[00:00:30] We talked about Dhoni and we said we'll talk more about him during that epic CSK vs. MI
[00:00:37] game, but then we didn't actually end up talking about him.
[00:00:39] And I don't know, DJ, I just feel like we've been talking so much about him for the last
[00:00:43] three weeks that that's all every episode is.
[00:00:46] So I'm really surprised that Ashwin and I missed that.
[00:00:49] But hey, it was a game that Chennai won by 20 runs and MS Dhoni scored 20 of
[00:00:56] four balls.
[00:00:58] It's been over a week since that game and yet we still managed to find ourselves talking
[00:01:02] about that.
[00:01:03] Yeah, the 20 of four, the strike rate of 500.
[00:01:06] Of course, Ashwin was the host, so we've had to kick him and I've replaced him on
[00:01:10] the show as the host for this week.
[00:01:12] No, just kidding.
[00:01:13] Ashwin is on the move.
[00:01:14] So yeah, we also said that when the three of us get together next, we are going
[00:01:19] to announce our own World Cup teams.
[00:01:22] But I am a bit concerned that that may not happen because the latest I've heard
[00:01:27] is that Ajitha Garkar is going to announce it on 27th or 28th April.
[00:01:32] So that might be hard, but since I have it written, I am happy to share mine at
[00:01:37] the end of this episode.
[00:01:39] Is it?
[00:01:39] You can and you can agree and disagree.
[00:01:41] I can agree and disagree, but welcome to the show, guys.
[00:01:45] We're going to run through what's gone on in the last week.
[00:01:47] The best of social media, the best of cricket.
[00:01:49] We'll try and do the highlights because it's a little bit boring if you go
[00:01:52] through ball by ball, because you guys have already probably watched the game.
[00:01:55] So there's no point doing that.
[00:01:57] We'll talk about the big moments of the week.
[00:01:59] We'll talk about that Kohli no ball.
[00:02:01] We'll talk about Dinesh Karthik wanting to get on that plane to, to, to the
[00:02:07] US we will talk about Pakistan is playing a series against New Zealand.
[00:02:12] We will not be talking about that because that's fourth or fifth string
[00:02:16] New Zealand side still beating Pakistan, which is pretty amusing.
[00:02:20] But Varun you've been a Sunrisers, has about fan for a long time.
[00:02:24] Let's talk about the Monday game, right?
[00:02:25] Sunrise is Hyderabad versus RCB at the Chinnaswamy.
[00:02:31] What happened there?
[00:02:31] 283 for 287 for three place 262 for seven.
[00:02:37] Man, it's true that it's just so amazing that RCB gets the highest
[00:02:44] score in the IPL against them and has the lowest score in the IPL for them.
[00:02:48] It's just very, very sad, man.
[00:02:52] I don't know what to say.
[00:02:53] It's 287 for three.
[00:02:55] I mean, Travis had 102 of...
[00:02:57] Who's Travis had Varun?
[00:02:59] I don't know.
[00:03:00] This seems quite good this guy.
[00:03:01] Seems pretty good.
[00:03:03] He loves these blue teams.
[00:03:04] That's at least that's what the crowds on social media are doing.
[00:03:07] That every time a team in blue comes in front of him, he kind
[00:03:09] of is like a raging bull, but yeah man, 102 of 41 you almost miss
[00:03:16] Abhishek Sharma and all these games.
[00:03:19] So like, I mean, this obviously this show is not about the cricket.
[00:03:24] It's more about what went on outside the cricket.
[00:03:26] Did you see Travis had the celebration at the Chinnaswamy?
[00:03:29] Yeah.
[00:03:30] What was that?
[00:03:30] It was the Gale celebration.
[00:03:32] That's the Chris Gale celebration.
[00:03:34] But was that on purpose for Gale because it was at his
[00:03:37] ground or something like that?
[00:03:39] It has to be right.
[00:03:40] What a power move dude.
[00:03:41] He hung his hands on his back.
[00:03:43] Just this unassuming guy who just comes out and like with Gale,
[00:03:47] you kind of look at Gale and expect that that's what's going to happen.
[00:03:50] With Travis had, I saw meme yesterday that said he looks like the
[00:03:55] team gonna Lagan guy, right?
[00:03:57] Like he looks like he could have started Lagan.
[00:04:01] Yeah.
[00:04:01] It was, it was, it was pretty, it was pretty good.
[00:04:04] Um, that, that little, uh, celebration, but, uh, Travis had
[00:04:08] gets 102 classed, but I mean,
[00:04:15] number one, 20 better in the world.
[00:04:17] I think so.
[00:04:18] I mean, he can bat at seven.
[00:04:19] He can read it five.
[00:04:20] He can read it three.
[00:04:22] I think teams are just happy.
[00:04:23] He's not opening right now because this was carnage man.
[00:04:27] Like, do you realize what hitting 287 means?
[00:04:30] It means that like the days of touching 320 in a 20
[00:04:33] over game are not that far off.
[00:04:35] And DJ, do you remember how much Australia scored in the ODI?
[00:04:39] How much India scored in the ODI final?
[00:04:40] Like two 60 ish.
[00:04:43] 240 something.
[00:04:44] 240 something.
[00:04:45] What I'm thinking in 50 of us teams are not able to manage that.
[00:04:48] And in 20 of us, these guys are close touching 300.
[00:04:51] And I think Travis had said, I want to see a three in front of the score.
[00:04:55] So he's just got this single-minded approach and I think he can deliver.
[00:04:59] And what better place to play than the Chinnaswamy man?
[00:05:02] Like, I know, I know we're not going to run through everything,
[00:05:05] but the only thing I have to call out is that while they did a fantastic job,
[00:05:10] I mean, RCB got within 20 runs of that, right?
[00:05:13] They lost by 25.
[00:05:15] So there is something about that ground.
[00:05:20] It's almost funny when you think about it, right?
[00:05:22] At 287, you should be winning by the 100 runs.
[00:05:25] At 287, you should not be panicking that we're just about winning by 25.
[00:05:30] And look, Kohli and Pfaff started off well, they do their best.
[00:05:34] Maximum they can go at is 200.
[00:05:36] But Dinesh Karthik, man, we have to talk about him in that flight.
[00:05:41] Dinesh Karthik hit 83 of 35 balls with some monstrous hits,
[00:05:46] like I think out of the ground type of sixes.
[00:05:49] What's going on?
[00:05:50] Like from the time we started discussing Dinesh Karthik as a joke
[00:05:54] going to the World Cup to today, it's people have gotten a lot more serious about it.
[00:05:59] Dinesh Karthik has said, I am ready for that flight.
[00:06:03] What is going on?
[00:06:04] Do you think there is any chance that he's actually going to make it?
[00:06:08] So to be totally honest with you, I thought he had retired from cricket
[00:06:13] and had become a full time commentator because before this IPL,
[00:06:15] he said it's going to be my last IPL.
[00:06:18] And I thought that meant he'd retired from T20 cricket altogether
[00:06:21] because seriously after the 22 World Cup and his performance in that
[00:06:27] tournament, I just thought this is the end of the road for him.
[00:06:30] But he comes out, plays these blazing knocks.
[00:06:33] It was absolutely unbelievable
[00:06:37] that 83 that he got.
[00:06:40] Yeah, but I mean, the big story, Varun is the public apology
[00:06:43] number three that you're going to have to issue to the Sunrisers fans, right?
[00:06:46] Like they have now broken the record for the highest
[00:06:50] score batting first three times in the same season.
[00:06:55] So 263 was the RCB score.
[00:06:59] They've now broken that three times in less than half a season.
[00:07:03] What is going on there?
[00:07:04] What has changed? What has shifted?
[00:07:06] I mean, they're just going all out.
[00:07:07] I don't even think it's about like we'll pick the balls to hit.
[00:07:11] It's just I know there's a game later against Delhi,
[00:07:15] and I think there were 105 or 125, if I'm not mistaken,
[00:07:20] 125 in the power play at the end of six overs in that game.
[00:07:24] And we'll talk about that.
[00:07:25] I mean, since we're talking Sunrisers, let's just talk about it now.
[00:07:29] It is ridiculous kind of batting.
[00:07:32] Once again, Travis had scored there, but Abhishek Sharma.
[00:07:36] That guy.
[00:07:37] Yeah, I mean, Travis had a ugly head again.
[00:07:41] Travis had went to 278.
[00:07:44] Abhishek Sharma went to 383.
[00:07:47] Like, what are we talking about?
[00:07:48] There was just like I said,
[00:07:51] there's only three only because he got out on the 13th ball.
[00:07:55] Yeah. And again, I know we're jumping on a little bit,
[00:07:57] but I said this when SRH is playing like this,
[00:08:00] like Pant should not have got them to bat first
[00:08:04] because in 2.3 overs, I remember texting you guys and saying the match is finished.
[00:08:10] 2.3 overs, the match was done.
[00:08:13] And you've just killed yourself out of it anyway.
[00:08:16] Now we come to the Pant match, the second match.
[00:08:19] I mean, of course, we got pretty basically slaughtered in that in that game.
[00:08:24] 125 in six overs.
[00:08:25] But the next game as well on the Tuesday game,
[00:08:28] Kolkata Knight Riders versus Rajasthan Dollars at Keaton Gardens.
[00:08:32] Again, KKR put together two, two, three
[00:08:36] and Rajasthan Royals chased that down for a record breaking chase.
[00:08:40] What is happening?
[00:08:42] 220 plus totals now being chased at the Eden Gardens.
[00:08:46] Sunil Narayan scored a hundred.
[00:08:48] I mean, are we in like the Twilight Zone, man?
[00:08:52] He scored a hundred and nine fifty six balls,
[00:08:55] but it was undone for the second time in the season by Joss Butler hundred.
[00:09:01] Joss Butler had undone a Kohli hundred the last time
[00:09:04] to win the game for Rajasthan Royals.
[00:09:07] Is Joss the boss back?
[00:09:10] I mean, the best thing about Joss the boss is that he brings himself back.
[00:09:15] I think that is what everyone needs to learn.
[00:09:18] Like you can see that when Joss Butler starts some of these tournaments,
[00:09:23] he doesn't look like he's in the best group.
[00:09:25] He doesn't have that momentum.
[00:09:26] His shots are not free flowing.
[00:09:28] But he's also realized that I'm good enough to just play out seven, eight,
[00:09:32] nine overs and I'll get that back.
[00:09:34] I mean, his acceleration in this innings, they were down and out, man.
[00:09:38] I think this quick win or win, whatever this predictor thing is called.
[00:09:43] Win-Wiz.
[00:09:44] Win-Wiz or something.
[00:09:46] I think it must have been like five, 10 percent.
[00:09:48] And as this Butler innings progressed, I think it just went off the charts.
[00:09:53] He he just did a phenomenal job.
[00:09:56] And talking about celebrations at the end, he kind of just threw his bat.
[00:10:00] Did you did you see the common factor though in some of these wins?
[00:10:04] These epic last ball wins is that Avesh Khan is always on the other end.
[00:10:08] And he's like walking through the crowd like the Rajasthan
[00:10:16] Royal Brazil like this.
[00:10:17] He's at zero of one in that LSD game and he's at zero zero here.
[00:10:21] Yeah, but but I mean, for me,
[00:10:25] the thing is, it's very interesting because this innings, right?
[00:10:28] It made me realize that in T20, I think there's two innings.
[00:10:30] There's two types of games you play.
[00:10:32] One is where everyone goes at 200 strike rate and it makes 30 odd.
[00:10:36] The second is you have got one one guy like Joss Butler, who's made the 100.
[00:10:40] But without Rian Parag and Ravman Powell, it wouldn't have been possible.
[00:10:45] So I need to call them out, man.
[00:10:47] Parag hit 34 of 14 balls through the middle overs,
[00:10:52] which allowed Joss to have zero pressure and continue to just take singles
[00:10:56] and doubles during that time.
[00:10:57] I thought that was game changing.
[00:10:59] Yeah, that's a that's a good call out, actually, because like in the final analysis,
[00:11:04] it looks good.
[00:11:05] But in the middle of the innings,
[00:11:06] Joss Butler was like part of the Tuk Tuk Academy, which is a great
[00:11:10] handle on Twitter if you guys follow, follow them.
[00:11:14] We give them a follow. It's pretty funny.
[00:11:17] But yeah, that Rajasthan Rolls one by two wickets,
[00:11:20] apparently statistically the best knock of the 2024 IPL,
[00:11:26] according to Crickin 4's, I don't know, impact.
[00:11:31] In whatever, I don't know.
[00:11:34] Whatever. Next game,
[00:11:37] Gujju Titans versus DC.
[00:11:40] 89 all out, plays 92 for four.
[00:11:44] Tell me more about this match.
[00:11:47] What? Yeah, totally.
[00:11:49] Totally unexpected.
[00:11:50] But man, I have to call it out saying this was the game that dropped Nokia.
[00:11:55] And usually Nokia gives 89 runs in his four overs.
[00:12:00] So without him, the team managed to get like them 89 all out.
[00:12:05] I thought it was a it was a great performance.
[00:12:08] Now, the thing about GT is, you know, your David Miller and Tevati are guys
[00:12:12] who I think are dangerous.
[00:12:14] Somehow in the first innings, I think they're not as dangerous.
[00:12:18] And so I think we just kind of capitalized on that.
[00:12:20] They were really that those apart from Rashid Khan, who had 31 of 24,
[00:12:24] there was nothing to write home about.
[00:12:26] But the Indian bowlers for DC really stood up, man,
[00:12:30] whether it was Khalil's economy, whether Ishan picked up to Mukesh 3.
[00:12:35] I mean, a testament to the Delhi bowlers that Kuldeep Yadav
[00:12:38] didn't pick up a wicket and still they got them 89 all out.
[00:12:41] So I think that was the highlight for me.
[00:12:44] But.
[00:12:45] Bigger thing is Delhi came out just swinging at it, right?
[00:12:49] And this guy, Jake Fraser McGurk, he looks the part.
[00:12:53] He looks like he's a T20 batsman and everyone just went at this 200 strike
[00:13:00] rate, got it done in 8.5 overs.
[00:13:02] And I think the net trend rate really jumped after that KKR loss.
[00:13:06] So, you know, while Delhi is not in the mix of things, I think
[00:13:11] it's helping respectable.
[00:13:13] I it's helping Delhi put themselves in a respectable position because
[00:13:16] they, I think if they come seventh or so.
[00:13:18] We are the top of the franchise's 8-9-10, which is RCB, Punjab and Delhi.
[00:13:25] But yeah, but the funny thing is it's always these three, man.
[00:13:29] It's like we should have a discussion with Ashwin later.
[00:13:31] Sometimes just why is it always these three?
[00:13:34] The players come and go.
[00:13:35] There's something deep rooted.
[00:13:37] Yeah, it's pretty poor.
[00:13:39] Uh, okay.
[00:13:40] Mumbai Indians versus Punjab Kings.
[00:13:42] Now Mumbai Indians won this game by nine runs, but Jaspreet Bumrah.
[00:13:49] Three out of two.
[00:13:49] I don't know why I'm doing the weird accents.
[00:13:52] I think Danny has come back by the way.
[00:13:55] That it has to be it.
[00:13:57] Cause in the start of the IPL, it's Danny Jake, Jazzy B.
[00:14:03] Um, it used to be, it has to be the Danny Morrison factor.
[00:14:06] Yeah.
[00:14:06] So, uh, Surya.
[00:14:08] Back in form.
[00:14:09] I think it was his second game.
[00:14:11] Got 78 in this game.
[00:14:13] Um, uh, Harshal, Parpal, Jankal, whatever you want to call him picked up three.
[00:14:19] I think he's top of the one of the top.
[00:14:21] I think he's tied with Dumbra right now at 13 records.
[00:14:25] Right, hilarious.
[00:14:28] Uh, but yeah, Punjab Kings started to 183 chasing 192 for seven.
[00:14:33] Um, Shashank Singh again, tried his best to get them across.
[00:14:37] Ashutosh Sharma, his partner in crime, I guess also got 61 of 28.
[00:14:44] Just short, right?
[00:14:45] And it was pretty exciting towards the end.
[00:14:47] Like it was, dude, it could have gone.
[00:14:49] These two guys, man, Ashutosh and Shashank.
[00:14:52] They're just, it's not a fluke anymore.
[00:14:55] It's just not these guys are good and they're making a case to
[00:14:59] bad up the order really.
[00:15:00] I think I said this last time also, but it is not a fluke anymore.
[00:15:05] Tell me more about Sam Karan man.
[00:15:07] He's like, uh, decided to open the batting.
[00:15:10] I think it's trying to the Manoj Prabhakar route, right?
[00:15:15] Open the batting, open the bowling.
[00:15:18] Actually Manoj Prabhakar is going to be Norkeia by the end of it.
[00:15:21] Cause he's going to be bowling off spin at the court.
[00:15:23] That's the end of that Norkeia love story for DC.
[00:15:26] I feel seriously, but I don't know.
[00:15:29] I just get the feeling Sam Karan is trying too hard.
[00:15:31] Like you can't be doing everything all the time, right?
[00:15:36] I something it doesn't, it doesn't add up.
[00:15:38] You've got Riley Ross.
[00:15:39] So they're just, it's not adding up the Sam Karan move is
[00:15:43] not making any sense to me.
[00:15:44] Hmm.
[00:15:46] Okay.
[00:15:46] Uh, yeah.
[00:15:47] So Mumbai Indians got on, uh, got, got another win under their,
[00:15:51] their belts pretty good.
[00:15:52] Not much more to talk about that game, I guess.
[00:15:55] Um, Chennai was an LSG.
[00:15:59] Chennai, uh, this was in Lucknow at the Akana.
[00:16:03] Uh, tell me about KL Rahul man.
[00:16:07] He gets 82 of 53 balls.
[00:16:10] Uh, the Chennai innings kind of went nowhere.
[00:16:12] Jadeja got 57 of 40.
[00:16:15] But Mohing got 30 of 20.
[00:16:17] Oh, sorry.
[00:16:18] Again, we can't, I mean, there was one man that struck at 311
[00:16:24] in this game as well.
[00:16:26] It's getting old now.
[00:16:27] That's what I'm saying.
[00:16:27] It's just getting old.
[00:16:29] No, but his strike rate fell now from the last one.
[00:16:31] It fell from 500 to 311.1.
[00:16:34] One.
[00:16:34] It was a huge drop.
[00:16:36] I mean, 40% drop is very disappointing, but I mean, he
[00:16:41] was again, just smoking it, but you're right.
[00:16:43] There's nothing happened.
[00:16:45] And I think Rachin Ravindra is having, having a disastrous tournament.
[00:16:49] Like he showed promise in the first game.
[00:16:51] Second game was decent.
[00:16:53] But after that, he's just had a string of zeros, ones, fives, tens.
[00:16:59] And I think that is causing a lot of the issue because if you remember
[00:17:04] historically CSK has always had the openers do well.
[00:17:09] And I think that to me, that's the, that's the tough area.
[00:17:12] So 176 with Dhoni behind the stumps, not bad, but clearly
[00:17:18] this was not a 170 pitch.
[00:17:21] Fair enough.
[00:17:22] Fair enough.
[00:17:22] Okay.
[00:17:23] Maybe we should take a quick break before we come back and talk about
[00:17:25] the rest of the games of the week.
[00:17:28] Mumbai Indians currently struggling at 76 for four and 10.3 overs.
[00:17:32] So don't go anywhere.
[00:17:33] This is the Edges and Sledges Cricket podcast.
[00:17:35] We will be back after this break.
[00:17:45] Okay.
[00:17:46] Welcome back from that break.
[00:17:47] And you're still listening to the Edges and Sledges Cricket podcast.
[00:17:51] I hope you've taken that break to write us a review, give us a rating,
[00:17:55] give us a like, give us a subscribe if you're watching this on YouTube
[00:17:57] because it helps grow the show.
[00:18:00] But we've talked about the Chennai Super Kings versus
[00:18:06] Lucknow Super Giants game.
[00:18:08] Then came the Saturday game and now there's only one game
[00:18:11] on Saturday these days.
[00:18:12] So, I mean, in unusual circumstances, I would have kind of looked
[00:18:16] forward to this game quite a lot.
[00:18:18] This is the one we were talking about was 125 and six overs when
[00:18:22] Delhi won the toss and decided to field at what was basically
[00:18:25] a postage stamp of ground at the court.
[00:18:28] I mean, frankly ridiculous size boundaries and...
[00:18:31] And it was a road, okay?
[00:18:33] It looked like a road, the pitch.
[00:18:35] And that's something it was such a terrible decision.
[00:18:39] Like you, you know, I, again, I know I say this on the show a lot,
[00:18:43] but at that point I messaged some friends saying this was
[00:18:46] a wrong decision if Delhi batted first and if Kuldeep picks up two
[00:18:53] quick wickets, you're going to put the pressure because if you
[00:18:55] get 220, the pressure is going to be on SRH.
[00:18:58] And lo and behold, after that power play, Kuldeep picks up two,
[00:19:02] Akshar chokes them with the runs.
[00:19:04] And I think between seven and 10, they really couldn't get going.
[00:19:07] Right?
[00:19:08] And such a tactically incorrect decision.
[00:19:12] It's not one person who takes these calls, but you should know
[00:19:17] what the SRH team is doing and you should have taken your decision
[00:19:19] accordingly because like I said, Travis had went ballistic, but
[00:19:23] Abhishek Sharma was the story for me in that game.
[00:19:26] 383, I don't think he missed a single ball.
[00:19:29] Like I think literally he played 12 balls and he got out on one.
[00:19:33] So out of nine balls, he hit eight, 11 balls, he hit eight boundaries.
[00:19:39] Six sixes and two fours.
[00:19:41] It was just ridiculous.
[00:19:43] I mean, Markram looks like an outlier in this team.
[00:19:46] Like he should really be hiding his face because he just bats at a
[00:19:50] cool calm collected 130, 140 and it's really poor, but DJ the
[00:19:56] thing is Shahbaz Ahmadiyar, the guy has batted and batted and batted
[00:20:00] for RCB, but this game, I think his innings made a difference
[00:20:05] because when you look at how Delhi progressed in the innings, which
[00:20:08] we'll talk about, you will see that the 59 of 29 by Shahbaz was a big difference.
[00:20:14] Yeah, but the game, as you said, was lost in the first six overs.
[00:20:17] I recall between 125 runs in six over and expect to win.
[00:20:21] And of course it was an ex-Delhi player that did it to us because
[00:20:24] remember Travis had used to be a Delhi guy and an RCB guy actually
[00:20:28] back in the day.
[00:20:29] So plus do you know who used to play for Delhi?
[00:20:31] Abhishek Sharma.
[00:20:34] Yes.
[00:20:34] So we continue our role as an export of talent.
[00:20:38] Everyone has played for Delhi.
[00:20:41] And everyone has done well after they've left Delhi, but anyway.
[00:20:45] So the story in the Delhi innings chasing what was not a record
[00:20:49] score, thankfully.
[00:20:50] So Delhi has twice avoided giving away a record score, but it must be
[00:20:56] the first time that someone has conceded more than 250 in season twice.
[00:21:02] Ridiculous, frankly.
[00:21:03] I mean, their bowling has been atrocious other than Kuldeep, who
[00:21:06] does actually, as you say, good to see him come back from like getting
[00:21:08] a bit of tap in his first away one for 20.
[00:21:10] And they picked up those four wickets would put a little bit of breaks
[00:21:13] because I think the projected score at one point on this game,
[00:21:16] one was 470.
[00:21:18] Yeah, I thought this was 350 for sure.
[00:21:21] I mean, projected aside, I thought this was 350 for sure.
[00:21:25] But the story here is Jake Fraser McGurk, right?
[00:21:29] Small ground just kept swinging.
[00:21:32] So I'm not sure he's going to be that good on a turning track because
[00:21:36] he swings pretty hard, kind of hard hands, but he was effective there.
[00:21:43] For a brief, slightly surreal 30 minute period, it felt like Delhi
[00:21:48] might be on track to chase it.
[00:21:52] But I had a few issues with the way they're batting or unfold.
[00:21:55] I mean, why are you sending Abhishek Porel at four when you have
[00:21:57] Rishabh Panth?
[00:21:58] Yes, you want left right send Panth out.
[00:22:00] Don't send Porel out.
[00:22:01] And then I mean, Panth coming into bat at six.
[00:22:06] He played poor innings in the context, very, very very struggled,
[00:22:11] struggled to get the ball of the square.
[00:22:12] So what did Tristan Stubbs, which is weird because those two guys
[00:22:15] have been doing well.
[00:22:16] What Lalit Yadav is doing in this IPL, I have no idea.
[00:22:20] Akshat Patel, he's lost form completely.
[00:22:24] Andric Naukia is going to, I'm sure not be retained for the
[00:22:27] next time round because it's just not working.
[00:22:29] He was fine in the Middle East.
[00:22:31] I mean, Kuldeep fine, Mukesh fine, but like this is a team
[00:22:34] that's in complete transition and without David Warner firing
[00:22:38] at the top of that order, it's not going to be great.
[00:22:42] In fact, they may even go and retain someone like Jake
[00:22:45] because that would make sense to me.
[00:22:47] Because the game is changing, right?
[00:22:49] So two comments on what you said.
[00:22:51] The first, the game is changing.
[00:22:53] I think you can afford to have a Jake, of Jake Frazier McGurk
[00:22:57] in your team and tell him your role is only to play six overs
[00:23:00] because the damage you can cause in those six overs is enough.
[00:23:04] In fact, you're right.
[00:23:06] Maybe he can't play the turning tracks, the spinning bowlers
[00:23:09] and maybe he doesn't have to.
[00:23:11] All you need to do is play the first six.
[00:23:13] So I'm in favor of bringing in specialists like this
[00:23:16] and I think he should be retained.
[00:23:18] But yes, I think Pant, like I saw him, it was atrocious.
[00:23:22] He was playing and missing, couldn't connect back to ball.
[00:23:25] That's not the Pant we saw at the start of the tournament.
[00:23:28] That is, however, the Pant we have seen in T20s previously.
[00:23:32] And I think it comes down to again,
[00:23:35] I don't think he knows where to bat.
[00:23:38] I don't think Pant is the finisher role.
[00:23:41] I think Pant needs to come earlier.
[00:23:43] So you're spot on.
[00:23:44] I would have played him at four as well.
[00:23:47] Well, SRH won by 67 runs yet again, nailing Verun's coffin,
[00:23:53] another nail in your coffin.
[00:23:56] And they went to, I think number two or three in the table.
[00:23:58] Pretty decent outcome.
[00:24:01] Then came the first game on Sunday, which I found incredible.
[00:24:05] I mean, again, I think it's the best game so far.
[00:24:09] Eden Gardens again, Kolkata Nitriders versus RCB.
[00:24:12] Now we were expecting Narayan to tee off, right?
[00:24:16] And they clearly came up with a plan.
[00:24:18] RCB in their green, no pun on Cameron,
[00:24:21] but wearing the green jersey.
[00:24:26] Bold really well to Narayan.
[00:24:28] So he didn't get off to a flyer like he usually does.
[00:24:31] But I mean, Phil Salt or Salt Filman,
[00:24:35] as he used to like to call him when he used to play for,
[00:24:38] which franchise, Verun?
[00:24:39] Telecapitals.
[00:24:41] Until when? Last year?
[00:24:42] Oof, pathetic.
[00:24:47] 48-14 at one point he looked like he was going to break the record
[00:24:50] for the fastest 15 in the IPL ever.
[00:24:53] Just took Loki for this in the past.
[00:24:55] 28 runs in and over, man.
[00:24:58] But this is what I was saying.
[00:24:59] You're going at 340.
[00:25:00] This is not new anymore.
[00:25:03] Just this IPL we've seen it happen seven, eight times.
[00:25:06] There is a role for people like this.
[00:25:09] Unbelievable.
[00:25:10] And you know what?
[00:25:11] The other interesting thing was the kick didn't come from
[00:25:14] under Russell, he played 20 balls.
[00:25:16] Usually when under Russell plays 20 balls, he's on 60.
[00:25:18] He got 27, not out.
[00:25:21] Ramandeep!
[00:25:22] Ramandeep Singh gets 24 of 9.
[00:25:25] I don't know what's wrong with me.
[00:25:27] Why did you just channel your inner Danny?
[00:25:29] I have no idea what's going on.
[00:25:31] But Ramandeep gets 24 of 9 and a good thing he got those 24 of 9.
[00:25:37] He took the RCB, the KKR to 222 for 6.
[00:25:41] Nothing to write home about for the bowlers and RCB.
[00:25:43] I mean Siraj went for 40.
[00:25:46] Yesh Dayal went for 56.
[00:25:48] Loki went for 47, which is not a bad comeback after going
[00:25:52] 28 on the first over.
[00:25:53] I feel like you know what happened?
[00:25:55] They prepared for the syllabus of Narayan and Russell
[00:25:59] and they did very well and then they didn't prepare for all these other guys.
[00:26:03] So it was like job done in the theory room
[00:26:08] but after that it was just everyone else they couldn't figure it out.
[00:26:12] Amazing.
[00:26:13] So but then 2-2-1, right?
[00:26:15] You saw Phil Jack.
[00:26:17] He's not Jack, he's Jax.
[00:26:18] Phil Jax.
[00:26:19] Will Jax.
[00:26:20] Will Jax.
[00:26:22] Phil Salt and Will Jax.
[00:26:25] He got 55.
[00:26:26] Fast duplessis, wretched season continued 7 of 7.
[00:26:29] Goalie!
[00:26:30] You should talk about Goalie.
[00:26:32] I mean he was looking good.
[00:26:34] Goalie got out fine.
[00:26:36] Yeah he got fine so he was looking good and then Harshit Rana comes in
[00:26:41] and there is no way I'm going to believe that ball was on purpose.
[00:26:44] I feel like he was bold this beamer except it was a slower ball
[00:26:50] and Goalie was out of his crease.
[00:26:54] So the thing is Goalie was a little bit out of his crease
[00:26:58] and where he took the ball was ahead of him as well
[00:27:02] and so where he played the ball it was above his waist
[00:27:06] and the ball kind of just slower ball beamer popped back and Harshit Rana
[00:27:10] caught it.
[00:27:11] Now it was dipping but where it hit him it was above his waist
[00:27:15] where the trajectory showed it said that if he was at the crease
[00:27:20] it would have been below his waist and Goalie it was I mean it was also fun to see Goalie
[00:27:25] that angry right the goalie from 2011 to 2016 but 50% fine.
[00:27:30] 50% fine he was angry he couldn't believe it
[00:27:35] the rule is debatable but as per the game he was out it's just that
[00:27:39] yeah this Harshit Rana guy like just it just irritates me.
[00:27:43] He gets under your skin but that's good maybe it's good.
[00:27:46] I think Gambhir just knows how to train these guys who can get up.
[00:27:50] No no but Gambhir and Kohli there was some flipping about them talking about
[00:27:54] the dismissal in the World Cup final and like lot of love and Gambhir's
[00:27:59] PR has gone major overtime boss.
[00:28:02] Kohli love and he's getting all the eyeballs because the camera is always on Kohli
[00:28:07] and so but I think so the reason why it was not a no ball is all these guys have been
[00:28:12] measured before the tournament and there's now technology which says that if you're standing
[00:28:15] at your crease this and the ball has come at this height that's the end like it's
[00:28:23] anymore it's not a measurement to your waist what the height is to your waist
[00:28:30] so every batter has had this measured for them so it's a purely objective
[00:28:36] um determination interestingly you could see Kohli later in the game after the game was over
[00:28:42] talking to the umpires and he was like I'm crouched down what have you measured it against
[00:28:46] am i crouching down am i standing totally straight up what is going on so uh but 50% fine
[00:28:52] also what is with all these marquee players having fights in the IPL we've seen with
[00:28:57] umpiring we've seen Dhoni come onto the field we've seen Rishabh Pant call his players
[00:29:02] off the field almost we've now seen Kohli have a massive go at the umpires
[00:29:08] is this acceptable behavior I mean the whole country is watching this it's like
[00:29:14] like whatever Sunday evening entertainment right yeah I don't think it's acceptable but
[00:29:20] it's interesting I think in all these cases you mentioned these guys have lost
[00:29:24] so it is clearly the the the the losing side of things interestingly CSK won the game
[00:29:32] that Dhoni came out onto the field with he just smacked Stokes right don't you remember
[00:29:37] yeah he fell to the ground but did Dhoni's walking on the field help the decision no no
[00:29:45] it didn't change the decision but umpire decision final decision that's what we taught
[00:29:50] in school wonderful and no but this was I mean not to distract from the innings but this was
[00:29:58] a weird inning you got Jax and Rappa got 55 no Jax got 55 Rappa got 52 uh then there was like
[00:30:08] not much at the end other than what is he four five time champion current Sharma
[00:30:14] I definitely won the IPF so many times he's definitely won three four times I don't know
[00:30:20] yeah that's even three different teams yeah unbelievable but he walks out strolls out and
[00:30:27] I had him in my fantasy team I was like no way you're gonna do anything are you serious
[00:30:30] he goes 20 of seven gets out to a screamer of a catch from Mitch Stark who I don't know
[00:30:38] what his like averages for how many dollars he gets paid for each weekend it's ridiculous
[00:30:47] but he saves it and then there's like this last moment horrible throw from the outfield from
[00:30:55] who was the fielder that threw it in man is it Rinku? Rinku threw it right?
[00:31:00] let me check uh Ramandeep Singh oh Ramandeep Singh not Rinku Singh uh throws it in and then
[00:31:07] Phil Salt dives like Josh Butler breaks the stumps and the game's over and it's not a super
[00:31:15] over and and RCB have lost by one run yet again it's and and have now been officially
[00:31:21] eliminated from the IPL just over halfway past the league stage which is insane very sad man
[00:31:27] very sad you don't feel for them I mean it's not like Delhi is going to do any better so
[00:31:31] you should feel for us also but yeah yeah we do but I think I don't know RCB just it's
[00:31:37] it's a tough one man they they're not good enough yet they they deserve to win this game
[00:31:42] like Karan Sharma deserved to win this he hit a world-class Australian bowler for three
[00:31:47] sixes when everything was against him and they still lost the game I I think in this case I
[00:31:54] think DK just one or two blows away he just didn't get going man it was it was tough to
[00:32:01] see him in the sense that he didn't play badly but you knew that if two blows from DK and this
[00:32:06] game would have been over so kudos to them for getting so close I think KKR fans were really
[00:32:12] really panicking in that last over but it made it made for a great game of cricket but
[00:32:18] it's just very sad for us and I think particularly after the women won the trophy
[00:32:23] right yeah I really think celebrations then so I really think RCB just needs to let everyone
[00:32:29] go and I mean everyone so I'm saying that really clearly so you're basically saying Rohit and
[00:32:33] Kohli will both be in Delhi next year yeah or both be in CSK with Dhoni in the dugout like
[00:32:39] how cool is that lovely that's never gonna happen but okay tell me about Rinku Kohli bat
[00:32:49] situation have you been seeing those videos that was too good so Rinku basically goes after
[00:32:56] the
[00:33:12] is too good and he's saying it all with a straight face that was a great video it's actually
[00:33:18] like a spinner broke the bat
[00:33:33] and then there's a Punjab king versus Gujju titans game this was a bit of a boring game 142
[00:33:40] all out Punjab it should have been more than it was yeah it should have been more
[00:33:46] boring than it was like you ended up it was over man they had some wickets in the middle but then
[00:33:52] twice again this guy just three to four times every season just wins them a game chasing it's
[00:33:59] 36 of 18 so yeah it was a pretty clinical finish from him actually like Shah Rukh Khan
[00:34:05] got out in the end Rashid Khan got out at the end Junkal hooked up some junk wickets
[00:34:09] and got me some fantasy points so that was good yeah not really much to write home about
[00:34:16] that game to be honest but that's that's everything right we've managed to counter
[00:34:21] through all the games of the past week now in the in the 30 34 minutes that we've we've
[00:34:29] just spoken and just as an update the Mumbai Indians are now 120 for four after 14 over
[00:34:35] so good recovery from them that's pretty well done actually Varun so tell us a little bit
[00:34:42] about how fantasy is going for you oh man I have to log in so give us a minute for that but
[00:34:48] DJ why don't I tell you my t20 world cup squad and you tell me yeah you agree and disagree
[00:34:57] are you starting with Rohit and Kohli at which point I already started disagreeing with you
[00:35:01] I'll I'll give you the 15 and then I'll tell you where is this the squad you would like to
[00:35:05] have is this squad that's going to be picked is the other question I think this is the squad
[00:35:12] that is going to be picked okay so I go with Rohit Jaiswal, Gil Kohli so that's four
[00:35:22] I go with Sky, Dubey, Rinku I'm gonna go with Panth, Pandya, Jadeja, Bumrah, Kuldeep, Jhel,
[00:35:36] Arshdeep and Siraj so I went a little fast but tell me if you
[00:35:42] so no KL no KL so I've got basically the I'll tell you what I've got Gil and Jaiswal both in
[00:35:50] I've got Dubey and Rinku both in okay and the only person I'm unsure in my squad is Siraj
[00:35:59] I don't necessarily think that he deserves a spot based on the bowling and again not that
[00:36:07] I mean we love Siraj it's just he just looks tired he just looks very very tired
[00:36:13] I don't think you're wrong in that this is a likely squad right the problem with
[00:36:20] the Indian T20 selection has been for the last and I think the impact player has actually not
[00:36:26] helped the situation at all I think it's made things worse for Indian cricket in the T20 sphere
[00:36:35] because now you have the likes of Dubey and yes he bowled in the last game
[00:36:40] they come in they bat and then they sit out they don't bowl they don't field and that's not the
[00:36:47] rule in international cricket so you need multi-dimensional cricketers and now the
[00:36:53] IPL is actually grooming people that are more singular in their skill set you're
[00:36:59] incentivized now to specialize more in batting or bowling because then you can just be impacts
[00:37:06] out so I agree there's no Akshay also so that that's fine
[00:37:13] No Ashwin from the T20 World Cup last time and is Pant your sole keeper what about Samson?
[00:37:20] Yeah so I think the issue with this team is just that I don't have two keepers
[00:37:24] yeah I don't think that's gonna happen actually and I think if they take Pant they will have
[00:37:29] to pick K.L. and K.L above Gil to be honest yeah so then you pick the utility and Gil is not
[00:37:36] anything wrong but if you say that I'm going to pick a second keeper that has to be
[00:37:41] I think Sanju Samson has had a good IPL this year to be honest he's captain well
[00:37:46] he's done well I don't know what his stats are but he's looked up for it and honestly
[00:37:51] like when are you going to give a chance stop playing the same cricket over and over again
[00:37:56] and expecting a different result man the whole Kohli Rahul Rohit thing it's not work
[00:38:04] let them play ODI cricket and test cricket and I was speaking to a friend of mine about this
[00:38:08] yesterday I was like I get it right like in Australia it's different but you've done it for
[00:38:16] so many we've done it for 16 17 years now and you've not won yeah you're not doing it
[00:38:21] right anymore you need a reset of thinking you need why not go left field pick an Ashutosh Singh
[00:38:29] or pick Abhishek Sharma or something like that right you want a guy in form I mean he's smacking
[00:38:35] the world's best bowlers around Abhishek Sharma Yashaswamy is actually not in form at the
[00:38:39] moment he's I think he's mentally tired to be honest the poor guy because he scored 700 runs
[00:38:44] against England in the test series and went straight into the IPL and I was going to go
[00:38:48] straight in the T20 World Cup he's at risk of mental fatigue yeah but I think for me it comes
[00:38:54] down to this is a very what-if conversation that's why at the start I said this is the
[00:38:58] team I think is a realistic yeah sure nobody can get all 15 I think I'm definitely off by two
[00:39:05] or maybe three but this is what I believe will give us the best shot of success and
[00:39:12] when I say that I mean that by playing a doobie and a rink who you're changing your
[00:39:15] game a little bit I think you could actually have Pandya and Jaddu be your fourth and fifth
[00:39:24] bowlers with doobie as the sixth bowler for one or two overs so what I'm saying is that
[00:39:29] could be changing the game I fully agree Ashutosh, Shashank these type of guys need to come in
[00:39:34] but it's too soon man we've seen a lot of guys do well for five matches in a season
[00:39:38] and not do anything like a Venky I have not done anything yeah but Tevati has been doing
[00:39:42] this for three four seasons so why doesn't he get a look in like why are you going on
[00:39:47] just backing those specialists I think you can afford maybe two or three specialists maximum
[00:39:52] in a team Bumrah walks in as just a pure bowler if your captain is Rohit he has to be there
[00:39:59] but then everybody else has to have more than one skill set that's my view I don't know
[00:40:04] Jaleja, Pandya yes they walk in but yeah but that's what I'm saying like Tevati doesn't
[00:40:10] have more than one skill set so yeah but also do you need a Kohli do you need a Gil when you
[00:40:15] can have an Ayyar where's Ayyar he's the best spin hitter of those guys Rahul plays spin better
[00:40:20] than those guys as well Gil's been getting out to spin Shreya's Ayyar? Yes Shreya's Ayyar
[00:40:26] No man he's played pathetic yeah but I mean if you think about the pitches Caribbean pitches small
[00:40:33] grounds American pitches probably going to spin right he's the best spin hitter of the lot
[00:40:41] maybe maybe but I see I'm just a bit jaded with this whole like same ODI team
[00:40:47] it's not gonna work they're not gonna win it's really yeah but I think but I think
[00:40:54] the difference is there are it's only Rohit and Kohli everyone else is kind of new
[00:40:59] you can't argue with Sky, Dube, Rinku, Jadu and Pandya so it is new we're trying not to I feel
[00:41:06] but it's the keeper slot and anyway we could be discussing this so I think for me the keeper
[00:41:12] should be Samson in this round I don't think Pant is fit enough yet I don't think we can
[00:41:18] trust him enough and he was never a t20 certainty to start with yeah right so yeah
[00:41:25] I mean let's see now when it comes out I think it's still early like they'll delay it as much as
[00:41:29] they can when do we have to submit it it's either in the next four five days or in the next
[00:41:34] eight to nine days so yeah you've given me the realistic team and I don't disagree with
[00:41:39] you this is more than likely it'll be the along these lines I'm just frustrated with
[00:41:43] the thinking and I have been for a really long time so that's come up yeah this one
[00:41:49] got it okay last three fantasy update uncle Sam SRK is number one well done
[00:41:58] Lester Anthony Rai bits pieces Kapil Sharma those are your top three I am at number 13
[00:42:07] that's not bad DJ is not too far off at number 19 despite missing a game and not changing
[00:42:13] getting zero points and Ashwin is way too like I have to scroll way too much I think it's 38th
[00:42:20] or something it's just it's just been a terrible season for him so yeah that's it DJ that's a
[00:42:26] wrap on this week's episode yeah thanks man thanks for joining me and maybe next week we'll
[00:42:31] be back with the actual team which is more than likely going to be 95 percent of the
[00:42:35] players that foreign just named your big emissions are no higher no KL
[00:42:42] I know I hear is not even in this yeah so I think Samson is my miss basically between Samson
[00:42:48] Pant and KL I think I need to be picking two out of those three I want to do and no Ashwin
[00:42:54] he's not even in the conversation yeah and I don't think Siraj should play I think they
[00:42:58] should just fly him in for that Sri Lanka game whenever it happens and that's that's
[00:43:02] good enough yeah but who is the backup Seema Mayank Yadav that would be a call and a half
[00:43:08] man like why take Mayank if he's yeah but he's not he's not even fit to play the IPL
[00:43:14] how do we know that maybe that's a Saazish by BCCI just like keeping him under wraps
[00:43:22] okay nice one okay that's the show guys that's Edges and Sledges one tip one hand
