High Five India | Kavitha Krishnamurthy

High Five India | Kavitha Krishnamurthy

On the side-lines of the UK Asian Film Festival, which has been running successfully for over 25 years, I had the pleasure of meeting India's soulful playback singer, Kavitha Krishnamurthy. Interviewing her live, I found her to be as delightful and soulful as her music, exuding the same grace and warmth that her songs have brought to countless listeners. Kavitha Krishnamurthy is a legend whose voice has been the heartbeat of Indian cinema for decades. With unmatched versatility and grace, she effortlessly blends classical elegance with contemporary melodies, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of music lovers across generations. Her illustrious career is filled with timeless songs that resonate with purity, passion, and a profound emotional connection, reaching notes that few can touch. For "India: A Story in the Making," we shot a special "High Five India" segment with this magician of a voice. [00:00:00] Hello, welcome to India a story in the making high five India section and I'm here with the Kavitha Krishnamurthy

[00:00:08] who has just received a lifetime achievement award from UK Asian festival in London and we are sitting here in touch

[00:00:17] and I think I know she's in hurry but I do want to ask you five high five India rapid fire questions

[00:00:24] and then you can do a high five with me. I have had a delightful time of interviewing her twice

[00:00:31] so India for you in one word, Karitha. The future, the beautiful future. And if you could go back in time

[00:00:42] is there any music director, any person you've worked with anyone in your life who wanted to say

[00:00:49] something to which or you're not done? Sorry if you go back in time is there anyone you want to say

[00:00:57] something to or do music with anything if you were to go back in time who would be the person you

[00:01:03] want to meet? I think number one would be probably mother Nugentji. I just love this music and I

[00:01:12] feel that he brings out the best in his artist and I would have said mother Nugentji now after

[00:01:19] listening to me just give me a song which I think would be worth spending all my life working on

[00:01:26] and improving in perfecting. India is an industry, the film industry where songs are integral to

[00:01:35] the movies. What is it about the Indian cinema that the world doesn't know which they should?

[00:01:47] Well I think Indian cinema as I know it has been in a lot of ways it has been very very

[00:01:56] the older films that I've seen have been very very idealistic and they've always tried to

[00:02:02] promote Eqta in people and the music that you hear in these films has

[00:02:12] crossed boundaries, has crossed caste, creed, religion and the entire film industry always

[00:02:19] worked together as one family and I think it truly symbolizes Vasudeva Kuturova.

[00:02:26] That's what I feel. Beautiful. One thing that world doesn't understand about India.

[00:02:34] Well I still feel that the world doesn't realize that how in this country all of us

[00:02:41] actually live beautifully together it's like like I said it's a Vasudeva Kuturova.

[00:03:06] This is India, a story in the making and I'm your host Levena Tandon. Listen to our show on Apple,

[00:03:14] Spotify or watch it on our YouTube channel.
