[00:00:20] A 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck near Tibet's holy city of Shigat on January 7, 2025, killing at least 95 people and injuring 130 others.
[00:00:32] The quake hit Tibet at 9.5am local time, with tremors also felt in neighbouring Nepal, where people rushed into the streets in panic.
[00:00:41] The epicentre was located near Sogo Township, affecting around 61,000 people. The earthquake's magnitude was reported as 7.1 by the US Geological Survey.
[00:00:52] Chinese President Xi Jinping ordered immediate rescue and relief efforts.
[00:00:57] Authorities have dispatched 22,000 disaster relief items, including warm clothing and tents, to the region.
[00:01:05] The Election Commission announced the schedule for the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections, which will be held on February 5, 2025, with vote counting on February 8.
[00:01:16] The last date for filling nominations is January 11 and scrutiny will be completed by January 18, with candidates having until January 20 to withdraw.
[00:01:25] Additionally, by-polls will be held for two constituencies, Milikipur in Uttar Pradesh and Eroda in Tamil Nadu.

[00:02:05] Eyewitnesses report that the rising water levels left the workers unable to escape.
[00:02:09] A relief task force, including divers, sappers and specialists, has been deployed to the site to assist with the rescue.
[00:02:18] Assam Chief Minister Himant Abhiswa Sarma confirmed that Navy deep divers are being brought in from Vishakhapatanum as the water level inside the mine has been risen to nearly 100 feet.

[00:03:22] A court in Talasheri, Kerala sentenced nine RS's workers to life imprisonment on January 7, 2025,
[00:03:30] for the 2005 murder of CPM worker Rajit Shankaran.
[00:03:34] Shankaran, a 25-year-old CPM member from Kannapuram,
[00:03:38] was killed near a temple on October 3, 2005,
[00:03:41] during a period of political tension between the two parties.
[00:03:45] The Talasheri Additional District Sessions Court convicted the nine accused on January 4, 2025,
[00:03:50] with one of the original ten accused having died in a road accident.
[00:03:54] The convicts include Sudhakaran Jayesh,
[00:03:57] Renjit Ajindran, Anil Kumar Rajesh,
[00:03:59] Srikant, Srijit and Bhaskaran.
