[00:00:08] Hello, this is your Daily Dose of News from Onmanorama. I am your host Deepa Soman and these are the major news stories of Tuesday, December 10, 2024.

[00:00:19] Former Karnataka Chief Minister SM Krishna passed away today at the age of 92 in Bengaluru.

[00:00:25] The Karnataka government has declared a three-day mourning period and a public holiday on December 11 as a mark of respect.

[00:00:33] His funeral will be held with full state honours in his native village, Somanahalli.

[00:00:38] He was Karnataka's longest-serving CM and a key figure in Bengaluru's transformation as an IT hub.

[00:00:44] He has also served as the External Affairs Minister of India from 2009 to 2012 during the tenure of Manmohan Singh.

[00:00:53] The Malayalam actor, who was the survivor of the 2017 assault case, has written a letter to President Drobati Murmu.

[00:01:01] She has sought an intervention regarding the unauthorised access to a memory card that contained footage of the attack.

[00:01:08] The survivor, who had approached both Kerala High Court and Supreme Court, raised concerns about the illegal examination of the memory card, which was in the custody of the court.

[00:01:18] She said that scientific tests confirmed the card had been accessed three times without proper procedure and, despite this, no action had been taken against the officials involved.

[00:01:29] In her letter, she emphasised that releasing the footage could severely affect her privacy and future, urging the president to ensure an effective investigation.

[00:01:40] The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day on Tuesday after a heated session.

[00:01:45] Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiran Rijiju accused the Congress and its leadership of colluding with US billionaire George Soros and anti-India forces during the discussion.

[00:01:57] His remarks during zero-hour triggered chaos, with opposition members storming the well of the House in protest.

[00:02:04] Several opposition MPs also demonstrated over the Adani issue in Parliament premises, carrying black bags with caricatures of PM Modi and billionaire Gautam Adani printed on it and Modi Adani Bhai Bhai written on the opposite side.

[00:02:19] The Congress-led India opposition bloc moved a no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Chairperson Jagdeep Bhankar Tuesday morning, alleging partisan functioning of the House.

[00:02:30] The notice, with 50-plus signatures by MPs from the Congress, Bengal's ruling Thrinamul, the Ahmadmi Party of Arvind Kejriwal, Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party, Tamil Nadu's Dravidamunetra Karagam and the Rashtri Jenta Dhal of Lalu Yadav was submitted to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat.

[00:02:48] According to the rules, the motion to remove Dhankar must be passed by a simple majority, i.e. 50% plus 1, of voting Rajya Sabha MPs.

[00:02:57] It must then pass the Lok Sabha by a similar margin.

[00:03:02] Abu Muhammad al-Jalani or Ahmad al-Sharah, the leader of Syrian militant group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham or HTS, said in a statement on Telegram that the group will go after senior officials of Bashar al-Assad's regime for their roles in war crimes.

[00:03:19] HTS had recently collapsed Assad's government after his family ruled Syria for more than 50 years.

[00:03:25] Shara also said he will release a wanted list of officials involved in abuses, offering rewards for information leading to their arrest.

[00:03:34] He said HTS would pursue these officials even if they have fled abroad.

[00:03:39] That brings us to the end of this episode.
