[00:00:09] Hello, this is your Daily Dose of News from Onmanorama. I'm your host Vaishnavi and these are the major news stories of Friday, January 24, 2025. Eight people died and seven others were injured in a blast at an ordnance factory in the Bandara district of Maharashtra. The explosion, which occurred around 10.30am in the LTP section of the factory in Javahar Nagar, caused the roof to collapse.

[00:00:35] Search and rescue efforts are underway and 16 individuals have been rescued so far. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis initially reported that 13 to 14 workers were trapped at the site. The Adani group has hired independent law firms to review the US indictment against his founder Gautam Adani, his nephew Sagar and key executor Vinit Jain in a USD 265 million bribery case.

[00:01:01] The case alleges that bribes were paid to intent officials to secure renewable energy contracts benefiting Adani Green Energy Limited. In a filing, Adani Green Energy Limited stated that it complies with applicable laws and regulations and is not named as a defendant in the indictment. The charges against Adani and others include securities fraud conspiracy, wire fraud conspiracy and making false statements to US investors.

[00:01:29] Ten opposition MPs, including Kalyan Banerjee, Asuddin Ovaisi and A. Raja were suspended for the day from the Joint Parliamentary Committee discussing proposed changes to the Waqf Act of 1955. The suspensions followed disruptions during Friday's meeting where opposition MPs protested a lack of time to review the proposed amendments before hearing from Mirvai's Umar Farooq, the religious leader of Kashmir.

[00:01:57] Tensions escalated when opposition MPs accused the BJP members of rushing the bill through before the upcoming Delhi elections. Mirvai's opposed the changes arguing that they would lead to government interference in religious affairs. The proposed amendments include changes to Waqf Board administration.

[00:02:16] Hundreds of migrants were arrested and deported by military aircraft as part of US President Donald Trump's mass deportation operation, which began on Thursday, according to the White House. The crackdowns followed Trump's promise during his election campaign to address illegal immigration, marking a significant step in his second term. The operation resulted in 538 arrests and deportations, with many detainees allegedly taken without proper warrants.

[00:02:43] This move is part of a broader effort to address the estimated 11 million undocumented migrants in the US, as Trump has taken executive actions to strengthen border security. The forest department has decided to kill a man-eater tiger in Vainaut if efforts to capture it fail, following the death of Radha, a 48-year-old tribal woman who was attacked while harvesting coffee beans on Friday.

[00:03:09] Minister A.K. Shashindran confirmed that human safety is a top priority, and Chief Wildlife Warden Pramod Jayakrishnan said field officers have been instructed to locate and capture the tiger using lethal force if necessary. The department will deploy additional cages and experts will increase patrols along the Bandipur-Vainaut Wildlife Sanctuary Corridor. Radha's death has sparked protests, although they were later called off.

[00:03:36] The government has announced Rs 11 lakh in financial aid for her family. Radha, the wife of a forest watcher, was found dead on the farm where her husband dropped her off. She is the aunt of Indian women's cricketer Minnumani. That brings us to the end of this episode. Thanks for listening to Daily News Doors, hosted by me Vaishnami and produced by Kannan.
