:25] as the party had caught us on Thursday.

[00:04:27] In a statement, the Delhi Chief Electoral Office said during a review and scrutiny of

[00:04:30] the advertisements submitted by the Ahmadini Party, the media pre-certification committee

[00:04:34] headed by Delhi's Joint Chief Electoral Officer made certain observations with

[00:04:38] reference to various provisions and guidelines stipulated by the election commission.

[00:04:42] Earlier, the Delhi poll panel said certain images and phrases are slanderous remarks

[00:04:46] and criticism of the ruling party on the basis of unverified facts and also cast aspersions

[00:04:51] on the judiciary and police.

[00:04:53] Addressing a press conference, Ahmadini Party senior leader Aathishi accused the election

[00:04:56] commission of becoming a political weapon of the BJP and turning a blind eye to its

[00:05:01] violations.

[00:05:02] She also asserted that the campaign song does not mention the BJP and does not violate

[00:05:06] the modal code of conduct.

[00:05:09] The Indian Meteorological Department on Monday sounded an odd in Jalot in Kerala's

[00:05:13] Palakkar district due to the possibility of a heat wave, where the agency also

[00:05:17] issued a yellow alert in some areas of Kullam and Trishu districts in the wake of scorching

[00:05:21] heat and due to the possible threat of a heat wave, the Kerala State Disaster Management

[00:05:25] Authority said.

[00:05:26] The IMD predicted that the temperature in Palakkar and Kullam and Trishu districts

[00:05:30] was likely to soar up to 41 degrees Celsius and 40 degrees Celsius respectively from April

[00:05:35] 29th through May 3rd.

[00:05:36] The temperature in Kodikot district is likely to soar up to 39 degrees Celsius,

[00:05:40] the state disaster management authority said in a statement.
