[00:00:00] Welcome to Episode 22 of Season 3 of EmpowerBiz MSME Growth Mindset. I am Abanibhusan Bera, your host and MSME Growth Strategist and Sales Coach.

[00:00:14] Today we are diving into the core beliefs that can make or break your sales team's efficiency.

[00:00:21] While strategies and tools are essential for optimizing your sales process, the beliefs that your team holds about themselves, the customer and the sales journey are the foundation of their success.

[00:00:38] In this episode, we will explore how the right beliefs shape a high-performing sales team, why some beliefs lead to inefficiencies and actionable steps to foster a growth-oriented, customer-focused mindset.

[00:00:55] Let's get started and unlock the mindset secrets that drive sales excellence.

[00:01:02] The Power of Beliefs in Sales Success

[00:01:08] Let's spend some time on this.

[00:01:11] Beliefs are the mental frameworks that guide how your team approaches their work.

[00:01:17] Positive beliefs lead to proactive behaviors, persistence and creativity.

[00:01:22] On the other hand, limiting beliefs can create resistance, inefficiencies and missed opportunities.

[00:01:30] Consider this.

[00:01:33] Imagine two sales teams.

[00:01:35] Team A believes customers are just waiting for an excuse to say no.

[00:01:42] Team B believes customers are looking for solutions to their problems and we are here to provide them.

[00:01:50] Which team do you think performs better?

[00:01:53] Team B, of course.

[00:01:55] Team B, of course, because their belief system drives them to see opportunities where team A sees obstacles.

[00:02:03] Now, I will be delving on the three beliefs of successful sales teams.

[00:02:11] First, belief in their ability to add value.

[00:02:17] Successful sales teams believe that what they are offering genuinely improves the customer's life or business.

[00:02:25] This belief fosters confidence, enthusiasm and genuine desire to help.

[00:02:32] On the other hand, limiting belief to overcome shall be, I am just here to sell something.

[00:02:43] This belief reduces sales to transactional exchange, ignoring the value your product or service delivers.

[00:02:53] Now, how to cultivate this belief?

[00:02:56] Educate your team on the impact of your product or service.

[00:03:00] For example, share customer success stories and testimonials that highlight how your solutions solved real-world problems.

[00:03:10] Next, encourage your sales team to focus on consultative selling, which emphasizes understanding the customer's needs and providing tailored solutions.

[00:03:23] And in fact, I have created a course on sales growth mastery core under the framework of the proven consultative selling model.

[00:03:36] I provide two-day intensive sales training followed by 90 days post training coaching to ensure that whatever is taught in the training are retained and applied in the real-life solutions.

[00:03:55] If interested, please contact me.

[00:03:59] Now, let me move to examples for MSMEs.

[00:04:03] If you are a distributor of industrial automation products, remind your team that they are not just selling sensors or controllers.

[00:04:12] They are helping manufacturers reduce downtime and improve efficiency, directly impacting profitability.

[00:04:20] Number 2.

[00:04:23] Believe in the importance of building relationships.

[00:04:26] Top performing sales teams understand that success comes from relationships, not transactions.

[00:04:33] They believe that every interaction with a customer is an opportunity to build trust and loyalty.

[00:04:41] Now, limiting belief to overcome is sales is about closing deals quickly.

[00:04:47] While efficiency is important, rushing through the process can erode trust and long-term potential.

[00:04:54] How to cultivate this second belief?

[00:04:57] Train your team to ask open-ended questions that encourage meaningful conversations with customers.

[00:05:04] Emphasize the value of follow-ups and up-to-sell service as tools to nurture relationships and drive repeat business.

[00:05:11] Here is an example for system integrators.

[00:05:14] A system integrator could follow up with clients post-installation to ensure everything is running smoothly.

[00:05:22] This gesture reinforces trust and opens the door for future collaboration.

[00:05:30] Number 3.

[00:05:31] Believe in continuous improvement.

[00:05:34] High performing teams believe that they can always improve their skills, strategies and results.

[00:05:40] This growth mindset keeps them adaptable and motivated in a dynamic sales environment.

[00:05:46] As against the limiting belief to overcome, here it is, I am either good at sales or I am not.

[00:05:53] This fixed mindset discourages effort and limits potential.

[00:05:58] this is a pro tip.

[00:05:59] How to cultivate this third belief?

[00:06:02] Offer regular training sessions and workshops to up-skill your team in areas like negotiation,

[00:06:09] objection handling and digital tools.

[00:06:12] Encourage peer-to-peer learning by sharing success studies and tactics within the team.

[00:06:17] And set individual and team performance goals, focusing on progress rather than perfection.

[00:06:24] Here is a pro tip. Introduce a culture of feedback where team members reflect on both successes and failures to learn and grow.

[00:06:36] Now, let me talk on how limiting beliefs create inefficiencies in sales processes.

[00:06:44] Inefficient sales processes often stem from limiting beliefs that create bottlenecks, misalign priorities and discourage more innovation.

[00:06:58] Let's examine some common scenarios.

[00:07:01] Number one is fear of rejection. Sales reps may delay follow-ups because they believe the customer isn't interested, leading to lost opportunities.

[00:07:11] Number two, misaligned priorities. A belief that hitting quotas is more important than understanding the customer can result in lost ineffective pitches.

[00:07:24] Number three, resistance to change. Teams that believe this is how we have always done it may resist adopting new tools or processes that could streamline their workflow.

[00:07:37] Now, here is an actionable tip. Encourage your team to reframe challenges as opportunities for growth.

[00:07:45] For instance, view objections as a chance to clarify value rather than barriers to success.

[00:07:52] Now, what are the steps to align beliefs with an efficient sales process?

[00:07:57] Number one, identify and address limiting beliefs.

[00:08:01] Hold team discussions to surface beliefs that may be holding them back.

[00:08:06] Use role-playing exercises to challenge these beliefs and demonstrate alternative approaches.

[00:08:13] Number two, reinforce positive beliefs.

[00:08:16] Celebrate wins that align with the desired mindset.

[00:08:20] For example, recognize team members who build strong customer relationships or use creative approaches to solve problems.

[00:08:28] Number three, provide the right tools and training.

[00:08:32] Equip your team with resources that reinforce productive beliefs.

[00:08:37] For example, CRM tools to track customer interactions and provide insights.

[00:08:43] Sales enablement platforms for personalized content and streamlined communication.

[00:08:49] Number four, set the tone with leadership.

[00:08:53] As a leader, model the beliefs you want your team to adopt.

[00:08:57] Show enthusiasm for the value you deliver, prioritizing relationships and emphasize growth over perfections.

[00:09:06] Now, let me talk use case.

[00:09:11] And that is shaping beliefs for a high-performing sales team.

[00:09:15] The scenario is like this.

[00:09:17] You run a small manufacturing company specializing in eco-friendly packaging.

[00:09:21] Your sales team is struggling with inefficiencies primarily because they believe customers will always choose cheaper plastic options.

[00:09:32] Now, here is the action plan.

[00:09:33] First, reframe the value.

[00:09:35] Educate your team on how your packaging reduces environmental impact, aligns with sustainability, trains, and attracts eco-conscious consumers.

[00:09:47] Number two, highlight success.

[00:09:49] Share examples of businesses that switch to your packaging and so increase customer loyalty.

[00:09:57] Number three, invest in training.

[00:09:59] Organize workshops on value-based selling to help your team focus on benefits rather than price.

[00:10:07] Track progress.

[00:10:08] Use KPIs like customer engagement and conversion rates to measure improvement.

[00:10:14] These are the four action plans you can utilize.

[00:10:20] Now, what's the outcome you can expect?

[00:10:23] With a shift in beliefs, your team approaches customers with greater confidence and enthusiasm.

[00:10:30] They build stronger relationships and close more deals, ultimately driving efficiency and growth.
