SBI submits electoral bonds details to Election Commission | Top News of Mar 13, 2024

[00:00:24] The state bank of India disclosed to the Supreme Court that 22,217 electoral bonds were bought

[00:00:32] and 20,30 were redeemed by political parties. This is between April 1st, 2019 and February 15th, 2024.

[00:00:44] Kerala has rejected the Central Government's offer of Rs 5000 crore as a special package.

[00:00:51] During the argument at the Supreme Court, the state also sought Rs 10,000 crore to tide over the

[00:00:57] financial crisis. Contrist has announced Mahila Nyay Guarantee. Under the scheme, the party promises

[00:01:07] to provide Rs 1 lakh annually to per women and 50% quota in government jobs.

[00:01:44] In a Neffida Vid submitted to the Supreme Court on Wednesday,

[00:01:47] the state bank of India disclosed the number of electoral bonds bought and redeemed.

[00:01:53] The bank revealed that a total of 22,217 electoral bonds were bought and 20,30 were redeemed by

[00:02:01] political parties between April 1st, 2019 and February 15th, 2024.

[00:02:08] Following the Court's directive, SBI furnished the Election Commission of India with comprehensive

[00:02:13] details regarding electoral bonds before the close of business hours on March 12th.

[00:02:19] This included information such as the purchase date, purchase and names and bond denominations for

[00:02:26] the election. The Deffida Vid, presented by SBI's Chairman Dinesh Kumar Kharra,

[00:02:31] also stated that the bank provided the EC with details regarding the end-cashment date,

[00:02:36] receipt in political parties and bond denominations. On March 11th, a five-judge constitution

[00:02:43] bench headed by Chief Justice D. Y. Chanzichur had dismissed the SBI's plea,

[00:02:48] seeking an extension of time and ordered it to disclose the details of electoral bonds to the EC

[00:02:53] by close of business hours on March 12th.

[00:02:58] The Centre on Wednesday agreed to provide Rs 5,000 crore to Kerala.

[00:03:03] This is after the Supreme Court asked it to consider providing a one-time package to the

[00:03:08] State Government by March 31st to deal with its financial issues. But the State Government refused

[00:03:14] to accept the offer and demanded at least Rs 10,000 crore to deal with its fiscal crisis.

[00:03:20] Seeking an extension of borrowing limit for this financial year, Kerala rejected the offer as

[00:03:25] Rs 5,000 crore would be deducted from the next fiscal borrowing limit. This was unacceptable for

[00:03:32] the State. The Centre informed the Apex Court that it was making an exception for Kerala

[00:03:37] as the Supreme Court had intervened in the matter. The Court listed the rest of the hearing for Thursday.

[00:03:43] Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday announced five mahilan niayi guarantees including

[00:03:50] Rs 1 lakh annually for the poor women and 50% reservation in government jobs if his parties watered

[00:03:57] to power in the upcoming locks of our polls. A SEC General Secretary in charge of communications,

[00:04:02] Jairam Ramesh promised that the party will bring a constitutional amendment to do away with the

[00:04:07] 50% cap on reservation. Gandhi announced the same while addressing a woman's rally in

[00:04:13] Maharashtra's Thule district as part of his ongoing Bharajjodh or Niyayatra.

[00:04:21] The Supreme Court today agreed to hear a plea of an NGO challenging the exclusion of the Chief

[00:04:26] Justice of India from a panel meant for selecting the CEC and Election Commissioners on March 15th.

[00:04:33] The exclusion was on the grounds that the Paul panel should be insulated from political and

[00:04:38] executive interferences to maintain a healthy democracy. A bench headed by Justice Sangiv Kanna

[00:04:44] took note of the submissions of lawyer Prashan Pushan appearing for the NGO named

[00:04:49] Association for Democratic Reforms seeking urgent listing of the plea.

[00:04:53] The bench said it will be listed on Friday.

[00:04:56] The Delhi High Court on Wednesday upheld an order of the income tax appellate tribunal

[00:05:04] refusing to stay a notice issued by the income tax department to this Congress party for

[00:05:09] recovery of outstanding tax of more than Rs 100 crore. A bench of justiceist Yashwanda Varma

[00:05:15] and Prashan Rukumar Kaur have said there was no reason to interfere with the ITAT's March 8th

[00:05:22] The Congress approves the High Court after ITAT dismiss the party's application seeking a stay

[00:05:27] on February 13 notice of IT department initiating recovery proceedings against it.
