[00:00:00] Hey lovely people this is Hina Ambareen Khan certified wellness coach certified life coach speaker ortho pharmaceutical scientist from Indian Institute of Science and a warm welcome to all my lovely people who are hearing to Hina's Emo wisdom podcast welcome welcome welcome to this
[00:00:14] another episode of this podcast where I'm your host and today we're going to dive deep into the topic that's incredibly relevant in our hyper connected world the transformative power of guess guess guess social media detox which is guided by emotional wisdom so what actually is
[00:00:37] social media detox simply put it's a period where you intentionally you stop from using the social media platforms it's about taking a break to reset your mind and refocus your energy okay on those things that actually truly matter to you and in this episode my dear friends
[00:00:57] let's explore the emotional impact of constant social media use because being a wellness coach I have seen the kind of impact that it has created in the minds of the people and the benefits of
[00:01:09] how you can take a break and the practical tips for this successful detox and how you can develop that emotional wisdom and to navigate this digital lives more mindfully and many people feel
[00:01:21] oh this is a digital world and we cannot get out of here I'm just going to tell you certain things just lend your ears listen to this and implement it yeah so let's start with understanding
[00:01:33] the emotional impact of social media as per research it shows that excessive social media use it leads to increased feelings of anxiety depression loneliness hope you all agree with this you have to yeah because this has an impact on our brains our cells our brain cells
[00:01:52] and our organs are feeling sorry emotions so the constant barrage of this perfect lives and curated content it can make us feel inadequate and stressed yes and no many people who are influencers they feel that if they get more likes and more views they feel they're very richer
[00:02:11] they have that kind of an attitude oh my god I'm having so much the kind of feeling that's developing just think of it with wisdom just think of it as wisdom yes of course if we are
[00:02:24] billionaires it's a different thing but getting more likes and more followers and to that we boast and we feel like we are something of higher level on the social media it is all dependent on the
[00:02:38] kind of mindset people have for their likes and for the followers it's all the mindset of people it's only because somebody likes something and they follow something doesn't mean to say that you have to feel something low about yourself or whatever you're doing it's a big no
[00:02:58] big no this I have fear felt where people go through a lot and when they feel oh I did not get the likes today or people did not like it are you living for the people to like it
[00:03:10] you are doing what you have to do if you want to convey your message to the world then just do it without even worrying and fearing whether somebody is liking it or not because
[00:03:21] everybody cannot like it and those of your nature may not be so many and could be there are so many who are going to like it so you can't change yourself to fit into the cup of the people
[00:03:35] every time and this is what causes frustration irritability anxiety lack of worth lack of self-esteem even today if you're feeling something good oh I can do it but suddenly when you see all
[00:03:46] this you feel like oh no nobody is liking it I'm not getting so many likes I'm not getting so many approvals on the social media what is this happening with you ask yourself is this not insanity
[00:04:02] yes it is personally I have noticed how scrolling through the endless feeds can drain the energy and affect the mood for me as well but it's not just me studies have found that
[00:04:16] heavy social media users they are more likely to report poor mental health they have no proper focus the pressure to keep up the fear of missing out and the need for validation through the likes
[00:04:32] and comments it's overwhelming that's a biggest disease that's a biggest disease now let me talk about the benefits of the social media detox it just goes beyond reducing the screen time one of the most immediate benefit is improved mental clarity you try and do it and you see
[00:04:53] the difference and you message to me and the focus without the constant distraction of notifications you can concentrate better on your task and you can be more productive people also report the enhanced creativity for your kind information when you're not consuming content all the time you create a
[00:05:12] space for your own thoughts and ideas to flow when are you going to let the thoughts to flow into you and when are you going to become creative do you want only the knowledge the
[00:05:22] knowledge the knowledge from the world and feed it and feed it and feed it and then that stinks it's of no use it's just like you're storing some food and one day is going to become rotten
[00:05:34] or some pests are going to come into it just like that yeah another significant benefit is better sleep the blue light from the screen can interfere with your sleep pattern so take a break it can
[00:05:47] help you to sleep more soundly so how do you successfully implement a social media detox always i talk on this set clear goals and intentions decide why you're doing this detox and what you
[00:06:01] hope to achieve you need to have a strong why it's not that you are not of value so you're doing it if you are of value then you will not do such things which have no value just
[00:06:14] the scrolling on the screen adds any value to your life to your being no it's just like no it's just like killing your time it's just like you're escaping from some kind of the loneliness
[00:06:27] that's it and nothing more it can be to reduce stress improve focus or simply to spend more time offline so you have to set the clear goals and intentions find alternative activities replace the social media time with other fulfilling activities read a book go for a walk
[00:06:46] spend time with your loved ones or just pick up a new hobby that will do it doesn't have to be that it has to be like what everybody is doing what you enjoy to do do it it's not that i enjoy
[00:06:58] watching only Netflix i love you know just shopping online i just love to keep scrolling no no no that is not the way out that is not loving that's actually you're killing yourself gradual reduction if quitting cold turkey seems daunting then try reducing your usage gradually
[00:07:14] start with few hours a day then a day a week and so on my dear people developing emotional wisdom is key making the most of your social media detox at times i feel like it's just like cancer
[00:07:33] yeah social media engaging in the screen time is just like cancer imagine you are exposed to the heat of the light have some light put it on your hand or put it on your hair put it on your
[00:07:50] face how much of heat do you feel do you tolerate it no right similarly it is the same having the impact on ourselves on her skin on our mind you're not understanding it
[00:08:06] here are some ways to cultivate it self-awareness pay attention to how social media is going to affect your emotions just observe that by having those likes or by looking at someone's life what
[00:08:17] are you feeling do you feel low about it ask yourself do you feel irritable ask yourself do you feel sad taking your life compared to others like ask yourself that this comparison is the biggest disease we all go through notice when you feel stressed anxious unhappy and consider
[00:08:36] why that might be being mindful practice being present in that moment when you are in that moment why am i scrolling the screen for so long what is that i want to do you have to
[00:08:49] me present that moment when you are being mindful it can help you to break the habit of mindless crawling it takes hours together you would have started for only few minutes two
[00:09:00] three minutes or five minutes or ten minutes by the time you see it's like oh my god it's two hours what did you do in those two hours when you value time the life of yours will be
[00:09:10] valued take it from me write it down somewhere and stick it on the wall when you value time your life will be valued when you don't value time then your life will not be of any value
[00:09:26] why are those successful people so valuable because they know the value of the time and they don't want to waste their time emotional resilience build your capacity to cope with negative emotions understand it's okay to feel uncomfortable emotions and that they can be managed
[00:09:45] without resorting to social media for distraction immediately we feel bored what are you doing everybody you're in a gathering you're with the relatives you're in some function what is that can be seen everybody having the gadget in their hand that is the phone
[00:10:00] tuck tuck tuck tuck tuck tuck tuck not to feel lonely not to feel embarrassed you know this is the way you're trying to escape not to feel left out immediately you take up
[00:10:10] the phone and i'm busy in my phone what is that happening it's actually putting your confidence low it's not making you something high yeah so my dear friends i sincerely suggest you stop
[00:10:24] scrolling through the social media make it a point before you sleep two hours before you go to bed no screen and two hours after you wake up no screen let it be anything don't touch practice
[00:10:38] and once in a week for five hours see to that that you are not going towards your phone or getting onto the phone see to that you practice it takes nap you feel so irritable you can see
[00:10:51] that how much you are addicted to that and you yourself have to help to break this addiction that you're having because this addiction is going to kill you this is just like cancer take it from me it's going to kill you it's going to make you more unproductive
[00:11:09] the screen can be used for the productive work but it cannot be used for unproductive work so when you are having certain kind of junk food the name itself says junk so you're putting
[00:11:22] into your body what is that it's going to give the junk results similarly when you are scrolling on the social media comparing your life with others feeling sad or just worrying about the
[00:11:33] you know the likes and the comments and what you're not getting and you're feeling low about it and you are not believing in yourself you're always like racing no i should get more likes and
[00:11:44] what is this happening with you you are running down with your confidence your worth your self esteem your worth is beyond those likes and comments your job is to just convey the strongest
[00:11:55] message that can help the world that's it be very genuine or authentic when you're helping someone it's not that only to gain the likes and gain the followers you're doing it many do only for that
[00:12:07] you don't need that that's not authenticity you do something to give an impact in the life of the people so that something good happens to someone even by a good word that you're going
[00:12:18] to say by a good post you're going to put by a good reel that you're going to do never mind if people are not liking it let them not let them you don't sit for their liking you or become
[00:12:30] like a prey to them you you want the validation from the oh they like they should like it they should like it it's just like see when you create a movie they have been into this acting industry when
[00:12:39] you create a movie you want it to get into a hit the box office right there is something not like that what is happening on the social media why are we so crazy about it so it is really
[00:12:50] very much needed to detox when you are putting something junk which is unhealthy you've got to detox your body right similarly you have to detox your brain with the social media
[00:13:04] yeah so to wrap up let's recap the key points my dear friends constant social media use it can negatively impact our emotional health a social media detox it can help improve your mental clarity productivity creativity and overall well-being the practical tips what I have suggested
