[00:00:00] Hi, this is Rishabh and this is Vanita. Welcome to Connect The Dots podcast where we want to discuss facts of life

[00:00:07] to help the next generation. Some of the topics we will be discussing about here are

[00:00:12] parenting, schooling, talents, life hacks, new trends, travel mindset and more.

[00:00:17] Hey there, welcome to Connect The Dots podcast and we're here

[00:00:22] continuing our conversation about Rishabh's Malaysia trip. So if you haven't heard the previous two episodes

[00:00:27] please go back and hear them before you come to the part three.

[00:00:30] So let's dive straight in and now after discussing the experiences that Rishabh had with his

[00:00:36] Grandmaster and other teachers in Malaysia as well as the experiences of the students from outside of India

[00:00:41] we're now going to the most important part of the whole trip which is the tournament.

[00:00:46] So there was a tournament that was organized for all the kids from around the world.

[00:00:51] There was about 400 to 500 contestants and they were split into multiple categories like age-wise,

[00:00:57] and then the belt-wise and also the activity-wise. So some of them were doing

[00:01:03] technique display, technique demonstrations and some that's called the Pum Sek and some of them were doing sparring directly.

[00:01:09] So Rishabh, I want you to explain now what were you into and stuff like that? Yeah.

[00:01:14] I was doing the technique demonstrations also called as Pum Sek. So it was very

[00:01:23] stressful in the beginning. So alright, but it was much more stressful towards the end.

[00:01:28] So at first when I attended, when we woke up early at five o'clock to go to the tournament,

[00:01:36] it was actually very

[00:01:39] uprising in a way. So when I got up I felt like

[00:01:43] wow today's the tournament. I hope I win. Okay? But I was also scared. Oh no, what if this happens?

[00:01:50] I'm going to lose. What if this happens? So when I,

[00:01:55] after I got up we went for breakfast. It was like a nice,

[00:02:00] I forgot the name of the thing, but it was some sort of naan kind of thing. A naan is basically like a bread

[00:02:07] if you don't know, but it's like a bread, but it's very stretchy. Okay.

[00:02:12] So that's an easy way to explain it.

[00:02:14] So we ate something like that and then I even drank some tea or something and then we were off to go to the tournament.

[00:02:21] Okay, and after we reached the tournament, I was like surprised looking at all the other students. They were doing

[00:02:28] other crazy stuff. They were blue belts and all in their age. Blue belt is

[00:02:34] two belts away from red. Two belts, only two belts. So

[00:02:39] we saw crazy blue belts which are at the age of five and

[00:02:43] they were

[00:02:44] very good. I was surprised.

[00:02:46] I thought I was going to do the Pumse with the blue belts and I was like, what?

[00:02:53] If it's age category wise am I going to go against some dudes who have already passed the test? And then

[00:03:00] after later on I figured out that it's only

[00:03:04] yellow, yellow green and green. So

[00:03:08] yellow green is the belt after yellow and

[00:03:11] yellow and after yellow green comes green.

[00:03:14] Okay.

[00:03:14] So after green comes green, blue and blue. Okay?

[00:03:19] So we thought initially that we were going to go up against like red belts who have already passed it and I was like what?

[00:03:25] What is going to happen to me? Okay, then after I figured it out

[00:03:29] I was like okay. So you were competing in the nine to eleven age group for yellow, yellow green and green belt, correct?

[00:03:35] Yeah, and there were like 40 students in the whole

[00:03:39] yellow to yellow green, nine to eleven. Okay, so it was actually quite I

[00:03:45] I was still stressed because they could be like really really good and

[00:03:52] Surprisingly some of them were pretty good. Okay, so then after that

[00:03:58] I

[00:04:00] was number I think I was number

[00:04:04] 25. Yeah, I was number 25 to go

[00:04:07] So they were taking it number wise number one number two number three number four and then till 40. Okay

[00:04:14] then

[00:04:15] First I was number 25. Okay when they called out my name to sit in the row

[00:04:22] Then I was kind of scared there was

[00:04:25] so then I went and

[00:04:28] Then it was top 16 whoever comes in the top 16

[00:04:32] qualifies to semi-finals. Mm-hmm

[00:04:34] No, sorry in the top 20 or something top 20, yeah top 20, okay and

[00:04:41] I

[00:04:42] was kind of scared because I thought I wouldn't make it in the top 20. Okay, and

[00:04:49] After I finished my

[00:04:52] demonstration

[00:04:53] They just said wait

[00:04:56] Okay, and then

[00:04:58] When I saw my rank on the thing I was in eight rank eight

[00:05:04] And that means I was eighth place after it and then I was like, wow

[00:05:09] I'm eighth place. No, that's it. So did you feel like you're playing a video game? Yeah

[00:05:14] I didn't think there was other rounds after this. Okay, then

[00:05:19] My sir said wait there two more rounds or three more hours and I was like, oh

[00:05:25] Crap, I don't think if I don't think I'm gonna pass

[00:05:29] Okay, then after that they said come back sit here they called out the names of who ever passed

[00:05:34] Okay, then then when they called out my name Rishabh. I was like, oh

[00:05:39] My god now I've come

[00:05:44] Then I came sitting in the row of

[00:05:48] 16 or 20 I think I don't remember

[00:05:51] Then it was top 16. Yeah, and then next was

[00:05:57] top

[00:05:59] After 20 was top 8 no top 16. Okay after top 20

[00:06:06] After that

[00:06:08] How many were in the finals you did you pass the semi-finals talk about that? Yeah, I passed the semi-finals

[00:06:14] That's why I was like wow. Okay, I passed. Okay, then

[00:06:18] after that I went and I sat in the row and

[00:06:22] There were eight people that you're competing with no kind of 16 people for the finals

[00:06:27] No, this is semi-finals to qualify to the finals, okay

[00:06:30] So there was only eight people in the past only top eight will go but there were 16 people

[00:06:35] Okay, so it's half half half. Okay, okay

[00:06:38] so

[00:06:39] When we went to the top 16, it was kind of like crazy. Okay

[00:06:46] So I saw this kid who was sitting next to me. We went a few rounds

[00:06:50] Okay, then he was like, oh no, I'm gonna lose it was a Malaysian kid and then he was like

[00:06:55] In 15th place. Okay, and then he was like, oh no, I'm gonna lose and then I was just like it's okay

[00:07:02] We'll wait and see but then he lost. Okay, okay

[00:07:07] so

[00:07:09] After that I went in okay after I went in

[00:07:13] How is

[00:07:15] My sir told me more power more power higher kicks higher kicks

[00:07:20] Then what I did more power and more kicks. I

[00:07:25] Qualified to the finals. Yeah, but they told me to just sit back down. They didn't tell me to wait

[00:07:31] Okay, then this was very stressful

[00:07:33] They called us they call the names who came out and then again they called Rishabh and I was like

[00:07:41] Okay, I've made it again. I hope this is not just luck

[00:07:45] Okay, then I I came well and this was

[00:07:51] top eight eight and

[00:07:54] Hey, there was like two more runs to go. Okay and

[00:07:59] For the top eight you needed you needed to be in the top four

[00:08:05] Pass. Okay. No, no, what am I saying?

[00:08:10] After the top 16 those stop it. Okay, we needed be there in the top eight and I think I got rank four

[00:08:17] okay in that in that

[00:08:19] top eight this thing okay after I came back and

[00:08:24] After that it was top five

[00:08:27] Now this was the finals. Okay, so I was so stressed out. Okay

[00:08:33] Finals means you go out at the top five. That's it. You're out. Yeah no more, but it's still a big thing

[00:08:40] Me and my friend one more friend made it to finals the rest of them gone

[00:08:45] God eliminate they got eliminated in the first round itself. Okay, so I was kind of stressed. What are these judges?

[00:08:52] Or tell me my rank is low and then I have to go out and all that stuff but

[00:08:58] When when we were going into finals

[00:09:01] My friend wasn't able to make it. Okay, okay, when you're passing finance

[00:09:06] He had to step out. Okay, the only friend that was there in that topic you knew yeah, they knew yeah

[00:09:15] and then

[00:09:17] After that they called out my name, okay

[00:09:19] I was like you came into the top five and yeah, I came I came on to the top five

[00:09:24] Yeah, then I had to go and I had to perform. Okay

[00:09:29] After I performed I got rank one the final

[00:09:33] Okay, so after that my other friends started shouting. Hey Rishabh one Rishabh one

[00:09:40] and then everybody else is silent and

[00:09:43] then

[00:09:44] Sir said quiet

[00:09:47] Okay, then

[00:09:49] After that there was this one Malaysian kid that came out of nowhere

[00:09:54] Yeah, so they were after me there were like four more people. They all came below me and

[00:10:00] Then then only my friend said Rishabh one did someone get then

[00:10:06] after that

[00:10:08] One Malaysian came out of nowhere and then he just

[00:10:12] Did his performance it was

[00:10:14] Excellent and then they just gave him first place. So I'm very happy

[00:10:18] I got to compete with someone who's so good and they've got second place, right?

[00:10:22] I don't know got second place and then

[00:10:25] His mother was right next to my friend who said Rishabh one and she started laughing because she was taking a video

[00:10:34] Because she knew she had confidence of you know son that she'd been

[00:10:38] So yeah, this is about the tournament that's fantastic

[00:10:41] So I'm gonna when I saw the photo that yes, sir sent your name was the only Indian name amongst all the other

[00:10:49] Indo

[00:10:50] Chinese names like some Lee Shang Tsung and some Kwan and all that some different, you know far east names

[00:10:57] so I found very proud that he had the first tournament you ever competed in and that was international and

[00:11:02] You're saying the standards of the students there were extremely high and that was something that

[00:11:08] Then I really felt proud of even if you didn't win. That's fine

[00:11:11] It was a great participation from your end, but more to go Rishabh. Do you think so? Yeah a lot

[00:11:16] Yeah, I think we've done like 11 minutes of the tournament

[00:11:19] We'll go to the you know, the fun things and we'll wrap it up in the next episode. What do you say?

[00:11:24] Yeah, okay. All right guys

[00:11:26] So if you like this episode do share it with your friends and you know

[00:11:30] Do make other kids listen to it if they feel also scared and nervous to compete in any, you know competition

[00:11:36] Because it's all about just taking the first step and then you know

[00:11:40] You would then have no looking back up there. So take care and see you in the next episode. Bye. Bye
