The 19-year-old, along with one of Atiq's noted henchmen, was gunned down in Jhansi after they gave a chase to police for over 45 days. Both deceased carried bounties of Rs 5 lakh on their heads as they were accused in the Umesh Pal murder case. The bodies of both - Atiq Ahmed's son Asad and his aide Ghulam were taken to the Prayagraj mortuary from Jhansi by Uttar Pradesh Police. The encounter was carried out at the time Ahmed was in a Prayagraj court, where he was presented before the chief judicial magistrate in connection with the same murder and was remanded to 14-day judicial custody. The court also allowed a five-day remand for the UP Police to question him.
