വൈരണി കാടുകളുടെ ഉൾഭാഗത്തായുള്ള ഗുഹക്കുള്ളിലായിരുന്നു ഷേർണി കടുവയും കുടുംബവും താമസിച്ചിരുന്നത്. മക്കളായ ഷോലയും നൈനിയും തികഞ്ഞ കുസൃതിയായിരുന്നു. അതിനാൽ തന്നെ ഇരുവരെയും നോക്കി വളർത്തുക എന്നത് ഷേർണിക്ക് വലിയൊരു തലവേദനയായിരുന്നു.
