[00:01:29] Sydney's beachside suburb of Bondi on Saturday as hundreds fled the scene.
[00:01:34] The assailant was shot by a police officer after he engaged with nine people in the
[00:01:37] busy Westfield Bondi Junction Shopping Center, police said.
[00:01:42] Eight people including a child had been taken to hospital, said a New South Wales ambulance
[00:01:45] spokesperson.
[00:01:47] Several posts on social media showed crowds fleeing the mall and police cars and emergency
[00:01:51] services rushing to the area.
[00:01:53] Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said there was no indication yet of the man's motive.
[00:01:58] Australia has some of the world's toughest gun and knife laws and attacks such as the
[00:02:02] one on Saturday are rare.
[00:02:06] A special NIA court on Saturday granted the National Agency 10 days custody of two
[00:02:10] accused in the Rameshadam Cafe blast case for further investigation.
[00:02:15] Musafir Hossein Shahzib and Abdul Mati Nahamath Taha were produced before the National
[00:02:19] Investigation Agency special court judge in Karnataka.
[00:02:23] The accused were brought to the state capital from Kolkata on transit remand for their alleged
[00:02:27] role in the March 1st blast at Rameshadam Cafe which left 10 people injured.
[00:02:31] According to NIA, Shahzib placed the improvised explosive device at the cafe and Taha was
[00:02:36] the mastermind.
[00:02:38] Last month, the NIA announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh each for those providing information
[00:02:42] leading to the arrest of these two accused.
[00:02:48] NIA's President Joe Biden on Friday said he expected Iran to attack Israel sooner rather
[00:02:52] than later and warned Tehran not to proceed.
[00:02:55] Asked by reporters about his message to Iran, Biden said simply, don't, and he underscored
[00:03:00] Washington's commitment to defend Israel.
[00:03:03] We are devoted to the defense of Israel.
[00:03:05] We will support Israel.
[00:03:06] We will help defend Israel and Iran will not succeed, he said.
[00:03:11] Israel braced on Friday for an attack by Iran on its proxies as warnings grew of
[00:03:15] retaliation for an attack on Iran's embassy compound last week in Damascus.
[00:03:20] Israel did not claim responsibility for the airstrike on April 1st, but Iran's Supreme
[00:03:24] Leader Ayatollah Ali Khomeini said Israel must be punished and shall be for an operation
[00:03:29] he said was equivalent to an attack on Iranian soil.
[00:03:33] The US rushed warships into position to protect Israel and American forces in the
[00:03:36] region hoping to head off a direct attack from Iran and Israel that could come as
[00:03:40] soon as Friday or Saturday, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.
[00:03:45] Countries including India, France, Poland and Russia have warned their citizens
[00:03:49] that they can travel to the region already on edge over the war in Gaza now in its seventh
[00:03:53] month.
[00:03:54] Germany and Friday called on its citizens to leave Iran.
[00:04:00] The Central Government has directed all gas-based power generating stations to
[00:04:04] operationalize their plans from May 1st to June 30th in view of rise in electricity
[00:04:08] demand due to a likely prolonged heat wave this summer.
[00:04:12] A significant portion of gas-based generating stations is currently
[00:04:15] unutilized primarily due to commercial considerations.
[00:04:19] The ministry has projected 260 GW peak power demand this summer.
[00:04:24] Peak power demand had touched an all-time high of 243 GW in September last year.
[00:04:29] The decision to operationalize gas-based generating stations is part of a series
[00:04:34] of measures taken by the Centre to ensure that electricity demand in the
[00:04:37] summer is met.
[00:04:38] According to a power ministry statement, the order shall remain valid for
[00:04:41] generation and supply of electricity from May 1st, 2024 to June 30th, 2024.
[00:04:48] India's electricity demand has been rising rapidly driven by economic growth, particularly
[00:04:52] during hot weather and high demand periods.
[00:04:55] The India Meteorological Department has predicted above normal maximum temperatures
[00:04:59] over most parts of the country during the 2024 summer.
[00:05:05] The film employs Federation of Kerala on Saturday said that no Malayalam film will
[00:05:09] be given to any PVR-owned screen or theater till it compensates producers from the
[00:05:13] southern state for the loss suffered by them due to the multiplex company not showing
[00:05:17] films made by them across India.
[00:05:19] FFCA General Secretary Unikrishnan B announced the decision at a press conference
[00:05:23] where noted producers like Blessie Aipthamas and Vinicius Renevasen were also present.
[00:05:28] Unikrishnan said that there was an ongoing dispute between PVR and the film
[00:05:32] producers association on the issue of virtual print fee charged by the
[00:05:35] multiplex company.
[00:05:37] The producers association decided not to give any films to PVR's new screen at
[00:05:41] Forum Mall till the dispute was resolved, he said.
[00:05:44] He also said that PVR does not have the courage to take such a stand in the
[00:05:48] other South Indian states but was taking unfair advantage of the Malayalam
[00:05:51] film industry's view of resolving issues democratically.
