[00:00:00] Cricket Podcast. Welcome to this week's episode of The Edges & Sledges Cricket Podcast. We are
[00:00:13] truly getting to the middle period of the IPL and things are heating up. We've seen record
[00:00:20] scores, we've seen centuries and losses, we've seen return to form. But DJ most importantly,
[00:00:26] we've seen some fantastic social media stuff. Yesterday I woke up in the morning and I saw
[00:00:33] MS Dhoni on a bike singing this song called, what is it? Bolejo Koyal, Bagome. And for anyone who's not
[00:00:42] seen this, basically for the last couple of years there was this engineered video of Dhoni
[00:00:46] dancing in like private space on a totally different song which people put on this Koyal
[00:00:54] song. And then last year, the year before, DJs are playing this song when he's entering the
[00:00:58] stadium. And what better way to shut up the trolls than to come out and make an ad about it
[00:01:05] where Dhoni is singing it himself? Now when I sent it to you guys, Ashwin's first reply was that
[00:01:10] this is AI generated. DJ, did you think that too? Yeah, I thought it was pretty fake because
[00:01:16] it was too accurate and his voice, I'm like, he's so off key. And he's singing a Falguni
[00:01:22] Patak song from 1998. Like most of our listeners, I don't know whether they've heard this song.
[00:01:26] Falguni Patak as you rightly said. Falguni Patak. But yeah, it was quite something,
[00:01:33] it's a cycle ad, right? But that's exactly to the point. No idea. Great advertising.
[00:01:40] Great advertising. It was too good. It was too good, man. But yeah, so lots
[00:01:46] happened since we last left off. So we recorded last Monday in the daytime. And so the game that
[00:01:52] was on Monday evening was that Mumbai Indians versus Rajasthan Royals. DJ, Mumbai Indians 125 for 9.
[00:02:00] As I look at this core card, Bolt, Rohit Sharma 0 for 1, Naman 0 for 1, Brevis 0 for 1.
[00:02:08] Is this just like, and you know, I swear I remember seeing a caption before the match started
[00:02:14] that said, we'll both take a wickedness first over. This is just part of the course, right?
[00:02:20] Well, it is. But what the scorecard doesn't tell you, Varun, is what went on before the
[00:02:26] toss, right? And and the I mean, Bolt came and destroyed them. Nandhribh Bagar came in
[00:02:32] and destroyed them. It was just a walkover. But what went on before the toss actually
[00:02:38] probably had quite a lot of bearing on that that performance from the Mumbai Indians now,
[00:02:43] as you know, and we talked about this last episode as well. Hadid Pandya was bored
[00:02:48] when he went to and the bad he's been kept in the end of all that stuff. But but he
[00:02:54] this was his first game coming back home to the one day stadium.
[00:02:59] And as he comes out for the toss, Sanjay Manjurekar is there with him. Sanju Samson's there,
[00:03:04] the Rajasthan Royals captain. Sanjay Manjurekar introduces heartik Pandya
[00:03:11] as the Mumbai Indians captain and urges the crowd to give him a round of applause.
[00:03:16] And what he gets instead is booing from the one KD crowd.
[00:03:22] And he tells the crowd to behave. Now I'm going to leave off your what? Tell me what you think
[00:03:27] about that is firstly, why are they angry at heartik for taking captaincy grabbing captaincy
[00:03:38] from Rohit? Are they angry at the management? There's I mean, there was quite a lot of Twitter
[00:03:43] back and forth we had on this. People are like the fans have the biggest stake. They are angry
[00:03:49] at the management. They're taking it out like this. But isn't it going to affect a guy who's
[00:03:54] taken over captaincy of a franchise he used to play for this franchise place for
[00:03:59] is played with lots of success, one lot of trophies for this franchise. He's come back.
[00:04:03] He's become the captain. He's also an India player. What's happening? Yeah, I mean, we've
[00:04:09] discussed this now, man. It's just before it's it's just it doesn't die. But it doesn't die. And
[00:04:15] that's a human joke that's rightfully said that in the next Mumbai game, they basically filled
[00:04:19] the stadium with all the young children or the school kids were just excited to be there.
[00:04:24] Like the teacher will come and shout at them and say, like they have to behave,
[00:04:28] right? Hashtag behave. Just take it to the next level. Hashtag behave. Yeah, it's just I there was
[00:04:34] a there was a Harsha Bogle video that I saw this week as well. And he actually articulated
[00:04:38] the same way we did, which is your CEO of a mid-sized company or you're doing well in
[00:04:44] your in your larger company. I see the mid-sized company invites you to be this year. You
[00:04:49] go there, you do well. And then the other company has to come back and become CEO. You're
[00:04:53] not going to say no, right? How many people are going to say no? That's exactly what we
[00:04:57] said on the show a couple of weeks back. So I don't think he's doing well. I think there's
[00:05:02] a lot to be said about his captaincy, his batting and his bowling. But that is different, man.
[00:05:07] You can talk about anyone Maxwell is in the same boat as as others. And people are just not
[00:05:12] doing well. That's very different to this kind of toxicity. So I hope it's getting put behind
[00:05:18] them as we're speaking and recording this episode. Mumbai is playing Delhi. And I'm
[00:05:25] pretty confident Mumbai is going to win this. So let's hope that at least a win
[00:05:29] starts to turn around for Harvick Pandya. Yeah, and I mean, he played a nice knock there. He
[00:05:34] got 34 of 21, I think again, and he took on dreadbolt, tried to turn the tide,
[00:05:40] those booze turned to cheers for a little while. But that's the fickle nature of the crowd.
[00:05:45] They just having fun for them. It's not like a player. It's just like they've gone out on a
[00:05:52] Monday evening or whatever it was, and they've had to go at a player because like how can Rohit
[00:05:56] Sharma be removed from Captain Hardik Pandya is this hard the pandas that bought ego. I saw some
[00:06:02] videos of fans leaving and they were being asked about what they thought about this. And they were
[00:06:08] like, this guy's got so much ego. He needs to give the captaincy back to Rohit. But when Rohit
[00:06:12] Sharma wasn't doing well, people were talking about his captaincy as well. So I don't know
[00:06:18] what the Mumbai fans want. But I mean, somewhere deep down inside, kind of watching this and enjoying
[00:06:23] the implosion of this fan base that has been like we are five type champions. So yeah. And today,
[00:06:29] in fact, as we're recording right today is the day where sky comes back into the team.
[00:06:34] And so I saw this tweet which said, you know, Surya Kamali Adhoff comes back into the team
[00:06:39] and people are replying saying with side of the team is he coming back. So it's going crazy.
[00:06:45] It's really exploding. But yeah, DJ, there's not much to write home in this game. Tilak Varma
[00:06:50] tried but played a very different knock given the situation as Trikirid was just about 110.
[00:06:56] Hardik Pandya tried and nothing really clicked. They got to 125 in 20 overs and Rajasthan Royals
[00:07:04] then came out and obviously at 125 given what we've seen in this IPL, you're just going to
[00:07:09] assume that they're the favorites. But they made a meal of it too, right? Like 127 for four and 15.3.
[00:07:16] So they got there within the right amount of overs that we would have expected.
[00:07:21] But apart from Rianne Parang, I don't think anyone really stood out there. So credit to him
[00:07:27] again coming in at number four, 54 of 39 really studied the ship and think about it, right?
[00:07:33] Jaiswal, Butler, Samson all got to 10, 12 but nobody sustained. So the total was low enough
[00:07:40] for a Rianne Parang show at a half century to win it. But it was the first time I kind of saw that
[00:07:48] this RR team which is top of the table has that little bit of weakness and if you can
[00:07:53] penetrate their top three, you have a chance, right? So I think so overall I would say,
[00:08:02] yeah, a bit of a disappointing game from a fans perspective but RR collected those two points.
[00:08:08] Mumbai's continue to stay at the bottom of the table. Let's move then to the Lucknow versus
[00:08:13] RCB match. Now this game is all last couple of years has been heated, right? Because the
[00:08:18] Gautam Gammir and Kohli debate and all of that. But this year it was I think very,
[00:08:24] very kosher, very friendly. LSG kind of relied very heavily on Dekok, 81 of 56. I didn't take him in
[00:08:33] my fantasy team unfortunately and I chose to go with Rahul but Dekok man he hit eight fours and
[00:08:39] five sixes. DJ this guy is retired from international cricket. Is he just like now enjoying himself
[00:08:46] and playing franchise cricket opening the batting taking it under your power play? Like I thought
[00:08:50] it was great to see. Is he retired from international cricket or ODI cricket? ODI cricket. I think T20 as
[00:08:56] well but maybe I'm wrong. Okay, I thought he retired from ODI cricket because World Cup was his last
[00:09:04] thing on that front. But yeah, it was interesting. He kind of guess he played the anchor but he
[00:09:12] did well. Yeah, and Rahul was the impact player on this one that I found a little bit interesting
[00:09:22] because you knew from ball one that he would be out right after he finished batting so that was
[00:09:30] amusing. Also we forgot to talk about how Brevis was the impact sub in the Mumbai versus Arar game.
[00:09:38] And he got another duck on the first ball. It's just legendary. I mean talk about a user
[00:09:42] when it impacts out but no, I mean these guys were pretty pretty clinical with the bat to be
[00:09:48] honest. They won the toss and they decided to bat I think in this game and yeah put on a good
[00:09:53] total. Yeah and RCB kind of doing what RCB does best. They're chasing 181. They look to
[00:10:01] the top guys to really give them that start but nobody got off to a start even though
[00:10:04] King Kohli is in pretty good form. He only got 22 that game. Faf got 19 and Faf I just feel
[00:10:12] his very, very badly out of form. He's due for a big one. He's somehow not being able to take
[00:10:17] advantage of the power play that like he has in the previous couple of years. And again RCB
[00:10:22] is a team that just relies so heavily on their talk two or three that if they don't click
[00:10:28] or what we'll see later in this podcast if they don't score at pace, the rest of the
[00:10:33] team just crumbles around them. Now I saw an Ambatis Aidu interview or on on star sports and we asked
[00:10:40] him about why RCB is not winning. And he said the same thing you said that in the preview actually.
[00:10:47] Yeah so did I okay that's good. You were like for 16 years it's been the same.
[00:10:51] Yeah so he said for 16 years it's been the same and he went a little deeper
[00:10:55] and he said that essentially you buy the big names. You want these big names to bat from
[00:11:02] over 15 to 20 right. Whether it's padding first or chasing and then you keep shifting this order
[00:11:08] around because Koli and Faf or Koli and Gail or anyone has batted till over number 10. Now let's
[00:11:14] maximize it and then what's happening is between over 15 to 20 you've got your
[00:11:19] Rawats and Lomrors and Patizars and Dinesh Karthik to take on and soak all that pressure
[00:11:26] when all the international guys are back in the pavilion. So I that really resonated with me
[00:11:31] right. Why are you trying to bat Maxwell at three. Why are you trying to push him up the order
[00:11:36] depending on overs just give him that role. You come in when it's 15 overs you have five overs
[00:11:42] just go ballistic and get us home. I think that resonated with me a lot but other than that DJ
[00:11:48] there's nothing to write home in this except the Mayankyadav show again. Part two man.
[00:11:55] He got Rajat Pathy Dhan he got Maxwell. Maxwell had no idea what was happening.
[00:12:01] He got Gam Green and that ball to Kam Green was the best. So let's talk about Mayankyadav a little
[00:12:08] bit. I mean unbelievable right like it was kind of up to him to show it wasn't a
[00:12:17] fluke right the first man of the much performance that he put in on his debut
[00:12:22] and even his first ball I think was the ball that Faf hit and rank would sound like it was
[00:12:28] completely out of random panic and got run out. It was off of Yadav and then he just bowled
[00:12:35] and you could see Kam Green trying to like do different things. This guy just keeps hitting
[00:12:40] that length keeps hitting that line. He's tall. He's fast. I think you said he had a
[00:12:46] Prasad Krishna like action. Yeah I mean what a find and the best thing about Indian fans is like
[00:12:55] oh make sure he doesn't get injured. I mean just enjoy it. Just enjoy it. You're saying make sure
[00:13:00] you don't get injured. People are like put him in the World Cup squad immediately. But you know
[00:13:05] what that's not a bad show. I can't get it but it's been two games. What I'm saying is I
[00:13:10] hope he does go to the World Cup because raw talent like this should go. Sometimes you don't want to
[00:13:16] spend three years grooming them. You need to get harness what they have but yeah that's just the
[00:13:22] psyche. What did he bowl at 156 point something. I don't know what number he hit exactly
[00:13:31] but it was extreme pace and I think he already has the maximum number of 155 plus deliveries
[00:13:38] ever in the IPN. In just already in two games he's bold like eight overs right and
[00:13:45] what is that 56 balls. He just bold just over 50 balls and it's not even over it's 48 balls right
[00:13:54] six over the eight over this 48 balls and I mean I'm trying to think of others that have come
[00:14:00] through like that. Nasim Shah reminds me of like young 17 year old this guy's a bit older. So
[00:14:06] he's got like more work behind him. But I mean he's an outside shout for the World Cup squad. I mean
[00:14:15] I don't know whether those pitches will suit him but pace is pace man and like it's it's
[00:14:21] it's very exciting to see someone like that when he comes up as an A side the Pakistan team has
[00:14:28] been trained by the Pakistan army at this point. Have you watched those videos? Sorry we're just
[00:14:33] like all over the way all over the place. Yeah but with like rocks climbing up the mountains and
[00:14:38] yeah and I'm like these guys are cricketers man why are you making them climb and jump onto mattresses
[00:14:44] climb over ropes and like all of this stuff. If they shouldn't then feet would probably be very
[00:14:49] very messed up at the end of this exercise. Yeah anyway but anyway that's a wrap for the game it was
[00:14:56] like the Mayank Yadav showed two matches two player of the matches. Now DJ first time in the history
[00:15:01] of the IPL there was a schedule match on Wednesday but it just got skipped so I guess we also skipped
[00:15:06] covering it right. So we skipped the Wednesday original planned match and we have to go to Thursday.
[00:15:13] So is that is that right? Was there a match? Did a match happen? There was definitely not
[00:15:19] a record breaking match is all I can say. I was trying to skip this one because it was so painful.
[00:15:26] But I can't yeah KKR you love the KKR team so we've already had the tweets in from our listeners
[00:15:33] asking us to talk about the KKR versus Delhi Capital match. I'm glad that you're here to cover it
[00:15:38] with this will be fun. Oh man I mean I think you know Delhi had just defeated Chennai and I got
[00:15:45] a little bit of confidence and I'm the guy on the spotcaster said we'll count 10s but we beat
[00:15:50] confidence that also and I kind of let myself go a little bit and I was like oh are you guys nervous
[00:15:57] about tonight's game and stuff like did you send them the Russell being bowled by Rabada
[00:16:02] no I did not because not the same that some shit is going to go down and so I refrained
[00:16:08] and so basically yeah I kind of just was doing a little bit of chubby and saying are you guys
[00:16:13] nervous are you guys nervous knowing that I'm gonna get like by the way Warner's just got out so yeah
[00:16:19] in the Mumbai game yeah and and so this game starts and the game ends in like three hours because
[00:16:30] Sunil Arhaind has just found a way to take the game away in three hours DJ I don't know if you
[00:16:37] remember the score I'm trying to look for it but they made 272 I know I'm just trying to think of
[00:16:44] the power play or the the first couple of overs I mean Phil Salt got out at overs 4.3 and the score
[00:16:51] was 60 for one so these guys are going at 15 runs per over and at that point you had just lost
[00:16:59] the game because Sunil Arhaind got 85 of 39 balls with 7 4s and 7 6s I in DJ talked to us about just
[00:17:10] two things in this right one is Sunil Arhaind and the second is this guy called Ankish Raghuvanshi
[00:17:16] who I mean looked phenomenal reverse sweeping for six in his debut game for the IPL
[00:17:24] yeah I mean Sunil Arhaind is no stranger to the Delhi team he's smashed us even in his worst
[00:17:32] period with the bat he was still scoring 50 against Delhi after being promoted I don't know how that's
[00:17:37] how that works out but it does um Raghuvanshi looked pretty well put together I mean he got a
[00:17:44] what was his strike rate I'm just trying to look that through yeah he had 54 27 200
[00:17:51] strike rate very decent Narayan went casually at 217 I think he was 0 of 5 or 6 balls by the way
[00:17:59] he kept swinging the first six ball the ball kept going over his thumbs and then he's like okay let
[00:18:05] me just recalibrate and then once he recalibrated everything just went out of the park it was
[00:18:10] pretty insane to watch um his highest ever T20 score Sunil Narayan yeah and then he just
[00:18:18] just got like casual and walked off and it was okay like I mean which is which is what he is about
[00:18:24] yeah and then you but in comes under Russell then and he's like okay if you think you can hit the
[00:18:32] ball I can hit the ball even better than you he gets 14 of 19 so just fails to beat Sunil Narayan's
[00:18:39] just strike rate and it was basically like it was just carnage I mean Rinku Singh comes in at
[00:18:46] one point it looked at 325 strike radiant 26 of 8 balls yeah but at one point it looked like
[00:18:53] deli was going to and I was like okay at least it won't be a record breaking because they were
[00:18:57] looking like they're gonna end up at 230ish 240ish something like that and then Rinku
[00:19:04] goes wild and ballistic and then the 277 that has been set like a week ago looked like it was
[00:19:11] going to be in danger and I was like please don't let us be the team that has the distinction I guess
[00:19:20] of being the team against which the highest ever yeah because you know what happens is over 16 years
[00:19:27] people don't remember who's come 10th right because we've come 10th a lot but somehow
[00:19:32] people will give you come 10 they will come 9 but people remember 49 all out yeah people remember
[00:19:37] people remember who gave 277 and so I'm just really happy that it wasn't a record that yeah
[00:19:44] so this is a medium total 272 for 7 yeah so I mean there's nothing to talk about DJ
[00:19:52] no but there's no Mukesh we are playing Sumit Kumar what is that with Mukesh what is up with
[00:19:56] them why do we I don't know I don't know in Jed no Kuldeep why do we have the core Indian
[00:20:03] youngsters who are all collectively just not performing at the level of any because we are
[00:20:10] we get them we train them for two three years and then we send them somewhere else to do well
[00:20:16] we do that with the foreign players look at trend bolt but look at Quinton Dikok
[00:20:21] look at Shashank Singh who will talk about this now yet another great Delhi player
[00:20:26] we just I don't know I either some I can guarantee if Abhishek Porail goes to Mumbai
[00:20:32] he will be the next DeShankar Shal 100% yeah so there's something wrong I mean I think
[00:20:39] we're hearing about a mega auction next year I'm desperately hoping for that I think can
[00:20:43] we auction pointing off yeah I think I think everyone's talking about it I just don't want to
[00:20:48] see that bald dude at the auction ever again from Delhi capital side who I don't know his name
[00:20:55] but he's always there he's always smiling and he thinks like you know he high fives as if
[00:21:00] he's got the best deal and then comes out with this team and then of course so the one is him
[00:21:05] the second is pointing and the third is the players absolute disaster sorry but I just
[00:21:11] I don't want to distract from this but my favorite moment about this is like I wish Delhi capital
[00:21:16] someday win the IPL just to see Ganguly take off his shirt and go like he did on the Lord's
[00:21:21] balcony all those years ago Ganguly is not sticking around that well but Ganguly and
[00:21:27] pointing a sitting in the dugout what are they talking about what do you think these guys talk
[00:21:31] about I don't know because they are in their time they're the two most like prime alpha captain
[00:21:40] so can you imagine sitting outside and watching this show and then like going back what are you
[00:21:45] gonna do like are you gonna slap somebody beat somebody are you gonna give medals in the award
[00:21:51] room for you didn't get 277 so congrats I don't know yeah I mean we got 166 puns quarter 50 of which
[00:22:00] it was basically Venkatesh Iyer won over he's like Chalbhai take a formal at home
[00:22:05] 28 runs Pant got 28 runs out of his 50 runs in that one over so yeah so I don't know man just
[00:22:13] just disaster so pathetic actually that note to be honest last word pathetic before our break
[00:22:18] we're going to take a short break and come back right after this
[00:22:30] welcome back after the break we've got the next game this Thursday which is Gujarat Titans versus
[00:22:36] Punjab Kings now there's only one thing to talk about so I'll let DJ do that but let me run
[00:22:42] through it quickly Shubhman Gill 89 or 48 great I mean he was not out I was hoping he gets that 100
[00:22:49] but very very good readings from him and supported really well by Saitan Darshan like I am a fan of
[00:22:56] Sai as well both Sai and Tilak guys who really really have impressed me and then Tevatiya ends
[00:23:02] off I think Tevatiya got those last few balls which worked out well in favour of the team
[00:23:07] because he got 23 of 8 but 287 strike this Tevatiya just I don't know how he does this every year he
[00:23:14] does this in two or three games and that's the value right that's what you are holding a guy like
[00:23:19] him in the team for but DJ let's talk about the Punjab Chase so Dhawan gets out early and Dhawan
[00:23:28] is the core of that batting lineup Bear store 22 of 13 goes for it I think them this team has
[00:23:35] showed time and again that they're going to continue to go for it right they're not going to play that
[00:23:40] anchor or slow down new remat balls are beautiful delivery to get him out pub simran comes in I
[00:23:46] think pub simran has also done very well 35 of 24 Sam Karan and Raza the two international players
[00:23:52] absolute disaster and then walks out this guy called Shashank Singh DJ talk us through a little
[00:23:58] bit about Shashank Singh what happened which Shashank Singh do you want me to talk about
[00:24:02] though isn't that the main question real Shashank Singh please stand up why don't you give a quick
[00:24:06] recap on what happened in the auction what happened in the match and what's have been happening on social
[00:24:11] media after that so what ridiculously like three and a half months ago when the IPL auction took
[00:24:19] place a player called Shashank Singh came up for sale PBKS bid for him got him then the auction
[00:24:26] he had moved on somewhere else but then they raised an objection saying this is not the guy we
[00:24:31] wanted we wanted someone else and obviously the hammered come down so they were like no sorry you've
[00:24:36] got this guy then they went on to social media and clarified no this is the guy we wanted
[00:24:42] which seemed a bit kind of crap after that we didn't want this guy we wanted this other guy who
[00:24:47] was I think an all-rounder right it's like they waited for the decision and then after that
[00:24:51] they're like oh yeah yeah this is what we wanted yeah so I mean imagine going through all of that
[00:24:56] and if you read his cricket for IPL pro his profile it's actually been updated after this knock and
[00:25:02] saying it's he's best known for playing this knock 61 29 in IPL 2024 and then he describes him as a
[00:25:09] journey man that's kind of like a pretty like I don't know it's a pretty deflating thing to say
[00:25:17] about this guy we've been with the sunrise has been with Rajasthan started life in Derry dead
[00:25:22] imagine of course everybody must pass through that he's been around for a while yeah yeah yeah
[00:25:28] but of course nobody's nurtured him until now um yeah so he plays a knock from hell he did basically
[00:25:37] these guys were nowhere I think their probability of winning by win-wiz or whatever it's called
[00:25:42] a win predictor was four percent when this guy came in in the last three over then they got like
[00:25:49] I know 15 50 plus runs in the last three hours yeah I think I smashed it joined by this guy called
[00:25:55] Ashutosh Sharma who again I haven't heard of Jitesh Sharma also 16 of 8 so like I said everyone
[00:26:03] just decided to go for it right and and with Shashank Singh at the middle it just it just
[00:26:08] worked no it was great I mean it was a pretty good redemption arc right for this guy who's like
[00:26:14] maybe not going to be part of this he's now played a knock which he'll remember but we haven't seen a
[00:26:20] lot of this like to make your name like a pivot yeah who are just talking about before you have to do
[00:26:25] it over and over again we've seen him do it once let's see if we can do it again yeah I hope I mean
[00:26:30] he's definitely playing and I hope he does it again and he was really sporting man and after
[00:26:35] that on social media there's been all these jokes about kind of he's got a mark on his
[00:26:40] cheek and he's saying
[00:26:44] so that was great to see that kind of sporting spirit next game a little bit boring CSK was no
[00:26:52] this was not boring I can't believe I almost said it was boring this was oh why because it's a
[00:26:56] head about much you found it boring I looked at CSK and versus who and before I could stop myself
[00:27:02] but anyway 165 but are you wait are you going to make a public apology number two in
[00:27:09] consecutive years because I think I did it last year and ended up 10th so I'm gonna hold my horses
[00:27:18] right now okay so DJ CSK after the last match when Tony kind of blew everything away and we
[00:27:27] forgot that Delhi won everyone thought Tony has won this game Tony capitals Tony capitals they come
[00:27:35] out and kind of nobody when got going I think Shivam Dubay is the name that stood out for me 45
[00:27:41] of 24 and he's standing out more and more as these games progress as the batsman for the Chennai
[00:27:48] Super Kings but just nobody got going that Mitchell is finding it hard I thought he would
[00:27:53] be having a bumper season at the IPL I don't know if it's the kind of pitches or he's coming
[00:27:58] in later than he would like but you know I hope he picks up Tony did walk out made one of
[00:28:04] two balls and of course the crowd went crazy I think the decibel levels are so high that Pat Cummins
[00:28:09] is like talked about it after the game saying I don't think I could hear myself but yeah but he
[00:28:14] likes silencing the crowds right then at all the press consciousness that just people are like
[00:28:19] saying silence silence so I can see him laughing and I mean he did he's earned it yeah exactly
[00:28:26] so I had about the crowd Travis had 31 of 24 decent I mean this gets the start that they
[00:28:33] this innings was only about Abhishek Sharma oh man 37 of 12 it was great to watch
[00:28:41] striker of 308 he's just it was there was a point at which I thought he's going to equal the fastest
[00:28:48] ever IPL 50 he was just swinging yeah and the ball was just flying and let me just check where who
[00:28:54] did he play for a few years ago oh my god guess you want to guess don't say are you serious
[00:28:59] you want to guess Abhishek Sharma deli daddow used to be a deli daddow are you sure it's the same
[00:29:07] guy because these are Eric names right Shashank saying Abhishek Sharma he blips 46 of 19 balls and
[00:29:14] his IPL debut against RCB but spent only one season in Delhi because his training was over
[00:29:20] as we had to send him somewhere else oh my god but yeah he was delis becoming like one of
[00:29:26] the small football clubs that like send train and then you said train and send them up to like the big
[00:29:32] league terrible just terrible and so he got them after that power play start that is just hard to
[00:29:38] kind of come back from for the opposing team makram 50 of 36 very measured innings the kind
[00:29:44] of innings that you needed on this pitch they did lose a few more wickets than I was thinking
[00:29:49] and it took a longer time to get there in the 19th over but man two points is two points and
[00:29:54] I think they were very very happy with that so CSK now actually two losses on the trot and I think
[00:30:02] Ritu Ritu Raj is going to be under some pressure tomorrow because they take on KKR who have been
[00:30:07] in red hot form right let's come to the weekend game Saturday is not a double header I'm almost
[00:30:13] yeah what's happening I think there's just enough time I guess they've built in this time but
[00:30:19] I really wait for double headers and it's quite sad that there's only one now because every year
[00:30:24] it's always been kind of two double headers over two days so Saturday RCB versus RR DJ again I know
[00:30:31] where we're kind of running a little bit short on time so I'm just going to ask you two centurions
[00:30:37] in this match one got 158 the other got 100 of 67 but ended up with 113 or 72 let's talk
[00:30:47] about the Virat Kohli debate there is nobody around him supporting him yet there is a question
[00:30:55] being raised about whether the way he's batting is causing the others to to fail I don't know where I
[00:31:02] stand right now because I've been doing so much stuff I am of the opinion that I think Kohli
[00:31:07] has done a great job and the others haven't but you know let's hear your view on this
[00:31:14] it's a tough one there's no there's the two points of view are pretty simple right like one being
[00:31:19] you can't score at that rate and expect everybody else to do the heavy lifting
[00:31:24] yeah the point of view is probably nobody else is scoring any run so you need someone to hang
[00:31:28] around to do the batting for those balls and it's a classic debate that Ashwin and I had back
[00:31:34] in 2019 when India lost the work ups and he finally and I was like how can you blame Dhoni
[00:31:40] if he's the only guy hanging around that till the end when no one else has done anything and you're
[00:31:44] 5 for 3 and 25 for 4 and 91 for 6 you can't blame the guy who's actually around there doing the work
[00:31:51] that he failed to get you across the line this is kind of the batting first version of that
[00:31:56] argument where you've lost only three wickets you scored 100 and whatever 15 30 and I don't even
[00:32:03] know something over 110 it was a good knock I mean I enjoyed it because aesthetically watching King
[00:32:10] Bad is great yeah the others get 59 or 48 you've got likes of DK sitting in the dressing room
[00:32:20] because he didn't get to bat right so I don't know I mean yeah but that was their choice right like
[00:32:27] again it's you pushed Maxwell up again again Maxwell failed you brought this new guy in
[00:32:32] like you're trying too many things there's no yeah but there's no Rajat Patidar there's no Dinesh
[00:32:38] Kartik Rajat Patidar remembers called a IPL 100 he's not a joke and he was coming into form
[00:32:43] also he scored some runs in the game that they lost I mean DK's fantastic finisher and why is he
[00:32:50] batting below sort of Chahan that's what I'm saying some of the stuff doesn't make sense like
[00:32:57] you're willing to be flexible in your batting order by pushing Maxwell and Green up but then
[00:33:02] you're not doing it by pushing DK up like yeah but then if your bowling attack is fine and maybe
[00:33:07] they can try and defend it but even that's not the case right and I sent you I sent you that screenshot
[00:33:12] right restoply yesterday I'll moment Siraj my uncle other Cameron Green and him on Shushar one
[00:33:18] that is the polling lineup of RCB see but honestly also let's be honest like and it's okay RCB is
[00:33:25] losing right because then if RCB win an IPL before Delhi it'll be sad yeah it's okay we're
[00:33:31] okay to watch I RCB lose and the reels that come out of that are even better the best real by the way
[00:33:37] I'd sent it to you it's the one where they've taken the ZNMD the three guys sitting around a table
[00:33:44] and Abhay Dior they've AI'd his voice to say uh how may I pick you I'm RCB come
[00:33:49] much life day and Rithik Roshan loses it he's like what is this
[00:33:54] and then one guy goes East Alakap Namde and you know he like hits a hit a parana when he's drinking the wine
[00:34:04] and the wine also I'll put a link in the show note it's too funny actually the ZNMD RCB win listen
[00:34:14] content wide RCB is awesome you have to give it a go King Kohli wise also RCB is awesome but I
[00:34:19] was just thinking even if you combine the Delhi best players and RCB best players I still don't think
[00:34:24] they would call us as a combined team that's like it just hit me like how bad both teams are it's
[00:34:32] oh man RCB has been fairly consistent but we like the fans and we are happy with them oh man we love
[00:34:40] RCB it's just we love RCB they're also in the same bucket as RCB but the real also addresses
[00:34:47] are the biggest thing
[00:34:52] too good perfect so that's I think that's that's it because the the next game is the one that's
[00:34:58] happening as we're recording DJ very quickly Mumbai got to 234 for five they should have been
[00:35:07] wrapped up at 195 nobody like Rohit and Ishan got Ishan got them off to a great start I think both
[00:35:17] going at over 180 sky comes back in gets a duck Haridik Pandya plays at 118 I don't know what he's
[00:35:24] doing but only he knows what he's doing till like Varma now no longer the number three or four
[00:35:29] gets out early Tim David and Romario Shepherd dude firstly Tim David is a great buy for for
[00:35:38] Mumbai Indians I think he does well almost like one every every two games and he does the job that
[00:35:45] K.R.P. Polar you should do exactly he does that job which is without the bowling and the
[00:35:50] the excellent feeling but they've now talked to me about this West Indian batsman they've got who
[00:35:56] Romario under Russell just came in and Romario to split no he's played LST and Sunrises
[00:36:02] previously he's like a known guy oh yeah yeah so he bowls also but I think he took a week
[00:36:07] ago like this but maybe he has no no he wasn't but yeah I mean they he bought the bottom this
[00:36:14] season in a trade or maybe in the mini option um yeah he just came and took Nokia apart in that
[00:36:23] lot of four six four six every ball was a boundary yeah and honestly deli's bowling was just
[00:36:30] single apart from Akshar it was just the same thing just run in bowl fast get hit turn back
[00:36:38] run in bowl fast get hit turn back Akshar was the only spinner right like because Kuldeep had a
[00:36:44] was that a groin strain I know you're making some jokes about this earlier me
[00:36:49] that he had too much spare time stiffness in the groin
[00:36:55] they say keep it clean man yeah he did have stiffness in the groin I think I'm saying or you're
[00:37:01] saying no friend okay no but it was just a single pace bowling attack uh yeah I'm just looking at it
[00:37:08] Lalli the other bold one over and that's not the same class as Kuldeep right so it was Khalil
[00:37:14] Ishaanth who looks Ishaanth looks done he bowled that great yorker to Russell when they were like
[00:37:21] 300 for one or whatever but he just bowled that yorker just dropped the ball and left
[00:37:28] but he's been bowling since 2008 it's done he's been bowling as long as I've been working
[00:37:35] longer than I've been working that's crazy I was in college when Ishaan Selma was bowling to Vicky
[00:37:42] Jan 2008 I started my first job in September 2008 I've been working in this job for the last 16 years
[00:37:50] Ishaan Selma is still playing so but then we got Jai Richard the great Jai
[00:37:57] Joe Jai and Jai just a team of too much good and has been already average has been
[00:38:09] Wow I am uh I've surprisingly we've covered quite a lot of games in the in the 40 minutes
[00:38:15] do you want to take us away with the with the end and then we can look forward to kind of next
[00:38:20] week show where I think Ashur will be back and we'll be coming next week's IPL yeah of course
[00:38:25] guys also don't forget the surf excel India contest which is send in your picture review
[00:38:32] in a jersey with the hashtag Sukha Dag out that contest will run for another couple of weeks
[00:38:37] so make sure you're standing in those pictures on Instagram at surf excel India and one tip one
[00:38:43] hand so make sure you send those in to standard chance of winning some cricket equipment and
[00:38:49] some surf excel liquid the supply of the detergent so yeah a couple more weeks of that to go um
[00:38:59] yeah now that's why I was saying keep it clean right so we've got a squeaky clean image we just
[00:39:04] need to maintain that perfect that was that was great timing after what we just discussed before
[00:39:10] the end of this show but that's it this week thank you DJ for joining me and thank you everyone for
[00:39:15] listening we'll see you next week
