[00:01:13] Let's get into details.
[00:01:15] The Supreme Court has set up a special bench to hear a series of public interest litigations challenging the validity of provisions in the 1991 Places of Worship Special Provisions Act.
[00:01:26] The Act prohibits lawsuits to reclaim a place of worship or alter its character from water to us on August 15, 1947, with a single exception for the Ayodhya-Ramjanma-Bhoomi-Babri-Mustrid dispute.
[00:01:39] A three-judge bench, including Chief Justice Sanjeev Karnas, Justice Sanjay Kumar and K.V. Vishwanathan, will hear the case on December 12, 2024.
[00:01:48] The petitions, including one from Ashwini Upadhyay, argue that Sections 2, 3 and 4 of the Act deny the right to reclaim places of worship.
[00:01:56] The case comes amid ongoing legal battles involving the Gyanwabi Mosque in Varanasi, Shahi Idga Mosque in Mathura and Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambal, where petitions claim these mosques were built over destroyed temples.
[00:02:11] Devendra Fadnavis, Egnath Shinde and Ajit Bawar took oath as MLA's in Maharashtra on Saturday, just two days after Fadnavis was sworn in as Chief Minister.
[00:02:20] This occurred during the first day of a three-day special session of the state legislature.
[00:02:25] The opposition MVA boycotted the ceremony, questioning the legitimacy of the ruling Mahayuti's alliance's massive victory in the Nombra elections and raising concerns about the trustworthiness of electronic voting machines.
[00:02:38] Despite the opposition boycott, several other MLAs, including former assembly speakers and senior leaders, took their oaths.
[00:02:45] Fadnavis Shinde and Bawar paid tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji before entering the house.
[00:02:52] Hotels in Assam's Bharakwali have decided not to host any Bangladeshi nationals until attacks on Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh cease.
[00:03:01] Bharakwali, which includes three other districts, shares the border with Bangladesh's Sillat region.
[00:03:07] The decision announced by Babul Rai, president of the Bharakwali Hotel and Restaurant Association, is a protest against the ongoing persecution of Hindus and minorities in Bangladesh.
[00:03:18] Rai emphasised that the situation must improve for the ban to be lifted.
[00:03:22] This follows protests in the valley, including demands to close Bangladeshi product stalls and remove Bangladesh from the visa centre sign in Siltcher.
[00:03:30] These actions are part of the broader protest against atrocities against minorities in Bangladesh, including the arrest of Hindu monk Chinmaya Krishnadas.
[00:03:40] The post-mortem report of Aedriam Naveen Babu confirmed that his death was caused by hanging, with no suspicious injuries or internal abnormalities.
[00:03:49] The special investigation team filed a counter-affidavit in the High Court ruling out foul play, citing the inquest report, doctor statements, eyewitness accounts and circumstantial evidence.
[00:04:01] They also collected call records and CCTV footage related to individuals allegedly involved in bribing Naveen Babu.
[00:04:09] Naveen's family rejected the affidavit, claiming they were informed of his death only after the inquest and had requested the post-mortem be conducted in court record.
[00:04:18] They have asked for a CBI investigation, which the CBI agreed to, but the government argued that the ongoing police investigation is sufficient and a CBI prop is unnecessary.
[00:04:29] The BJP accused the US State Department of orchestrating targeted attacks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ruling party, alleging attempts to destabilise India.
[00:04:39] The party also blamed the organised crime and corruption reporting project for providing support to this agenda, with the Congress using OCCRP reports to disrupt Parliament.
[00:04:48] The BJP claimed that the French media group Mediapart revealed that the OCCRP was funded by the US State Department's USAID, along with figures like George Soros and the Rockefeller Foundation.
[00:05:01] That brings us to the end of this episode.
