In this episode of Money Matters, I help a 25-year-old who fell into a gambling trap and accumulated over ₹12 lakh in debt from personal loans, credit cards, and borrowing from friends at high interest rates. Despite earning ₹52,400 monthly with minimal expenses, he's struggling under crushing EMIs. I create a step-by-step 2.5-year plan to help him become debt-free by prioritizing high-interest loans first and systematically clearing all obligations.
The most powerful part of our conversation was showing him the potential future after becoming debt-free. By investing ₹40,000 monthly with 10% annual increases, he could accumulate ₹1.5 crore in 10 years, ₹10 crore in 20 years, and ₹23 crore in 25 years! This episode is a stark reminder that compounding works both ways - it can either destroy your finances through debt or build immense wealth through disciplined investing.
