There are so many experts who loosely use the word "community", but in this podcast I will uncover the true meaning of what community really is, after building one for over 5 years.
00:00:01
Speaker 1: Welcome to the Freedom Business podcast, your host, Siddharth Rajsekar here.
00:00:05
Speaker 1: Great to have you here. This is where we are
00:00:07
Speaker 1: going to be talking about how we can redefine our
00:00:08
Speaker 1: education system by building vibrant learning communities, take your knowledge
00:00:13
Speaker 1: out of the world and be awesome. Let's get in.
00:00:29
Speaker 1: We hear the word community just thrown loosely like that
00:00:32
Speaker 1: by so many people in the online space. But are
00:00:35
Speaker 1: they really building a community? That's what I want to
00:00:37
Speaker 1: be covering this podcast because I want to get into
00:00:40
Speaker 1: a few elements on what can you, what are the
00:00:42
Speaker 1: elements of a community? Like what makes a community truly
00:00:45
Speaker 1: a community? Is it just a bunch of, you know,
00:00:48
Speaker 1: numbers on an Excel Sheet or, or is there something
00:00:50
Speaker 1: deeper than that? The first thing is purpose
00:00:54
Speaker 1: for a community to truly call itself a community. There
00:00:57
Speaker 1: has to be a common vision or common purpose for
00:00:59
Speaker 1: the community. For example, the HBA purpose is to redefine
00:01:03
Speaker 1: a broken education employment system by creating a new breed
00:01:05
Speaker 1: of teachers and leaders. And I keep driving the same
00:01:09
Speaker 1: vision and mission again and again and again and again.
00:01:13
Speaker 1: So when people are a part of this vision, they,
00:01:15
Speaker 1: you know, it's like they're able to be
00:01:19
Speaker 1: so much in tune with this bigger purpose
00:01:23
Speaker 1: and everything else in between becomes secondary.
00:01:26
Speaker 1: So if somebody has to learn new skills, they have
00:01:28
Speaker 1: to build, uh you know, their systems, sometimes there's overwhelm
00:01:31
Speaker 1: that kicks in. But when they are able to reflect
00:01:35
Speaker 1: back on the bigger purpose, they're able to go through,
00:01:37
Speaker 1: what would they have to go through? So what makes
00:01:40
Speaker 1: a community community is a strong purpose that is beyond
00:01:45
Speaker 1: the founder of the community. Like it's beyond the person
00:01:48
Speaker 1: who started the community.
00:01:50
Speaker 1: The second thing that makes a community to community is
00:01:52
Speaker 1: the leadership style.
00:01:54
Speaker 1: You know, there are dictator, leadership styles. There is more
00:01:57
Speaker 1: like a service leadership style, like I've taken on more
00:02:01
Speaker 1: on the service leadership style because I don't want to
00:02:03
Speaker 1: be the highlight of the center of attraction of everything
00:02:05
Speaker 1: that I do. I'm a very private person. I don't
00:02:06
Speaker 1: like to show what's going on in my personal life.
00:02:09
Speaker 1: I like to create an environment or an atmosphere for
00:02:12
Speaker 1: people to grow. And there are some other communities where
00:02:15
Speaker 1: it is very dictator style, that means who is the
00:02:17
Speaker 1: leader of the community. He has to show everybody that
00:02:20
Speaker 1: he's the boss or she's the boss. And
00:02:22
Speaker 1: it's like a very controlling type like, you know, that
00:02:26
Speaker 1: they have to call the shots themselves.
00:02:29
Speaker 1: Uh Whereas the service leadership style is more of empowering
00:02:32
Speaker 1: others to do things and letting it be and be
00:02:35
Speaker 1: more free flowing and not being a control freak. OK.
00:02:38
Speaker 1: The third element of what makes a community a community
00:02:41
Speaker 1: are value systems of the community. For example, we have
00:02:44
Speaker 1: six codes of honor, which is freedom, growth, clarity, efficiency,
00:02:48
Speaker 1: abundance and contribution are the six core values of internet
00:02:51
Speaker 1: lifestyle hub. So for each value I have defined what
00:02:54
Speaker 1: it is. For example, freedom is to be able to
00:02:56
Speaker 1: live and run a business anywhere in the world. Growth
00:02:59
Speaker 1: is to learn do and teach simultaneously no clarity to
00:03:03
Speaker 1: show up every single week to give clarity in marketing,
00:03:05
Speaker 1: mentoring results and strategy. OK.
00:03:08
Speaker 1: Then we have efficiency to take action with speed and
00:03:12
Speaker 1: money love speed. Number five is abundance to get multiple
00:03:15
Speaker 1: streams of income. And number six is contribution to give
00:03:17
Speaker 1: back towards causes and charities that you believe in. So
00:03:20
Speaker 1: when you are able to create a set of values
00:03:22
Speaker 1: that is beyond just tactics and tools and stuff like
00:03:25
Speaker 1: that and you keep drumming up and driving these values
00:03:28
Speaker 1: every single week to a community,
00:03:30
Speaker 1: uh people will fall in line. There could be some
00:03:32
Speaker 1: people who are not aligned in the values, but the
00:03:35
Speaker 1: more they hear it and more they see others doing it,
00:03:38
Speaker 1: you know, it just creates an amazing set of uh
00:03:40
Speaker 1: you know, people that come together with a common set
00:03:43
Speaker 1: of values.
00:03:45
Speaker 1: The fourth element on what makes a community, a community
00:03:47
Speaker 1: are rituals like in our community, we have a ritual
00:03:51
Speaker 1: uh like listening to the strangest secret in the world
00:03:53
Speaker 1: every single day, writing the goals every single day and
00:03:56
Speaker 1: also listening, reading affirmations. And I've got a whole bunch
00:03:59
Speaker 1: of stuff that I've created for the committee members that
00:04:00
Speaker 1: they can do on a daily basis. Like us, we
00:04:02
Speaker 1: have a seven habits of highly effective coaches which they
00:04:05
Speaker 1: need to implement. And this especially for our diamond members.
00:04:08
Speaker 1: So all of these are also a part of what
00:04:11
Speaker 1: makes this a community number.
00:04:13
Speaker 1: Uh five is the lingo, in other words, the vocabulary
00:04:17
Speaker 1: in our community. So in our community, internal life cell hub,
00:04:20
Speaker 1: you know, in the beginning, it just started off with,
00:04:22
Speaker 1: you know, I use some keywords and webinars like bio,
00:04:25
Speaker 1: bring it on, on, you know, bo bulb on and
00:04:29
Speaker 1: you know, game on
00:04:30
Speaker 1: and uh money love speed. And I've got a whole
00:04:33
Speaker 1: bunch of a series of stuff that I've been doing in.
00:04:35
Speaker 1: The best part is I made all these into T shirts. Now,
00:04:37
Speaker 1: now the best part is even though they started in
00:04:40
Speaker 1: ih you know, many of our members are attending other
00:04:42
Speaker 1: calls or they're attending other trainer sessions. You know, the
00:04:45
Speaker 1: lingo is,
00:04:47
Speaker 1: has gone outside. I let you know. So I, in fact, I,
00:04:50
Speaker 1: one of my close friends and colleagues, rajit tre, he's
00:04:53
Speaker 1: when he's in a session. He said, hey, when I
00:04:55
Speaker 1: see bio, I know it's that guy, the person is
00:04:57
Speaker 1: from your community, you know, or when, when Puja is
00:05:00
Speaker 1: training and if she says balon or whatever, she knows
00:05:02
Speaker 1: they are from. Ih, so I never planned it this
00:05:05
Speaker 1: way but it happened so naturally and that's how it's,
00:05:08
Speaker 1: you know, really move forward. And even the concept of
00:05:11
Speaker 1: an MT MP TY, you know, more power to, you
00:05:14
Speaker 1: see all these small things make a big difference.
00:05:17
Speaker 1: Then I never really planned it. It was just naturally,
00:05:20
Speaker 1: you know, flowing. And even now when people meet each other,
00:05:23
Speaker 1: when they, let's say my facilitators do a call, uh
00:05:26
Speaker 1: the same feel and the same lingo is used everywhere.
00:05:30
Speaker 1: So people feel that they are a part of something
00:05:32
Speaker 1: and the same, I've seen this, even in other religious
00:05:34
Speaker 1: movements or political movements, they have their own vocabulary that
00:05:37
Speaker 1: people can understand.
00:05:39
Speaker 1: The sixth thing that makes a community a community is
00:05:42
Speaker 1: the flavor of the community. Now, the flavor is determined
00:05:45
Speaker 1: by the leader of the community. So what do I
00:05:47
Speaker 1: mean by flavor is like a,
00:05:51
Speaker 1: is it more friendly? Is it more open? Is it
00:05:54
Speaker 1: more strict? Is it more uh like discipline oriented? Is
00:05:59
Speaker 1: it more
00:06:00
Speaker 1: uh to the point? Uh and like
00:06:05
Speaker 1: or is, or is this community more free flowing? And
00:06:08
Speaker 1: there's a lot of fun.
00:06:10
Speaker 1: So every community has a vibe
00:06:13
Speaker 1: like whichever leader starts depending on their mental makeup and
00:06:17
Speaker 1: what they are made of, it actually permeates into the
00:06:20
Speaker 1: community in every single way. And I've noticed in my case, like,
00:06:23
Speaker 1: uh even when I was launching my four different quantum groups,
00:06:26
Speaker 1: when I was launching the first group, I was so
00:06:29
Speaker 1: uh you know,
00:06:30
Speaker 1: daredevil mode and uh I attracted daredevils. Second, I was
00:06:34
Speaker 1: very methodical and I attracted people who are more methodical. Third,
00:06:37
Speaker 1: I was very, more technical in my mind. And I
00:06:39
Speaker 1: attracted a group of 25 people who are more technical.
00:06:42
Speaker 1: And the last one is I, I was getting more
00:06:44
Speaker 1: in the spiritual zone and attracted a lot of spiritual people.
00:06:46
Speaker 1: So when I say flavor is what you are, you attract.
00:06:51
Speaker 1: If you are blaming and complaining and uh you know,
00:06:54
Speaker 1: putting other people down, you will attract people who are
00:06:57
Speaker 1: just like that. OK? If you are very egoistic and
00:07:00
Speaker 1: it's all about you and you know, it's the, it's
00:07:02
Speaker 1: all me, me, me stuff, you'll attract people who are
00:07:04
Speaker 1: just like that.
00:07:05
Speaker 1: So if I have any situation in my community where
00:07:09
Speaker 1: somebody is, you know, uh having some negative feedback and
00:07:12
Speaker 1: this and that I actually, instead of blaming the other person,
00:07:15
Speaker 1: I look at myself on where have I been thinking
00:07:17
Speaker 1: like that or, or where I have attracted that into
00:07:20
Speaker 1: my life. So
00:07:22
Speaker 1: it's a beautiful thing when building a community at scale,
00:07:25
Speaker 1: you start to see some of these amazing insights based
00:07:28
Speaker 1: on how your mood is and that permits in your flavor.
00:07:32
Speaker 1: And I say flavor also like the music that you play.
00:07:35
Speaker 1: The branding, flavor, the colors that you use, the, the personas,
00:07:39
Speaker 1: everything else. OK. Next is the seventh aspect of our community.
00:07:43
Speaker 1: What makes a community a community is a content delivery style,
00:07:47
Speaker 1: especially if it's a knowledge based community.
00:07:49
Speaker 1: You know, how are you delivering the content? Is it
00:07:51
Speaker 1: more to the point? No fluff, no bs no, no
00:07:53
Speaker 1: BS point shooter style or like beating around the bush? Ok.
00:07:57
Speaker 1: Then we have communities. The the other element of a
00:08:00
Speaker 1: community is Gamification.
00:08:02
Speaker 1: Ok. 12345678. Number eight is Gamification.
00:08:08
Speaker 1: Do you have some kind of a reward system as
00:08:11
Speaker 1: when people complete, they are able to get rewarded that
00:08:13
Speaker 1: leads me to. Number nine is rewards and recognition. These
00:08:15
Speaker 1: two are connected Gamification are what are the criteria that
00:08:19
Speaker 1: you're going to be having to evaluate somebody's progress and
00:08:22
Speaker 1: rewards and recognition? Are what are they going to get?
00:08:24
Speaker 1: What are they going to get? What are they going
00:08:26
Speaker 1: to receive as a reward, an award as they complete
00:08:29
Speaker 1: these different milestones? Like we have the Freedom Finisher Award
00:08:31
Speaker 1: of the Hall of Fame Award. We have the one
00:08:32
Speaker 1: Pro Champion Award and now this whole Gamification concept has
00:08:36
Speaker 1: picked up like wildfire all over
00:08:38
Speaker 1: the coaching industry again, thanks to many of our top
00:08:41
Speaker 1: coaches who have graduated, graduated and gone to the ILS process.
00:08:45
Speaker 1: They are truly building, you know, vibrant learning communities that
00:08:48
Speaker 1: make people take action and make progress where it's all
00:08:52
Speaker 1: a fun game like playing a video game.
00:08:55
Speaker 1: Finally, the 10th point that makes a community, a community,
00:08:58
Speaker 1: a real community is loyal and empowered leaders. Like I've
00:09:01
Speaker 1: got an amazing group of facilitators, our quantum facilitators and
00:09:04
Speaker 1: our regular diamond facilitators who come in. They are and
00:09:08
Speaker 1: they don't get paid for doing what you know, they're
00:09:10
Speaker 1: doing an eye, they come in, they deliver amazing value
00:09:13
Speaker 1: once in a month, twice a month, twice a month
00:09:15
Speaker 1: and they hold the space for the rest of the community.
00:09:17
Speaker 1: Not because they want anything from this. It's because they
00:09:19
Speaker 1: want to give back
00:09:20
Speaker 1: and that is such a pure and beautiful feeling and
00:09:23
Speaker 1: I don't pay a salary and none of that stuff.
00:09:25
Speaker 1: They just want to come and go back because they
00:09:27
Speaker 1: have benefited from the community and they're getting results themselves
00:09:30
Speaker 1: and you can't buy loyalty, you can't buy loyalty. It
00:09:33
Speaker 1: has to be earned by you being a leader who
00:09:38
Speaker 1: truly appreciates people for who they are and who truly
00:09:41
Speaker 1: is able to help them reach what they want, reach
00:09:43
Speaker 1: their goals really fast. OK. So just to recap the
00:09:46
Speaker 1: 10
00:09:47
Speaker 1: aspects that makes a community community are purpose, leadership style,
00:09:52
Speaker 1: value system rituals, lingo vocabulary, flavor, content, delivery style, Gamification,
00:09:59
Speaker 1: rewards and recognition and finally loyal empowered leaders when all
00:10:03
Speaker 1: of these come together,
00:10:05
Speaker 1: you can truly call
00:10:06
Speaker 1: what you're having into a community. Otherwise it is not
00:10:09
Speaker 1: a community. Catch you in the next episode and click
