Uproar in J-K Assembly as BJP members protest over special status resolution | Top News of Nov 8, 2024

[00:00:19] Ruckus prevailed in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly for the third day on Friday as BJP members protested over the special status resolution leading the Speaker to marshal outwell opposition MLA's and language legislator, Sheikh Khurshid.

[00:00:33] Two terrorists were neutralized in the support area of Baramala District on Friday. The encounter took place between terrorists and security forces during a joint operation carried out by the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

[00:01:47] BJP MLA's also jumped into the well of the House following which Speaker Abdul Rahim Rathar directed that they be marshaled out.

[00:01:54] The House has been witnessing uproar for the last two days as BJP MLA's protested vociferously after the passage of the resolution.

[00:02:01] Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chaudhuri had moved the resolution Wednesday that said,

[00:02:06] This legislative assembly reaffirms the importance of the special status and constitutional guarantees which safeguarded the identity, culture and rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and expressed concern over their unilateral removal.

[00:02:20] Two terrorists were neutralised in the support area of Baramala district on Friday.

[00:02:24] The encounter took place between terrorists and security forces during a joint operation carried out by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir police.

[00:02:32] Earlier on Thursday, two village defence guards were abducted and killed by terrorists in the highlands of Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtuwar district.

[00:02:39] In response to these killings, a massive joint-surg operation has been launched by the police and army in a dense forest area.

[00:02:47] The killings were widely condemned by several political leaders including Lefton Governor Manut Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and leaders from National Conference, People's Democratic Party, Congress and BJP.

[00:02:59] Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday congratulated Donald Trump on winning the US election, praised him for showing courage when a gunman tried to assassinate him and said Moscow is ready for dialogue with the Republican president-elect.

[00:03:11] In his first public remarks since Trump's win, Putin said Trump had acted like a real man during the assassination attempt on him while he was speaking at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania in July.

[00:03:23] US President Joe Biden congratulated President-elect Donald Trump on call.

[00:03:27] President Biden announced this while addressing the nation from Rose Garden on Thursday, a day after Trump won the presidential elections.

[00:03:36] The Supreme Court on Friday deferred the question of Aligarh Muslim University's minority status to a new bench.

[00:03:42] Additionally, the court overruled the 1967 judgment which had stated that the university could not be considered a minority institution as it was created by central law.

[00:03:51] In a majority verdict headed by Chief Justice of India, D.Y. Chandrachut, the bench laid down tests for considering the issue of AMU's minority status.

[00:04:00] A five-judge constitution bench in the SSC's Basha v. Union of India in 1967 said AMU was a central university and couldn't be considered a minority institution.

[00:04:10] In January 2006, the High Court had struck down the provision of the 1981 law by which AMU was accorded the minority status.

[00:04:17] At the outset, CJ Chandrachut said there were four separate opinions including three dissenting verdicts.

[00:04:24] Former Kanu district Panchayat President PP Divya, who was under judicial custody in the case related to the death of additional district magistrate K. Naveen Babu, was released from prison after the Tala Chere Sessions Court on Friday granted her bail.

[00:04:35] In the order, Judge Katie Nassar Ahmed observed that the prosecution could not bring the case to the expectation of withholding bail and to keep the prisoner in jail.

[00:04:45] The court observed that further incarceration of Divya was not required in the case and she can be granted bail.

[00:04:51] Bail was granted with strict conditions.

[00:04:53] The court lay down as many as six conditions for bail.

[00:04:56] It was ordered to execute a bond of Rs. 1 lakh with two solvent sureties, each for the sum.

[00:05:01] Divya will have to appear before the investigating officer every Monday between 10 AM and 11 AM until further orders.

[00:05:07] She can't leave the district without the permission of the jurisdictional court.
