[00:00:00] Welcome back to the MSME Growth Hub Podcast. I am your host, Abanibhusan Bera and today we are continuing our deep dive into the incredible success story of KPR Mills. In the last episode, we explored how one visionary decision by KPR Ramoshami offering free education to thousands of employees transformed not just lives but also business success.

[00:00:25] But the real question is, what can MSMEs learn from this model and apply to their own business? That's exactly what we will uncover today. I will break down 5 powerful growth lessons from KPR Mills that you as an MSME entrepreneur can implement right away even if you are running a small business with limited resources.

[00:00:52] For each of the lessons, I will talk on my own imaginary use case as an example and if you happen to fall into my imaginary business used as an example, you may think of implementing the lesson. Let's dive in. Lesson 1. Investing in Employees Drives Business Growth

[00:01:16] Many MSMEs hesitate to invest in employee upskilling, fearing that trained employees will live for better opportunities. But KPR Mills probe the opposite. When you empower people, they either stay or become your biggest brand ambassadors. What MSMEs can do? First, offer training sessions, certifications and mentorship opportunities for employees.

[00:01:44] Second, invest in soft skills training, communication, leadership and problem solving. Third, create a culture where employees feel valued not just as workers but as partners in growth. There is my own imaginary use case as an example. If you are a B2B industrial supplier, you may introduce monthly skill workshops for your workforce.

[00:02:13] Within a year, you may see productivity increased by 35% and customer satisfaction improvement because employees handled client interactions more efficiently. So that key takeaway, the more skilled and motivated your team is, the better your business performs. Lesson number two, long-term thinking leads to sustainable success.

[00:02:42] Most MSM is focused on short-term profits, but KPR will play the longer game. Knowing that investing in people today builds a thriving business tomorrow, what MSM can do? First, think beyond quarterly revenue. Focus on brand reputation, customer trust, and employee loyalty.

[00:03:05] Instead of cutting costs, aggressively invest in areas that drive long-term stability, like process improvements and leadership training. And third, align business goals with a bigger mission, something that attracts both customers and employees. This is my second imaginary use case as an example, like installation two.

[00:03:29] If you are a local packaging MSME, you can focus on sustainable eco-friendly materials instead of the cheapest options. What could be the outcome? Your brand will be known for quality and sustainability, leading to higher customer loyalty and premium pricing power. Now the key takeaway is, businesses that think beyond short-term profits create lasting success.

[00:04:00] Lesson number three, employee engagement reduces attrition and boosts productivity. KPR meals didn't just provide jobs, they created career growth opportunities. When employees feel like they are growing within the company, they are more engaged, loyal, and productive. Secondly, what MSMS can do? Incentivize employees with performance-based rewards and career growth opportunities.

[00:04:30] Next, create internal leadership programs to promote employees from within. Finally, conduct regular feedback sessions where employees can share ideas and feel heard. My third imaginary use case as an example is here. An electronics distributor can introduce an employee of the quarter program with performance bonuses.

[00:04:58] This will lead to a 20% boost in employee engagement, I am sure, and fewer resignations and a more competitive work environment. Now, what's the key takeaway? Happy, engaged employees contribute directly to business success. Lesson number four, brand trust comes from ethical and people-centric policies.

[00:05:25] Today's customers don't just buy products, they buy stories, values, and ethics. Businesses that genuinely care for their people and communities build strong brand loyalty. What MSMS can do? First, showcase ethical business practices like fair wages, diversity hiring, and employee well-being.

[00:05:52] Second, partner with social initiatives that align with your industry. Third, be transparent with customers about how you operate and what values your business stands for. My fourth imaginary use case as an example for this lesson is if you are a handmade textiles emissimi. You can highlight your women-led workforce and fair trade policies in its marketing.

[00:06:22] This positioning will surely attract conscious buyers and boost your brand value significantly. Now, the takeaway is business success is built on trust both from employees and customers. Lesson number five, when you give more, you gain more.

[00:06:45] KPR Mills model defined traditional HR logic. Instead of fearing employee attrition, they focused on employee empowerment. In return, they built a business that flourished organically. What MSMS can do? First, shift from a profit-first to a people-first mindset. Profit will follow. Second, invest in workplace culture.

[00:07:16] Build an environment where employees want to stay. And third, measure success not just in revenue but in team growth, customer satisfaction, and long-term stability. Here is my imaginary use case example for lesson number five. A B2B software startup can think of introducing flexible work policies and encourage employees to take upscaling courses.

[00:07:46] What could be the outcome? Within two years, the B2B software startup can become an industry leader attracting top talent without excessive recruitment costs. Now, the key takeaways is the more you give, the more you gain whether it's talent, loyalty, or customer trust. Now, here are the key takeaways and final thoughts from my side. KPR Mills success isn't just about textiles, it's about people.

[00:08:15] Here are the five biggest relations MSMS can apply. Number one, invest in employees. Skill building boosts business performance. Number two, think long-term, beyond just revenue and cost. Number three, engage your workforce. Happy employees work harder and stay longer. Number four, brand trust matters. Ethical people-first companies thrive. Number five, giving more to employees leads to higher business returns. Your next step.
