Welcome to Khandaan: A Bollywood Podcast where today we discuss a pair of new releases.
First up is Netflix's CLASS which is an adaption of the Spanish show Elite (08.45). Then we discuss CINEMA MARTE DAM TAK (12.30) on Amazon Prime. A documentary series about the B movies that emerged from Hindi cinema in the 90s and the truly fascinating characters who made them, CMDT is a love letter to the movies. It’s funny, sad, nostalgic and full of surprise anecdotes. If you’re the kind of person who enjoys a Bollywood podcast, this documentary is for you!
Next, we discuss the new Pakistani film JOYLAND (23.00) which is expected to premiere in India in March. Asim had a chance to not only view the movie but also interview the director Saim Sadiq (51.15). You can listen to the interview at the end of the episode.

JOYLAND, the first film by a Pakistani director to win at the Cannes Film Festival 2022. Alongside its jury prize win, JOYLAND received the Queer Palme Award at Cannes as well as Special Jury Mention at SXSW and an Honourable Mention for the Sutherland Award at the London Film Festival. JOYLAND is the first feature film from Pakistan to make the shortlist for the Academy Awards. Here is a link to the trailer.
