[00:00:22] a couple of weeks off and it's because Indian cricket has taken a couple of weeks

[00:00:26] off. How are you feeling? It's been a year I've obviously talked off the end of a lot. But

[00:00:30] how are you doing? It feels great to be back. Yeah, it is. It is. I mean you're right.

[00:00:35] In the five-plus years or six-od years that we've been doing this, I can't remember a period

[00:00:41] of time that we've ever had such a long break. And so we've been talking about it. It's been

[00:00:45] a year. It's been a game going to Zimbabwe or something. There's been something. Yeah and we did

[00:00:51] have Ashilanka Series but it just feels like we've been waiting for this world cup in for so many

[00:00:59] years. Now that we've got it, I think everyone is just kind of taking that time to digest

[00:01:04] date and it'll cause in the past we've had a situation in 2011 where we won the World Cup.

[00:01:10] ODI World Cup and literally like four days later the IPL started and you couldn't digest it. So

[00:01:15] at first it's okay I am missing it and I'm missing getting back to it and no disrespect to

[00:01:23] Bangladesh or Shilanka but you know like if this Thursday instead of the Bangladesh series we had

[00:01:28] South Africa or Australia coming to India and the Stessies starting it just would have elevated everything.

[00:01:34] Still feels a little bit like we need to get back into the groove but happy to be back.

[00:01:40] Yeah I think I'm sort of feeling like you said I'm I'm ready to be back but I'm also not

[00:01:45] upset that there was a few weeks off and that just might be because of how you said this a little

[00:01:49] bit but how intense this calendar year was from kind of March-ish timing maybe I had been a little

[00:01:55] all the way through the end of the World Cup it was just it just felt nonstop so it's great to be

[00:02:01] back yeah just a call out next is going to be equally packed so maybe that's why we got the

[00:02:07] Champions trophy we've got the IPL and we've got the world test championship so if you think about it

[00:02:12] from probably middle of feb till end of June it's at once again nonstop so it's just

[00:02:21] it's nice to have these breaks once in a while but I think we're ready to go we're ready to be back

[00:02:25] we're gonna talk a lot this is the official India versus Bangladesh Tests series preview this two tests

[00:02:30] coming up one in Chennai one in Kanpur the we're gonna there's been some other create

[00:02:35] Bangladesh has defeated Pakistan so coming straight off the back of a win which we'll talk about in our

[00:02:40] preview and Australia's playing England it's that there's always cricket but before we get into it

[00:02:45] this is not in our note so talking points I'm putting you on the spot but you are the right

[00:02:51] person to be asked what if the players been up to and the last four weeks or so because

[00:02:55] outside of the league trophy like let's talk the royal hits the very same so I'm mostly asking

[00:02:59] what is social media telling you that players have been doing it in last October just a couple of

[00:03:04] highlight yeah actually it's been quiet I mean I think I think sky is probably just still

[00:03:10] being on the country just reacting his catch and I saw a certain crazy like basically I think sky

[00:03:17] is just coming out of that but generally I think everyone has been kind of taking time you know I'm

[00:03:23] seeing like you know there are these TV shows like couple of sherman you're seeing a lot of

[00:03:27] the stars going there you're seeing Rishapant to online podcasts with the time where lots of

[00:03:33] the world so you're just I think everyone's just in a little bit more for chill more probably

[00:03:38] just working now getting ready you know we've always been saying there's this world test

[00:03:43] championship coming up and they want to do well in that there's a there's a new coach who needs

[00:03:50] to still kind of show his show up in the test format because the mirror has hasn't

[00:03:54] coached in the test format yet he's only done T20 and ODI that to mix series so far yeah so you know

[00:04:01] there's there's boulders needing rest there's boomerah with his kind of workload management

[00:04:06] shami is still not back so I just think everyone has probably taken this time to spend time with

[00:04:12] the family is continuing to kind of work out building on this trend and then settling in for

[00:04:17] the next word I think 8 to 9 months of a very high cricket season so there is the test series

[00:04:23] test season is here right Bangladesh, then New Zealand and then Australia and that's the big one

[00:04:29] so let me plenty of coverage and you can always catch the latest here on it just in sledges

[00:04:33] or have you seen the social clip of boomerah when he was asked by a journalist who is the

[00:04:39] I'm seeing by a face that you probably have you had I did I was running away away

[00:04:43] who's the fittest the fittest player yeah yeah you want to go through there's what I mean

[00:04:48] I don't know how I feel about that but it was interesting I mean I think everyone is like

[00:04:52] I think people have been so coolist after this year right like and so he responded perfectly

[00:05:08] seven years ago boomerah with his ads on the internet so he's a fit guy like who knows

[00:05:14] him for taking his own name yeah and he and the added context he gave is listen to be a fastballer

[00:05:19] anywhere in the world you have to be unbelievably fit to be a fastballer in India

[00:05:22] with the kind of conditions the heat you're dealing with etc is a different level

[00:05:26] of fitness now you would argue his run ups like six or seven steps he's not doing what a lot

[00:05:30] of quickballer is that back of the shoulder power that's needed for the absolute and the back muscles

[00:05:36] that listen if you don't take that little clip out of context I will not say anything negative

[00:05:41] I'm just afraid of them right he's like like gold just wrap him in cotton wool and preserve

[00:05:46] right so before we get into the India one of these years you want to talk our listeners to

[00:05:50] there has been some creating action because obviously they can't be none and it has sort of arguably

[00:05:55] played into a little bit of the the look to the futures we look to you you mentioned

[00:06:00] Mamadshami that's a big absence right now we know he's working very very hard to be back to

[00:06:05] full fitness likely for Australia maybe for New Zealand he's out for the Bangladesh and so quick

[00:06:11] bowlers is one space but obviously the leap drop is happened right so there's four teams

[00:06:15] it's midway it's still going you want to walk through our walk through quickly how it works

[00:06:20] and what some of the highlights of it yeah so it's a interesting system I think it

[00:06:24] used to be kind of the zonal format but it's really a way for us to get back into the test

[00:06:30] cricket mindset this time of the done is they've created four teams so they've kind of split out these

[00:06:36] probably list of 60 to 70 players across these four teams and it's got a very interesting

[00:06:43] point system which I thought let me let me share because when I looked at this point stable I was

[00:06:47] trying to calculate how to swarke typically point stable are very simple maths right unless I think

[00:06:52] looking at the world test championship table it's percentage but typically it's like you get

[00:06:57] points for wins you get points for draw and then you don't get points for losses so as I was

[00:07:01] looking at it I tried to kind of divert bit deeper this one is interesting it says if you have

[00:07:06] an innings win or a win by 10 wickets you get 7 points and just the fact that you've called it out

[00:07:12] is to me a weird thing that means you're expecting a lot of views if you will match they've

[00:07:18] matched outright win you get six points if you take a first innings lead but then don't win the game

[00:07:26] you actually get three points and if there's a loss on the first innings you get one point so

[00:07:35] convoluted convoluted if I was trying to think about you know how does how does the point stable look

[00:07:40] but effectively they've broken this up into India ABC and B I think the captains of these teams are

[00:07:47] Gill and I read somewhere that now it's my uncaft of the first test there's shares I here there's

[00:07:53] Ruaturaj guy quiet and there's Abhimanyu Israel so these are the four captains India C has got nine points

[00:08:02] India B is at seven India A is at six and India D is unfortunately on zero so they've played two

[00:08:09] and lost two now the way it works is there's no there's not semi is there's no finals it's just that

[00:08:15] team that comes up first actually then wins the delete proof so it's been interesting because

[00:08:21] I think a lot of the the names that kind of we had been missing in the test circuit like a

[00:08:29] Rishabh Pantha Kail Rahul a lot of these guys are back and again I said this like if you think about

[00:08:36] the the constructor of our squad I think the bowlers are quite set I think with Pum's coming back

[00:08:42] the wicked keepers also quite said I think what's probably missing is one or two spots in the

[00:08:47] middle order and maybe one all round this spot so people are going to be kind of fighting for that

[00:08:53] but yeah let me just pause there before maybe talk about maybe some of the top performances

[00:08:58] and stuff yeah it's been interesting that's fascinating actually I didn't know all of that about

[00:09:02] this kind of the points format and you know in full transparency many of our listeners have

[00:09:07] probably had a chance to watch more of it than I have I don't get a good broadcast of it

[00:09:10] so I've been reading about it but probably haven't followed as closely as I would like

[00:09:14] I think it's very interesting a it's great to see that there's still a little cricket on there

[00:09:20] would always be a domestic circuit having something like this that is even more than just the

[00:09:24] state teams it is great to see be this isn't this is a chance right is when there's

[00:09:29] there's often domestic cricket on as will be the final games of the delete trophy when there's in

[00:09:35] when it's on when there's no Indian men's national cricket the eyeballs the viewers should think

[00:09:40] the engagement is much much higher and I want to before before we talk about performances

[00:09:46] want to pick on the point you made I saw a data point recently actually going into the

[00:09:50] Bangladesh series that says in the last five years in a home series India's bats

[00:09:55] bats have a batters have under performed versus the prior ten years on average and boller's

[00:10:02] performed which is not it not not a surprise right if you think about who's one of some

[00:10:07] of the markies you're just me it's been dollars so far although results have been good constantly

[00:10:12] making what has happened to finals you mentioned something in that middle order are you looking

[00:10:17] for for a change are you looking for a couple of fresh sets of likes to come into the middle order

[00:10:21] if not immediately within the next 12 months or so yeah I think I saw that stat to and you know

[00:10:28] where it came up it came up in the context of the most runs in test so there were two stats one

[00:10:34] is the stat you showed we spoke about second was the most runs in test since 2021 and Joe Root

[00:10:42] has played 49 matches with over 4,500 runs at an average of 55 the next best on that list is

[00:10:50] Hoaja with 29 matches at 2500 runs so yes there are more matches but as I go down that list since 2021

[00:11:00] there have been there is no India in that top seven eight nine list wow so there's no

[00:11:06] India in that list now then you play done with what you're saying I think it's interesting because

[00:11:12] the top order just hasn't performed consistent and what I mean by that is you'll have

[00:11:21] but nobody's sitting century after century right in a series and so I think that's the first aspect

[00:11:28] the second is the middle order is actually or the middle to late has actually got a lot of runs

[00:11:33] so when you think of the jadejas, pans, sondars, ashrins of the world they've actually got

[00:11:39] a lot of friends and then third is really the bonus the bowlers have stepped up and won us a lot

[00:11:44] of games now overseas the bases have done well in India the spinners have done well so they have

[00:11:49] won us the matches we'll get into the order right because we know kind of for the top

[00:11:55] four ratio would say there's a gap in number five before you get into the keeper I think it's

[00:12:02] going to be a toss up between either a very fresh pair of legs like you said like salfa as come

[00:12:07] or a very old hand like you're well and I think that's what we'll get into it we discuss this

[00:12:12] yeah just before we get into this court then some of the headline performances I'll run through

[00:12:16] a high level on the the leap trophy and names we've seen right around for a while I'll go through

[00:12:21] badders and then button if you want to look at borders we can do it that way but six seven centuries

[00:12:26] so far Ricky Booey, Moshir Khan which was great to see very like kind of a lot of a variety of the clips

[00:12:34] that are very exciting I think when you're Esher and so captain of the side but I'm saying not

[00:12:39] a name we've seen around a lot but made 122 in one of the in the only match he played they

[00:12:44] Varma see them around a lot and then the sixth name on that century at least Esher and Kishan

[00:12:51] it had in 26 ball had 1111 I mean Varun at some point you just get to one where you're just happy

[00:12:58] for the guy right like he's been around there he's been a fixed Jerry's gone through his ups and downs

[00:13:03] gone through the behavior and stuff and this agreement and this and that but at some point you just feel

[00:13:07] you're just glad for him to be doing back on the cricket field letting the back to the talking right

[00:13:12] yeah you are and especially like with such a gap the minute he hit that century suddenly his

[00:13:18] name started popping up on all my news, my feed him I have to go on a salmon been close enough

[00:13:23] to this but I was reading about it Shinkishan's come back and I'm he's not in the

[00:13:27] relationship he's gone again he's in his relationship he's come back yes but I haven't read

[00:13:34] everything he's not in the first spot but you're happy to see him doing well yeah and then a couple of

[00:13:39] of the guys guy quite got as Skipper got two half centuries Bawa and Riddish got two half

[00:13:44] centuries Padika who's again felt like a sea saw right in the last little bit gave burst onto

[00:13:50] the sea and then head sometimes got a couple of half centuries so those are the big highlights

[00:13:54] Raoul played one match made 57 and won innings and 35 odd in the next so not bad from a batting

[00:14:01] lens Varun do you have the list of kind of bowling performances in front of you I do this but I just want to

[00:14:08] straight to bowling but sir Sarfra's Khan's brother you know I'm going to talk about him also

[00:14:13] first but Sarfra's Khan's brother Mushid Khan yeah man this guy's been he's much younger

[00:14:21] he's been putting in the hard yards he hit 181 single handed Lee I think 16 hit the roof

[00:14:30] and he and of the ups and of these senior work batting and they just kind of built out this partnership

[00:14:35] that took the game away he's a guy to watch for me so there I start thinking about batting order

[00:14:42] kind of or other batting pipe climb I do think like your guy quite a partiter are the next

[00:14:49] to in line falls chord but push yourself three years out if Mushid Khan has been batting the

[00:14:55] way as he's going to be a shoe into the team so he's the first caller to want to make the second

[00:15:00] as gonna say is as you've filtered on this list I've just before we started I should have asked me

[00:15:05] why strike rate important and I said it's not bat when you've got pressure pump striking at

[00:15:11] hundred and nine team versus everyone else who's in the 40s and 50s I think it's worth calling out

[00:15:18] so pressure pump 68 runs nothing to write over but the strike rate of hundred and nine team now

[00:15:27] we can all be looking at this but there's one man or shelly is going to be looking at this

[00:15:31] and losing steep that is nice so keep the strike rate going to show and yeah that was my plug

[00:15:39] he took a great catch actually and off of anyway I've heard about how many sixes in the

[00:15:45] year like he's taking a great no I read actually yes fair he took a one really good catch but also

[00:15:50] right in the next session that they just had I think it was today at the time of recording

[00:15:53] he showed up got cut out to early and then just taking the clues that get down the

[00:16:00] strike rate sixes so there was also picture that went viral in chapark of a six it went through a wall

[00:16:05] and there was off the bat of the rat go away from the breeze like there's a hole in a wall in

[00:16:10] chapark I don't know if this was real or I didn't verify so please don't please don't get

[00:16:15] still a bit fake use but that's what I saw yeah a couple other quick ones right Varan and I

[00:16:23] think Kumar 10 week it took four for 126 so give a lot of runs it's a bit picked up 10 week it is missing

[00:16:30] from the Bangladesh squad yeah I cashed the picked up nine week it took a five for and it's in

[00:16:37] this squad and we're going to come talk to them a little bit other notable mentions Khalil Khalil

[00:16:41] Ahmed's back how she's ran as back kind of in the top of the scene and then the highest we could

[00:16:45] take out at the time of recording in the leap is on true combo which we took it was taken 11 including

[00:16:50] 469 in one innings so it's a very interesting to see we won't we we run out of time to spend

[00:16:57] more on the belief trophy but great to see some names coming back on Varan are you ready to pivot and

[00:17:02] talk about India's or Bangladesh's tour of India and India's squad for it yeah I think we are

[00:19:24] overall surprises i mean i am a bit surprised at the yashas since you mentioned they

[00:19:30] i don't know if he's been picked because he's our our senior to the the qualifiers like Erick

[00:19:35] owner out he had a good one so here he had he did have a good game for india be i'm telling

[00:19:41] you at least this is what i'm reading etc i think which army uncertain and with the likelihood

[00:19:47] that going to Australia you're playing four quicks almost guaranteed he's six about six for six

[00:19:53] feet tall he's lefty and he gets this kind of it with a red ball gets this kind of late

[00:19:58] late bounce if you will or he gets he gets a nice little jump off the ball so it's it tends to catch

[00:20:03] the top of that and that can be really conducive to getting the edge in Australia so for me

[00:20:09] i don't know whether he'll play but i think they're grooming him to see if he can play now

[00:20:13] and against the zillion to be that lefty quick option that can play if you're picking four

[00:20:18] quicks in Australia so that's why i think he's in the center that makes sense so

[00:20:23] why don't we start with the ballers since we've got into it so i agree i get it from yashas

[00:20:28] perspective i think a lefty is critical as well i you know if i think four years ago

[00:20:35] nutraachan was was this chord but he's just he's just not there anymore right and i think

[00:20:41] Ash deep is the is the odd one for me in the sense that he is a premier left armor for us

[00:20:49] but i don't know if his game suits the longer format to be honest and i have a feeling that

[00:20:55] the last two work ups he's played such a crucial role in d20 i think they're just kind of

[00:20:59] developing a little bit more for the shorter format so make sure it doesn't lose his edge that's

[00:21:03] a gut feeling right now you've got boomra and syrage the way i would play this is i would not

[00:21:09] play both of them together at least for this moment is because it's an opportunity

[00:21:15] look syrage and boomra are known entities right i don't think you need to test them i don't think

[00:21:20] it came practice so i would say given boomra has been picked and i shouldn't just we need to

[00:21:26] discuss why he's not vice captain as well but given boomra has been picked for who is

[00:21:31] vice captain my dad i think he'll i think okay sorry i don't have that in front of an interesting

[00:21:36] so given boomra has been picked i think he will play i am very very very keen to see a cash

[00:21:43] or yes they are i just think it is the kind of the pitches will be more conducive to spinners

[00:21:51] i think these guys will get bursts of three to five over the new ball i would like to see somebody

[00:21:58] knew yeah i mean i hundred percent agree with you i think the pitch is the key thing

[00:22:02] user right at chapock do you really pick even do you pick two full dedicated full-time

[00:22:07] quicksets stuff right like you're definitely going to play from a composition standpoint at

[00:22:12] three spinning options now we are lucky in that you have spinning options who can back it

[00:22:17] six even and still be full-time spinners which is with which is lucky but i guess maybe you

[00:22:22] play two quicks to your point you're probably not playing boomra and syrage or probably playing

[00:22:26] boomra and one of our cash and yes and maybe the other gets another game but it is actually

[00:22:31] unfortunately for you very very difficult to test out a selection for Australia on quick quicksets

[00:22:38] in India it's just it's just hard so so let's get into the spinners then from a composition standpoint

[00:22:44] i've said this a lot before do you play ash jadeja and actor so you get three options of

[00:22:50] guys who can back and ball or discled queda school deep come in he's been almost too good to

[00:22:55] be ignored and he has been working on his batting and making significant progress but what are your

[00:22:59] what are your three picks for spin assuming we pick three at maybe you don't know i would pick

[00:23:04] three but just sharing like with one of my friends we've been debating this a lot because you

[00:23:09] got four spinners right i don't know why you stand in this but the personal discussing with

[00:23:16] things called deep should be number one of that list okay i have feeling you're in the similar

[00:23:21] from a ball extra point absolutely then you get into if you want them to bat at eight then

[00:23:26] you but yes it's a pure ballerning no question you don't have an all a second all round to

[00:23:31] on jadeja i think from an all round of perspective actually accer per tail has like the last 12

[00:23:38] to 18 months has been phenomenal he backs and three of the team wants he backs at nine of the

[00:23:43] team watch i think accer per tail and jadeja are certain right just when you've also taken

[00:23:51] to account the batting has been weaker in the last 10 years like you said spin friendly tracks

[00:23:56] Bangladesh has got quality spinners i think you're gonna play accer and jadeja so that's my bat

[00:24:02] now when it comes to acerino versus kulev i'm gonna say a shrimp yeah five hundred sixty do

[00:24:09] it get to the hundred test like that's crazy to be the he's i get it a hundred percent get it

[00:24:14] yeah I know what three centuries how did he have them how would it test it at all

[00:24:18] I don't really know but my point five five test it so there you go so i think that's going to be

[00:24:25] now that doesn't mean i don't like to leave that doesn't mean i don't think i live to leave

[00:24:28] i think could be should play but we're gonna play three spinners and two of them are going

[00:24:34] to be jadeja and accer so it's going to come down to action to be i don't know if you're

[00:24:37] having different opinion but i actually think depends on the objective right i think if we have the first

[00:24:42] match if you're trying to win you you actually play boom right and you play four spinners

[00:24:48] that's the answer you open the bowling with boom right ash at chapock now i haven't seen the pitch

[00:24:52] on the play list so but historically you open the bowling with boom right and action and you

[00:24:57] just play the three extra spinners you can argue if three spinners can't get you ten

[00:25:00] we could to why will the fourth on a spinning ring but there's a word where you do it i don't

[00:25:04] think they go that conservative so i think i think you're i think i think actually jadeja might

[00:25:11] miss out but seems crazy but not not because he's not worth it but just because uxia and home

[00:25:18] of phenomenon and jadeja overseas is and his your first choice right because of his batting too

[00:25:23] so i have a tough to say but i think i think they give yash they all look because they want

[00:25:28] to grow them they won't know if selected in the squad if they're not training them or reasonable

[00:25:31] look into australia and they sort of be boom right ash ash jadeja and cool deep for me as

[00:25:38] you're seven through them right let's talk that keeper spot no do it well fair but does

[00:25:44] you're real get a look as an old as a better than no okay despite the heroics against

[00:27:07] the prince is going to take over the king whenever the king decides to go kill is batting at three

[00:27:12] to be able to bat at four in which they've all done right everybody is batting four over in
