[00:00:00] DBS Music presents Orphic India, Season 1, Episode 2, Dakshineshwar Mandir

[00:00:12] One of the well-known religious centres in not only West Bengal but also in India is the

[00:00:18] age-old Dakshineshwar temple.

[00:00:21] Along with its spiritual importance, it has a history of establishment as well.

[00:00:27] The so-called Bhavadarini statue was sculpted thrice by artist Srinavine Bhaskar.

[00:00:34] The reason behind has an interesting story.

[00:00:37] Rani Rashmani consulted her spiritual guru for a capable sculptor for the purpose.

[00:00:44] As suggested by him, Rani Ma requested Srinavine Bhaskar to make a statue with black touchstone.

[00:00:52] In 1855, the distinguished artist from Dihar started the job after following all spiritual

[00:01:00] and religious guidelines in Rani Ma's Jan Bazar house.

[00:01:05] Upon finishing the sculpture, the statue was found to be way too small when compared with

[00:01:12] the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.

[00:01:15] So Rani Ma requested Srinavine Bhaskar to make a bigger statue.

[00:01:19] But this statue couldn't match the size either.

[00:01:24] As a result, a total of three statues were made for Dakshineshwar temple.

[00:01:30] The first one of which is called Nishtarini Ma and is routinely worshipped in Shibu Guha's

[00:01:38] home in Vrindavan, Bosnia.

[00:01:41] Second one, Brahmamai Kali is worshipped in Pramanikkari Badi near Kashipur crematorium.

[00:01:49] The last one called Ma Bhavatarini Kali is worshipped in Dakshineshwar temple.

[00:01:56] The statue was made years before the construction of the temple and was kept locked in a box.

[00:02:03] One night in her dreams, Rani Ma saw the divinity sweating in the box.

[00:02:09] Upon opening it, she witnessed a truly sweating statue.

[00:02:14] The anxious queen then hurriedly inaugurated the temple on 13th May 1855 in Bengali calendar's 18th

[00:02:23] GH'd 1216 on the auspicious occasion of Snanyatra.

[00:02:29] The divinity was instituted as Bhavatarini Ma and is worshipped wholeheartedly by the people of Bengal.
