[00:00:06] Welcome back to another episode of Happiness Painting Podcast where we explore the collaboration

[00:00:12] of art, wellness and personal growth. I am your host Coach Sonal Chauhan and today we are diving

[00:00:20] into the topic that is incredibly close to my heart. How painting can be a transformative

[00:00:26] tool in cultivating self-love and self-care? So find out a cozy spot, maybe grab a cup of tea

[00:00:34] and let's embark on this creative journey altogether. Let me take you to the time when

[00:00:41] I was struggling to manage the pressures of life. Work was overwhelming, personal responsibilities

[00:00:49] were piling up and I found myself caught in a cycle of performance stress and the series

[00:00:56] of self-doubts. I had always loved painting but I prioritized my career and family over anything

[00:01:03] else. I have been very harsh on myself to meet deadlines, performance track and being perfect

[00:01:11] caregiver and so many aspects of life where I wanted to balance everything altogether.

[00:01:19] And I forgot it's okay for not being perfect always. It's fine if I made mistakes or couldn't

[00:01:27] meet deadlines. I am absolutely fine to have flaws in myself and we can live with that. When I

[00:01:36] restarted my passion in painting, it taught me mistakes are opportunities to learn more and

[00:01:43] flaws are the unique characteristics which differentiate us from robots.

[00:01:50] One fine day, feeling particularly exhausted, I decided to give it another try, just for few minutes. But

[00:01:59] those few minutes turned into hours and before I knew it, painting became my century, my escape, my space

[00:02:06] for the self-reflection. Soon I realized, with each brushstroke, it changes mood and perception about myself.

[00:02:17] And more you do, it works on the mindset and you start enjoying making mistakes and learning from them.

[00:02:26] As the colors danced across the canvas, I realized that painting wasn't just an art form. It was a mirror

[00:02:35] of self-reflection, reflecting my inner self, a tool to practice self-love. Each brushstroke became a

[00:02:44] transformation, each color a celebration of my unique abilities.

[00:02:50] I discovered that painting was not just about creating something beautiful, it was about

[00:02:57] embracing the beauty within ourselves. Self-love is something we often hear but rarely practice.

[00:03:08] How can painting help us? Especially in the fast-paced world we live in. But how can painting help us to

[00:03:14] practice self-love on a daily basis? Well, think about it, when you paint, you are giving yourself

[00:03:21] permission to pause, to connect with your inner thoughts and emotions, to express them without

[00:03:29] judgment. And in those moments, you are not just creating art, you are nurturing your soul.

[00:03:37] I started to explore self-love themes through paintings like self-acceptance, self-compassion,

[00:03:44] and kindness. For instance, I would paint scenes that represent peace, like a serene landscape for

[00:03:54] or the gentle sunrise. And these themes allowed me to focus on the aspects of life that I wanted to

[00:04:01] cultivate within myself. As I painted, I began to appreciate my unique qualities more. The way I

[00:04:09] chose colors, the way I created textures, it all became a self-reflection of who I am. And that helped

[00:04:18] me to see myself in the new and more compassionate light. But painting didn't just stop at self-reflection.

[00:04:28] It became a powerful way to promote self-compassion and kindness. There were times when I have made the

[00:04:36] mistakes on canvas, a color that didn't blend, maybe right, or you know, the actual figure it didn't

[00:04:44] come out. And it was not that smooth which I was expecting or I wanted. In the past, I might have

[00:04:52] hard on myself for these imperfections. But through painting, I learned to embrace them. And I started

[00:05:01] seeing these mistakes as opportunities to try something new and to correct them or to embrace them

[00:05:09] through my artwork. And that's how painting became a practice in self-compassion. I learned to be kinder

[00:05:17] on myself both on canvas and life. And this kindness extended beyond the brush, helping me to cultivate a

[00:05:28] more forgiving and gentle attitude towards myself in other areas of my life. Now let's talk about

[00:05:36] self-care. In our busy life, self-care often falls by the wayside. Doesn't it? But when you incorporate

[00:05:44] painting into your routine, it becomes the act of self-compassion and self-care itself. Setting aside

[00:05:52] some time from your busy routine and just spending that in your mind, especially the relaxing activity

[00:05:59] is the form of self-care. It is like recharging your batteries. It's way to show yourself that you

[00:06:07] also matter and your mind matter and your feeling and your experiences also deserve to be expressed

[00:06:15] and honored. And as you paint, you will find that it helps you to build a healthier self-image.

[00:06:23] You start to see yourself as someone capable of creating something beautiful or someone capable to

[00:06:31] expressing your deep emotions without any judgments or navigating through life challenges with grace

[00:06:39] and peace. One of the most beautiful things I discovered was how painting allowed me to celebrate

[00:06:47] my accomplishments, whether it is a big or the small or it's simply just enjoying the me time or enjoying

[00:06:57] the time which I am living right now. Each completed piece was a reminder of my growth,

[00:07:04] my resilience and my ability to create something meaningful. Whether it was a simple abstract or the

[00:07:11] detailed landscape or the seascape, each painting became a milestone in my journey towards self-love.

[00:07:19] And this celebration wasn't just about the final product. It was about the entire process which

[00:07:27] started from the deciding what I want to paint. The joy of creating the lessons learned and the emotions

[00:07:34] expressed through my creative activities.

[00:07:38] And then there was the role of self-expression in fostering self-love through painting, when you allow

[00:07:46] yourself to freely express your emotions on canvas. You are not just releasing pent-up feelings, you are

[00:07:53] acknowledging them and embracing them. You are saying these feelings matters and I also matter and I

[00:08:01] deserve to express them. And this act of self-expression is crucial in developing a loving relationship with

[00:08:09] yourself. It's about creating a safe space where you can be vulnerable, where you can accept yourself

[00:08:17] without conditions and you don't fear about any judgments from yourself and outside also.

[00:08:25] Painting became a safe space for me, a place where I could be completely honest with myself, where I could

[00:08:32] explore my emotions, thoughts without fear of any judgments and it is the space and I found true self-acceptance.

[00:08:41] So how do you integrate painting into your self-love routine?

[00:08:47] Let's start with the small, you know, simple exercises or just start with the making a decision to work on your self-love routines.

[00:08:59] Set aside a few minutes each day or week to paint. Choose themes that resonate with you, whether it's something peaceful like a sunset

[00:09:10] or something abstract like representing your emotions, what you are going through.

[00:09:15] Don't worry about the final product, focus on the process more and it starts with decision making,

[00:09:23] on the act of creating something for yourself, allowing yourself to make mistakes, to explore, to express.

[00:09:31] And over time you'll find that painting becomes more than just a hobby.

[00:09:37] It becomes a practice in self-love and the self-care, a way to develop a mindset that can tackle stress with grace and the resilience.

[00:09:48] I encourage you to pick up the brush and start your own journey of self-love.
