Kejriwal fails to get immediate relief from SC in excise case; Delhi court extends custody | Top News of May 7, 2024

[00:00:35] Voting for the third phase of Lok Sabha polls was held across 93 constituencies spanning

[00:00:39] 11 states and unit territories on Tuesday.

[00:00:44] The Israeli military seized control of the Rafah border crossing between the Gaza Strip

[00:00:48] and Egypt on Tuesday, and its tanks pushed into the southern Gazantan of Rafah after a

[00:00:52] night of airstrikes on the Palestinian enclave.

[00:00:57] JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy claimed that 25,000 penitrized videos of women being sexually

[00:01:02] abused allegedly by his nephew and Lok Sabha election candidate Prajol Devanna were

[00:01:07] distributed before polls and accused Chief Minister Sidhir Amaya and his deputy DK Shiv Kumar of

[00:01:12] a conspiracy.

[00:01:16] The Indian Meteorological Department on Tuesday issued a heat wave alert for Kerala's Alapura,

[00:01:21] barring Idki and Mayanath the weather office sounded a yellow alert for all districts

[00:01:24] in the state on account of rising temperatures.

[00:01:30] Delhi Chief Minister Irwin Kejriwal failed to get an idly from the Supreme Court on

[00:01:34] Tuesday with the two judge benches rising without pronouncing an order granting him

[00:01:38] interim bail to enable him to campaign in the Lok Sabha elections.

[00:01:42] Kejriwal has been accused of money laundering in a case linked to the alleged Delhi excise

[00:01:46] scam, a bench of Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Dipankar Dutta which reserved its order

[00:01:51] on ground of interim bail earlier during the day and said it will be pronounced at

[00:01:55] 2pm, rose without delivering its verdict.

[00:01:57] The bench has divided the hearing on Kejriwal's petition against his arrest into two parts.

[00:02:02] His main petition challenges his arrest by the ED and seeks it to be declared

[00:02:06] as illegal while the second aspect pertains to grant of interim bail keeping in mind the

[00:02:10] ongoing Lok Sabha polls.

[00:02:12] The court has reserved the order on the issue of grant of interim bail.

[00:02:16] Meanwhile, a Delhi court extended Kejriwal's judicial custody in the money laundering case

[00:02:20] till May 20th.

[00:02:22] Special judge for CBI and ED matters Kaveri Bhaveja.

[00:02:26] Extended Kejriwal's custody after the Ahmadmi Party leader was produced before the court

[00:02:30] through a video conference on the expiry of his remand granted earlier.

[00:02:34] Kejriwal was arrested on March 21st and is currently lodged in Tihar jail under judicial

[00:02:38] custody.

[00:02:39] The matter relates to alleged corruption and money laundering in the formulation and

[00:02:42] execution of the Delhi government's now scrapped access policy for 2021-22.

[00:02:49] Voting for the third phase of Lok Sabha polls across 93 constituencies spanning 11 states

[00:02:54] and union territories was held on Tuesday.

[00:02:57] This phase holds significance for the BJP as it had clinched a vast majority of these

[00:03:01] seats in the previous election, including all in Gujarat, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh.

[00:03:06] Over 1,300 candidates including around 120 women are in the fray.

[00:03:11] Among the big bits contesting are union ministers Amit Shah, Jyodiraditya Sindhya, Mansukh

[00:03:16] Manvia, Parishotam Rupala, Prahala Joshi and SP Singh Bhagyan.

[00:03:21] As many as 17.24 crore people including 8.39 crore females will be eligible to vote.

[00:03:27] With the BJP buying Suryatana post, 25 seats in Prime Minister Modi's home state of Gujarat

[00:03:32] went to the polls besides 11 seats in Maharashtra, 10 seats in Uttar Pradesh, the remaining

[00:03:37] 14 of the 28 in Karnataka, 7 in Chattisgarh, 5 in Bihar, 4 each in Assam, West Bengal

[00:03:43] and all 2 in Goa.

[00:03:46] The union territory of Dadra and Nagarhaveli and Dhamanandiyu and 9 seats in Madhya Pradesh

[00:03:50] including Beirtul where elections were deferred went to the polls on Tuesday.

[00:03:55] The union was completed in 189 seats out of the 543 seats in the first 2 faces.

[00:04:01] The next 4 faces will be on May 13, May 20, May 25 and June 1.

[00:04:06] The counting of votes is on June 4.

[00:04:10] The Israeli military seized control of the Rafah border crossing between the Gaza Strip

[00:04:14] and Egypt and Tusei and its tanks pushed into the southern Ghazan town of Rafah after

[00:04:18] night of airstrikes on the Palestinian enclave.

[00:04:22] The Israeli offensive took place as mediators struggled to secure a ceasefire agreement

[00:04:26] between Israel and its Hamas force and as the conflict ended its 8th month.

[00:04:30] The Palestinian militant group said late on Monday it had agreed to a ceasefire proposal

[00:04:34] but Israel said the terms did not meet its demands.

[00:04:37] Amid international concern over the plight of civilians crammed into Rafah, Israeli tanks

[00:04:42] and planes attacked several areas and houses there overnight.

[00:04:45] More than 1 million people have sought refuge in Rafah, living in tented camps and

[00:04:49] makeshift shelters.

[00:04:51] Many are trying to leave, hitting Israeli orders for them to evacuate but with

[00:04:54] large areas of the coastal enclave already lead to waste, they say they have nowhere safe

[00:04:58] to go.

[00:05:00] The Israeli military said a limited operation in Rafah was meant to kill fighters and dismantle

[00:05:04] infrastructure used by Hamas which governs the besieged Palestinian territory.

[00:05:09] Egypt said the Israeli operation in Rafah threatened ceasefire efforts and the European

[00:05:13] Union's foreign policy chief Joseph Burrell said the assault would be deadly for civilians.

[00:05:19] A total of 34,789 Palestinians, most of them civilians, have been now killed in the conflict

[00:05:25] because the Health Ministry said.

[00:05:28] According to a Gaza border authority spokesperson, a vital route for aid into the devastated

[00:05:32] enclave was closed because of the presence of Israeli tanks.

[00:06:07] He called the special investigation team to Sidra Amaya investigation team and

[00:06:11] Shiv Kumar investigation team.

[00:06:15] Prejuel have been booked for molesting their cook.

[00:06:18] In another case, Revanna has been booked and arrested for kidnapping a woman who was allegedly

[00:06:22] sexually assaulted by Prejuel.

[00:06:25] A case of rape has also been registered against Prejuel.

[00:06:28] Addressing a press conference, Kumaraswamy said the pen drives were circulated by

[00:06:31] police officers who were threatened to do it.

[00:06:35] The Indian meteorological department on Tuesday issued a heat wave alert for

[00:06:39] Alapura.

[00:06:40] The temperature in the coastal district is expected to go up to 38 degrees Celsius.

[00:06:44] Barring Idkian Mayanath, the weather officer sounded a yellow alert for all districts in

[00:06:48] the state and account of rising temperatures.

[00:06:50] Meanwhile, the med department stated the state could receive summer rain starting

[00:06:54] Wednesday.

[00:06:55] Idkian Malapuram may receive isolated heavy rainfall on Wednesday.
