[00:00:08] Hello, this is your daily dose of news from Onmanorama. I'm your host, Kanan, and these are the major news stories of Wednesday, December 11, 2024.

[00:00:20] The opposition India blog parties in the Rajya Sabha have decided to issue a notice to move a motion to impeach Allahabad High Court Judge Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav following his controversial remarks at an event organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishat last week.

[00:00:47] U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken will testify to a Republican-led House of Representatives committee on the country's August 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan, ending a long dispute with the panel weeks before the end of his term.

[00:01:04] The U.S. chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan after 20 years of war became intensely politicised during the 2024 presidential campaign, beating President-elect Donald Trump against Vice President Kamala Harris.

[00:01:20] The survivor of the 2017 actor assault case has filed a contempt of court petition against former Director General of Police, R. Shrilekha.

[00:01:31] The plea accuses the ex-corp of making statements favouring actor Dilib, one of the accused in the case.

[00:01:37] The complaint in earlier also alleged that Shrilekha publicly supported Dilib on various platforms, including her personal YouTube channel, thereby undermining the judicial process.

[00:01:51] Several opposition parties on Wednesday said the partisan conduct of Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankar prompted them to move a notice for his removal as Vice President and alleged that politics has taken precedence over rules in the upper house of parliament.

[00:02:07] Addressing a press conference at the Constitution Club in Delhi, Congress President Malikarjun Gharge alleged that Dhankar was working as a government spokesperson and acting like a school headmaster, often sermonising experienced opposition leaders and preventing them from speaking in the House.

[00:02:28] Gharge also claimed that Dhankar himself was responsible for the disruptions in the House.

[00:02:36] Directing that there must not be any change in the scheduled daily pujas at the Shri Krishna temple at Guru Vahir, the Supreme Court has issued notices in a plea challenging the temple administration's decision not to conduct Udayasthamana puja on Vrstigam Ekadashi day citing public inconvenience.

[00:02:58] Justice Maheshwari observed that puja has been stopped on the pretext of causing inconvenience to the public.

[00:03:04] Puja is for the deity, for increasing the divinity of the deity.

[00:03:09] So this cannot be asked for the public.

[00:03:12] Management may find a way to manage things.

[00:03:15] How far this reason is justified, we have to examine this point.
