About the film / What inspired us:
This film is part of a PSA series based on the theme 'Break the Silence Around Sexual Violence.' It was conceptualized in the period after Raya Sarkar's crowdsourced LoSHA (crowdsourced List of Sexual Harassers in Academia) ignited the #MeToo movement in India. With Raya Sarkar and the survivors facing backlash, we wanted to address the difficulty in speaking up about sexual violence, in an environment where people associated with the accused often dismiss the accusations. These men and women, usually belonging to similar social groups as the accused, intimidate survivors into silence.
This film talks about the complicity of the peers of sexual harassers who create an environment where harassers enjoy impunity and harassment is normalized by trivializing their behavior. It asks not just survivors, but others who are aware of the harassers' behavior, to break the silence.
