Ladies and gentlemen, something SHOCKING is happening at the House of TATA. In FY21, when Air India was owned by the GOVERNMENT, it was losing ₹19.2 CRORE every single day. That is around 20 crores that the sarkari babus were burning every day. But in FY26, under the TATA GROUP, Air India is losing ₹42 CRORE every single day. Read that again. Air India is now losing MORE than DOUBLE the money it was losing under the government. And this is the same TATA GROUP that built TCS into a ₹52,000 CRORE profit machine. The same TATA GROUP that rescued JAGUAR and LAND ROVER from ₹2,400 CRORE in losses to ₹27,675 CRORE in profits. The same TATA GROUP that turned TATA SALT into a ₹4,000 CRORE brand. And it is not that they did not try. TATA and Singapore Airlines pumped ₹9,558 CRORE into Air India. They announced a ₹3,351 CRORE retrofit program. They placed the LARGEST aircraft order in aviation history, 470 aircraft. And yet, Air India is in the WORST state possible.
So how is it possible that the TATAS are doing WORSE than the sarkari babus of INDIA? I went down a rabbit hole. I read the supply chain reports, Boeing and Airbus order books, delivery schedules, and Air India's annual filings. And what I found is about to BLOW YOUR MIND. Because Air India is not stuck in ONE problem. It is stuck in FOUR TRAPS that even the mighty TATA Group cannot escape.
While Air India is bleeding ₹42 CRORE a day, FOREIGN airlines now operate 58.4% of INDIA's international flights and a staggering 95% of INDIA's international air cargo. Read that one more time. NINETY FIVE PERCENT of the cargo of the world's FIFTH LARGEST ECONOMY flies on FOREIGN carriers.
