In E5 of #ReminisceWithAsh, I talk about the India vs Australia, Titan Cup, 3rd ODI at Bengaluru, Oct 21, 1996.
Fun Fact: It was an All Karnataka bowling attack - Srinath, Prasad, Kumble, Joshi bowling 40 overs! The match had 6 Bangalore boys playing their home game with Sujith Somasunder opening the batting & Rahul Dravid.
The match made memorable by local lads, Anil Bhai & Java Bhai, pulling off one of the greatest heists of ODI cricket. The partnership started off with Javagal smoking Steve Waugh over mid-off for a MONSTROUS SIX, setting the tone. Anil & Srinath would talk to each other, prepping each other up after every ball, eventually taking India across the line. The most romantic moment during the partnership was the fact that Anil & Javagal's moms were watching the match from the stadium, casually watching the match along with fans. South Indian ladies clad in sarees. After each run, the camera would zoom on to them & their reactions were so pure & innocent.
An extremely underrated match, if the chase had happened in today's times, Javagal Srinath would have had a million followers on social media! :)
