पावसाळा केव्हा सुरू होणार, किती पाऊस पडणार याचा अचूक अंदाज घेण्याचं कौशल्य शेतकऱ्यांकडे असतं. अन्यथा त्याची शेती तोट्यात जाते. शेतकऱ्यांना मान्सूच्या हवामान प्रणालीची काहीही माहिती नसते. मान्सूनचा वेध घेण्यात भारतीय हवामानशास्त्र विभागाने खूप प्रगती केली आहे. मात्र कोरडवाहू क्षेत्रात पेरणी केव्हा करायची हा निर्णय घेण्यासाठी हवामान विभागाच्या अंदाजांचा शेतकऱ्यांना फारसा उपयोग होत नाही.
Farmers have the skill to accurately predict the onset of the monsoon and amount of precipitation. Farmers hardly know anything about the Monsoon weather system. The Indian Meteorological Department has made great progress in monitoring the monsoon. But the forecast of the meteorological department is not very useful for dryland farmers to make decisions about sowing dates.
