Jaishankar, instead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will represent the Government of India at the swearing-in ceremony of the US President-elect Donald Trump. The ceremony scheduled for Jan 20 will mark Trump becoming the 47th President of the United States of America.

[00:00:38] Jaishankar's visit, extended at the invitation of the Trump Vance inaugural committee, is set to feature meetings with key members of the incoming US administration. This visit highlights the ongoing efforts to strengthen diplomatic relations between India and the United States. Firefighters continued battling massive wildfires around Los Angeles late into Saturday night as strong winds intensified the blazes, driving them towards previously uneffected neighborhoods.

[00:01:04] The fires have claimed at least 16 lives, leaving communities devastated and presenting immense challenges for thousands of firefighters and millions of California residents. Despite valiant efforts including precise aerial firefighting operations, the Palisades Fire expanded further on Saturday. It advanced eastward, threatening the invariable collections housed at the Getty Centre Art Museum and pushed north toward the heavily populated San Fernando Valley.

[00:01:32] AARP National Convener Arvind K. J. Dvall alleged on Sunday that the BJP plans to demolish all slums in Delhi if it comes to power in the upcoming Assembly elections. Speaking at a press conference in the Chakur Basti area, the former Chief Minister accused the BJP of prioritising land acquisition over the welfare of slum dwellers. He claimed that the BJP is seeking votes now but intends to focus on acquiring land after the elections.

[00:01:57] K. J. Dvall also accused the BJP of planning to take over the land currently occupied by slum dwellers without addressing their housing needs. K. J. Dvall also accused the BJP of planning to demolish all slums and acquire the land showing no concern for the people living there. Three Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security personnel in Satyaskar's Bijapur district on Sunday, police said.

[00:02:19] The gunfire broke out in the morning at a forest in the Indiravati National Park area when a joint team of security personnel was out on anti-Naxalite operation, Inspector General of Police Buster Ranch Sundar Rajpi said. After the intermittent exchange of fire stopped, bodies of three Naxalites clad in uniform along with firearms including the automatic ones and explosives were recovered from the site, the official said. Search operation was still underway in the area, he added.

[00:02:46] Police on Sunday booked eight individuals on charges of gang rape of a 36-year-old woman with mental disabilities in Kerala's Malapuram district. The accused includes the survivors' neighbours and distant relatives. According to the FIIs, the abuse occurred at multiple locations in Malapuram and Wainard. The first incident took place in February 2023 when the primary accused and another individual took the woman on a trip to Manjari, Malapuram. She was then taken to a lodge in Arikod where she was assaulted.

[00:03:16] According to the complaint filed by her brother, the perpetrators also stole 15 sovereigns of gold jewellery from the woman. The woman currently at a court-to-court centre is receiving treatment for mental health challenges. That brings us to the end of this episode.
