[00:00:09] Hello, this is your Daily Dose of News from Onmanorama. I'm your host Vaishnavi and these are the major news stories of Saturday, 5th July, 2025. Big moment in Maharashtra politics today as estranged brothers Uddhav and Raj Thackeray finally shared a state after two decades. The Shiv Sena UBT chief and the MNS head vowed to stay united defending Marathi pride against Hindi imposition.

[00:00:39] Raj said BJP rivals managed to unite the cousins where Bala Sahib Takiri couldn't. Uddhav hinted at contesting upcoming Mumbai civic polls together to capture power. Crowds cheered as both parties called for unity to counter BJP's divide and rule politics. Nirav Modi's brother Nihal Modi has been arrested in the US. He was held on India's extradition request over money laundering and criminal conspiracy charges.

[00:01:08] Nihal allegedly helped Nirav move illicit funds after the 13,000 crore rupee PNB fraud surfaced. He also faces charges for destroying evidence and directing dummy directors to stay silent. The next court hearing is set for July 17 as US prosecutors will oppose his bail plea. Both brothers and their uncle Mahal Choksi are accused of orchestrating one of India's biggest banking scams.

[00:01:38] US President Donald Trump says he is very unhappy with Russian President Vladimir Putin for refusing a ceasefire. He also said that Ukraine needs more patriot missiles after speaking with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and that the country keeps pushing Washington for more patriots to protect cities from airstrikes. Trump also said Russia just wants to keep killing people and it's no good.

[00:02:05] The National Investigation Agency arrested two men linked to human trafficking via the infamous Dungi route to the US. The accused Sunny and Shubham worked for Gagandeep Singh, already arrested in March. Victims paid around 45 lakh rupees each, then faced risky journeys through Latin America. Shubham handled Hwala money transfers to agents while Sunny arranged illegal travel.

[00:02:33] Over 100 people were trafficked before Gagandeep was caught, says the agency. Big relief for motorists as the central government cuts stall rates by up to 50% on national highways with structures. The new rule covers tunnels, flyovers, bridges and elevated stretches nationwide. Tall will now be calculated using a revised formula based on actual road section length.

[00:03:01] Earlier, users paid 10 times the rate per kilometre of such costly structures. That brings us to the end of this episode.
