[00:00:08] Hello Sunshine and how has your week been?
[00:00:13] The other day I got talking to one of my cousins and she had quit a very lucrative job.
[00:00:19] And she said she was spending a lot of time at home just going back to everything that
[00:00:23] she always wanted to do.
[00:00:25] Gardening, cooking for her family and reading because she is to always complain about
[00:00:30] how she never got enough time to read.
[00:00:33] And she said, I'm only now understanding myself better.
[00:00:37] She said that I used to spend a lot of energy on things that did not serve me or help me
[00:00:43] in any way.
[00:00:45] You know and I really believed that I could be superwoman at all times.
[00:00:49] Even if I knew I had to take it easy or not spend my energy on things that drained
[00:00:54] me instead of filling me up, I would actually continue doing those things.
[00:01:00] It eventually started damaging my spirit instead of nourishing it.
[00:01:06] She said you know I never even allowed myself to fully feel anything or to ever sit back
[00:01:11] and ask myself how I felt or how I truly liked things, what I truly valued.
[00:01:18] It's only much later that I realized that the reason that I felt so low from time
[00:01:23] to time was because I was spending so much of my energy in things and places and people
[00:01:29] that did not inspire me, that did not guide me to be a better version of myself.
[00:01:34] And I was feeling completely depleted and empty.
[00:01:39] She said I now realize that I had to be more mindful of where I put my energy.
[00:01:45] I had to admit to myself that changes needed to be made and a constant check-in to make
[00:01:50] sure I wasn't falling back into my old way of thinking or any of the old patterns in my life.
[00:01:57] You know what the new thinking often does to a lot of us when we are willing to change,
[00:02:02] willing to go through that difficult step of breaking our old patterns is that we explore
[00:02:09] new things.
[00:02:10] We begin to say yes to new things.
[00:02:13] We learn what and where our energy should be directed at.
[00:02:17] We begin to make a commitment to look for the positive things in our lives,
[00:02:21] to search for more and spend our energy on things that are actually good for us.
[00:02:27] My cousin said that she committed to this journey of inner self-awareness and realized
[00:02:34] that because of that she found a lot of new places to put her energy in.
[00:02:39] She joined a book club, she met a lot of new people,
[00:02:42] she learned what type of friendship she should be putting her energy into.
[00:02:47] Friendships that were nurturing, friendships that were inspiring,
[00:02:51] supportive, loving and caring.
[00:02:54] You know sometimes we all may have to say goodbye to friendships
[00:02:57] that do not feel like they're nurturing us or we don't feel safe in them.
[00:03:02] Although it may be familiar to be with people you've always known practically your entire life
[00:03:07] but like the quote says, any kind of change only happens when you learn to say no to your own bullshit.
[00:03:14] And this is true for me as well.
[00:03:17] I had to also learn to put my energies in places that helped me grow and become a better version of myself.
[00:03:24] And today honestly I am that much more careful about where my energy goes
[00:03:28] and there are times I put too much of energy into something I know I have to step back a little.
[00:03:34] Sometimes it's not easy because we tend to put our 100% into things that we are extremely passionate about.
[00:03:40] We jump right in but it's sometimes helpful to remind ourselves to not over invest
[00:03:46] in certain situations when there's no need to.
[00:03:50] Today like my cousin I also look for good solid relationships and places to put my energy
[00:03:55] that fill me with joy or may fill or help me fill someone else's life with joy.
[00:04:01] I invest in things that fill me with light and love and allow me to be my best self.
[00:04:06] I always keep an eye on myself and I remind myself that I do not have to give all of my energy away
[00:04:13] and remind myself also that I have to be my own best friend.
[00:04:18] You know when you treat yourself with love and respect you teach others to do the same.
[00:04:24] And as Aristotle said, knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.
[00:04:30] So here's to each one of us making a commitment to get to know ourselves better.
[00:04:35] To begin and embark on the most important journey that we'll ever take, the journey towards our self.
